My/Our Holiday Review:

where can i start...brill resort...hersonnises in crete is brill but under NO circumstances would i recommend ACROPOLIS Apts to anyone....

HERES all the reasons why:

we had no towels on arrival, had to go get them our selves, even at that we had three little towels between four of us ta start with.

the paint was falling off the bath and blocking the plughole, the shower had to be hand held as ya couldnt put it on the wall.

there was no handle on our bedroom door.

out balcony was so disgusting looking,we couldnt wash clothes cos we had no where ta put them n they would have ending up more dirtier if we did leave them out there.

the people at reception (especially at night) was SO ignorant.... ya couldnt talk or ya were 'on your last warning' all the time, music cant be loud, and they gave out about the irish peolpes behaviour (nothing at all about theres though)

the sheets that were supposed changed every day on the beds were changed bout twice...even at that the sheets were manky anyhow.....

the pool that looks all nice in the brochure has bout 20 steps up to it, the perimeter around the pool is so narrow ya nearly have ta balance or ya'll fall in....

big manky trees are hanging in over the pool so either way ya cant get sunshine there....

the lift is so tiny in the so called apts, two people fit in with great difficulty....

now normally i am not one ta complain, but thses apts make Fawlty Towers look like a Five Star hotel...and yes they are that bad.after paying 588 each its not fair to put up with such cr*p!!!!!!!

you've been warned!!!!!

My/Our Holiday Review:

This is by far the WORST apartments I have EVER stayed in!

I stayed at these apartments in July / August 2006. Booked through tour operator Cosmos, 6 of us girls went to stay there. (We are all around 22 years old).

The apartments are run by two brothers. Upon arrival, we immediately realised that this is very much a Dutch resort. There were only three other English groups in the hotel. When checking into our rooms, the manager was very rude to us- we sensed that he didn't like the English as we saw him being rude to other English families but he would sit there and drink with the Dutch.

The rooms were tiny. We had three in a room which had a double bed and a tiny single bed. Underneath our balcony was also a goat and cockerel farm - you can imagine the noise coming from the farm early in the mornings! There wasn't much else in the room except a heating hob and a dressing table with a small mirror and a tiny wardrobe. The bathroom was so small you barely had enough room to turn around in it!!! The plug sockets were hanging out of the wall and looked dangerous. The rooms were also sweltering hot- you absolutely had to buy the air con in there otherwise, like us you probably wouldn't be able to sleep in the heat.

Other things to note: there was a swimming pool which was the only nice thing about the apartments. The maid never cleaned the rooms - they were filthy, the bed was made but that was about it- no other cleaning was done.

On the first night we asked the manager to call a taxi for us. He ignored us and walked away so we tried to hail a taxi to which he shouted to us "I already ordered you one, I'm not paying for your tax - you're not in England now". He hadn't even acknowledged us when we asked him to call us a taxi!!!

When we got back that night, there was no water AT ALL. We couldn't flush the toilet; we couldn't shower or even brush our teeth. The water was off for hours and when we finally asked the manager what was happening he shouted at us "don't talk to me, I have only just woken up". This was at 11am in the morning! Again we asked him and the only response we got was "it's not working yet" (well that was obvious!)

We called our holiday rep and asked her to come over. When the manager found out, he started screaming at us and got very aggressive, he then told us to leave his apartments or he would get the police to arrest us. When we said we hadn't done anything wrong he said "I can get them to arrest you, I have my ways". The rep was unhelpful as she had three other English parties complaining to her about the water (and one girl had even got a rash from the swimming pool!)

Anyway, things calmed down that day. The next night, we kept awake all night by a group of Dutch girls on our floor running up and down the corridor banging on doors until 7am which WE got the blame for! One night we didn't even return to the apartments but the manager blamed us for having a party on our floor - I couldn't believe it, we weren't even in Hersonissos that night!!! We were completely discriminated against and when we complained about the Dutch girls (as did the English parties), we were laughed at and told to shut up.

We felt very threatened by the manager and had to sleep with things against our doors as he was very aggressive and walked into our rooms using his key TWICE when we were getting showered etc.

In short - Not recommended! After all the bad reviews written on the web, I'm shocked Cosmos can still use this as a resort!!! The manager is aggressive and rude and the apartments are filthy ! I wouldn't even give these apartments a zero out of ten.

My/Our Holiday Review:

this is by far the worst accomadation i have ever stayed in, was treated so badly it was beyond a joke.

we had originally booked into a 3* accomadation and this is by no means 3*

on our first night we asked the owner to call us a cab, which we were not sure if he did or not, so we hailed a cab instead, to which he replied "i'm not paying for your cab, your not in england now" not a good first impression.

2nd day no water for nearly a whole day, when we asked what the problem was he told us rudely "wait i have just woken up"

3rd day power cut in the evening so difficult to get ready to go out, had to wait in the dark for power to be resumed.

when we complained about things that should be there anyway, he told us that we were trouble makers and he would call the police, when we asked on what grounds? his reply "i have my ways".

our friends came to visit us at 9pm one evening and he called our room and shouted at us saying they had to leave,(they had only just arrived.

There is also a security gaurd of an evening who follows you back to your room, it was like being in a prison with "lights out".

The rep had a lack of interest and attitude.

It was so bad we left the second week and payed for our own accomadation.

Last thing the whole apartment is dutch, english people are not welcome here, seeing as we got the blame for things dutch people were doing, when we were'nt at the apartments alot.

i loved my stay here, everyone was so inviting, we spoke to the owners his friends the staff.

are rooms we cleaned regulary.we chose not to go on the days out but our rep was very helpful with talkin to us about the resort(although we'd been before) and also about things we needed to no like where the best place to eat was and the best places to see sites...what not to do and what to do.

i can reccomend this place to everyone, for people who like to louge about the pool to people who just want a place to crash after the clubs.

being near to the town center but not in all the noise and also being near to the beach was great, only a short distance to whatever we wanted to do or things we wanted.

this place gets a 10/10 from me.

We found the Adams apts to be basic but very clean and well equipt. The manager and his family were good fun and nothing was too much trouble for them.(including early morning calls if you're going on day trips) The pool was cleaned every day and the area around it was always clean and tidy. We were only there for a week, but our bedding was changed twice, and we got clean towels in our room each day.

It is a 10min walk into Hersonissos but it is worth it, as there are some fantastic resturants and great bars there.

Only a short bus ride too from Malia if you want a change of scenery.

A walk up the hill from the apartments is a lovely village(sorry cant spell its name) with great bars and cafes and plenty of gift and craft shops.

We enjoyed our stay there so much, we are going back again May 2006.

My/Our Holiday Review:

I have never been treated so appallingly by hotel staff in my whole life.

Our appartments were not cleaned and sheets and towels were not changed at all during the one week that we stayed. When we politely requested some clean towels the manager accused us of lying and later said there was 'nothing he could do about it' - how difficult to get clean towels out of the cupboard?!

Plug sockets hanging out of the wall, lost electricity (we were also treated as if we were lying about this when we mentioned it, although they could quite see for themselves that water was pouring out of the fridge where it was defrosting!), shower drained through a hole in the floor and my friend trod on glass by the pool.

Rep was highly unhelpful in rectifying these situations, treated us like we were trouble makers and like we were the first to complain (having read some of these reveiws I would be highly surprised if no-one else has complained about this accomadation).

As for Hersonissos, it's a long walk from these appartments down a dirt track. The town itself is OK but a bit of a chav's paradise. New York bar is nice and No Name restaurant did lovely food but took a long time! Star beach very nice for the daytime.

My/Our Holiday Review:

The Adams apartments are basic but very clean with a nice pool area. The only problem is, that the rooms are stifling and you will need to hire a fan.

As for Hersonissos itself,it is a great resort with plenty of lovely restaurants, shops and bars. However, for those of you that claim this is a noisy resort, full of 18-30ts, you have clearly not been to Magalluf or Playa las Americas! Me and my boyfriend found the resort wasn't noisy at all and was certainly not full of 18-30ts.Although the harbour area can get quite lively at night,it is certainly not in the faliraki or Malia style - we found it just right for us.

I advise you to try a little bar slightly further away from the harbour that has hammocks which back along the sea. It is quite romantic and away from the crowds.

We took a day trip to Chania and Rethymnon, which was lovely. I would give Heraklion a miss though - the shops are closed between 2.30pm-5.30pm, though the fort area is worth a visit.

Although the beaches are not brilliant in Hersonissos, at the end of the day a beach is a beach and they offered good watersports and relaxation.

For anyone that is thinking of going to Hersonnisos and is put off by the loud reputation it has been given on here like I was, don't be! It is a great place and suitable for all ages and tastes.

Beware of the gully around the pool, because if you fall into it you may end up confined to the grounds with your leg in plaster. If there are three of you be sure to check that the room has twin beds or you may end up sharing a double with a friend!

Hersonissos is lovely. Try No Name bar good quaility food and cocktails. Star Beach water park is worth a visit and if you are considering hiring a vehicle go to Moto Express in Hersonissos where Alex and Lainey will be happy to help.

