Understaffed bar and pool area service was diabolical. Sun beds around pool was a no go area as beds were taken at 6 in the morning. Food was disgustinng if you like pork or veal every day your in heaven. A good 15 min from beach and centre of salou, one good thing only 10 min from potaventura. Nightlife is very poor only restaurants. Take my advise give this a miss. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: Direct Holidays August 2007 Opinion submitted in August 2007 by : Karen,Gerry,Erin (44,41,6) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Just returned from 2 weeks at this hotel, stayed in Salou before at La Pineda but prefered this area better. Hotel is lovely and clean, rooms cleaned and towels changed every day, meals were good, varied every night, breakfast had a good variety but got very busy after 9am.Staff were very polite and helpfull, my daughter enjoyed the mini club and mini disco at night, entertainment at night was very good, abba tribute, oasis tribute, dancers, parrot show, magician.Salou centre is only a 10 min walk as is Portaventura. Two new rides since i last went, Furious Baco, this is a must do, i went on the front seat, it was amazing, iv got the picture to prove it!!!Saw the fireworks at night,u have to b there 10.30 to get a good view.Went on the mini train a few time, lasts about an hour round trip and gives u a look at the other parts of the resort. Would recommend this hotel to everyone and will b going back sometime in the future. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: Direct Holidays - July 2007 Opinion submitted in July 2007 by : Merson - Aberdeen 36, 38, 12, 9 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Opinion: Just returned from an absolutely fab time in Salou at the Salauris Palace. The Hotel is in a great situation for both Portaventura and the Beach about 15 mins walk to each. Plenty shops and bars within easy walking distance. The hotel itself was great, great pool area, always found a sunbed eventually, the usual suspects had theirs booked at 7 in the morning - how sad when you are on holiday but then thats only my opinion. The lifeguard did remove towels on two occassions whilst we were there which was quite amusing. Our room was great the biggest family room we have ever had not your usual 4 beds in a row it was very spacious and kept very clean. Reception area was polished every morning and all staff that I came into contact with were very helpful. Entertainment is provided by the hotel and although it is not our sort of thing they seemed to put a great effort into it and what we saw in passing seemed really good. The restaurant was very good and we always found something to eat which for my very fussy 12 and 9 year olds is a great achievement. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone and probably will return at some point as we loved portaventura. Salou itself could be done with a clean up we found it to be a bit dirty although the beach was lovely and very clean some of the streets were very dirty and overflowing with rubbish but I think that is the same of any holiday resort. Anyone thinking of booking a family holiday in a good hotel look no further than the Salauris Palace I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: Airtours July 2007 Opinion submitted in July 2007 by : Susan Steadman - South Shields (37,39, 6) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: After reading some of the reviews I was really worried about this hotel. We thought it was Fab! Set at the back of Salou,(thank goodness), it is in a quiet location, and is only 10 minute walk up the hill to Porta Ventura, and 10-15 mins to the sea front. We had a family room which was great for three of us. The safe is free, but you have to rent the fridge, for about 3 euros a day. From our room (509) at the front of the Hotel we had a good view of Porta Ventura and the fireworks every night, but it was still a quiet room when the patio door was closed. The main pool is great, with a jacquzi set a one end. Like all pools abroad when you dip your foot in the water it feels cold. The best thing to do is to just jump straight in. Once in, the water feels quite warm. Unfortunatley there are no inflatable allowed, but each Friday morning between 11am and 1pm, the Hotel provides massive inflatable slides etc for everyone to climb on. These were great. There is also a roof top decked area for anyone who wants to get away from the kids,(over 18's only) which has a further Jacquzi in the middle for you to have a cooling dip in. The indoor pool downstairs is great, (take a swimming cap though), as if the sauna, steam room and gym. The restaurant and food was fine if you bear in mind that this Hotel caters for lots of differnt nationalities. Omlettes and pancakes great on a morning, on an evening there was always a joint of meat being carved, unfortunately you had to queue for this, but was not a major problem. All staff were friendly and pleasant. The waiters round the pool on a night were hilarious as they sang along to the various acts that were on. Some were really good others so bad and cheesy you had to laugh. Portaventura brilliant. We went up on a night as open till midnight, when there was hardly any queues for the rides. Get your tickets from the internet before you go. We also loved the Caribe water park, thought it was better than Aquapolis. Its smaller but has more family friendly slides if you have younger children. Had a great time, and would definatley come back to this hotel in a few years time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: Direct Holidays - May 2007 Opinion submitted in June 2007 by : Elaine - Cheshire (44,36,12,9) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Hi, we have just returned from a two week holiday at the H10 Salauris Palace. After a nightmare flight and transfer - too boring to explain, we arrived at the hotel just before midnight. AIRPORT Be warned Reus airport is tiny and god help you if you get stuck there. There are only 8 check in desks and we arrived at the airport 40 minutes before our desk opened as it was being used for another flight so had to wait outside - luckily enough it was a great day. It is very tight for space when you are in there and once through to departures there are 3 gates which are incorporated into the one and only cafe. Small shop inside departures for duty free. WEATHER Hot Hot Hot with a couple of windy days but great for May. LOCATION The hotel is just at the back of Salou centre, but only a 5 mins walk into it and the beach which is nice and the fountains on the promenade are lit up at night. Portaventura is a 10 min walk up a slight hill and it was this reason that we picked this hotel as we had 14 day passes which we bought in the UK online for £39 for adults and £32 for kids. ROOM We had room 151 which was on the corner above the kids playground facing the road. This was a huge room with 4 beds in it and still gave loads of space, also had a big balcony which you could see the Portaventura Fireworks from. The rooms were cleaned everday and towels changed. FOOD The food was pretty basic with poor choice for a 4* hotel but you wouldn't starve. We ended up having big lunches and then just picking at night. For lunch would recommend the Titanic where you get large plates of good food at great prices. Also for snacks, Rosies Return and The George & Dragon. We also ate at the Titanic one night and the Pizza/Pasta place which is opposite Olympus Palace hotel, not a far walk and really nice for a change. ENTERTAINMENT There were plenty activities throughout the day for everyone if you wanted to join in. At night there was a show on around 10pm and this finished at 12pm on the dot. There was also a mini club disco for kids at 8.30pm. We rarely spent an evening in the hotel as there are plenty of bars within walking distance where you get a cheap drink and entertainment. We did spend a lot of time in the Titanic which is virtually across the road and had entertainment on every night plus bingo and quizzes etc. SWIMMING POOL The outside pool was large but freezing. You were not allowed inflatables but on the second Friday, the hotel provided them after our Rep had specifically told us that they would not be doing even though we told her we had heard they do. We made plans to go to Aquapolis that day so the kids missed them. There were plenty of sunbeds but I think in High Season, you would be pushed for space to put one down as not a lot of area around the pool. There are two bars outside, one is a bar and the other a snack bar which opens up for lunch. There is an indoor pool which is heated but you need a cap to go in. Jacuzzi and Saunas and a small gym. You can rent towels from the downstairs pool for e10 per towel and you have to pay e1 each time you swap it for a clean one. At the end of your holiday, you give the towels back and get your e10 back which was great. Saved room in the cases. TRIPS We visited PortaVentura 5 times and had a great time and found if you go early enough there are hardly any queues although I imagine in July/August it could be bad. There were lots of Spanish school kids on trips and they just push past you to get where they want. Its very annoying. The online passes we got before we went were a godsend as we spent £149.00 for the 4 of us for 14 nights. We had a day at Aquapolis in La Pineda which was e22.50 for adults and e16.50 for kids. We caught the little train which was e3 for adults and e1.50 for kids no matter which stop you got off at. It was more expensive than the bus but quicker and less crowded. The lockers are e4.50 each plus a e3 deposit. The sunbeds were e4 I think and the rubber rings e9. We didn't get a rubber ring as they had run out but we didn't miss having one. Spent the full day and watched the Dolphin/SeaLion