Plenty of children, but with nothing to do on an evening. no fun fayre on the beach like we were told when i booked it. 1 'family' pub which allowed stag and hen parties. hotel was terrible. brochure said undergone recent refurb, couldnt be further from the truth. extremely basic, not very clean, bed linen changed once a week. very small room for 2 adults and 2 small children. We paid £800 for the room an absolute rip off !!!!!!!!you had to pay for air con, fork out 110 eu upon arrival as a deposit for your room just in case it got damaged. i would NOT go to this hotel if someone paid me. We went to the hotel across the road (also 3*) playa park????. you wouldnt believe how different it was and would you believe it cheaper than staying at the albatross. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : Helen Jackson - Sunderland (39,38,14)): Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: These apartments are very Basic. When we read in the brochure they had just been referbished we thought oh these will be nice. How wrong all they had done was paint the rooms. The furniture was old, the bathroom was had old tiles on and was not too big. These apartments are not big enought for 4 people there was 3 of us in our room and that was cramped. The pool area was very cramped hence we did not go and also the pool was freezing cold even on an afternoon in august. Big Als cafe is a bonus for these apartments, the food is nice and not expensive, cant say anything about the entertainment as we never went. The other good thing about the apts are the balconies they are a nice size, unfortunatly we did not have a sea view we were in room 214 which is on the first floor oppisite the lifts and above the entrance to the apartments. Also we hired aircon for the week at the cost of 58euro which is a bit steep. You also have to leave a deposit on arrival of £120 for damages which is a laugh really when you see the rooms. Can definalty say we will not be going back, infact we were happy for the first time ever that we were only there for 1 week as we were ready to go. Also the resort of salou itself is dirty and has seen better days. We have been to a lot of spanish resorts and islands and this was the worst. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

Opinion submitted in May 2006 by : Steve 29, Dawn 31 + Louise 5 - Wirral Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: What a fantastic holiday! Worried about apartments at first by pictures we had seen but very pleasantly surprised! Room was extremely clean and very spacious for a studio apartment, had a wonderful sea-view from the balcony - room 305! Maids cleaned and changed towels everyday bar sunday. Pool was freezing cold as my 5 year old found out when she jumped straight in deep end on our first day but when very hot this is a bonus!! Al's Bistro was great. Food and bar snacks good and had entertainment on each night (Quiz and bingo followed by entertainer). Found lots of lovely eating places down town but main hit with my partner was the Indian Restaurant that sold pints of San Miguel for 2euros! On the whole this was a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday mainly by staying in nice, friendly surroundings and being made to feel welcome. We will DEFINATELY be returning to the Albatros and Salou in the very near future!!!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

The fans are free but are not very affective. There is no mention of air-con in the Thompsons brochure but it is available in some rooms at 8 euros a day for studio & 11 euros for twin room. Big Als bistro is ok, but we only ate there once. If you want a good meal and big portions go to Richards Tavern, Just head right out of the Albatros and turn left. Its about 200 yards on the right. The Best water park is the Aqopalis in La pineda, Just get the Bus from outside the front of the Playa Park. Its about 1.5 euros each way. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: oct2005 Opinion submitted in Oct 2005 by : family foames 34,24,6,3,2 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: just come back from a great holiday in salou great beaches, lots to see and do u have to go to portventura its great (dont allow u to take ur own food or drint thou)the train is great for seeing salou the hotel is brillant clean friendly and big als is a must big snacks for cheap prices they also have a small games room and 4 pool tables and a local shop with friendly staff too all in all a great place to go enjoy --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: ryan air-sept 2005 Opinion submitted in Oct 2005 by : mark fisher-n/hamptonshire (52,35,34,13,6) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: This holiday was a great escape from the mundane life. The appartments were adiquate but what made it was the balcony with the sea veiw so beware if you go try to make sure you get a sea veiw otherwise you colud be looking at someone elses balcony for 2 weeks! The bar was basic and the pool was freezing but the resort of salou and the beach made up for that.We found a few good places to eat but if your not looking to go far then you will find the pirate resteraunt next to the beach life bar very good and reasonably priced, also a walk into town you will find the fox and hounds pub very good.If your looking for a diffrent meal then the chinese resteraunt up the side street next to burger king to be excellent. The theme park and the water park were very good , transport to the park is ok.if you get the little street train then it will take an hour , but if you walk into town you will find buses cheaper and quicker. The aquapalis water park is only a short bus ride away and for a few euros you get a great day at the park plus an excellent dolphin show. When you read the reveiws about the hotel and turn up there you will go "mmmmm" but if your room has a veiw of the sea it makes up for it , we found the staff very good and maids tidy up every two days which makes it a holiday for the wives too!Oh and if your an angler looking for a good days fishing , forget the sea as i failed to find one for less than 50euros an hour instead i went carp fishing up in the ebro valley with a great guy called andy piper..we had 11 carp in a short time , we even had the chance of a catfish or two but for 75 erous all tackle bait included it was a great day he even picks you up and drops you off.My lad had a 