Being a frequent visitor to Hersonissos there is far better accomodation than this.

My/Our Holiday Review:

After a four hour comfortable flight to heraklion, we reached our hotel which was the agrabella hotel in hersonnisos.

On arrival we introduced ourselves to the manager, he came across really nasty and spoke to us badly, we booked 2 rooms about 2 months before and was told we only had one room and would have to come back the following day to sort another room out. The room they had wasnt even in the complex we booked and was else where in hersonnisos, so we had one room between 4 adults to start the holiday. We managed to get another room the next day but again it wasnt in the complex we booked, the manager had some rooms in kastri village near the beach and thats where we stayed, the hotel was ok apart from loud music early in the morning and a pool what looked like pea soup. We had no air conditioning for 3-4 days , and it finally worked when our holiday was nearly over, the bedding never got changed in the week we was there, the towels never got changed either.

This was my first visit to crete and i wont be going again , i would tell anybody looking to book with the agrabella not to bother, the manager has a rotten attitude and wont let you speak, tink again before you book here! I came home on the 21st august with a cold and chest infection dirty smelly hotel.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Like others, we booked pretty much last minute. I didn't read others' reviews until after we got back.

The hotel and our room was clean and adequate. Not one creepy crawly seen all week. Yes, there were mossies, but you expect that and go prepared - don't you?

We had a room which unfortunately did not have a/c. Some rooms did have it, payable locally, but we didn't bother to see if we could move into one.

There were very few Brits in the hotel. However, that didn't bother us because we didn't go away to socialise with other hotle guests.

If you book a hotel for somewhere to sleep, bathe and get ready to go out, then this hotel is perfect. If you want to spend your holiday in the pleasant surroundings of a 5* hotel then this isn't it.

The family running the hotel were very pleasant and helpful.

Reading some of the other reviews when we got back led me to think 'you get what you pay for' - this was not an expensive holiday. It appears that some do want soemthing for nothing.

Oh yes, and there were safe deposit boxes available

My/Our Holiday Review:

On arrival at the Agrabella, having had a flight from hell courtesy of Thomas Cook overbooking, we were greeted by a man whom, without even a 'Yia sou', demanded passports, gave us our key and then marched off without even telling us where the room was, not a great start at all.

We managed to find our room, which I have to say was clean (the only + believe me) but apart from a long list of rules and items such as, a plug for your televison or an extra towel (all of which cost EXTRA money), there was no indication of when breakfast was (we were on a BnB deal....big mistake, they gave us greek salad...only had breakfast once) and even more worrying how the hell to get out of the place if there was an emergency....something that was put to the test later on during the week.

We stayed in the Agrabella for a week and it was only lucky that we both dont have children as I most definitely would have left by day two. The place was more like a youth hostel than a hotel, we went into Hersonissos a couple of night to party and came back late but the noise throughout the night, and I would usually be sparko having had a few glasses of vino, kept me awake constantly. There was some bloke who decided to shout what sounded like German football chants at 3 o'clock in the morning and on the third night we complained to which we were told by the man behind the counter (who when I asked for a plug for our sink he told me to use a sock!!), that we should go a say something and not expect the hotel to do it....what the! On a very serious note there was a power cut one night and all of the lights were out in the hotel.....there was NO emergency lighting on floors 2 or 3 (we were on 3) and no illuminous signage to direct you to exits. This I think is absolutely not acceptable in a hotel that Thomas Cook gives 3*...in fact I dont think it is acceptable in any hotel of any stars.

All in all I had a total of about two hours sleep anight which was annoying as I like to hike and do daytrips so I was knackered during the day and struggled to entertain my friend, a shopaholic so she loved Hersonissos, in the evening. Crete itself was beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed the south of the island. To be honest I would have prefered to go there but it was a last minute thing and I will definitely make sure I never go anywhere so touristy again, its just not worth it if you want abit of culture. And as for the Agrabella, well I was practically running from the place by the end.

Next time I will be sure to read the reviews on this sight before I book a hotel, something I didnt do till after I had booked the Agrabella, because as they say 'the proof is in the pudding' and Id rather trust the reviews of people who have actually been than a Thomas Cook Rep!!!!

Well what can we say, having booked a holiday with Thomas Cook to Tenerefe, then having to cancel as they changed our flights without informing us.... as we were taking off from Gatwick and landing in Glasgow... Thanks TC. Then we were delayed 18hrs due to a plane gearbox problem???? (Spent the night in the Hilton, but too tired to apreciate it!!!)

After we boarded the plane it was delayed a further 3 hours due to the NEW radar system going down. Just couldn't wait to get there.

On arrival we were pleasently suprised, having read some of the reviews on various Websites. The hotel seemed very clean and well presented. The room was adequatte with basic facilities. (All you need really) Beds were very comfortable. It has to be said that the hotel was mainly occupied by Polish, German and French Nationalities. We were the only Brits for the first week. The Pool was a little diappointing. The sun hardly hits the same spot for no more than 2 hours. We found ourselves travelling to Stalis beach or walking down to the harbour.

The food in the resort is awlful. Did not have one decent meal. We mostly ate in Stalis on the beach front or in the rose and crown (fantastic food and menu)

Would go back to the hotel, the family are really friendly. Its all you need for a cheap get away holiday!!!

My/Our Holiday Review:

THE RESORT.....Having left booking a holiday to the last minute, we went to our local travel agents and asked them to find us a holiday in a quiet area. We requested that we stayed in a small, quiet resort, that wasn't too far out in the sticks, so that there was some nightlife available should we fancy it.

After a long search, our travel agent came up with this hotel, in this resort. She claimed that Hersonissos was quiet, up-market, and cosmopolitan. One can only assume that she's been holidaying in Blackpool all her life and classes this area as cosmopolian and quiet!

I have never stayed in such an awful, grotty, filthy resort in all my life. It couldn't have been further from the cosmopolitan, quiet resort I was lead to believe that it was!

There was somebody on every corner trying to get you in a bar or sell you some tat. We even had one young Cretan wave his fist at us when we politely declined his offer of free entrance to his bar! Even on the beach there is always somebody after your hard-earned!!

In some shops, the staff would ask you if you understood the Euro (!!!!) before lying to you about how much something would cost in Sterling.

It strikes me that in this resort, and in the other resorts that we visited in Crete, that since the introduction of the Euro, locals will try anything to get you to put your hand in your pocket. People were rude, pushy and certainly not to be trusted!

THE HOTEL.....Where do I start? I have seen cleaner more appealing pig pens! It was a haven for all kinds of insects, and a firm favourite for mosquitos! We were told that air conditioning was available at an extra charge, but when we got to our room , there was no air conditioning unit!

We were staying on a B&B basis, and having made the mistake of actually going down for the breakfast one day, we were under no circumstances going to be found in the restaurant area again! There was warm milk, stale bread, cereal, ham and cheese that looked to have been sat there for a considerable amount of time. I can't imagine how I would have felt if I had paid to go All Inclusive!!!

Most hotel residents were not english, and it was obvious that us Brits were not welcome there. The hotel staff didn't like us, saying that most British people expected something for nothing, caused trouble, and had no respect. OK, I appreciate that as a nation, we have earned that reputation, but tarring us all with the same brush is hardly the attitude to have when running a business. Especially when they are more than happy to take our money - and plenty of it!

Here's a valuable tip for anybody braving this hotel....Whilst we were at this hotel, a girl had her room broken into. Her passport and all her currency was taken. It is worth knowing that people can quite easily climb over their balcony into your room so never leave your door leading to your balcony open!

I could go on for hours about this hotel and still not get my point accross about just how bad it is!!

Just imagine the worst dump that you've ever stayed in and add to that the most rude staff you have ever ebcountered. Now times this by ten and you're getting somewhere close!

AND FINALLY>>>>>As this holiday was a last minute booking, I was unable to research it until I had actually booked it. I Looked on this website and found terrible ratings from everyone who had stayed here. For holiday bookings that I make in the future, I will always consult the ratings on this website first! If I had done this before I booked this holiday, I would never have booked it!!

My/Our Holiday Review:

After reading the reviews about the Agrabella Hotel we were dreading the holiday. We must have stayed at a different Agrabella Hotel from the previous reviewers.

Our board arrangement was bed & breakfast so I can't comment on 'fully inclusive'. The buffet breakfast we had was very acceptable with enough choice. This is a family run hotel and the family is lovely. They are all friendly and helpful. Nothing is a problem and they do their best to make their guests feel at home. The swimming pool was cleaned and hosed down every day. I swam in it with no ill effects. I wish I could submit a photo to show you how pretty it is.

We had a studio with a terrace. The room was spacious and had the quietest a/c system I have known and that includes 5 star hotels. The bathroom was tiled and actually had a bath, apparently almost unknown in Greece and there was always hot water. I have to admit that there wasn't really any entertainment in the evenings but we weren't told that there would be any. It was a quiet hotel and that is what I like.