show. The park opened at 11am to 6pm and our FANTASTIC REP told us it opened at 10am. I tell you we knew more about the resort in 24 hours than she knew all holiday. She couldn't tell us when the buses arrived or which stop to get what. We had a day in Tarragona which was nice but not what we expected. We jumped on the bus which was hectic but nice to get a day out. They have a market on a Tuesday and Thursday. We saw some of the roman ruins but again you have to pay to see them. We had a day in Cap Salou at the Cala Font beach which is a lovely little beach and then a huge Sunday dinner in The Paddock which was lovely. We had previously visited Cap Salou in June 2002 and stayed in the H10 Mediteranean Village which was lovely if you are looking for a quiet vacation. I know I've been wittering on but all in all we had a good time and would recommend the hotel especially if you want to visit Portaventura park without paying their hotel prices as the Costa Caribe hotel is across the road. You are not far away from everything. We hope this review helps and you enjoy your stay in SALOU. xx --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (MyTravel Direct) My Travel - May 2007 Opinion submitted in June 2007 by : Newcastle (40, 40, 16, 16, 13, 13) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: went to salou for 1 week and enjoyed every minute.hotel was ok but nothing really special. after reading other reviews i was concerned that the food wouldn't be very good but i was pleasantly suprised by it.there might not have been a huge variety of food but i found something to eat each night-being a fussy eater this was quite an achievement! i wasn't too pleased with the breakfasts but i still managed to eat something.if you want to eat out i would recommend the titanic bar-huge, tasty meals for reasonable prices. wasn't very impressed by the night time entertainment at the hotel-after the 10pm show there was no music or disco for older kids and teenagers.if you are lively and looking for a good night out robin hood is the place to be.there is karoke every night and the hosts make sure you stay entertained.a round of drinks was quite cheap too.however if you are quiet and don't like to have fun with people you don't know or make a fool of yourself i wouldn't recommend it.the pool is FREEZING cold and i wasn't very impressed with it at all, particularly as inflatables are banned.on a friday morning the hotel provides inflatables but as there was no notice of this we had already made plans and missed it.portaventura is fantastic but a week pass is a necessity if you want to go as it is impossible to get around the whole place in a day-especially when you consider the queues.the night time fireworks were lovely and a brilliant end to the holiday as they are on a saturday and sunday and we left on the sunday.the beach is a short walk from the hotel and is really nice and clean. the only downside to the holiday was that there wasn't very many shops, the roomcard kept breaking and the bar staff were extremely slow-there was only one girl on one night.you are best off askin the waiters for drinks-they arrive much quicker. overall it was a very good holiday and i would like to go back in the summer (peak time) when there is more entertainment on. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: Globespan - May 2007 Opinion submitted in May 2007 by : P McKenzie _ Aberdeen (47, 48, 50, 51) Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: Just had a weeks stay at the Salaurus Palace. Very pleased on first impression. Clean reception. Clean Room. Large pool with plenty of new tables, chairs, lilo's etc. Service at bar very poor. Meals were poor with few choices. There was a carvery bar in the main restaurant with 1 meat selection and 1 guy carving. When the joint was finished he disappeared for about 15 mins while people were waiting to be served. this happened every night. Also if your not on a family holiday, give this hotel a miss as there were lots of small children running about. Salou has a nice clean beach and a wide promenade. The shops are limited to cheap tat etc, and the bars have a limited choice. One or two provide some entertainment but mainly sports bars. Its worth the trip to neighbouring Cambrils which is a quiet more traditional village or to Tarragona with its roman ruins. We used the public buses to get to each site, about 20 mins ride. Overall I wouldnt go to this hotel or Salou again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
Opinion submitted in April 2007 by : sharon & chas (61&64) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Opinion: Just returned from spring hols in salauris palace--very impressed with hotel but like most of these places food not all that inspiring although pretty good considering they cater for many nationalities. enjoyed trip to barcelona but it was a long day for us oldies. Salou is a lovely spot and well provided with watering holes. What we found spoiled the place was being continually harassed by touts trying to give away "free holidays".They were not best pleased when told to go forth & multiply. A youngish couple also at the salauris were caught by these guys and spent most of the remainder of their hols worried sick about getting out of some contract they signed for £1000s. If they were removed we certainly would return to salou and definately the salauris. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: my travel - 2007 Opinion submitted in August 2007 by : kevin chapman -scotland (39,38,12,8) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: This was by far the best hotel we have stayed at. Situated next to the Portaventura theme Park which is amazing, plenty of rides for all the family. The hotel itself was very clean ( maid service every day). The food was very good although choice could have beena bit better and breakfast was a bit hectic if you left it late. We were half board and had lunch most days from the pool side restaurant which was very good and reasonably priced ( a hotdog with chips and salad was only 2.90 euros ) A pint of lager was only 2.30euros and cocktails were good value. Entertainment was pretty good with some excellent shows and the usual kids disco every night. It was a good 10 minute walk to the beach. Just accross the street was an excellent wee scottish/english run pub called the Hole in the Wall. Great for a quiet drink or for catching the football. There was also The Titanic which had entertainment every night. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: Sept 06 Opinion submitted in November 2006 by : 46, 18, 13 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: I took my two children of 18 and 13 with me on this holiday. The hotel is tucked away at the back of the resort. We had a room overlooking the back so you could see the fireworks at Porta Ventura each evening if you wanted. I had read previous reviews about the roads being used as a race track, but we never saw anything like that and of a night it was nice and quiet. Rooms were clean, of a reasonable size and had a safe. We had no probs with theft while we were there. Restaurant food was pretty good. My two never complained and my son was always first in the queue for omlettes. Yes you have to pay for drinks at evening meal but a large bottle of water with your meal is minimal. Swimming pool is of a decent size although I never really use them and prefer the beach. We did however use the basement pool a lot. This is obviously indoor and you need to wear a hat...made sure we did lots of lengths of the small pool before tea! The sauna and steam room were also used a fair amount - gyms really small and couldnt get near the equipment most of the time. There is a computer room where u can chcek yer mails for a coupld of euros if you want to Entertainment was ok - on the terrace, sangria was gorgeous. Finished strictly at 12 each evening which allowed those ppl above the pool to get some sleep! 10 min walk to portaventura...cant remember the price of tickets but equated to about the same price as alton towers. We were going to go to caribe water park but were advised aqapolis was better. Took the bus to aquapolis (tickets about 23 i think and bus 2 euros)- now that was fabulous and we had a brilliant day there and on the beach in la pineda Can aslo pick up a free bus for go karting, we ended up taxiing it for about 6 euros and my son loved whizzing round on the route the beach is really nice and pedalos and banana boats were really cheap, much cheaper than in benidorm two years ago. Just watch the kids when they try and swim out to the floats, its further than it looks. Lilos on sale for between 3.5 and 6. Beach is a good 10 min walk Only disappointment was the night life. Most of the pubs had tv on mainly sport. Couldnt find a bar with decent live music so we ended up stayin gin the hotel most of the time. Would go again to the salauris palace - if it were elsewhere - have to say i well preferred benidorm to salou was good for a weeks holiday but think id have been bored if it had been a fortnight --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (Airtours Direct) Airtours - Sept 2006 Opinion submitted in October 2006 by : Alice Smith (19,20) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Me and my partner stayed at the salauris palace from the 11th sept to the 25th sept and we had a great holiday with no real problems with anything. We thought that the room was very clean and was cleaned everyday without fail. We had a great view from our balcony as we could see the theme park and all the rides in motion. Also on a sat night we could see the fire work display. The hotel itself was alo very clean and the staff were very friendly. I have got to admit that the food did go a bit down hill in the second week. As for the resort of salou it was brillaint everything i wanted in a holiday there was always something to do. I would highly reccomend going to the theme park which takes under 10mins to walk. I would also recoomend buying your theme park tickets before you go to the park from a travel agents. As we got a 7 day pass for £50 and if you buy them on the door you pay around 43 euros for a day. I would reccomend both the resort and the accomadation. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (Airtours Direct) Airtours - Sept 2006 Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : Mark Campbell-Teeside(54,52,33,30,10,6,5,5, Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: As a party of 8 we have been to salou and stayed with other tour operaters before and always had a very good time. This time we stopped at the 4*SALOURIS PALACE with airtours. If you want good food PLEASE do not go here THE FOOD IS AWFUL,RAW AND COLD,most days.We complained to the airtours rep and was told to change the t time option to a lunch time,if we wanted lunch we would have gone full board! The staff in the hotel are solom most days like they are at a funeral parlour.Theft from rooms happened a lot over the two week stay, the hotel Manager seem not very bothered. THE HOTEL ENTERTAINERS WORK VERY HARD AND DO LOTS OF THINGS FOR THE KIDS AND ADULTS ALIKE DAY AND NIGHT,VERY FRIENDLY ALSO A CREDIT TO THEMSELVES. On a plus side the hotel is spotless and cleaned daily by the maids and ground staff. There is no airtours activities here only excursions that cost the earth, the local bus goes to most places on the costa for only a few euros each. Salou is a nice place for everyone young and old but beware of the street touts they get everywhere.Stay away from the TITANIC,CALAFORNIA/MIAMI GRILL they sell pint for a £ but it is rubbish taste like supermarket budget brands.GO TO SALOU AND HAVE A NICE HOLIDAY BUT STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL YOU WILL BE DISAPOINTED WHEN YOU GET THERE IF YOU DONT. Not the best selection of pubs and clubs but plenty of places to eat, and even a McDonalds which serves beer! The beach is nothing fantastic yet the weather is great most of the time. An overall excellent stay in Salou. THE HOTEL The reception staff were more than friendly and spoke fine english, they were helpful and polite at all times. The reps didnt seem too helpful really. The entertainment was nothing of our interest, there was a daily kids disco at 7ish and maybe 3 singers for the rest of the night, or a magic show, etc.. The rooms were standard, nothing special, we hired a fridge and safe which were very useful, as was the hairdryer and air conditioning, included in the deal. The food was its weak point, non of the kids were able to find something they enjoyed for tea and most of it was cold by the time it go to the table...breakfast was the better of the two meals. Drinks at dinner were on the expensive side. The pool area was constantly crowded with people racing for sunbeds, it was impossible to find a group of them without towel reservation! The pool itself was always freezing, taking ages for you to get used to it. as with the indoor pool. There was a rooftop jacuzzi which was usually full with youths and unavailable however once in it was great. PORTAVENTURA This was the highlight of the holiday. There are dozens of excellent shows every day, including Fiestaventura, as show of lazers, water and fire on near midnight every night in summer. There is the tallest freefall ride in europe, and the rollercoaster with the most(over 8)interverted loops, in europe too. There are plenty of water rides to keep you cool, plenty of snack places and also some fine restraunts to suit the land you enter, such as china. I would reccomend you buy your tickets before you go as you can get a 5 day pass for the price you pay on the door! great value.

The Hotel itself is very good, it is very clean, the rooms are a good size but the restaurant staff are terrible. We were a party of 6 and usually sat at a large table laid for 7 or 8 as there was none set for 6 in the quieter conservatory side of the restaurant. Every meal time the staff came and asked how many were sitting at the table and then proceeded to swipe the extra knives and forks away in a very unfriendly manor. No drinks are provided at the evening meal (we were not aware of this) and my two children took a small bottle of water in each and were told in no uncertain terms that they were not allowed their own drinks and we were supposed to buy drinks from the restaurant bar. The food seemed okay on the first couple of days but gradually went down hill. It was never `hot` and we frequently used the microwave although my kids did get evil looks from the staff for doing so. Menu very repetitive - lots of ham, veal and fish. Thought things were looking up when the chef was cooking t-bone steak one night, but when we tried to cut it we couldn`t even get the knife in to it - it was like rubber! The best food was the spanish lady cooking fresh pancakes and omelettes at breakfast every day. The pool area is nice outside with a waterfall and jacuzzi type area. Managing to get a sunbed near it is near impossible. There are notices on the doors saying that you are not allowed to reserve sunbeds but everyone does. A couple of times someone came from reception and removed towels with nobody with them but it only seemed a token gesture as it doesn`t happen enough. Unruly and unsupervised kids spoilt the pool on many occasions as my Mum (who cannot swim and has arthritis) enjoyed sitting in the jacuzzi area but was thwarted everytime she went in by the same extremely rude Irish kids who delighted in making a thorough nuisance of themselves by jumping in and splashing her as much as possible on purpose. Maybe it is okay when not the kids summer school holidays. We were worried when read another review about the hotel safe not being safe but we used it for the 14 days and there were no problems and didn`t hear of anyone else getting anything taken. The Port Aventura Theme Park is a must if going to Salou. Buy tickets in the UK though as very expensive on the gate. We got a 14 day pass for about £48 from Keith Prowse Tickets. We went to the Park nearly every day as the kids loved it. Dragon Khan is a must - it has 8 loops - fantastic!! The water rides are fabulous and cool you down as it was 37 degrees when we were there. A word of warning if you are walking to the park from the hotel (this takes about 15 mins on an uphill climb). Beware of the road sign hidden in the trees - my husband walked in to it and cut his eyelid open and just about knocked himself out. After a taxi ride to and from the hospital and stitches without aneasthetic he is okay! but he was the second person that week to do it! So it must be a common problem. The Reception Staff are the best people in the hotel - they all speak english and are very helpful if you have a problem. Would go back to Salou - but not in a rush, prefer Benidorm although Port Aventura is slightly better than Terra Mitica. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (Direct Holidays) Direct Holidays - July 2006 Opinion submitted in August 2006 by : winter - Morecambe (37, 35, 6) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Just returned from another fantastic holiday in Salou. We had previously stayed at the Caribe Resort Hotel and this time chose Saluris Palace, having been past the hotel on our previous stay. The hotel is great, very clean, changing your towels and cleaning your room daily. The staff in the restaurant and bar are friendly. The prices for food and drinks are also reasonable as we found drinks could often be more expensive in Salou. Food was good, although towards the end of our two week stay we were getting a little bored with the choice at dinner. However, the breakfast were excellent and we couldn't fault them in any way. Our greatest problem was in trying to get a sun lounger, it was towels at dawn if you wanted a sun lounger!! Most of the loungers had gone by 8.30 so it was an early start if you wanted to relax by the pool. The staff did try and remove those towels which had been there a while with no one on but, i think this caused more problems than what it was worth. Having a small child the kids pool was great but there was no shallow end of the larger pool. He LOVED the mini disco and the children's club was fantastic as they made different things and played games in the shade outside. It gave us a nice break for a few hours. We had a fantastic holiday and I would go back to this hotel despite the sun lounger situation. I would encourage anyone to use the local buses and get out about as there is much more than Salou. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (Airtours Direct) Airtours - July 2006 Opinion submitted in August 2006 by : Jean - Ipswich (47, 47, 21, 19, 15) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: We found the hotel and food to be very good value for money. My 15 year old is a very fussy eater but he always fould something to suit his diet. The restaurant was busy at times but we had no problems with dirty cutlety etc. We went on a coach trip to Barcelona with the local bus company which was very well organised and a lot cheaper than going with the travel company. My husband and son also went on the train to Barcelona a second time and took in an open top bus tour which they said was excellent. Went to PortAventura for two days which was excellent but very hard work in the heat. If you remember to get your hand stamped on the way out it allows you access to the park again in the evening. Much cooler in the evening and everything is still open. Firework display at 11.45pm very good and worth staying for. We used the local buses throughout our 2 week stay to get to other local venues, such as the waterpark at La Pineda (which is not the best waterpark we have been to) but makes a nice day out nevertheless. We also went to Reus, Tarragona and Cambrils by bus or train and found the transport to be very efficent and cheap. Salou is a concrete city but we knew that at the time of booking, but it is very cheap and clean. All in all we hade a great time and would recommend the Salauris Palace as it is on the edge of Salou but convenient for everything. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (MyTravel Direct) My Travel, June 2006 Opinion submitted in July 2006 by : Bridgetta, Ireeland. 43,11,8,5, Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Just returned from a week here and cant believe it is the same place as in latest review. It is a fabulous hotel, clean, comfortable, lots to do. the evening entertainment wasn't great, but that was no big deal. The mini disco for kids from 9- 9.30 was great. I honestly dont know how anyone could fault the resteraunt. We found staff to be polite and helpful, we certainly never had to clear our own table or clean cutlery, in fact everything was spotless. The range of food was extraordinary, and fresh trays of hot food were constantly appearing.Certainly, there wasn't alot of 'english'food, but isn't it nice to try something different? Some of the meat was pinkish, but there would have been maybe 5 or 6 other options, including beautiful fish and salads. My daughter had pancakes every morning from the hot counter and we certainly never saw anything being thrown. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (MyTravel Direct) My Travel June 2006 Opinion submitted in June 2006 by : Roger, Wirral (63, 61,) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: My wife and I have just returned after 2 weeks at the Salauris Palace, the Hotel was good with a very smart reception area and our room was both spacious and clean with a very nice bathroom, the reception staff were very friendly and exceptionally good at sorting out problems, the Hotel was in an area that was approx. 1 mile from the beach, and in front of the Hotel was a very large new roundabout that seemed to be used as a race track, with cars and motorbikes racing around it with tyres screeching all hours of the night, the area around the Hotel was just a concrete jungle with a large building site opposite with 2 tower cranes in view, the restaurant was very crowded with tables far too close to each other for comfort and the food was totally disgusting, the Hotel was obviously catering for so many nationalities that the British were not catered for at all, with a few notable exceptions, the restaurant staff were both rude and ignorant, probably due to understaffing we had to clear our own dirty dishes from our table or end up with a table laden with dishes, the cutlery and crockery was never properly cleaned and everyone had to clean their own knife, fork and spoon when arriving at the restaurant, the meat was presented in a large tin that was covered in blood, the meat was so badly undercooked, at breakfast the omelettes were cooked at the serving table by a member of staff whom was actually throwing each omelette at the diners plate often missing and ending up on the counter, the pool area was quite nice but far too small for the size of the Hotel, and if anyone tried to get a sunbed after breakfast, forget it, they all had towels on them, one morning during breakfast staff went around taking all towels off sunbeds and delivering them to reception for the owners to reclaim later, but it was just a gesture, as the next day all sunbeds were again covered by towels, the seafront was very nice with a long, wide pedestrian walkway for those who wanted to stroll, but be warned, don't buy a drink or meal on the seafront or you will need a mortgage to pay for it, we went on a Hotel trip to Barcelona which was very good but not enough time was allowed at the Olympic Stadium or on the mount overlooking the City and Port, which had a wonderfull view and a lovely fountain and waterfall nearby but only approx. 15 minutes to take photos. etc. the same could be said of the stop at Goudi's Cathedral, we just had time to jump off the coach and virtually run around the outside of the building getting photos, then jumping back on the coach, yet we were given 2 hours of free time for lunch, just long enough to go halfway down La Ramblas and back and jump back on the coach, a pedestrian walk not to be missed, the highlight of the day was a visit to the Nou Camp Football Stadium where Barcelona play their games, but be warned, their are hundreds of stairs to climb, part of the way up is assisted by a lift, but you come down a different way and it is all steps except for a short escalator down to the club shop, that trip made our Holiday, but we will not be returning to the Salauris Palace again, nor to H10 Hotels if this is the standard. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - In every other respect this is a nice hotel, good facilities, adequately sized rooms which were well serviced daily and good external facilities. The restaurant however would in my view be suitable only for persons who, for medical reasons were being fed intraveinously. The food was, at best lukewarm and very little variety especially at breakfast. Dined out for the last 4 days and would like to include a mention for the staff at the Titanic - brilliant food at the right prices. Nice beer and good friendly service The resort itself is much bigger than I expected with fantastic beaches and a huge choice of shops and bars although there seemed to be a shortage of really decent restaurants. We would certainly return to Salou but using a different hotel. As for Siesta the staff worked hard to make the journey pleasurable, the only gripe I found was a "comfort" stop in Northern France where 3 bus loads (190 passengers) were given a ten minute break at toilets consisting of 4 cubicles. I think this was a drivers' in-joke --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (Airtours Direct) Airtours - 2006 Opinion submitted in October 2006 by : Clyne,47-Katie,42-Rob,41-Mags,39-Nat,15,Mel,6 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Going by some of the reviews i would be foolish to go anywhere near this place, but having holidayed in another hotel one year and reading the reviews of it,i take the bad ones with a pinch of salt. I must say that overall the holiday was excellent. The hotel was clean with the maids doing a brilliant job, the food was varied and of high quality and we did enjoy the themed Mexican evening when each lady was presented with a red carnation (a nice touch) on entry to the restaurant and a singing Mexican walked around the reataurant whilst we were eating. It is beneficial to dine in the quiter part of the reataurant (on the left at entry)where quiet music is played and it seems much more relaxed. The rest of the entertainment at the hotel was very good especially the 'Bee Gee' impersonators who sang brilliantly. All in all the hotel was of a very high standard, the reception staff were mostly very helpful, the rooms very tastefully decorated and of a reasonable size. In the evening it is nice to have a 15 min stroll into the centre of Salou where you can either have a quiet wander on the promenade where the fountains are displayed at 10 p.m. each evening or if you prefer you can explore the abundance of shops for shopping.Plenty of cafes where you can have a jug of sangria or a coffee. In the centre of Salou we easily caught a bus to nearby Tarragona which is steeped in history and if you wander up the ramblas towards the sea and turn left there is a tourist train which for 5 euros each will take you on a 35 minute trip around the historical places of interest whilst listening through earphones you can hear all the detailed information. Very enjoyable. When we returned from the trip it had turned a little chilly so a little way up the ramblas on the right we found a small Chinese reataurant where we had a set meal for 6.95 euros each. Fabulous value. We will definately be returning to this area, we really had an excellent holiday. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (Airtours Direct) Airtours AUG 05 Opinion submitted in Jan 2006 by : S WALES (40, 34,8 ) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Found hotel very clean ,room cleaned every day, pool clean and big, problem trying to get sunbeds had to get up 6 30 every morning to get one, food wasnt to our likeing, went in restaurant twice nothing at all for kids in restaurant went to the brown cow for meals a lot, very cheap all english food avaliable titanic bar very good also,a must see at titanic on a sunday is the show tubby brown one of the best nights of our holiday, reps trips where all a waist of money, port aventura fire work display is a must see ,beach is lovely a fifteen minute walk from hotel plenty of shops on the way to look in would go back to hotel if food was to improve --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (Airtours Direct) Airtours - August 2005 Opinion submitted in Sept 2005 by : Natalie & Robert - Wales (20, 24) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: We holidayed here in August and found it an ideal place as a couple on our first holiday together. The hotel was excellent, the maid cleaned our room and changed the towels daily. The bedding was changed twice during our week long stay. The pool area was amazing and very clean however, all the sunbeds were occupied by around midday (mostly by towels yet no people!!)We found the solarium and jacuzzi on the roof a much more relaxing and less crowded area, (there's only around 20 loungers up there.) Theres also a heated indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi however, swimming caps must be worn when using