7lb carp ...his first.Andys number is 650404879 but his son owns the beach life bar and the house of illusion so you will see the posters . overall pleased with the acommidation , resort ,food and of course the fishing .would return --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: we were very worried about staying at the albatros after reading some of the reviews before we went on holiday! no need to worry as we found the apartments absolutely fine. rooms are basic but spacious, has everything you would need for your holiday home. hotel is generally quiet at night time but our room was facing another large hotel which had various caberet acts until approx midnight every night- not such a problem though as we just watched the end of the show every night from the balcony! hotel reception is very good- open 24 hour and staff very helpful. hotel has lots to offer such as shop, games room, pool area, big al's bistro/snack bar, restaurant albatros. pool area a little bit crowded at times but we were there in school hols! secluded beach is approx 5 mins away and is lovely and peaceful and a nice escape from the pool in the afternoons. food at big al's bistro is fantastic. salou is your typical family resort- very busy and lots to do and see. a trip to the aquapolis waterpark is a must- easy to get to on local bus but arrive early as queues a very long to enter park. if your considering doing a day trip during your holiday the 'big day out' is highly recommended by us! the big day out is a trip to barcalona football stadium for a behind the scenes tour and then the afternoon at barcalona zoo- excellent day out. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

We expected a 'naff' room, after reading all the comments about these apartments, but were bowled-over when we realised that it had been re-furbished! Our room felt 'new' and was very clean. A good size too for a studio apartment. There was a sliding partition door that you could use to separate the room off, giving you a 2 bedroom effect. The room was cleaned and towels replaced far more often than stated in the brochure. It was also well equiped with a nice sized balcony, from which we had a sea view. The only noise we heard was from the hotel opposite and isn't really worth a mention. All the staff were very helpful and the Thomson Holidays
There is a small beach directly behind the apartments that is lovely. There are loads of steep steps to negotiate to get there but we loved it. Port Aventura is a brilliant place to visit. We bought a 14 day ticket before we left and saved a fortune. If you have children, especially teenagers, its a must to go there! Make sure you go on the roadtrain that takes you to and from the park, it's much more fun than the bus or a taxi. Salou has everything you need and more for a family holiday. All 4 of us had a fantastic time and we will DEFINITELY go back to the Albatros! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : Laura Izzard - Isle of Man (40, 38, 14, 10) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: We chose this resort primarily for the children as we wanted to know that there would be plenty to amuse them and the hotel because it was reasonably priced. Slightly concerned because of previous reports of hotel, however very pleasantly surprised (thanks to the person who suggested people request room 229 - we did and it was great). The room was a good size and for the four of us it was more than adequate having everything that we needed. Maid service was excellant. Fan was in the room and didnt require a deposit neither did the remote control for the TV (which it states in the brochure). The safe was 28 euros but you get back 10 of that when you check out. Al's bistro simple home cooked english food that is good value for money and very popular. Pool is basic but fine and room enough for fun! Kids pool is small but safe. Sun lounges free but get there early. For those who have complained about the decor - your on holiday - you shouldnt be in your room long enough to care!! Beach closest to the hotel was down steps that are a killer to get back up but worth it. Sun lounges 3 euros a day as is a parasol. Fantastic link for whole town and Port Aventura by road train. Costs 2.50 euros - it can sometimes be cheaper and faster to get a taxi but the train takes you to the entrance of Port Aventura whereas a taxi drops you off a little way from there. Dont worry if you think you have got the wrong train - they all go in a circle but take different routes - you will get back to the Albatros eventually. Some of the pavements are very slippy as I found out a number of times :-) Port Aventura - dont feel that you need to rush to fit everything into one day - its not as big as it first appears. Two days we had done everything twice - however we were lucky in that the longest queue was 30 minutes - apparently they can be much longer than this for the more popular rides. To summerise a brilliant holiday - would go back again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Janice Donaldson (48) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: A recent holiday to this accomidation, the rooms were very poor, under average standrd for this day and age. In need of big re-vamp. Poolside furniture was needing to go to the dump. I'm sure plastic garden furniture is cheap enough and would have made a big difference to the poolside and this accomidation. Apart from the very very poor accomidation the view was lovely, also i may add Als Bistro served very good meals at a reasonalble rate, service was quick and on time. Also last but not least Kim who Als wife, very very nice lady managed to get 2 skirts for the price of 1 drink, good on ye lass! Hope they fitted nice, no hard feelings.. u and your husband were very nice to our party. Take care love the clampits! apprehensive about the look of the apartments on Skytours website, but
was pleasantly surprised and can't understand why Skytours/Thomson Holidays