I would stay in this hotel again and feel sure that I would be greeted like an old friend.

Hersonissos is a lovely place, great for families, groups and individuals. So many places to see, great choice of food and the atmosphere is exciting. Best to explore and see the real Crete! I'd recommend a trip to the mountains, beautiful sights and wonderful tavernas.

The hotel accommodation may not be amazing. But for nice clean and comfortable rooms the apartments are very nice. The location of the hotel is fantastic with everything within walking distance yet avoiding the noise of bars and clubs.

If you're looking for a hotel with friendly staff then this is definetly the place. It is family run so they are helpful and fun, the barman Tony is a real entertainer!

My/Our Holiday Review:

We booked this hotel via the Thomson Holidays brochure and were very pleased with our choice. The hotel was about 30 mins from Heraklion Airport ( a bizarre airport with a long wait for luggage, but never mind!). Our flight was late evening so we were just keen to get to the resort after a less than average Thomson Holidays flight where you couldn't get drinks for an hour as the cabin crew were 'having their dinner' during a relatively short flight - never known that before!?

Finally arrived about eleven pm at the Hotel Albatros. First impressions were how welcoming the staff were and how clean the hotel seemed to be. We had a cold meal waiting for us in the fridge in our room which was lovely and unexpected.

The room was fairly basic but had everything you would need and was an OK size for a family of three. We couldn't see the view but in the morning we were pleased to find we had a pool and sea view. (The odd numbered rooms are the ones to go for if you book yourself).

The staff were lovely and friendly and rooms are cleaned daily, which was great. The maids aren't intrusive at all.

The pool is fine and it is a short walk into the resort which is mainly bars and restaurants around a harbour. Messogios bar is close to the hotel on the beach and has live music some nights (The hotel has no entertainment, but this didn't matter as there is plenty going on in the resort which is only a 5-10 minute walk away). There is a Spar type shop just around the corner from the hotel which was handy.

The hotel buffet-style meals were very good - something for everyone unless you are VERY fussy! The hotel wine is great and very cheap. You can pay for such things at the time or wait and have it put on your 'tab' to pay before you leave. We were pleasantly surprised by how inexpensive this was at the end of the week.

The hotel lifts (there are two) are small but reliable if you have mobility issues.

Don't bother with the Rep's talk - it's rushed and not very informative.

There is a Noddy train which takes you a few miles round Hersonissos. This was great. The aqua park is also well worth a visit.

This hotel is great if you want a relaxed, Chav-free holiday experience!

We would definitely go again.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Firstly the staff were great the food in the Hotel was good. And the entertainment nights were well done. Unfortunately they had building work for the full 2 weeks which woke us up in the morning and made breakfast on the terrace a no no and even affected the evening meal. The pool was also deserted because of the noise.

Don't have a room in the basement. There are store rooms which meant we were woken at 6am by staff talking loudly ouside our door scraping trollys and wooden furniture. We were already awake from the departing guests who leave their suitcases on this floor for early Am flights. 3am to 5am we were kept awake. We finally got a room change after 3 days but don't have room 417. it's on the stair well so you get noise from all floors, and its right next to both lifts and outside the fire doors. It felt like people waiting for the lift were in our room. The accoustics of the place is like being in a tunnel Stone floors and shoes make it impossible to be quiet so take ear plugs. i also haer that in peak season the front of the hotel is to be avoided as it faces onto a street and Dutch club 14/ 21 style hotel. It'll be nice when it's finished.

Hersonissos is for the young. Under 21. Not much in the way of entertainment for the over 21's. Empty clubs playing House and garage when they could be full of us oldies till the kids come out at 12. Touts accosting you for village heights with the are you English line. (It's a golf resort.) Just say 'Niet Ruski!' and they leave you alone.)

If you walk the front you get accosted for every bar, club and eatery. Scooters punctuate the night air with noise and fumes. The only places we found in the two weeks were the afore mentioned villages and the saloon bar, Pog ma thoin and, Shinnagans (Watch out for Bryan who sings in the irish pubs he's worth seeing. The Cretan night was ok but could have lasted longer they tell you 12 but it ends at 11. Places to eat and be entertained Old hersonissos, Koutolafouri and Piscapiano have good charecter. As does Sisi, Agia Nickolias and Elounda. Heraklion and Knossos. Give Lerapetra a miss. But see the mountains and the Plateaus.

My/Our Holiday Review:

started the holliday with a 2 hour delay from manchester airport eventualy got to heraklion airport 4 hours and 20 minuits later on landing we were being chased up the runway by fire engines after the pilot told us we were having a serious problem with the flaps on the plane, eventualy we landed safely a bad start to the holiday, we then had to get off the bus after we arrived at our hotel and walk from the bus down the road to the albatros no rep in sight she just pointed out where it was and left the rest to us didnt find the rep helpful at all only when she sold us 2 trips costing almost £150 only to find you could have booked the same two localy for £50 good profits they make not any more,

anyway the hotel was first class friendly staff who couldnt do enough to help you that made up for the lack of seing the rep, fantastic holiday people are so friendly we will certainly go back and visit but if you do go make sure that you request a sea view room as it gets very noisy on the front road side, and visit the trinka bar around the corner their manos the owner will look after you drink wise and food wise we were there every night from 10 till whatever time you want to leave the best local bar in hersonissos

My/Our Holiday Review:

Just back from a couple of weeks at the Albatross Hotel,we've been to Greece a few times & this was the best hotel we've stayed in.The hotel was spotless & the staff were very friendly polite & helpful. At breakfast it was a suprise to find fruit, yoghurt, fresh bread, bacon & eggs(although the latter were a bit rubbery sometimes)rather than dry rolls & dry cheese.

The room was basic but clean & the bathroom for a change actually had a bath, but you still had to hold the shower head,so anyone within 10 feet also gets a shower. We were on the opposite side of the hotel to the pool on the 4th floor, which gave us a view over the roof tops towards the mountains, the poolside rooms look out to sea.Air conditioning was a must as temps in the high 30's..this was an extra at 6 euro's a day.

Hersonnissos itself was buzzing plenty of bars, clubs & restaurants(Manos is well worth a visit)overlooking the beaches & harbour. You only need to walk a short distance off the main streets for quieter bars & restaurants.

The best beach in my opinion is the one nearest to the hotel,it's fine shingle but I had to get some beach shoes as the rocks are within about ten feet of the shore so you have to negotiate them before you can have a swim in the sea.

The villages of Piskopiano & Koutouloufari are well worth a visit, about 25mins walk up a steep hill but worth it.

All in all a very cosmopolitan resort mainly Dutch,Scandinavians & Irish a good mix of nationalities,we'll be visiting Crete again.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

OK. The hotel was very nice with the local areas such as lounge and bar being excellent. The rooms are what you expect in Greece with size, bathroom has a hand-held shower which isn't ideal. Breakfast (7.30 - 10) is buffet with served coffee/tea & is very good value. The staff are all very friendly and helpful - full marks.

The location of the hotel is good. Up a side street and just 1 minute from the beach and 2 mins to harbour etc. Things such as go-karting (15euros 10 mins) are about 10 mins away but is a nice walk, also here you will find crazy golf (4euros) but do this first as you get 10& off karting when you take your score sheet. Horseriding is nice (15euros 30mins) which is suitable for even beginners (you go for a walk on the beach - lovely) there two waterparks but one was closed down when we were there but the other you would have to go by taxi - we did this at 23euros there, 15 euros in and 23 euros back!!!

There are lots of places to eat but not what you would call cheap unless your after a pizza. Street vendors are a total headache and can spoil things after a few days - the shots they promise are generally just juice. Nightlife is good with lots of bars and some fab Irish bars with live music - good crack!

Overall, this is a good holiday, mostly German, Dutch or Irish. Not much to look at though if you like to sightsee. Must go snorkling as there are millions of fish etc

My/Our Holiday Review:

This was our first hol to Crete having been to several other Greek islands previously and we had a really great holiday. Our Thomson Holidays rep was very good and deserves a mention although cannot remember her name.

First the HOTEL - although the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Elenor who helped us hire a car and recommended several excellent restaurants, the hotel can only be described as very basic. Our rooms were small, as were the balconies.

The bathrooms were a real disappointment - very small, with the hand held shower head which we have unfortunately come across before, and the shower curtain that doesn't quite reach the top of the shower tray. Very unpleasant. Our sons' room was at the front of the hotel and overlooked a busy road which made it noisy. However, when requested, they were able to move to another room which overlooked the pool and was much quieter. We had to pay for air conditioning and we thought at around 70 euros per room, it was exploitative. They did compromise with us when we complained and only charged for one room.

The swimming pool was small but adequate. Snackbar was average - we tended to walk up the main road, turn left and go to a snackbar up on the right hand side. Cannot comment on the breakfast as we were never up in time. Brits were definately a minority in the hotel and the resort but this didn't spoil our holiday one bit. The LOCATION of the hotel is excellent - just a few minutes from beach (walk down through the field) and bars, restaurants etc. on the seafront.