them. At meal times, there was never a queue and there were always plenty of tables. The bar area and the restaurant were both air-conditioned, which was a great help as it was soooo hot while we were there!! The theme park Port Aventura is a must and its only a 15min walk from the hotel. Rides to look out for are Dragon Khan and Hurrikan Condor. We went around 10am but the park didn't start to fill up until after lunch time. The water park Aquopolis is another must. It's bigger and better than the Caribe water park at Port Aventura and theres also a dolphin and sealion show. We hopped on the public bus which stops on the beach front around every 20mins and it took around 15mins to reach the park. The beach and promenade is around a 10min walk away from the hotel. The beach is fantastic, white sand and no rocks. Theres also plenty of kiosks on the beach selling drinks and ice creams. Some of the bars on the sea front can be loud and lively however, they can easily be avoided. If your looking for a lively night out, you should visit the 007 bar. The music is recent and the drinks are reasonably priced. The Bus Stop bar next door is also worth a try. Overall, our holiday was fantastic and we didn't want to come home! As I was trawling around decided that Costa Dorada was the best and chose Salauris Palace for it appeared to offer best value for money. For 9 nights HB at this rather efficient 4 star hotel, it costs us under £950 for a family of 4!!! Throw in £270 Ryanair flights and 7 day Port Aventura tickets for £168 via Keith Prowse - that's our summer holidays sorted. Firstly, the hotel. The hotel is well presented, clean and tidy. Family rooms are very good size (friends of ours had stayed in Hotel Port Aventura and felt the rooms they had this time was huge in comparison). I would suggest you request rooms those facing the Port Aventura Park (away from poolside) as nightly entertainment at the hotel goes on until midnight. The added bonus is that you are able to see Dragon Khan, Hurakan Condor and the nightly fireworks at 11.30 p.m. There is a maid service daily and towels are changed daily. However, I wouldn't bother with the min-fridge which is really a cooler which costs 3 Euros a day to use. Only English TV channels you get are Sky news, BBC World and CNN. Only slight gripe we had was that one of the 2 lifts that served our half section of rooms was out of order a third of the time we were there. The pool is manned by a lifeguard during its opening until 8.30 p.m. There is a strict policy of not allowing any sort of liloes other than floatation devices for those non swimmers. At least they are sensible in allowing some beach balls. You can always get a sunbed any time of the day but late afternoon generally the whole pool area is covered in sun. There is also a baby pool separate from the main pool. On the basement, there is also an indoor pool (really only plunge pool and you would require a cap), room temperature Jacuzzi, nice steam room and sauna. There is also gym and weight equipment which are not properly maintained and a table tennis table. All these facilities are FOC. There is also childrens' club and daily activities but we didn't use them. There is large outdoor and indoor bar area (air conditioned) with pool tables, another table tennis table. There is also sandy playground for kids. The restaurant is large and there is always seats and tables available. Queues are generally short while we were there. There is large section which is air conditioned (which is great especially in the Spanish summer). The food was average-good. With plenty of choice. Generally service is efficient. The hotel claims that it is the nearest hotel other than the Park hotels is true. Although it is more like 3 times the 300m the hotel claims to be from Port Aventura. It's a leisurely 20 minute walk slightly uphill to the entrance gates of the Park. For the biggest and most popular rides you need to be at least 140cm in height. My recommedations are Dragon Khan, Hurakan Condor (mush easier than it looks), Stampida, Temple de feugo. All the water rides will get you wet, but it's refreshing in the summer heat. The Costa Caribe Aquapark is good and none of the rides I would consider "scary". Travelling to Barcelona. You have a choice of bus or train which is rather efficient. Alternatively, you can book an escorted air conditioned bus tour like we did via the hotel. The beach and the promenade with its shops and restaurants are only half a kilometre away. The beaches are generally clean and has a very gentle slope. You're still only waist high in water 50m from shore. It's wonderful soft sand with no rocks. All in all, Costa Dorada is a great resort for family with kids. I would strong recommend the Salauris Palace Hotel. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: holidays direct- june 2005 Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : Gemma Howell-Wales (33,33,32,26,8,5,4) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Well what can i say this hotel is lovely and the maid service is good!! We had 2 gameboys that went missing! Try to get a lounger after 9.00am you have no chance people were putting towels on the bed in the morning then returning after a day at the beach! The food was lovely got a bit tiring sometimes with the same food all the time. Salou itself has no where really for children to go there is not one single bar that caters specific for children of all the other places in Spain that we have been to this is the only one that does not seem to be that child friendly.Which seems a bit daft really because you seem to see thousands of families there but all the people that we were speaking to all had exactly the same to say as us. The hotel evening entertainment is awful its great if your spanish evening the childrens entertainment is awful. There is absolutely nothing geared in way of entertainment for english we were there for 2 weeks and we had three entertainments nights that we could understand and one of them were with parrots!!!!! We would go back to Salou just definately not to this hotel. The staff there are not that helpful one of the bar men named Gorge was lovely but the others were rude and obnoxious. The Vines english bar serve a brill breakfast and are friendly. Port Aventura is great the best advice i can give you is to go about 4 in the afternoon the weather is cooling down a bit and you dont have to queue for a long time we went on 9 July and we only had to queue 20 minutes for the Dragon Khan! I booked up online with flyglobespan and chose Salauris Palace as it was said to be closest to the theme park, this it was, and we had a view of the two largest rides Dragon Khan and the new addition (which opened 4 days before we arrived) Hurakan Condor, from our large balcony. ACCOMODATION The hotel was beatuiful and our room was spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. The maid cleaned our room, replaced our towels and changed the bed linen daily. There was no need to worry about being woken up early by her, we just hung the "do not disturb" sign outside the door and removed it when we left the room for the day. The pool was lovely and large (although very cold)and the sunbeds were comfortable. We only spent part of a day at the pool as most of our time was spent at the theme park. The hotel food was of a reasonably high standard, we are both fussy eaters but always found something to eat in the restaurant. There is a jacuzzi and some sunbeds on the roof of the hotel which is lovely and usually quieter than the pool. There is also a gym and indoor pool but you're not allowed to swim in it unless you either have or purchase a swimming cap. PORT AVENTURA Port Aventura was fantastic, we loved it. It wasn't too busy when we were there so there weren't too many large queues, even for the most popular rides. One thing about the queues though are that spanish teenagers in large groups tend to jump them to join their friends which can get really irritating. The rides we highly recommend are: Dragon Khan, Hurakan Condor, Templo del Fuego and Sea Odyssey. There are many shows during the day but we didn't see these so can't comment. My birthday fell on a saturday which was "Noches Mediterraneas" night, a midnight firework and laser display, very enjoyable. It was also fun going on the rides in the dark! We found the water park Costa Caribe to be a bit of a disappointment and didn't spend too long in it to be honest. EATING OUT & NIGHTLIFE Although half board we enjoy eating out in nice restaurants and there were very few of these in Salou. If we wanted to eat elsewhere our only choices were really pubs. We did find a nice Dutch restaurant along the beach front but it was expensive and I can't remember what its called. A bar quite close to the hotel was the Titanic Tavern, the drink was quite cheap there but the entertainment was not very good at all. What was good there though was the bingo!! We won 170 euros on our last night! Overall I would highly recommend this hotel and Port Aventura but did not like the resort of Salou and probably won't be returning. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (Airtours Direct) Airtours-Sep 2004 Opinion submitted in Oct 2004 by : Chris Woods-(37,32,1) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: The hotel is a very nice hotel. It is in a great location for the theme park and Salou for nightlife. The rooms are very clean and spacious and cleaned daily. The restaurant was excellent with plenty of choice every day.The entertainment was aimed at Spanish guests but if you go out at night that is irrelevant! The pool area can be very crowded, as can the bar area when the weather is poor. Rooms overlooking the pool will be noisy in the evening due to the ongoing hotel entertainment, those facing Port Adventura will be able to watch the nightly firework display at midnight. The resort itself is lively until well past midnight with crowds on the street. During the day it is possible to walk to Cambrills (and further if you wish) along the seafront promenade. The best bars we found in Salou were Zeezicht, on the seafront serving great lunches and Bar Europ near the main roundabout serving Estrella at 1.70 Euro a pint (evening entertainment provided by Kevin the owners dog). The resort as a whole caters for families with children. We booked on the day trip by coach to Barcelona which is good value the only downside being the constant talking by the tour guide, overwhelming you with facts and figures. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (Airtours Direct) Airtours-august 2004 Opinion submitted in Aug 2004 by : marlene ledgister - Worcestershire(48,42,17,16) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: After visiting this resort last year I decided to return this year. The reason for my return was that I was impressed with the accomodation, the hospitality of the staff and the quality of the restaurant. The resort itself with the clean beach and lots of bars, clubs and restaurants was pleasing- there is a mixture to suit all ages. However,I have found that this year the accomodation has not been as pleasing as it was last year. The rooms are clean and the maids very thorough, so I have no complaints there. The restaurant food is of the same quality and variety as it was before, so again no complaints. My main gripe is with the staff that are supposedly ensuring that you have a pleasant stay. My first is with the reception staff. A couple of them friendly, try to understand you and help. But on many occasions I felt rather intimidated by their manner. The lack of smile sultry look with no regard for customer care. Then there was the airtours rep. Too tired to talk some mornings, let alone ask if I am enjoying my stay. The bar staff were friendly though- good job as they were used to seeing our faces! Why? We were always the only ones left in the bar at 12.45pm when they would switch off the lights and leave you sitting in the dark! The entertainment at the hotel is dire. Terribly awful acts perform acrobatics and eat fire! Some though attempt to sing. This starts at 10pm and finishes around 11pm after which they play YMCA etc for about 15 minutes. You then have to head for Salou. Oh no! - engilsh karaoke bars. Stay away from the 'Titanic Bar'.The what bar? - nuff said. 'Flashback' nightclub provides a good mix of music for the energetic. Danny Boys - a friendly irish pub with live acts is very welcoming. The teenagers enjoyed 007, Bus Stop and Kiss R n B clubs till the early hours. However, you dont always want to venture out but there is nothing at the hotel for active adults to do. The massive area in the bare sits empty. I'm not sure whats down that end but I dont think even the starship enterprise has ventured down there. It would be good if there was some late entertainment in the way of music for those of us who dont like circus acts. If an health and safety audit was to be carried out in the gymnasium area in the basement, the hotel would fail. The treadmill jerks as you run along, weight equipment is faulty, and the steamroom shuts itself off when it feels like. The worst thing is that children as young as six are allowed onto the weight machines, exercise bikes and treadmill, and also in the jaccuzzi with adults. I suspect that if I was to come here again in a couple of years time standards will have fallen as there seems be a lack of customer focus beyond making things look good on the surface. I wont be returning here again in a hurry. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (Airtours Direct) Airtours July 2004 Opinion submitted in Oct 2004 by : Alex Panteli - London (21,20) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Well we thought the hotel was absolutely fantastic. It is a newly built hotel, which is very spacious and clean. There is a huge bar and restaurant area. Although the food for the evening meal was poor as there was little english food to choose from and sometimes the hot food was too cold. However, there is a pizza restaurant by the pool which was nice. The dress code for the restaurant was quite strict, particulary for males. The swimming pool was large and clean. There was also a small pool for children. There was plenty of activities during the day for adults and children around the pool area. The internet room was good as it had 6 computers, so you can keep in contact with family and friends via email. The games room was also a good place to spend some time. The rooms were cleaned every day and were spacious. The air conditioning was brilliant. We never felt too hot in the room. Salou is a really good place to go if you are a family or want a holiday where there is plenty to do. Costa Caribe and aquapolis were really good water parks. We also liked the '007' bar and the 'bus stop' bar. We would not recommend the reps show for young couples as it was quite boring. Families with young children may enjoy it though. The hotel is relatively new, with decor and facilities in excellent order. A good size pool and surrounding area which at times was busy, but I didnt notice everyone squashing in to one area - as quoted previously - you will find first thing in the morning after breakfast people head for the one area where the sun has reached but by mid morning, ( very shortly after we reached poolside) the sun will cover the whole pool and surrounding area. There was an excellent pool life guard who was on duty from 10 till 6 without any breaks, and did a job limiting the number of lilos and beach balls in the pool at one time - for strictly speaking as he pointed to on an information board they were supposed to be banned altogether (english very limited but his whistle and hand signals got him results). Our 8 year old daughter spent most of her holiday in the pool ! The restaurant and food we personally found to be of a good standard. At busy times there could be a wait to pay for your drinks at the end of your meal and also for your table to be cleared of a finished course - but certainly this was no worse than any of the many Spanish hotels we have stayed in. (On a personal note I feel a lot of peolple go to Spain and dont fully appreciate the far more laid back attitude to speed of service etc, for having been to Spain on 1 or 2 package holidays to say the least - this I have found to be the norm all over. To me whats the rush, Im on the holiday.) The excellent selection of cakes at breakfast was particularly enjoyed by our daughter. In the restauarant to the left hand side is a large conservatory style extension which we enjoyed and found to be a little quieter and more relaxed than the main dining area. The highlight of our holiday was the nearby Universal Mediterranea theme park. (About a 15 minute up hill walk away). Port Aventura the main theme park was superb with good rides and attractions, and the 2 shows we saw were excellent - though some peoples enjoyment might be detracted by the fact they were all in Spanish. Costa Caribe water park was a big hit with the family. It was all enjoyed so much that we have already booked up for next year to stay in hotel el paso - just outside port aventura with unlimited access. Didn't see much of Salou itself - but what we did see including the beach looked very good. Only did one excursion - a boat trip ( Finding Nemo), in my opinion a lot of money for a 1/2 day in which you didnt see any fish - let alone Nemo. All in all an excellent family holiday, staying in a good hotel and for what we paid represented excellent value for money. Only really bad point was a 2 hour delay at Reus airport which makes Gatwick seem like Buckingham Palace ! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (Airtours Direct) Airtours May 2004 Opinion submitted in June 2004 by : 41&50 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: Hotel itself is very impressive main areas are what you would expect of a 4* staff are not the friendliest i have come across. Everyone is very very smart in their dress Although a waiter in full dinner suit really isnt neccesary at the pool side bar. Food was the biggest complaint, first you had to queue to get into the restaurant to get a drinks ticket then long queues for the hot counter(and with over 300+ people in the hotel its a long queue) and when you got it, it was Cold nothing was ever hot, the hot water machine was tepid. Wasnt very keen on a mixture of cooked carrots and sweetcorn for breakfast. Breakfast served from 7.30 we were leaving early so were the first ones down the bacon was cold and the hot plates you could hold your hand against them, Tables were very slowly cleared. We actually only had 3 breakfasts and 2 evening meals in the week that we were there. The pool area was massive but everyone squashes into one area were the sun is so its not unusual to go for a swim and find you are completley surrounded by the time you return. Everytime i turned over i hit my foot on a mans head and im only 5ft tall, The pool bar although advertised did not serve any snacks until the day before we came home and that was only til 3pm. Our rooms were very nice and spacious and were cleaned every day for the first few days but after that only the beds got made. A fine inpressive building but thats were the 4* begins and ends. Certainy wouldnt return to this hotel. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: Globespan - May 2004 Opinion submitted in June 2004 by : Ian & Grace - Scotland ( 53, 49, ) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: This hotel is a beautiful property which is excelently maintained kept imacuatley clean and has the best swiming pool anyone could wish for, it has large air conditioned rooms which are cleaned every day and towels are also replaced on a daily basis. It also has a very large restraunt with an abundance of seats, on entry to the restraunt you have to wait until the girl on the till gives you a bill/recipt before you can sit down as this is what the drinks waiter requires before he can furnish you with drinks of any discription unfortunatly this girl on the till is taking the bills from customers going out of the restraurant and leads to a hold-up at times with people trying to get in and out of the restraunt. The hotel is only 500 Mtrs from Universal Meditirano so is about a 10 min walk to the park it is only a 10 min walk in the other direction to the centre of Salou. I estimate that only 20% of the guests are British and this reflects in the menues so if you like British Fare then the food layed on may not suit. The other thing is being so close to the Theme Park the Hotel attracts a lot of Familys & Kids so if you are just a Married Couple or Honneymoon Couple this Hotel is not for you as the Kids running around will probably get on your nerves. To sum up a very good property for Familys close to the Theme Parks and Cenral Salou but the menue content needs to be looked at to provide more choice for British Fare. Also the swiming pool and general pool area is second to none and idealy suited to Familys with Kids. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salauris Palace - Salou Operator and Date: (Direct Holidays) Direct Holidays - 2004 Opinion submitted in Sept 2004 by : Colin & Pauline Statham 58, 53 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Our first impressionsof the Hotel were that it looked the business and the reception staff were friendly and helpful. Our allocated room was first class and could not have been much better except for the view. The balcony was enclosed, bare brick with a 6 foot by 4 foot opening, facing a busy noisy main road.We could see in the distance the roller coaster ride at the nearby theme park.Across the road about 60 metres away was what I can only describe as a pile of used house bricks. It was as though a large building had been felled by the late Fred Dibnah. Slightly to the right we were looking at the scaffolding of a new hotel. We were eventually moved to a room overlooking the pool at the rear of the hotel. This was a shade smaller but the view more than compensated us. The only criticism of the hotel was the food.We expect and accept that the Spanish have different tastes to us and we should adapt in their Country but to serve bacon oozing in oil with more fat than meat and eggs fried to oblivion is a bit too much to stomach. On one evening a chef was carving roast pork at the Carvery and the meat was the colour of a Liverpool FC shirt.Needless to say not much got eaten. The pastries, sweets and cakes were exceptional and could not be faulted. What I found suprising was the price of the drinksat the bar.Spirit mixer at 3.2 euroswere cheaper than any of the bars and believe me there are hundreds. Obviously H10 have done their homework in trying to keep guests onsite. In my opinion the hotel entertainment was a bit dated and we only used the hotel at night for a nightcap. The main area for pubs/clubs etc was near the beach running parallel with it towards Cap Salou. It reminded us of Benidorm about twenty five years ago.A much nicer quiet area is around and about the rear entrance of Danny Boys. Two pubs that spring to mind are The Thistle and the Rose and The Dog and Duck. Cambrils along the coast is well worth a half day visit but don't try walking it get the bus (just over one euro). La Pineda and Cap Salou are well worth missing although the water park at La Pineda has a good reputation. Atrip to Barcelona is a must but don't try and do it on the cheap as you will miss so much.Local travel agents were charging 34 euros whereas " My Travel" charge 36 euros. Go with your company and you will not have to put up with a commentary in three or four languages. I am not the least bit religous but Goudis unfinished church takes your breath away. Our tour included The Spanish Village (examples of village life in all provinces of Spain),The Mayors steps,Olympic Stadium.Goudis church and the Nou Camp (home to Barcelona FC). A great day out and if you get Catherine of My Travel you'll get a first class well informed tour. My thoughts on Salou are - a clean lively resort probably best suited to young families and certainly teenagers. Thoughts on the hotel - food apart,it is first class with a good location not too far from amenities but away from the busy noisy areas. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Salou - Salou Operator and Date: big eejitsville - 2004 / 2005 Opinion submitted in May 2005 by : mike hunt & dawn tuchit & family Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: Welcome, bienvinido, wilcommen to the hotel aka El hole.Brilliant, every time i asked for something i was ignored so i saved loads of money. Great beach - a fusion of sand and what is derived from sand - glass - plenty of it all broken up - I think it must have been an environmentally friendly beach, all that recycling of sand and glass, I don't know if they could recycle the used c*ndoms I found, though they were a source of fun for the children, it's amazing how far they can fly when you let the air out of them. Salou Pacific looked great once you walked into the hotel reception, Bar , resturant looks great . Until u need some service. The food is horrible , the bar staff are so rude and takes them 10 mins to get you a drink. The reception staff are rude ! The salou pacific hotel is like two diffrent hotels the 2nd floor and the 4th floor are realy clean , corridor , clean bed, clean towles everyday . 1st floor and the 3rd floor seemed always to be filty along the corridor always glasses and plastic bags everywhere lucky for us we were on the 2nd floor. The rooms are just basic 2 single beds and a sofa bed. The sofa beds were old if you took them apart the pull out part would roll along the floor as it was on wheels we put the kids on that, basic rooms for sleeping and getting dressed . Salou is a lovely place the beaches are great the bars and shops are great . The rovers return is very good for familys . Also the Champion Bar has a clown to keep the kids busy . Their are also a lot of arcades around for the older kids at night . Portaventura is great . The fireworkes have not to be missed brilliant show . A great hoiliday in salou and will be returning . When we arrived we entered a lovely reception area with the bar just out of view in a friendly atmosphere. The place looked spotless. Paid our e60 euro deposit for damages to room, if any (Please see later comment.....). We were allocated a studio on the 1st floor. Opened studio door and entered a cardboard box, not enough room to swing a kitten. We resorted to the fact that it was only a base for sleeping and decided on bed allocation. The pull out bed in the living area, which was supposed to be the double bed, there was a difference of about 4 inches in bed heights so the kids got these. There was a room containing 2 single beds so we pushed these together for ourselves. On the 1st night, my 3 year old walked over the higher bed and when he stood on the inner lower bed, it collapsed. There went our "2 single" double bed. He took over 1 of the beds in the room. We resorted to being squashed into a single bed for the 2 weeks. Woke up the next morning and went to the shop for breakfast. Came back to the "studio" to prepare breakfast and discovered that there was only enough cutlery and crockery for 2 of us. We looked at each other and then wondered what the e60 euro would cover. In much laughter we decided that it would furnish the 1st floor accommodation complete. Ha Ha. We went out for breakfast. The 3rd night..The neighbours. Patio table and two chairs came crashing on the roof of the restaurant/entertainment area from the 5th floor..Say no more. The swimming pool.... Swimming pool was well maintained except for the lack of sunbeds. The lifeguard who is there from opening to close (10am-6.30pm) also maintained himself. While rubbing sun tan lotion into his legs (At the shallow end) my 7-year-old son was pushed into the deep end and myself and 2 other men jumped in to save him). The lifeguard did not even come down to check him but changed positions. He went midways of the pool away from the shade of his umbrella. The rep actually went over to the youth that pushed him in???? Cleanliness.... Every day the towels were changed and most days the beds were made. We envied the block of apartments that we were facing because they had a brush, shovel and mop on their balcony. Our room was untouched with a brush and mop for the entire stay. We used 1 of the kids T-shirts to clean the floor on a daily basis. Security.... At the end of our 1st week we were just off to the theme park and there was 4 girls at reception waiting for their transfer, but they did not look happy. They told us that the guy in reception had them checked out. I.e. he handed e240 deposit money and their passports out to someone else. We discovered later that they were issued with emergency passports 2 days later and returned home. Salou itself..... On a whole we did not spend much time at the hotel but enjoyed Salou and especially the theme park in Portaventura. We purchased 2-week passes and spent 7 days there. The Sat night fireworks show at midnight is not to be missed. The paths in Portaventura were actually cleaner than our room. Places to visit. If you have kids, The Rovers Return is a must day or night. During the day they play films to keep the kids happy and by night they have great family shows. The hypnotist Rick Matthews is not to be missed. The show is kept clean for the kids and is a great laugh, especially if you participate and buy the DVD to enjoy when you return home. Kiss disco bar is also good from 11pm-1am if you have kids aged between 5-14 for a bit of disco dancing. You can enjoy a drink while they boogie. The market on Fri in La Pineda is good but much of the stalls are the same. If you like bargaining this is the place to go. Water parks. The water park at Portaventura is excellent and is far superior to the Aquapolis located in La Pineda. A must to see for both grown-ups and children. I had more fun than my 3 and 7 year old. I really enjoyed this holiday and want to say thanks for the help I received from 3 people while I was there..... Paco who runs the Minimarket outside the Salou pacific, Billy who works in the Texas Embassy restaurant up the road and the Travel Rep, Christine who also helped when my child fell ill. All in all, Enjoy Salou, it is a wonderful place and I shall be returning, but not to the Salou pacific. The only thing pacific about this hotel was the amount of water that was coming from the public toilets on to the floor on a daily basis. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salou Pacific Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: Budget Travel - May 2005 Opinion submitted in May 2006 by : Ms. J.Bennett - Dubloin ROI, Age 34 Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: Just back from a 5 day trip to Salou, fine if you want a cheap & cheerful holiday with the usual pubs, clubs and "chips with everything" type cafes. Just scross the road from Salou Pacific Apts, Connect cafe was slightly better for breakfasts and lunches, and the italian restaurant beside it was good for dinners, plenty of locals dining there, friendly staff in both. AVOID Porto Fino near mcdonalds - recommended to us by the rep but our meal was dreadful and the staff very rude. As for the accomodation, having read reviews here I was expecting the worst, but our room on the 3rd floor was relatively clean, basic accommodation. NO WAY would it fit four people, they must be mad suggesting that. Everything worked but yes, handles loose on doors, wobbly shelving, raised tiles to trip you up...and the crowning glory was an unscheduled shower that came through the ceiling! LOTS of water, flowed over the lights but nothing tripped out as you would expect...good job we were in the room at the time...after a bit of a fuss they moved us to another room but we didnt feel very safe, especially when told by locals that similar problems have been reported and even heard tales of walls partly collapsing - hearsay I know but makes you wonder... All in all I couldnt reccommend the Salou Pacific unless you were desperate, staff were relatively okay and I heard entertainment was fun for families but the place had too many "accidents waiting to happen". Entertainment wasnt brilliant but they tried to keep the kids amused, english as well as spanish. Salou was quite noisy and busy, okay if you like that kind of holiday, the beach was nice, sandy, but packed, ideal for children though as the water shelved gently so kids can safely play in the sea. Port Aventura and Costa Carribe well worth a visit, we bought the 3 day pass(2 days at the theme park and 1 at the water park) found it to be 3 great days out and great value for money with something for everyone! (nescafe and pg tips!) there is a man who runs buses from the airport to your hotel (if you don't have transfers). he charges around 10 euro's return or around 5 one way. only use him ONE WAY! we bought return tickets but a couple of days before we were due to come home we went to make sure we knew where the bus stop was , we waited to see the bus go by--- it was nealry half an hour late!! which would have possibly made us late for check in. it is worth the 25 euro for a taxi back to the airport all in all only the hotel salou pacific spoilt our holiday. we enjoyed every second of salou itself & would recomend salou to anyone but would not recomend salou pacific to my worst enemies dog!!! we shall return to salou but we have checked things out whilst there and have seen some much nicer hotels to stay. we hope you enjoy your stay in salou as much as we did--- just hope you aren't staying at the salou pacific! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salou Pacific Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: budget sep 03 Opinion submitted in Apr 2004 by : diane ireland 30,32 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: WE booked salou pacific as a last minute holiday leaving the kids with grandma at home On arrival at hotel at 1pm room was not ready had to wait 1 hour for room The room seemed very small and pokey was glad we didnt have the two kids staying with us The shower curtain was broken so reported this to reception and it was fixed within an hour The staff were very friendly also the cleaners were very efficent RESTURANT The breakfast was average but edible the evening meal didnt even reach this standard so out of 7 nights we ate elsewhere 6 of these All in all the hotel was average not suitable for a family and just about ok for a couple RESORT Do not go for a chinese all you can eat buffet (the microwave beside the food is there for a reason) The beach is fantastic along with port aventura and aquolopis park We are returning to salou in june04 with the kids this is the first time we shall be returning to the same resort twice in a row --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salou Palas Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: (Direct Holidays) Direct Holidays june 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : robert - motherwell 55,52,30,27,22,22.2,1,4 months Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: the salou palas apts were excellent, clean with plenty of room, 2 toilets are handy with 6 adults in the apt, washing m/c,microwave. nice pool area wre we never had any problems getting sun loungers. the staff were very nice and helpful especially the lady on during the day was really pleasant and could not be more helpful. salou itself was good if not a bit expensive, with plenty of great eating out places which we did everyday, danny boys, the old brown cow, the chippie and a very friendly chinese restaurant just down from were we stayed,on the corner. the only down side to the resort is that it did not have a great night life, we usually ended up in a pub, the rose and crown is very friendly place to visit and shennanigans. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Salou Park - Salou Operator and Date: Independant - June 2007 Opinion submitted in June 2007 by : Martin Mountford - Essex (40 & 37) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Opinion: We arrived three hours early to check in and were surprised when our room was ready. I would not reccomend this hotel to anyone. very dissapointing holiday .The hotel was clean and food good but that was the only good thing i could say about it . --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Salou Park - Salou Operator and Date: sunstar leisure august 2006 Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : gary jackie simon josh brad - cumbria ( 39, 34,15,13,7 Resort Rating: Below Average Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Opinion: From the minute we arrived at this hotel it was a nightmare we paid to have a seaview or pool view but ended up in a basement room with no balcony and bars at the windows. When asking to move rooms they said they would need more money off us they just would not listen the rooms were very small and cramped and we looked out onto a carpark these rooms are not mentioned in any brochure it is a joke. The pool was small but ok food was ok but to much fish every night. The staff were very unhelpfull and miserable they seemed to cater more for there own. The entertainment was poor and no shows were english i would not recommend this hotel to anybody english. The Hotel Is Not a 4 star in my opinion at a push a 2 star. The beach down the road is lovely salou itself is nice. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Salou Park - Salou Operator and Date: Globespan Oct 1 -15 2005 Opinion submitted in Nov 2005 by : Jacqui Cartwright from Blackpool (44 & 69) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: My Mum & I bought the holiday off eBay on the Tuesday & travelled on the Saturday. I had researched the hotel on here so kind of knew what to expect. Stephanie who works on reception is very good. We were put on the ground floor which worried me slightly but turned out fine. Rooms adequate, have had better 4* accomodation elsewhere, beds were really comfy and maid service was good. Entertainment was very good in the hotel bar but was reduced in our second week for winter season. As usual animation staff had little to work with but were very pleasant. Drinks slightly expensive at 2.90 euros for a pint & 5.90 for a gin & lemonade! But, shows were good, but when show finished, and before it started, if you were under 60 then... look elsewhere. Unless of course you enjoy a quickstep! The hotel clientele is very mixed from all over Europe, but, predominantly Scottish & Irish, & boy the Irish who came for our 2nd week were unbelievably noisy & had little regard for anyone else. The restaurant served excellent food with wonderful variety. As people who like to try everything we were not disappointed. They even put chips on every night for those "Brits Abroad" who won't eat anything else, although I couldn't comment on the quality as we never had them. Wine starts at 6? a bottle & was potable. The water was extortionate at 3? for a large bottle, the little supermarket just down the hill on 2nd block on opposite side had same for 35cents! So ...??? Her prices are as good as the big supermarkets so save your legs, & arms. No |