Apartments are lovely, nice big balcony with sea views. Well equiped with toaster, fridge, oven etc. Towels changed every two days. I didn't like the fact that the safe was in reception, I would've prefered if it was in our apartment. I thought 110 Euro deposit was a bit steep, so be prepared. Got it back after the handyman had checked out our room and made sure there were no breakages!! Ate in Big Al's Bistro frequently, very reasonable and tasty! Also Raymonds Tavern (go out hotel turn to right and then first left and carry on down the road) served delicious food and very generous helpings, came back 7lbs heavier, but who cares! The mad scotsman is another great pub just down the road from Raymonds Tavern with Karayoke, quiz, kiddies games. Main beach in Salou was very busy and couldn't even get a lounger! We then discovered that we had a nice little cove to the right of the apartments, loads of stairs though, this is OK going down but a bit of a struggle coming back up them! Port Aventura's Fiesta at 11.30pm is a must. It was a fantastic show and don't worry about getting a bus back to the apartments as there were plenty of buses outside the park one euro and thirty cents is all it costs on the bus. We went to Tarragona Market and wouldn't recommend it, I felt it was aimed at the locals with lots of materials for table cloths etc on sale, pretty much like a jumble sale if you ask me! All in all, a brilliant holiday was had by all. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Mills Family (40,37,10,7) Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Just returned from this holiday. Flights were excellent both ways, nice short flight though Reus airport only very tiny considering the size of Salou. Looked like some renovations going on. Albatros apartments very good except for location! Place was clean and well kept, reception staff friendly and helpful. Apartment plenty big enough for 4 of us. As it is at the top of a hill there was a steep walk up and down a hill or steps everytime we went out. Not good for those with mobility difficulties or very young children. As we don't fall into those catagories we were OK (just!) Pool very deep and not suitable for children and non swimmers. Small childrens pool though not big enough to try swimming in. Deep end of big pool was 12ft deep the shallow end was approx. 4ft deep. Didn't go to large beach of Salou but went to a couple of the smaller closer ones. One had 112 steps to it! Food and entertainement at Big Als was good and the kids won loads of toys on the grabbing machine in the games room. Salou itself we didn't like. It is much bigger than anywhere we have been before. It was much too big and commercial and there were no activites for the children along the front or by the restaurants. As it is claimed to be a family resort this was dissappointing. We have been to other places where there is somthing for the children to do while we sit and have a drink by the sea even if it was just a play area. We had a good holiday but would not return to Salou ever! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

Spainsh kids very rude we thought as in port avnetura one punched my 9 yr old on head and whilst queing one drew on mates arm with marker pen that took 3 days to come off, all in all nice holiday salou very built up area but not as bad as people make out, If you come out of apartments and turn right they is a little cove beach which is beautiful but beware sad as i am 157 steps down and up also albatros when say in hilly location not wrong me being lazy would class as mountain came back fitter than i went put it that way try pushing pram up with child in knackering, wetaer fantastic not one bad day, all i can say is make most of it as most people only have one holiday a year enjoy yr stay. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

All in all a fantastic holiday, Albatros see you in 2006 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: May 2005 Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: The albatross always struck me as a miserable bird...and that's exactly what I was when i arrived as these dreadful apartments. After we had been hearded off the cattle truck - I mean coach, we headed for reception (Twin Peaks meets Fawlty Towers). We venture out to check out the 14 1/2 foot Sheep Dip. However, from the slimy remains floating in it clearly the shepherds had been busy that day. We tried to drown our sorrows with some wine and beer at the basement bar that even Norman Bates' mother turned her nose up at. The food and chips was of an inferior quality that night. We had no choice but to retire to our boudoir for the night. And just in case I'd forgotten to pack my smalls, the previous kind guest in that room had left her (used) G-string within the folds of the bedsheets. Clearly the staff did not want to spoil the whole effect by removing the sheets for washing. The next morning I tried to wash the whole bad experience out in the shower. Unfortunately, when I came to dry my hair, the hairdryer had melted into the Jackie Brown style bathroom tiles. I took refuse on the balcony, wondering by this point which side of the railings I should be on (I was on the 2nd floor). At least I did not have to be alone. So friendly were the other guests that they tried to strike up conversations with me and my family as they peered from above and to the side. Oh well, who needs privacy, We're here for a break! We should count our blessings. When my husband went out for an early morning stroll, he met a couple of very friendly people who helped him to pick.. now what was it... no! they picked it for him. Picked what? Oh yes, his pocket. We moved to spend four night in the Hotel Ventura. Fantastic and worth the debt. Bon Voyage everyone. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
Opinion submitted in June 2005 by : Sandra - Bradford (57,51,10,4) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable holiday at these apartments. They are in a good location short 10 minute walk to centre of Salou but right on one beach and minutes away from two others including main beach which is lovely with play areas at intervals for kids. We stayed in a Studio which was plenty big enough for the four of us and was lovely and clean and looked like newly decorated. Hairdryer, Toaster, Fan, all in the studio which was good. Big Al's Bistro attached to apartments had entertainment every night, pool tables, games arcade, supermarkent (well stocked and reasonably priced). Lovely big, furnised balconies - we had a lovely sea view (most do). Pool not very inviting and very cold. Salou itself has everything for everyone, but I felt the buildings need a facelift - a lick of paint on most of them would definitely make a big difference to the look for the resort. All in all we had a good holiday even though weather not cracking. We had two terrific storms (in the evening luckily) with hail stones and gales (made us feel at home). Would recommend Albatros apartments but not for anyone bit wobbly on legs as it is uphill on walk back from resort centre. If you have children Champions Bar has a clown every night and he keeps the kids entertained and they loved it. Also Rovers Return has entertainment for the kids. Happy holidaying. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