The RESORT - is excellent! No complaints at all. It's very lively and although the majority of people are twenty somethings, we didn't feel out of place. Bars and restaurants line the seafront. These were all very similar though and not really very "Greek". We would definately suggest you try the Mythos Restaurant which is up a side street (Elenor can tell you where to go) - the staff are fantastic and greet you like an old friend after the first visit. They gave us a bottle of wine on our last night. The food is FAR superior to that served on the seafront and more traditional. Prices are also very good. Other restaurants that we found in side streets were of a similar high standard. We spent quite a few evenings in the Temple Bar listening to a live band - The Dogs Band - fantastic! They seemed to play there 3 or 4 evenings a week, alternating with another "band" but wouldn't waste time listening to them.

The beach is lovely. It is a bit rocky at the waters edge where you first go onto it, but walk down a bit futher to the left and it is sandy all the way in.

Do visit the Aquarium if you like that sort of thing. It's not very big but is interesting.

We hired a car from Betacar/Europcar - we had a jeep which was great and very robust as we found out when a greek driver crashed into us on a corner (they tend to drive very fast) but only scratched the bumper. We told Betacar but they didn't query this at all - thank goodness for fully comp insurance. Would definately recommend you stick to the main road - the road signs are hopeless - when there are any at all.

Knossos is great to visit - very impressive ruins - we drove ourselves there - much cheaper than the organised trip. We paid for one of the guides who lie in wait for you just inside the gateway but I don't think this is really necessary as there are information boards in certain places that tell you all you need to know.

The boys (husband included)went go-karting at Star Beach, and we drove to the waterpark which was also very good.

Hope this is useful!! Have great holiday!

My/Our Holiday Review:

We had booked this holiday as a honeymoon destination after it was advertised as a 5* Deluxe in the Thomson Holidays Prestige Brochure. However, I have no idea how this hotel could be given that rating as having stayed in Crete, Cyprus, Rhodes and Spanish places before, it was soon clear that the hotel is no better than a 4*.

Room: On arrival we were very disappointed as we were given a room with a blue door (I see someone else mentioned that) and inside the room was terrible. Old, dirty, with air conditioning that smelt, no balcony and no view of anything. Immediately telephoned reception to let them know it was far from unacceptable and to be fair the next morning we were immediately moved to a more modern acceptable room, with balcony, overlooking the sea in the hotels "VIP" area. Basically if you get one of these rooms the accomodation is good, however many of the rooms in this hotel are not even of 3* standard so try to book this before you go.

Apart from that, the hotel is a lovely setting with nice green areas, 3 excellent pools, many shops on site and a childrens play area.

The Food: Although there was always a sizable choice of food, we found it to be largely very bland and doesn't really cater for "UK tastes". Indeed even for children the choice seemed limited to a very watery Spagetti Bolognese. Breakfasts were very poor, with stringy bacon and awful mini sausages that looked like Frankfurgers but didn't taste like them. You also had to pay extra for freshly squeezed orange juice which considering you are HB is a bit much. All in all, was disappointed with the food and ended up going into Hersonissos by the second week to eat. Also beware of the prices. On the first night we were stung 18 Euro for a bottle of wine we later saw in the Supermarket for 3 Euro.

The Entertainment: Very poor in the evening as it starts with a childrens disco and then appears to die out. Gave up on this very early as you can get a bus into Hersonissos from the hotel for 1 euro pp or a taxi for 6 euro. However you can't really do this for 14 nights so nights spent in the hotel mainly having a drink on the balcony.

Resort: The hotel is actually in Anasaris. Anasaris is very quiet, nothing happens here at all. The main resort of Hersonissos is good. Plenty of places to eat (food was ok we thought - not great) and drink. Loads of bars for the younger crowd that go on late into the night. New York being our favourite bar with very good music. Drinks are 5 euro for cocktails & shorts such as Vodka, but the measures are lethal. Very small beach.

Overall, we had a good time. The weather was scorching for the two weeks with barely a cloud. The accomodation was grand once we were upgraded but definitely considering some of the other rooms and the food, I can't recommend it as a 5* hotel at all and can't recommend you pay a 5* price to go here..

My/Our Holiday Review:

This is an absolutely excellent hotel with amazing facilities. All the pools are clean with ample amounts of sunbeds. The quieter pool tucked around is the best one for adults as there are very few children.

If you have kids then throughout the day there is constant entertainment from beach vollyball to darts with all the event team really friendly.

The rooms are spacious and clean but they lack some amenities, but that wasnt a real problem as the rest of the hotel made up for it. The only bad point i had about the room is the fact that it only had one socket point and to use anything the television had to be unplugged but hey you cant have everything.

The best point of the hotel would have to be the food, we went half board and there was SO much choice. The restaurant was buffet style and for breakfast there was everything from cereal to greek salads. Get the right place in the restaurant and the views overlooking the Med at sunset are amazing. I would seriously recommend the Taverna Pergola which is situated in the hotel complex, guests with half or full board have a 22 euro discount on dinner and the food is excellent if you fancy a change from the main restaurant.

The hotel is situated nearly 3miles from the main resort of herssonosis despite the brochures 2.5km, but taxis in greece are the cheapest in europe and only cost 5euro each way. The main resort of Hersonossis was not to our liking because its a mass of fast food restaurants and pushy barman, but hey we are english...

Overall we had an excellent holiday with all the staff in the hotel being friendly and helpful. I would definitely recomend this hotel

Hotel very well kept and absolutely spotlessly clean. Family who own hotel do all they can to make the stay enjoyable. Snacks around the pool are very tasty and cheap. The chef is a woman and food very delicious and tasty that she cooks. Hotel is not located well if you are not too good walking as it is up a hill, but well worth it for the views and the fact you are off the main noise. Star Beach is about 15 minutes walk and offer every amenity for all age groups with a very clean beach and lovely sandy sea (no rocks or seaweed underfoot). Hotel caters for all age groups and everyone is very friendly. Most people gather before or after around the bar of an evening so it is easy to get to know your fellow holiday makers.

We are returning again in September as we enjoyed it so much and there is a lot of the island we plan to visit.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Just arrived home from Annabelle Village after the most relaxing two weeks I can remember.

Very, very hot. 40 degrees when we arrived. They were experiencing a heatwave at the time, even by Cretian standards.

Hotel grounds are stunning, palm trees everywhere, bourgonvilla, hibiscus. It was just beautiful and very well maintained. We thought the grounds were well set out and enjoyed the walk to the main hotel and pool etc.

The room itself was very clean and comfortable. Yes, I understand what other reviewers refer to in as much as the furniture is a bit dated but all was in working order and well looked after. One comment is that our youngest child had a put-you-up bed which was fine but very uncomfortable and towards the end of the holiday had started to complain about it. Clean towels when you wanted them and room was serviced every day without exception.

We were on half board and thought the food was excellent. A very good variety at both breakfast and dinner. Not much repetition we thought and as much as you wanted. Never had to wait for a table, staff very helpful and friendly. We didn't feel rushed you simply ate at the speed you wanted. One main thing to point out though is that they are very hot on the length of mens trousers in the evenings. We were very annoyed that Thomas Cook don't make this more apparent in the brochure. (Only in small print at the back that it might occur!) The trouser/short must fall below the mans knee. Luckily my husband did have some like that but it did limit what he could wear and we saw quite a few people being turned away - very embarrassing. All that needs to happen is for Thomas Cook to print this on the hotel page in the brochure. Problem solved.

There are three swimming pools - two outside and one inside. The bottom pool is nice with the beach just by it and comfy sun loungers. Always seemed easier to get a bed there. This is also where all the daytime entertainment went on. However we enjoyed the top pool better with the pool bar. This was real luxury and nice and quiet. As mentioned in previous reports the pool bar is manned by Ireni who is lovely and will do all she can to make you welcome. Get ready to rise early to get a sunbed though in August as the best always go by about 8am!

The hotel is outside of the main resort but we liked this as we don't like a lot of hustle and bustle but there is plenty to do and watch and our teenagers never really got bored. Entertainment is the usual holiday variety but mainly in Italian which didn't bother us.

All in all we had a wonderful time here and would definitely return to see more of Crete at some time in the future.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We spent a very relaxing week at this hotel from 9th to 16th June this year. In general the hotel is really nice, with some things that exceed expectations and a few others that don't meet them.

Restaurants: there is the main buffet style restaurant, open from 6.30 to 9.30 for evening meal, 12.30 to 2.30 for full board guests and 7-10 for breakfast. The breakfasts were very nice with plenty of choice; food was always fresh and piping hot. Selections for breakfast include the following: Scrambled eggs with or without herbs and peppers, sausages, fried eggs, boiled eggs cooked both 3 and 5 minutes-nice touch, several pastry items that were Greek, yoghurts, jams, honey, croissants, bread rolls, bread for toasting, uncut loaves with a cloth and knife so you could cut your own slice, malt loaf, freshly squeezed orange juice, cereals and loads of fruit (melon, cherries, kiwi, pears, peaches..). This was all very impressive and tasty. Coffee is poured for you, and you can help yourself to many types of tea or juices.