Opinion submitted in May 2005 by : Karen and Dan - Kent (25, 25) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: We fancied a short break with some sun and beach and after checking out the low cost airline deals we booked a Saturday to Monday break flying from Stansted to Reus. We decided to take a chance on the accommodation and booked the Albatros for £10 a night as we decided for what we were paying and the amount of time we staying, it didn't really matter! Having arrived at the airport were were intending to gat a taxi to Salou. Just for the record its approximately 28 euros each way. However where the baggage reclaim is there is a little man in a glass box who shouts bus and points to the sign which says the bus will take you and pick you up from your hotel for 10 euros each to Salou, La Pineda and Cambrils. There is also a bus to Barcelona. We gave it a go and it was brilliant. It runs 6 times a day and coincides with the Ryan air flights. Whilst you're on the bus a man comes round, asks when you are coming back, what time your flight is and arranges a pick up time. Efficient, cheap, quick and reliable so you can't ask for more really. As for the accommodation, I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. Its not the Ritz but it was clean, furniture looked new, spacious, would have been tight with 4 people but was fine for 3 and spacious for 2. We could see the sea from the balcony and I would have happily stayed the week there. Staff were friendly and some spoke English, we were also able to get in at 10am when we arrived. We actually paid for an extra day so we didn't have to check out at 10am on monday so its worth bearing in mind you'll have to check out early. We were also aware of the £80 deposit and they did check our room when we checked out. Pool is ok, good for kids but the beach is all of 5 minutes away and was much nicer. The main beach is really really crowded so we stayed on the beaches near the hotel which are alot less busy. Resort is expensive, drinks aren't cheap but its lively with disco bars and lots of british bars aswell. Its a good family resort and ideal for a long weekend. We didn't find many nice restaurants as its pretty much all snack bars but if you go to the fountain and walk left along the beach there are a couple of nice looking restaurants we didn't try. At the end of the day the flight and accommodation were fantastic for what we paid and we'd definately go back there again on a similar deal. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: Sky Tours - 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Tommy - Port Glasgow (60,60,41,41,37,37,16,13,5) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Like a lot of people i was a bit apprehensive about the quality of the Albatross. But was delighted with what i saw. The pictures in travel brochures really dont do it any justice. Despite a wide age group Salou met all of our needs. The beaches are good and by amking use of teh public transport we managed to get about a fair bit, Cambrils, La Pineda and Barcelona (by train, without the tour operator, a great experience.) Big Als provides good food although it can be bit hit and miss with the entertainment. But there is plenty about in the town to keep everyone happy. Any West of Scotland people that may be missing the Rolls and Square Sausage, just go along to teh Mad Scotsman and get yer fix. Port Aventura was fantastic, i reccommend that you stay for the Fiesta at 11.30am, an excellent fireworks display. The transfer journey to the apartment was also quick we arrived at the albatros apartments, swiftly after one other stop. I was'nt that impressed as I stood in the reception area, luckily I was aware of the £80 deposit for the safe return of the room (ha ha ha... still a mystery to me!! )as I read previous reviews, which was fortunate for us & a shock for the other holiday makers that where checking in the same time as us. We finally get to our rooms to a shockingly bright orange room ( the curtains & the bed linen and sofa where bright orange) I remember reading on this site that the apartments had recently been modernized... what part!! I don't know! We had an old time whistle kettel to use & the kitchen area was old & dirty the decor of the bath room was something from the sixtys! The pool area was small & simple but we where not bothered as we where out & about, at the beach everyday. We visted the theme park Port Aventura which was really good, and for anybody who is reading this site if you go to the theme park, you have to go on the DRAGON KHAN roller coster I'm scared of heights but I still went on it & it was amazing!!! The bird show & all the other shows where really good a must to see!!!! In a nut shell salou itself is a really nice resort, the beaches are really nice the sea is really good for children really shallow. There are lots of bars & resturants to choose from the hong kong buffet has lovely food for all you guys that love a bit of chinese, the grand cafe costa salou is really nice serving sea food to spainish & english food. I definitely will be coming back but,not to the albatros don't do what we did & not take note on the poor ratings given to the hotel, but by the time we had read the reviews,we already booked the holiday,so if you read this site before you have booked your holiday take heed!!!!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

for a half board holiday with Thomson Holidays