Evening meal: again very nice selection, there was a section for many types of bread and rolls, a soup that was always lovely and never watery, about 14 different types of pasta or rice or pate or bean dishes (all cold), loads of salad items including different types of lettuce and all the trimmings and sauces, and a selection or about 10 hot items which over our week included pizza squares, pasta with different sauces, spaghetti, dolmades, many meat and fish options- sometimes breaded sometimes in sauce, potatoes of all varieties..

We also had one lunch which was superb with loads of choice. Desserts were plentiful and tasty, traditionally Greek such as Kadafi and Baklava, with fruit and ice cream to supplement. The atmosphere we never found rushed, service was just right and you could sit there as long as you wished with as many courses as you could manage! Tablecloths always promptly changed and clean for next people.

The room we had was lovely and spacious, as was the balcony which we had to both put our arms out end to end to touch each side as it was so wide! It was always spotlessly clean after maid service, they would even wash up our glasses and leave them ready for use again. The balcony and room was swept every day, and we requested and extra pillow which arrived within the hour. Plenty of storage, although it may become tight if children were in the room. Free safe and fridge nice touches, complimentary toiletries and shower cap! Bathroom well appointed, the room had everything we needed. Only downsides are the lack of English TV channels (this sounds really sad but we like to have it on whilst getting ready to go out) and no coffee or tea facilities (we were ok as we don't drink much tea, but for a 5* this should be included).

The pool areas were nice; we used the top area with the swim up pool bar as it was quieter. Always very clean, if you were up early enough you could see the maids hard at work scrubbing the tiles etc. Sun beds did fill up but the amount seemed just right, we never went down before 10am and always got 2 together. Once we went to the pool at 1.30pm and still got two no problems. The pool bar had half price happy hour from 2.30 to 3.30; we took advantage of this as Cocktails were 7E full price which can work out expensive once you get a taste for them! The bottom pool had daytime activities, but we can't really comment on those. The hotel grounds are lovely and gardeners were always hard at work. Generally everything was spotlessly maintained and clean.

Staff were almost without exception very helpful, the lady at the pool bar was great. On our first day we went to collect our pool towels, we asked a man where we were supposed to go- he insisted we take a seat while he went and collected them for us. There was only one receptionist who was unhelpful- but the rest were lovely. The manager was also very visible, always chatting to guests in the restaurant and wandering around the grounds and pools throughout the day.

In terms of accuracy of the 5* rating, I would perhaps say a 4* plus would have been better, some things just weren't up to scratch. We have stayed Thomson Holidays Gold before, where staff bring cold towels and fruit round the pool in the afternoons, and they have professional entertainment most evenings. The Annabelle doesn't offer this, which would be good for a 5*. Some touches are nice, e.g. The 3 and 5 minute eggs, the porter who carries your luggage to and from the rooms, the prompt delivery of an ironing board if required.. The entertainment wasn't up to much, the team (Italian I think) performed dances most evenings, but the stage area had plastic garden seats to sit and watch which wasn't nice. We tended to go to the top lobby bar with outside seating, much nicer but only a man and keyboard every night!

Location- this we felt really let the hotel down. We knew it wasn't in the centre of Hersonnisos (thank goodness!), but the area was really difficult to walk around. The roads didn't have paths around the hotel entrance; there was a particularly hairy bend we witnessed 2 near misses on. There is a supermarket very near, as well as a bar with big TV (essential for world cup games!). We would buy some sparkling wine for only 8E and chill it in our fridge (you get wine glasses in room), then sit on balcony and drink it! It is 6E for a taxi in to Hersonnisos; we didn't like this resort at all. You couldn't walk along the promenade without being accosted at every stop by people trying to con you by offering "4 for the price of 1" on drinks (as if!) We picked out and returned to what we thought looked like the best restaurant (Cave D'Ouro) with white linen and candles etc. It was awful! This seemed like the best and was still bad, summing up our opinion of the resort in general.

Finally- the airport. We travelled with Thomas Cook and felt they let us down on every front, our return flight was delayed by 14 hours, during which they didn't even provide drinking water! A complete disaster, we would never use Thomas Cook again. The hotel reps, whilst very nice and helpful, was only in the hotel for a couple of hours 3 times a week- we had a problem specific to something she had told us and by the time she was back it was our last day and too late to sort it out.

Overall the hotel is really good with few negatives except location, but we wouldn't return to Crete. The capital was large, dirty and charmless, and even Knossos was a disappointment. Other resorts may be lovely, but we saw nothing that gave us a favourable impression of Crete as a whole. Pick up the hotel and move it to Corfu, we would return next year! So, You will enjoy your stay if you've already booked, if you haven't- think carefully. Hire a car, and don't believe the brochure description of Hersonnisos as 'Cosmopolitan'-it's really not!!

This hotel was really nice but a word of warning, at least 90% of the guests were Italian holidaymakers and everything from the food to the entertainment was aimed at them. This is the only negative aspect of the hotel.

The rooms were lovely, fully air conditioned, a fridge and a free safety deposit box, exceptionally clean, the best maid service we have ever known.

The staff at the hotel we very friendly and helpful. On arrival you get a token for a beach towel which you can change as often as you like, we found these really good and there is no need to pack any of your own.

The food was really good but by the end of the two weeks we were ready for a change. Unfortunately there are no restaurants near to the hotel, you will have to go into Hersonissos which is a 10 minute ride away. The hotel is in a little village called Anissaras where there is only a bar/snack bar, supermarket and a gift shop.

The holiday overall was good and I would go back but maybe only for a week.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Overall an excellent, very relaxed holiday.

All staff were very friendly and all service was very good. Spotlessly clean.

The walk to Hersonissos town is about 1/2 an hour and it does allow you to find some small quiet sandy coves in St Georges Bay. The sea seemed to be calmer for swimming/snorkelling although there were not many fish to see. 2 beds, parasol, table 8euros a day. For lunch a small stroll up hill is a lovely Taverna. It just made a nice change from the hotel and felt as if we had been out for the day.

We did the daily boat cruise to Sissi.

The queue to get on the boat was very irritating, it was very hot we were kept waiting for a long time as everyone had to pose for photographs, which were to be sold to you later. Sissi was a pretty fishing village, would have prefered to stay there longer rather than going on to Malia (not impressed)

We ate in the old town one evening, it was lovely as sometimes I felt at the hotel that I was in Italy not Greece.

The guests are predominantly Italian and I did feel that a lot of focus was on them.

The entertainment left a lot to be desired, it was all done by an Italian entertainment team. Although they did their best and worked very hard day and night sometimes it pays to bring in professional's.

One evening Greek dancers entertained us, they were very good and should be left to

run their own show without the help of the'team'.

The food was good but again more pasta than Greek food.

We chose to eat in the Taverna most nights, it is the same buffet as the top restaurant(not quite so much choice)but we found it to be much more relaxed and a nicer setting. This has to be booked at the main restaurant the day before (there is no extra cost)The down side is it closes at 9.30p.m.

The hotel next door is worth a visit. The Aldermar Royal Mare, This is a luxurious hotel with more swimming pools than people!

It has many bars, restaurants, shops, all empty. Most people we saw there were from the Annabelle just having a look. Although it was sheer luxury I didn't feel comfortable there as it was too quiet, no atmosphere(in August)maybe too expensive? I don't know.

If you walk all the way through Royal Mare and turn right onto the road you will find the Golden Dream Bar, they serve great cocktails, large screen sports T.V., swimming pool and friendly staff. We made quite a few visits there.

My 15-year-old daughter had a good holiday because of the many friends (English and Italian) she made but like most places not a lot for teenagers to do.

Yes I would go back if all I wanted was a relaxed pool/beach holiday. The added bonuses were beach towels, lovely accommodation,a fridge which was a godsend,(although I kept filling it with Cretan wine I never got the taste for it, different is all I can say, an aquired taste I think!) T.V.(sad I know) 3 English speaking channels,CNN, BBC News 24 and BBC Prime, good air con, spotlessly clean.

Finally to some friends we met "Yes the T-Shirts were still there all day" Thanks for your company!

My/Our Holiday Review:

After booking our holiday i looked at all the reviews the Anatoli was given and was quite impressed with everyone's reports.

When we arrived at the apts the rep pointed in the direction of the apartment and left us to find it ourselves, charming. The following day we met our own rep Nina who was absolutely fantastic, really friendly and helpful, 20 out of 10 for her! Sorry but the apts were shabby and a bit run down, if some TLC was given to them it would be an ok place to stay. The cleaner actually only 'cleaned' our apt twice, 2 days after we got there and on our last day; suffice to say that the toilet which led into the middle of the room wasn't pleasant in the slightest. We had to leave the windows and doors open at all times to clear out the smell from the toilet. The discovery of a wasp bike outside the bedroom window put an end to leaving it open so we had to put up with the smell during the night.

I'm sure they would be really friendly, if you spend all your time at their pool, drink from their bar, eat from their restuarant and fill their till. What business wouldn't love you. Unfortunately we didn't spend that much money there so we weren't a priority to them.

As for the food there, very poor and made us feel sick. Everyone has been raving about the steaks, they were horrendously terrible! The best meal we had was in a place called Cheers on the main street in Hersonissos, fantastic service, fantastic food and a lovely place to sit and watch the night go by. The Star Beach beside our apartments was great, there was plently to do during the day for both adults and kids, Hersonissos was great too, plenty good places to eat and drink beside the harbour, great shops/jewellers etc.

Overall we enjoyed our holiday as we tried to spend as little time as possible in the Anatoli Apartments, they were very, very dissapointing. Hersonissos was great and we would definately go back, but definately not to this apts.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Ok so we go on the net for a late holiday 3 weeks ago and by chance find 11 days at the Anatoli for just over £1200. A quick trawl through the reviews and it appears that we have a bargain as everyone gives the Anatoli good reviews.

Well after 11 days of total relaxation and fantastic food it's easy to see why Costa and Effi desrve the ratings that they get. The personal touch was evident right throughout the holiday and we loved every second of our stay. Sons George and Rafa were fantastic while Antonis the waiter was fun right throughout. Olivia behind the bar was a good giggle whilst the top lady was Alma who cooked, swept, made drinks served in the shop and generally smiled her way through the day! Costa's cooking meant that we never went anywhere else in the evening and the kids all tried new foods (swordfish, rabbit, goat, veal etc) because it's all homecooked and fresh ingredients. star Beach isjust across the road for those who want something for the kids a bit extra but to be honest the centre of Hersonissos is the pits (a bad blackpool) but why go when you have an oasis at the Anatoli.

The most fantastic holiday and easy to see why Costa and Effi get so many repeat visitors. If you can book it don't miss it! Superb!!!!!

My/Our Holiday Review:

We have just come back from a fun filled holiday at the Anatoli apts.

We were sceptical as the week begun, the clubs and bars were a long walk into the town and when we got there we were hassled every inch down the road. Most people were from the Netherlands, so it wasnt unusual for them to think we were lying by saying 'english' whilst refusing to go in the clubs.

By the 3rd day we were fed up and decided to just stay in the hotels bar/restaurant, now we wish we had from the beginning! The staff were friendly, the food was cheaper and tasted better than any of the other restaurants we had been to. Although it took us a while to clock onto the 'bloody waiter' joke..

George is the coolest guy ever!! Raphael is the funniest! The staff altogether are fantastic, Olivia and Alan are really cool, hope u are there working next year too!

Only complaint about the apts were that ours was full of mosquitos, as was the bar at night. It was far too hot to use the sheets, but open a door/window and get eaten alive!! Take loads of repellent!!

Would we go back?? We would love to, just hope its as good next year!

My/Our Holiday Review:

We booked a family holiday here after reading the excellent reviews on it. We had three apartments which were dark and dingy. Only one small window next to the door.

Some people have described this accomodation as excellent, well we are not a picky family and in no way could they merit excellent. There is neglect all around, broken sunbeds thrown into the bushes and left to rust. All our three bathrooms smelled of urine until we cleaned it. You had to get a very quick shower as the tray filled up within a couple of minutes and took a further ten to drain. Water oozed onto the bathroom floor when toilet was flushed and we had to constantly mop the floor to avoid slipping over.Despite advertiseing T.V. microwave air conditioning and toaster none were available. We asked for a toaster and were promised one the next day but we never got it. The pool was a good size but we never seen it cleaned in the 7 days we were there. Dead insects were never removed unless the guests did it and larger insects lay on the bottom of the pool and no attempt to remove them either.

The staff were friendly and the food in the Taverna was quite good and reasonably priced but there was much better places in Town, noteably "The Greek Corner" on the main street and the "No Name" restaurant.

The Star Beach Water Park is right out side the apartments and is excellent for children. Entrance is free but there were no public seats/ benches if you wanted to sit down for a few minutes. Bus and taxi are quite cheap and the resort around the harbour area is very pleasant. Thomson Holidays s/Portland Direct have dropped this accomodation from the 2006 summer brochure and I'm not surprised. We have been on many holidays in the past few years but we can say that this accomodation is by far the worst we have stayed in.

Olympic Holidays are taking over for 2006. Needless to say we shall not be returning to these apartments but we will return to Crete.

Colin & Vera.

Came back yesterday from the Anatoli Apartments,we have had a most enjoyable holiday and have been looked after extremely well by Effie and Kostas nothing was to much trouble. The food in the taverna was very good (so was the red medium sweet). The apartments were basic but nevertheless comfortable and very clean, bedlinen and towels changed every other day.

The beach which is just over the road was very small but we enjoyed relaxing round the pool with the other guest who were all very friendly. Once again I thank Effie and Kostas for making our holiday one of the best we have had.

We had one of the best holidays ever. The Anatoli is small but beautiful, and is ideal for families . Costa and Effy welcome everyone as if they had known you for years . We met so many nice people who we now call our friends. the apartments are basic but very clean and the larger apartments are very spacious. The food is excellent and costa will go out of his way to provide what the customer wants. We could not find anywhere else with such quality of food, and the childrens menu is very good and the prices are reasonable.I would strongly reccomend the Anatoli for families it has its own pool also starbeach is just a step away, which has water slides for young and old also watersports , the beach, bars and more swimming pools.Never before has anywhere been so enjoyable to visit

Crete is a beautiful island and has many beautiful beaches, towns also it has small quaint villages a must to see. The scenery is breathtaking and the people are unforgettable .You have to go to know.

The best holiday ever.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Booked online via olympicholiday com - and saved a lot of money. Very simple to do as well.

Airport: Read other reports about Herkalion airport and was dreading it. However, it was fine - much like any other large holiday airport.

Hotel: Very pleased on arrival - even though it was midnight. Excellent service from reception and everything well explained. Room safe is free - and you also get handed the TV remote control. There is a charge if you lose either. You also get tokens to exchange for beach towels - so no need to take any with you, and you can change them as often as you like.

Food: Stayed HB and the breakfast and dinners were good - although it was buffet style and a bit hectic at times. Also, not a huge selection for young children. Our little boy is 4 and didn't eat much in the restraunt in the evening.

There is also a Taverna in the hotel but this closes in the evening. I would highly recommend going there for lunch. The food and the setting, overlooking the pool, is fnatastic. I could have sat there all day.

Swimming Pools: There are two swimming pools. The bottom one, which is also the largest, is the busiest and the one where the activities take place. The top one is much quieter and in my opinion much nicer - with a swim up bar. At both there are plenty of sun beds and luckily nobody gets up at the crack of dawn to reserve their sunbeds.

Beach: The beach is nice. Fine shingle with free sunbeds. There are watersports but sea was quite choppy when we were there.

Entertainment: In the evening there is entertainment outside next to the bottom pool bar. It is very pleasant. Evening starts with a childrens disco, then a show for the adults. As all of the entertainment staff are Italian and there is not much English spoken - but it is still very good. Waiters and waitresses take your drinks orders at your table - and provide free nuts and crisps.

Adjoining Hotels: I didn't know this from all the brochures I looked at but the Annabelle is immediately next door to it's two sister hotes - Knossos and the Royal Mare - both of which we considered before opting for the Annabelle. The Knossos looked okay, but not as nice as the Annabelle, Whilst the Royal Mare looked very swish - but I feel is more suited for couples. If you have got a young family - the Annabelle is by far the best. Also nearby, alomh the beach (and next to the Royal Mare) is the Creten Village - this looked more downmarket than the others, but it does have a great water slide that you can use (as it is also a sister hotel of the Annabelle). Definetley worth going on a few times.

Water City: Speaking of water slides, we took anexcursion to Water City. This is about 20 minutes away and up in the mountains. It is a huge water park although limited rides for the under 5s - still great fun though and I would recommend going to. But be warned that at about 2pm the Club 18 to 30 crew turn up - so be prepared for some bad behaviour and bad language.

Room: Our room was superb - very Grecian. We had excellent air conditioning and a reasonably sized fridge. Also a nice balcony. It was kept spotlessly clean each day and was very comfortable. With regards to the fridge I would suggest stocking it up from the shop just outside the hotel entrance - it is quite large and reasonable. There is a small shop on thehotel grounds, but limited choice and more expensive.

Kids Club: My little boy didn't use this, as he was happy in the pool every day. However, it looked good and the kids seemed to be enjoying themselves. Majority of guests are Italian (50%), with British (25%) and Germans (25%) - it appears that all of the children tn the Kids Club were Italian when we were there.

Playground: There is a nice playground for the children.