If foul mouthed kids (under 5) and a pool like a sunken bath is your idea of a relaxing holiday then this is the place for you! Half board?.....Dont think so as it is a self catering apartment so if you can be bothered to trek to another hotel for your meals as we were expected to then you best learn your green cross code cos you will certainly need it! The room itself was ok, one cupboard for storage of clothes and a chest of drawers for your smalls. The bathroom tiling looked like something huggy bear in the 70's would have. The maids are very persistent..woke us up at 9am twice to clean the room if you can call it that..think they straightened the top sheet and that was it. Overall the worst holiday i have been on and could not wait to get home.Salou itself is a very good resort and is aimed at families and OAPs but we had no complaints about Salou itself although I doubt I would go back. Highlight of the holiday was trying to find a wall without grafitti on it...sadly we failed. The winning one however can be seen from the train into Barcelona...Pikachu giving the finger whilst smoking a spliff...made us laugh anyway. Overall...By no means are we snobby,we live on a council estate in
Salford for gods sake but at the end of the day kids could do whatever
they wanted at this hotel and so too could their parents. Maybe the fact
we feel so ripped off by Thomson Holidays
ITS GOOD TO BE BACK --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: August 2004 Opinion submitted in Sept 2004 by : The Simpsons - Lancashire Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: We booked this holiday 4 weeks prior to our departure date 21st August, for a 2 week stay. As we had left it late there was not many available places left, we had 2 to chose from and choose the Albatros Apartments. When seeing the picture in the Skytours brochure we were very apprehensive, also the hilly location. On our arrival, from the outside the apartments we not very appealing, just like the holiday brochure. On entering our apartment we were disappointed, but we werent expecting a 5* luxury hotel. Apparently they had been recently modernised, although you wouldnt of guessed. From our balcony we had a stunning view of the Med. Bed lineen and towels changed very regularly, all staff are very helpful, friendly, pleasent and can speak English apart from the maids, who are lovely but spoke little English. The Albatros has a very handy well stocked supermarket comparable prices, also Big Al's Bistrogood cheap English food, owned by very friendly English people, average entertainment nightly. Regarding location the brochure didnt do it any justice, we found it very well situated and excellent location, they are a 5-10 minutes walk away from the town centre, and excellent bus service on the door step. The brochure stressed about being a hilly location, this was not a problem for a young active family. There was 4 beutiful beaches within 2 minutes walk, although hilly with steps. This would be a problem for small children, prams and buggies and older people. While visiting the beaches you do have to pay for sun loungers they are around 3 euros each. You also have to pay for the sun loungers and rubber rings while at the 2 water parks on the Costa Dorada. Places of interest Port Aventura themepark, Costa Caribe waterpark, Aquapolis waterpark (all easy access by bus), Barcelona freetime and fountains excursion, La pineda, Barcelona NouCamp and various other places. The Thompsons rep Mark and his "new apprentice" Anthony were both excellent and were at the apartments regularly offering help, advice and infomation in a very professional manner. 'They let us down by not being united supporters!' Generally we had a good holiday, what the apartment lacked the staff and reps made up for. Although 7-10 days would be adequate. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

Once again spectacular views overlooking the bay. Big Als Bistro, what can I say, Excellent! Staff were really friendly & helpful, food was great and good value for money. Entertainment was good apart from repeated if you stay gor more than one week. Port aventura great day out but can get very tiring so best to go over a couple of days. Zombie show in the far west worth waiting around to see. Barcelona, freetime and fountains. Abit expensive we thought. Stadium not as impressive as made out to be. The fountains were good though. Beaches, pool, weather, Excellent. All in all we had a great holiday and I would definately go back to the Albatros. The apartments were lovely, clean and had been refurbished to a good standard - new fridge, cooker, beds etc The decor was lovely and young and the views outside our balconey were amazing. We stayed on the second floor room 229 and could not have asked for a better room. We also had lovely views of the childrens park and outside water feature from our room and anybody who has booked one of these apartments will not be disappointed. The only downfall was the appearance from the front entrance of the
apartment - but most of the apartments we seen around were mainly the
same. The maids came in everyday and lefted clean towels and toilet roll
twice daily and cleaned up the room and made the beds. The staff at the
reception were great. We booked all our excursions with them instead of
the Thomson Holidays
The pool was slightly cold but it was bigger than the brochure looked. The kids pool was also a good size and it had everything you needed - sun loungers and a good eating house with pool tables, childrens arcades games. This truely was a good apartment to stay in. There were two good beaches only mintues walk away. The town centre was only about 5-10 minutes walk away dispite the hilly location but it was manably. I would stay at these apartments again and would reassure you that if you have booked one of these apartments do not be put off like we were our kids loved it! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albatros Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: self - june 2004 Opinion submitted in Jan 2005 by : Fiona Shaw (36,42,6) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: This was our second yr at Albatros. The change in the accomodation was excellent. Staff friendly and good to have 24hr reception. Great central accomodation far enough out the biz but only short walk to town. We have friends in Salou now they own a childrens soft play area and bar/snacks it is only 4e an hour children must wear socks. It is the reason for our sanity at night as we are not a pub family so the wee one gets to tire herself while we sit and enjoy the friendly company and as it is on the front the views are lovely. There is a lot to do in the area and you can have a hol full of biz or a nice relaxing one Salou is that kind of hol. Haviong spent the last three yrs in Salou we have been very happy with our accomodation. I agree the facade of the apartments is not too good but the accomodation and the staff more than make up for it. There is also a girl Andreana who does nails and other beauty bits she can be contacted at big Al's. So time for a pamper ladies! IT was fantastic! - The apartments couldnt have been better. They had just been major refurbished lovely clean apartments. kitchen facilities were great and because we were alocated to the 5th floor, we opened up the veranda to a spectacular sea view! - although we have a 4 year old child they're was no problem at all with us been on top floor - We had cleaners come in 6 days out of the 7 we were they to clean floors remove rubbish and make beds etc, Very clean rooms and staff were lovely to where we were situated although no air con - We honestly didnt need it as the sea breeze was lovely and cool at night and the weather was fantastic - under neath the apartments they're is a supermarket to get any food or drink you would need and its as cheap as going into the town! They're is also a bar/bistro downstairs where our son loved as they're was a childrens arcade, a small park and pool on out site - They're was nothing more I could have wanted - we did venture out they're is a beach literally on the doorstep or you can travel a little walk to the main beach and for kids it has lovely parks dotted along the golden sands of Salou's main drag. We picked this holiday by phoning teletext and Fantastic service was received the Thompson reps were so helpful - no delays straight onto the coaches both ways What more can I say FANTASTIC!!!! We certainly will be booking this holiday again - and making sure we ask for 5th floor overlooking the sea again. The staff at the reception were fabulous they could not do enough for us
and they were very, very friendly and made us very welcome so were Jenny
and Richard the Thomson Holidays
I loved walking around the town of Salou, we were not bothered by any sellars trying to sell their goods. The beaches are a delight, my only complaint is the steep hill to get to the beach from the apartment. All the restaurants we visited were all friendly and all the meals were excellent but we ate mainly in Big Al's Bistro again very friendly and helpful especially Big Al, Kim and Richard. The pool at the apartment was always clean but rather cold but the temperature was 24 degrees for the whole week. Port Aventura was great, we went on three days. We also went on a trip to Barcelona, we went to the football stadium and to the fountain at night which was spectacular, but felt we could have done with 2 days there to see it all. We also did the trip to Andorra which we thouroghly enjoyed. We used the train that takes you through the streets wherever you want to go in Salou for 2.50 euros. We will be going back next year and most certainly back to the Albatross Apartments which I believe will be made up to 3SSS next year. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Almonsa Playa Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: jumbo - 2007 Opinion submitted in August 2007 by : Andy 40,39,11,10,4 Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: I had been worried having read a few reviews about this hotel, particularly about noise level and number of young people. However i think it has been overdone in the reviews. the apartments are basic but very good size with excellent balcony, the pool is excellent with child pool attatched to main pool and trees around give variety of shade and sun for your choice...there was never any hassle getting a sunbed either. staff were very friendly and helpful all week. we self catered but used buffet for evening meals twice...i thought i was excellent value all 5 of us for about 30 euros(charges less for kids and even let us off the 4 yrs old) i could see it might be a bit repetetive but was decent food nevertheless.the hotel has free entertainment 3 times a week(guess its rotated weekly as looks like magician was due back again shortly after we left) but it was good fun and FREE. the hotels downside is the position over nightclub its very loud until 4am approx and difficult to get uninterupted sleep as lot of young people coming in late too...familys really need to be high up at back of complex for least hassle but it is a definite downside to the almonsa. that said you do tend to tune it out to some degree and you sleep best from 4-10am which is when pool opens coincidently. area is big on nightlife so i guess many hotels must have this general problem too. salou itself has fantastic beach and being near to barcelona was great...take train into sans barca return for 11.1 euro and then use metro for 1.25 euro per trip great value and no traffic! collblanc 3 stops to nou camp. eating out looking at sea is great too...everthing seems to run from 8pm to 12midnight in evenings so you kinda adapt to this time frame naturally which helps with the sleep. despite my worries i still enjoyed our week and value for money was great. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Almonsa Playa Apartments - Salou Operator and Date: Ryanair / holidayrooms direct - 2007 Opinion submitted in May 2007 by : Susan, Eddie & Marie, - Anglesey 41, 36, 30 Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: Well where to begin, if youre not 18-30 dont go here. The hotel is excellent for families with all ages of children. Everything was perfect from the rooms (need updating) but were cleaned everyday, towels changed every second day and beds changed 2/3 times a week. Our room faced the road, only small problem was the noise on a Fri/Sat early hours from the nightclubs, take ear plugs. We had small children who loved that they could watch cbeebies or jetix and for adults movie channel at night. We were half board and what a luxury, breakfasts were great lots to choose from, and meals at night were amazing. The restaurant staff were lovely and helpful. The pool was a bit busy for my kids but we had our own routine that we would go down at 4pm, quiet then. If you want to sit at the pool all day then join the que for the beds, it starts at about 8am then doors open 9am, but don't worry if you go down at 8.50am you should get a bed no bother, it's the people who sit in the same spot everyday that go down early. The kids club was brilliant the parks are great and the entertainment was excellent, everyone at this hotel has my thumbs up, will definetely be going back in a couple of years. The hotel is a lovely hotel which is very clean. The reception staff are there at all times and are very helpful for local advice such as shopping, phoning taxi's for you and telling you easy ways to get places as well as dealing with any problems in your apartment, selling you stamps, dealing with towel hire and also your safe keys. You could not ask for better reception staff. The restaurant has the lovely Ana and her staff to serve you. The