Summary: All in all this is a fantastic hotel. It feels very Greek - it even has a church in the grounds and is beautifully designed. There is little, if anything, I can criticize. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Superb hotel, superb staff, superb holiday

Booked on a last minute holiday and was not disappointed. Annabella village is a lovely complex with 2 excellent swimming pools, a varied entertainment programme and superb food, situated right on the beach.

Its a mixed nationality hotel, with First class service on everything from cleaners to pool attendants.

The food choice was wide ranging, you could literally try something different every night. They also did really nice breakfast pancakes

We got free beach towels which you can change every day. This was a bonus that wasn't mentioned in the brochure.

Would recommend you stock your fridge from the shop at the top of the road, not the one on site, as this was a little pricey. Also there was an excellent little cafe next to the shop showing sporting events, which did very reasonable and very tasty lunchtime food

Would recommend you got on the mini train, this was great fun and you saw a lot of the surrounding area. The centre is a good 30 minutes walk away, but get the bus or a taxi, they're not expensive and get you there in no time.

Would definitly recommend this hotel and would go back if re-visiting Crete.

I along with 7 friends arrived back from hersonisoss yesturday and are already planning to return this summer.

The aquarius was a great place to stay it had the perfect location right in the centre of hersonissos! It was a 30 secs walk from the nearest supermarket and about 5 minutes from the beach. The pool was small but adequate, good to play silly games in. The staff did not really talk to us but other people said they were friendly.

The room was cleaned almost everyday but the towels and sheets were not changed in our room, other people had theirs changed. The apartments had a mix of age groups between 18 and elderly people. Although we were not returning till around 5 am we were very quite and had no complaints from other guests! The nearest bars and tavernas were only a few minutes walk away and the shops are very near by.

Although the apartments were just off a main road we were never bothered by the noise of traffic except after the greece match but that didnt matter because we were out celebrating along with the greeks.

I would recommend the apartments to anyone! The only thing that i would say though is that it is full of young people such as ourselves so if you have young children this may not be the best place because although we were quiet when we arrived home others may not be! On the whole this was a fantastic holiday and i wish i was still there!

We had not been to Greece for 8 years we noticed it has realy become more sofisticated but not to commercial . We were disoppointed with the reviews we had read about the hotel but we knew from past expierance not worry to much .

This was our fourth all inclusive holiday, we have never been disappointed. Iam glad to say this was the best in many areas . The hotel has been refurbished recently with a new piece added where the families stayed. The family rooms were great basicly a large room split in two by a bathroom. The hotel was spotless staff friendly . All inclusive was self service beer wine oozo metrexa oozo tea coffee soft drinks and water. Food was great like most all inc you get fed up near the end but more due to overindulgence. Never any ques or problems with sunbeds. Our kids didnt attend the club the only down side for us was that there were not many english children but it ment we went out more to the beech.

The local resort Stalis was within walking distance but after a day in the sun the kids struggled with the walk back up the hill. Prices appeared still reasonable. We booked trips localy they were cheaper. Local bus was good . Watch out for 4 wheel motorbikes that people hire. No entertainment at night but this has its advantages. Nana Beach next door good for shows but again few english . We felt value for money.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We arrived in Crete looking forward to having a relaxing week away from the children. It was the middle of the night but the hotel looked quite nice. We were greeted by a young man half asleep, who took us to a room. A room in the old Cretan building, on the ground floor. After 5 minutes of trying to get the door open, he said the key didnt work and we would have to go to another room. He collected another key and led us to a room on the top floor.

There were no lifts, there was not even ample lighting and the stairs were narrow and slippy. He opened the door for us and said we could ask any questions in the morning.

When we walked in I couldnt believe my eyes. I was too tired to be bothered that night but was gutted when I awoke 5/6 hours later.

Our bed consisted of concrete blocks with a mattress on top. The headboard was at the side of me rather than above our heads. The bed was only really big enough for 1 person.

In the tiny bathroom there was a toilet, shower cubicle and sink. The shower wasnt even hung from the wall. You had to hold it in your hand in order to shower. No matter how careful you were the floor was always soaking wet when you got out.

There is absolutely no way that this was a 4 star hotel it would be lucky to scrape to 2 star.

The choice of food was horrendous, all the meat was fatty and spiced up. We lived of salads for the week. That is something we cant fault. The choice of salads was brilliant. It was a good job or we would have starved. The desserts were plain but edible. The wine was like vinegar.

The all-inclusive drinks were a joke. Lager, wine, brandy, Ouzo and Raki. Even they were only free until 11pm. Everything else you had to pay for.

It was also very noticeable that us Brits were definately a minority in the hotel. About 98% being German.

There was absolutely no entertainment and most of the music playing around the bar area was German. I was so glad that we never brought our children on this holiday as it would have been horrendous.

We spent every evening in Stalis or Hersonissos (10 -15 mins walk). At least we could go to an English bar and converse with english people. And listen to english music.

All I can say is Thank God the Weather was Brilliant!!!.

This is our second visit here.Having read the reviews prior to our first trip i was a little concerned about the food and accomodation. However,we were given good rooms on both occasions and this time we had a sea view.(At NO extra charge). The reception staff remembered us from out previous trip (Sept)and were very friendly. If you have come here expecting roast beef and yorkshire pud then you will be disappointed!!The food is cooked as you would expect Cretian style and meat on the bone.Dont judge food by its looks you will be eating it not wearing it.There is something for everone`s taste

Yes this hotel is mainly German guests,so what!! talk to them and you will find that they will talk to you.

The beach is shared with Nana Beach hotel and is very nice, safe for children too.A 20min walk either way will take you into either Hersonissos or Stalis. There you will find friendly people and nice beaches.

Unless you are into Wild parties and are a lot younger than us Dont go to Malia. This is a youngsters paradise. Cretes answer to Falaraki!!!

For what we paid this was a very good holiday and shall be going back for our third trip later this year.

We left Bristol Airport early in the morning as usual dark cold and raining. We arrived at lunchtime in sunny hot weather at Crete airport.

When we arrived outside the Arminda Hotel the first impression was a good hotel. The receptionist at arrival stated that we has a room booked but if we wanted to upgrade to a sea view it would be 40 euros for the week, we said we were not willing to pay more money and said we would take the room booked - a garden view room. The garden view rooms are separate to the main building, the garden view rooms are the old building and were described as createan style. The actual style would be cave. The beds are concrete blocks with a mattress on top. The hotel is stated as a 4 star but I would suggest it is a very low 3 star.

This was the first all-inclusive holiday we had taken and were very disappointed with the food and drinks available. The drinks were self service in plastic beakers. The only drinks available were local beer, wine, brandy and Ouzo. Their is no evening entertainment and day time their is a childrens club in German. The hotel is 90% German guests. I would not recommend the Arminda Hotel, but would suggest you look at the Hotel next door to the Arminda - Nana Beach which is a true 4 star Hotel. We only eat at the Arminda for two days as both me and my wife had D+V. We then walked to Stalis evenings and had meals in the restuarants in Stalis. It was relaxing to get out of the Hotel and the German music, and enjoy the entertainment and food out. Unfortunately when you pay for all-inclusive and it was so bad you had to get out it became a very expensive week.

We went for my 40th birthday and I have to say it was the worst holiday and Hotel I have ever been.

My/Our Holiday Review:

The Arminda Hotel has 4 Star Rating, but in our opinion does not come close to this. It has two neighbouring hotels, both also 4 star, Nana Beach and The Grand, and pales completely by comparison.

We found the reception staff unhelpful, unfriendly and mainly staffed by people who spoke no English. All Hotel instructions and information was provided only in German, the Satellite TV in our rooms were all tuned to German channels or were dubbed in German.

This was supposed to be a family hotel, and it had a terrific Kids Club but....they wouldn't allow English children to join in because they said 'they won't understand'!

It is an all inclusive Hotel and the meals were average, providing you enjoy German cuisine! It's advertising implies a short walk to the beach, but doesn't mention that the beach is run for the residents of Nana Beach Hotel, who have free use of all the sunbeds etc etc. It also involves a walk across waste land, unless you do as we did and get access via the Nana Beach entrance.

The general upkeep of the two pools was good though, being cleaned out and all surrounding areas hosed down every morning. I know this because I was able to see it being done every crack of dawn, due to being unable to sleep on the concrete base beds! Our beds were made daily and sheets and towels changed once during our week there, but the toilets and hand held shower area were not kept as clean as we would have liked. The Hotel wasn;t in too bad a location although you had to either walk or get a bus to nearby towns of Stalis or Hersonnisos. The local Bus service we found very good, once we had managed to ascertain it's timetable, which took some time to do because the staff couldn't or wouldn't speak in English.

The Island of Crete is beautiful and we were very lucky with hot unbroken sunshine. The only thing which marred the holiday was sadly this hotel and most of it's staff. We will definitely not be returning.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Where to start?

The Arminda Hotel looks nice from the outside even though it is in the middle of no where. Our rooms we reminisant of caves - dark, dull, dismill, smelly, west & damp. We paid extra for modern rooms.