food is buffet style. They often have theme nights where you get
authentic food which personally I think is better than the usual food as
it's a bit too British for my liking. The breakfasts, is full English,
continental, cereals and fruit and yoghurts. Evening meals cannot be
complete without sampling the Avenida chef's variety of puddings. Take
adjustable waistbands as the puddings are to die for. The children have
their own buffet at their level but parental support is needed. There's
not many cooked vegetables and what there are isn't off great quality
but their salad bar is plentiful and very tasty. We could only get self
catering this year but bought our half board for 288? which was cheaper
than Thomson Holidays
The apartments are lovely. This was our first year having a pool view and we regretted it. It's too noisy during the day and noisy until late at night by thoughtless loud guests. The roadside with rooms numbered 21-25 seems to be the best place to be. The rooms were cleaned every day and we had clean towels every day too. There are small washing lines on each balcony but towels are not to be hung over the railings of the balcony. There is a fridge and Microwave and hob. We used the fridge the most. The pool is a great pool. The sunbed rush is ridiculous still. We
went down for breakfast one morning at 8.30am and found a huge queue
waiting. One morning I stood on our balcony and watched it killing
myself laughing at the people running to ensure they got their spot!
Thomson Holidays
The entertainment was dire. The previous 2 years we were spoiled by
fantastic entertainment of a Thomson Holidays
The Kids Club Reps were fantastic as usual and a great big hug and thanks go to Chris and his team for taking care of our children to the highest of expectations. The presigning which I had read about before we went stopped the day we arrived. But the usual fantastic standard was offered in the clubs and that was one part which the children really enjoyed. We would probably return to this hotel when Golden operate it
privately during the winter months and not when Thomson Holidays

Opinion submitted in July 2006 by : Zoe - Essex (31, 30, 3, 2) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at this apart hotel. Overall the accom. is not bad, our towels were changed on a daily basis and the bed linen at least 5 times! Our main complaint was the sofa bed, it was the most unconfortable bed we have ever slept in and we have come back with bad backs. Although our room was on the main road, once you shut the doors the noise wasn't too bad except on a Saturday night when the locals are about. We didn't feel safe letting our children on the balcony, but the air conditioning was very good and so kept us cool. As the hotel is full of Brits who think that it is ok to let their children run around the hotel and up and down the corridors until Mid night it is quite noisy if you fancy an early night. The staff are very good, 2 of the receptionists are English. The entertaiment is good but not in your face, if you do not want to join in then you don't have to and are not forced to. A visit to Port Aventura is a must, we purchased a 14 day pass in the UK, we visited 7 times and our children loved it, it caters for all ages and if you visit in July and August the park is open to mid night and a visit when it is all lit up is a must. The hotel do not open the doors to the pool until 9am, at this time there is a mad rush which could remind you of the next sales. If you get to the pool after about 10am you stand no chance of getting a bed unless it is change over day. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Avenida Park - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
Opinion submitted in June 2006 by : Bentleys - West Sussex (34,38, 2,2) Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: We came here perhaps expecting a little too much having read all the
fantastic reviews and comparing it to the Thomson Holidays
Generally speaking the hotel is good the rooms are very spacious and well equiped and cleaned every day, the staff are all helpful and friendly and the superfamily team work really hard and are a lot of fun. We were a little disappointed by the following (but probably only because we'd been spolit by the Coma Gran last year!): We have two year old twins and were relying on the soft play area but unfortuately at this hotel it was only open between 4.30pm and 6pm which was not a very convenient time for us. There were a few hazards for young toddlers - such as the marble steps/ramps in the main bar and entertainment area also you dare not let the toddlers out on your balcony even with an adult as in a spit second our little boy had chucked his twin sisters sandal though the open bars of the balustrading -not ideal from when you're on the 5th floor! Food was ok we were half board - there was a lot of choice (seemed slightly different every night for our two week stay) but it was mostly very salty and very fatty and not much in the way of properly cooked vegetables. The salads were very good though and the puddings also. The Cooked breakfast was a bit disappointing the sausages and bacon not too apertising and all the childrens cereals were very sugary. My two would only eat baked beans! (and sometimes toast and fruit) The coissants were very good though! Also we came in a group of 10 which included our nephews who are nearly 9 and 12 and they found that there was not much sporting activites for them to do - the kids club was more indoor/creative activities and they were a bit disappointed that the football and volleyball matches were for over 16's only. All in all not a bad hotel and resort it has all the essentials for a good family holiday I would think the hotel is probably ideal for childen between 3-8. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Avenida Park - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