My 2 year old grand daughter walked into the reception glas door and hurt her head. No memeber of staff acknowledge the accident or asked if she was alright. My husband walked into the glass sliding door in the room. The door had no stickers or symbols on it and it looked like it was open. He cuts his head open, had glass cuts on his cheek and chin and glass in his face and arm. We were promptly given another room and then charged for the new glass door. When we contacted the Med Hotel rep she said we would have to pay or they would call the police. After further calls to her and her manager we still had to pay the cost.

The hotel has a ramp to the reception area but their are no ramps to provide access to the dining room or the pools, either for pushchairs or wheelchairs. The hotel caters for the Germans and all information is in German. There are no fire or emergency instructions in any language, that we could tell. The food was disgusting and consisted of a choice of one maybe fatty, grissly meats in sauces or vegetables. There was no plain salad. We lived the first four days on pasta. In the end we ate out.

The temperature was around 25degrees, maybe more, and the bedding was not changed all week and when we asked when the towels would be changed their response was, you got clean ones when you arrived. Is that not normal, should we have got the left over ones from the previous customers?

Their is NO entertainment. Early evening brings around 30mins of entertainment for the children, in German. There is no entertainment at all for the Adults. The area around the hotel provides two more hotels, with little or no entertainment, a German Kareoke bar across the road and a Taverna. An empty Taverna. Luckily Stallis & Malia are a 5 to 10 minute taxi ride away and only costs 5 euros one way.

It was the worst holiday I have ever had. Don't let that put you off going to Heronissos, Stallis and Malia but just be careful about your accommodation.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Asterias Village represented excellent value for money.Asterias village is accessed down 60 stairs from the main road which runs through Piskopiano and Koutoulofari. Both are very pleasant villages, but the latter is particularly beautiful with many tavernas and shops.

The studios were very clean. The view of Herssonisos and the sea from the studio was lovely however the view was somewhat spoilt by an electricity pylon.

The pool is very large and very very clean. Quite a few of the guests went topless into the pool which might put someone off travelling with kids or teenagers. The music coming from the bar was ecletic. All staff were friendly and accommodating.

We tried out many tavernas and found our best to be Romantiko which is very close to the apartments. We had a mixed grill of fish, jacket potato, chips, veg and salad plus half litre of wine and tea/coffee for only 29 euros for 2!! Their apple pie was also great. The service and food in the tavernas did vary. Mezes is owned by a British/Greek couple and we found the service quite poor.

We walked down the hill everyday 15 mins brisk walking and back up at the end of the day. We took a cab for 6 euros on the last day, as it can get a bit tiring.

Hersonissos is very tacky and touristy but the main road is where you can catch buses to all major towns. We expected an old bus and were surprised to see that the buses are air conditioned. It cost 2 or 3 euros one way to the capital- Heraklion where you can see the Minoan palace of Knossos and the archaelogical museum.

If you want to kill 2 birds with one stone, visit Malia palace and then walk 10 mins to a great sandy beach called Sun beach. You rent loungers for 3 euros each.

For the bargain price we paid, we were very pleased with Asterias Village and would highly recommend to anyone (not those with mobility difficulties).Make sure you eat at Romantiko!!!

My/Our Holiday Review:

This was our 2nd visit to Crete and the best accommodation by far 4 star. The appartments are situated in a quaint little village called 'Piskopiano'over looking the bay of Hersonissos. The walk down to the prom is a bit much in the heat of the day (20-25mins) but quite pleasant at night especially after a large meal!.

The location was excellent with more than enough choices of bars, resteraunts and tavernas.Particually the tavernas in the old town the Cretian people cannot do enough for you.

Two very good places to eat 'Oliva' which is at the entrance to 'Asterias Village' and 'Fabrica' in the old town the owner was a bit eccentric but a fabulous host!.

Beaches are ok but they tend to be shingle and very rocky which can be a bit rough on your feet.

Hersonissos town is very lively at night with the Dutch version of 18-30 which can be a bit in your face but they are all usually well out of it by midnight. Plenty of bars and resteraunts to choose from but as with all places the ones on the front are a bit pricey.

Car hire was very reasonable and this allowed us to explore the island, star beach at Stalis was excellent for the kids with water slides, trampolines and inflatables and its free to get in!.

Agios Nikolos is a nice place to visit, but the beaches are a bit spread out and the one we found was man made.

To sum up 'Asterias Village' it can only be a few years old, the room was very pleasant with all mod cons. The complex itself was well run with a snack bar and late bar by the pool. The people were allways very friendly and warm.

'Excellent!' 10 out of 10

My/Our Holiday Review:

Just back from the Athina and i thought that I would add a few comments to supplement what has already been submitted. My wife and I enjoyed Crete, basically for the surprisingly good weather for that time of year, the company that we had with us and the wonderful countryside and food. However I cannot bring myself to recommend the Athina. The reasons are two-fold:

(1) Geographically it is on Crete's main road and there is little in the way of convenient shops/restaurants nearby. The meagre cooking facilities have already been mentioned so unless you wish to partake at the Athina bar (of the burger/toastie/omelette with chips variety)you will be forced to eat elsewhere-The nearest restaurant is a 20 minute walk just off the beach and I thoroughly recommend it (Greek food the way it should be-no chips involved).

(2)The staff-although the real staff cannot be criticised, especially the cleaner who did a marvellous job, a 'de facto' odd-job man ruined the holiday for us. Do you think it is reasonable for someone to sing in the neighbouring room at the top of his lungs from midnight to 4am? Then, after I requested that he cuts it out and entertain himself at a more reasonable time and location, waits ten minutes before breaking out into 'The Green, Green Grass of Home'. On meeting this person the next day no apology was forthcoming but instead my wife and I were advised that 'at least it was singing and not pop music'. Given the choice I think I would have preferred The Killers to Tom Jones. Be warned-as we were leaving we were told that he was staying for at least another 6 weeks and stayed there quite often!

So there you have it.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Arrived at Athina Classic Apartments on Sat 28th July 2007.

The accommodation was split into 3 buildings, 2 of which were situated together around the pool area and the other on the opposite side of a dirt track and overlooked rural fields. This building was more like a 1star accommodation and not a 3star as the Olympic Brochure stated.

It was obvious that the building had not been maintained for a long time. Lights didn't work, walls needed painting, room was full of insects and they were extremely basic and needed refurbishing. When we arrived we had stained linen, dirty bath towels and wardrobe full of mosquitoes. After complaining on arrival about the state of our room we were assured it would be cleaned within 24hrs. However it took 5 days to be cleaned, towels changed and clean bed linen.

Security in room was extremely poor anyone could gain entry due to the number of glass pains in the wooden patio framed door. The outer security doors could be easily opened through minimum force.

Although you could purchase a safety deposit box, within a week there had been, some broken into and all the contents stolen whilst the guest where sleeping in their room. Reports were made to the police, owner and rep to no avail. Continuous breakings occurred even when patio doors where locked and when reported to the police they regarded the theft as lost property and not stolen as there seemed to be no forced entry.

The guests felt so insecure that they grouped together in each others room to sleep, some rooms consisted of 6 people or more. Guests took turns in patrolling the grounds as the owner, police and rep where not interested, because of all these experiences we decided to cut our holiday short by a week and returned home early paying the costs out of our own pockets.

The last and final straw I'm sure you will agree was while waiting for our taxi to the airport (bearing in mind still another weeks holiday to go) the owner asked what time we were leaving as our room had been rebooked to some backpackers within hours of notifying them we were returning to England.

After visiting Greece on several previous occasions it has changed our views Hersonissos is a beautiful cosmopolitan town the apartments did not fulfill the dream or the expectation of Crete.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Having read the other review on this site after we had booked our holiday we were very concerned about what we would find at the Athina Classic apartments. However, we were pleasantly surprised.

The apartments were basic, but having paid £300 each for the holiday we weren't expecting anything else. The rooms were very clean and we had a lovely cleaner who came in every day. There was a selection of glasses, cutlery etc. There was a fridge, freezer and two rings to cook on.we tended to eat out all the time but I could imagine if you wanted to cook a meal it would be difficult - especially with no kettle.

The owners and staff were all nice and they certainly appreciated it if you made the effort to try some Greek words and phrases.

The rep Vicky was very helpful and pleasant. we were in a party of eight and two of the group were in a studio apartment right next to the pool bar, which we were concerned about. However, they didn't appear to be bothered by noise. The rest of us were in the other block which is set apart from the main apartments and it was very quite here.

The beach was a 15 minute walk through olive groves and while it was dark at night you could still see - we had gone prepared with torches but found we didn't use them. We found the walk quite pleasant and the locals were all friendly. The beach was quiet and you could rent beds and parasols very cheaply. there were a few bars and tavernas at the sea front. The only downside was Anissaras which didn't have a village centre as such. Analipsi which was 15 minutes walk up the coast had more of a Greek village feel. However, local transport was excellent and very cheap.

Old Hersonissos is worth a visit at night and