Our rep Aidan met us at the airport and we were the first drop off, only taking 15 minutes. When we arrived the rep introduced us to the other reps inside and we checked in. our rooms were ready almost immediately. The hotel atmosphere is great. Real family feel to. The Thomson Holidays
The kids zone was excellent. The kids didnt want to leave, especially they fell in love Super Suzanne and Amazing Aidan. The pool entertainment was good during the day. good interaction for

Opinion submitted in Mar 2006 by : Karen Whittaker - Blackpool (31, 31, 1) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: As told we were the first drop from the airport which took about 10mins which was great when you are entertaining a 20 month old. The reception staff were very helpful and the reps were great too. Especially when my son was ill, offering to go to the local chemist if required. We didnt partake in a lot of the entertainment at the hotel preferring to venture out and about but what we did see was entertaining and Israel was great with the kids. If you come out of the hotel and turn left there is an excellent Italian on the left just before the roundabout. They don't have a children's menu but are happy for you to put some of your food onto another plate and you always got plenty. At the roundabout if you go right it will take you to the main beach and promenade and plenty of shops. If you go straight on up the hill you will find another good place to eat on the right hand side of the road. Its an American Diner (sorry can't remember the name of it) thats excellent value for money, really big portions. We also ate quite often in the hotel and found that the food was OK. The people that work in the hotel were helpful although you couldnt get a childs portion at lunchtime which I thought was strange as its a 'family' hotel so children will need lunch too! This road will also lead you to the smaller beach. If you go left at the roundabout it takes you to shops, bars and a small outdoor market. The hotel creche is really worth the money. It cost 10euros for two hours. My son really enjoyed it and you can sit by the pool and they know where you are if you are needed. There is also a room that you can take little ones into during the day that has a play area, toys and books. This is under the pool area. There are some steps that lead down to where they have the Clubs for the older children and the room is available at certain times during the day. There are also buckets, spades, snorkels and the like that can be borrowed. I don't know if they had just been left there by previous holidaymakers or by the hotel but anyone could use them and it saves buying them when you can't get them in the suitcase to bring home. There are local shops when the shop in the hotel is closed where you can buy any essentials like milk, nappies, wipes etc if you don't want to use up your small luggage allowance with two weeks worth of these things you can get by with a few days worth and then get some when you get there. Port Aventura was great and there was even a few rides for a 20 month
old! The water park was OK but the water, like the hotel pool, was
freezing and so became very boring very quickly for my son. We bought
our ticket (a two week pass) before we went which was worth it although
we only went twice! The Thomson Holidays

Opinion submitted in Sept 2005 by : 46, 44, 16, 12 Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Hotel was clean and the staff extremely friendly, bar staff worked very hard and the service was excellent. Reception were very helpful. Located in the centre of a built up area - we were fortunate to have a pool view, otherwise it's looking at another building over a busy street!! 9am sunbed dash was hilarious!!! We placed bets between ourselves on who would be out first - the "dash" was for location around the pool - there were always plenty of sunbeds to be had! Pool was lovely - but no inflatables allowed???!! We also ate there several times - the food was very nice, plenty of it. Used the onsite shop but disappointed that it was only open 9am-3pm, to 12 noon on Sundays and not at all on Mondays - strange! Entertainment mainly aimed at kids 7-10 years so not really our cup of tea. Bingo was absolutely dire!!! 1 ticket, 1 Euro......and the prize was a t-shirt!! No thanks! Shops were a 5 minute walk away - mostly selling usual "tat", the beach 10-15 minutes walk -very busy but great for people watching. Nice restaurants and worth paying a little over the odds for the view. Port Aventura was great - Costa Caribe a little disappointing - first
time we'd ever had to pay for inflatables!! Which were promptly stolen
went we left them at the bottom of a ride!! Food and drink is expensive
there too. Barcelona was a real highlight - we had thought of going
there by car or train - so glad we did the Thomson Holidays

Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : Dave Porter - Aylesbury (43,40,11,9) Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: The Hotel is excellent and as described in the brochures. The Staff are all very friendly and helpful. The hotel entertainment is also very good courtesy of Israel the hotel performer. There is not a great deal of entertainment for the 13 - 16 year olds within the hotel. The swimming pool is clean, large and first class for everyone with a life guard provided. There are plenty of sun loungers but there is the obligatory 'English rush to mark territory' at 9am when the doors open. The food is very good with plenty of variety for all ages. The accomodation is very good and of a good size for families a higher floor is advisable. The bar is also very good particularly for children so adults can enjoy a drink (Happy hour 8 - 9). Salou as a place is for the 18 - 30. Very busy and loud with too many 'English' bars for our liking. The hotel does suffer a little but not too much. It is a good base to visit Barcelona. The fountains are a must! The theme park is also very popular with many. Cambril a short bus ride is a lot more 'Spanish' and with an excellent beach plus many food outlets (we'd stay here if we could). Tarragona another short bus ride is excellent for history and shopping. All in all a good hotel if you then travel away from Salou in the evening to visit (Spain!) We felt we'd done Salou in a couple of evenings! The weather was also excellent! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Avenida Park - Salou Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
