My/Our Holiday Review:

The Hotel was very clean and the staff were pleasant and helpfull appart from one lazy member of the dining room staff.

The lady who cleaned our room was very pleasant and kept it spotlessly clean.

The pool area is very nice and there is a good sized seperate rectangular pool where you can have a good serious swim if you arrive early enough in the morning.

The rep informed us at the welcome meeting that the hotel does not allow sun beds to be reserved before 10:00 am but nobody attempts to enforce this and lots of people were reserving them at 08:00 am before going for their breakfast.

Not all the food is brilliant but we found that there was such a wide selection that we could always find something decent to eat.

The dining room can get very busy (it was peak season) and it would be much better in our view if it opened at six rather than seven.

There is plenty to do at the hotel with a wide range of activities. We didn't really bother with the evening entertainment but found that prices of drinks in the hotel were not marked up too much as they often are in hotels.

We were also pleasantly surprised to find that lunch time eating wasn't badly priced and it was possible to eat fairly healthy. We eat out for our evening meal once in Tossa at a restaurant on the front and it was rubbish.

One of us was adventurous enough to use the nude sunbathing section on the roof of the hotel which was hardly used. It is a lovely sensation sat relaxing in your birthday suit in the jacuzzi!

The resort of Tossa is very nice and it is an easy stroll from the hotel.

One thing that did disappoint was the weather. Having endured three months of rubbish weather in the U.K. we could not believe it when we had loads of cloud on all but about three out of the fouteen days and it poured down one day! In Spain in August?

We are used to going to Greek island where we have always enjoyed continuous sunshine for the whole fortnight, but Anne wanted a short flight! I think we'll be back to Cyprus next year!

My/Our Holiday Review:

The resort of Tossa de Mar was exactly what we had hoped for. Very spanish, history, lots of nationalities. We loved it.

The hotel was really nice, lovely room etc - hotel staff very helpful but there were a few drawbacks. Firstly we usually go Thomson Holidays Gold - only because we have 'been there, done that and got the 'T' shirt so far as children are concerned. There were lots of children, some very unruly. We didn't go to the pool to sunbathe as towels were left on sunbeds from around 6.00 in the morning - if that wasn't bad enough the towels would still be on these beds in the afternoon - the continental holidaymakers seem to think that is a normal thing to do so be warned. The beach was nice but it does work out quite expensive - just under £5 each, each day.

I am not a fussy eater at all but the dining room was not very nice. Everybody on top of each other, hardly any room between tables and only a screen between some tables - quite claustrophic. The food - well, very poor quality really - we were away for two weeks after four days we were eating out. Very repetitive, my husband just could not eat there - we even went out for breakfast.

The entertainment - very poor, apart from two Tamla Motown acts which were excellent but there again for a four star hotel the 'bar' the entertainment was held in was really quite strange and it was quite difficult to see the stage because of all the stantions.

Tossa itself was wonderful - we had some lovely meals out - Tom and Tracey's is definitely a must - try his steak with green pepper sauce, best I have tasted. A reasonable little bar was the Robin Hood - we went in there when we were catching up on the football - his pasta was lovely, I don't usually eat it but it was fab.

We did the Nou Camp Tour - which was excellent - have a picture with both of us holding the European Cup - it was a great trip, we had time later for walking around Barcelona - as we had been a few times before it was enough time for us.

We managed to get tickets to the equivalent of the Community Shield Final, held at the Nou Camp which was a local derby game - Barcelona v Espanyol. There Charity Shield is over two legs - the second one being at the Nou Camp. Kick-off wasn't until 10.00 p.m. but it was worth it.

If you want a holiday in a 'traditional' type of place Tossa is up there, we would definitely return but self-catering only. There were lots of supermarkets and local butchers, patisseries, and an abundance of really good restaurants (and not overly expensive), our hotel was a nice base but really other than the room we didn't find the 'platinum' rating justified.

The local bus service is quite good too - Lloret De Mar wasn't far - wouldn't stay there but it was okay for a morning out (they have a market there). I should mention that Tossa also have a market.

Before I forget, the television - they had one english speaking channel. As we were getting ready to go out one evening, one of the original Heartbeat episodes were on so we were watching as we were getting read - half-way through the channel changed. We asked at reception if you had to 'book' the channel - they said no, so don't ask me who decides on what the english speaking guests watch but it was a waste of time really.

I'd hate to think this sounds really negative but the place was fabulous, we just felt the hotel (other than our room) was not really worth it.

We stayed at the tossa bahia hotel.

Lovely hotel, lovelyrooms.Only a few not so nice.Got to the hotel at about 11.15 had to wait till 1.30 for the room was not best pleased as we had been up since 2 o clock in the morning so both very tired.Could not get anything in the hotel until 12.30 as the pool bar does not open until then.We both was hungary so still not to happy. The food was not much to shout about as it was not very hot, told the rep and she said that a couple of the meals she hadwas not over hot,but still the breakfast and evening meal still not very hot.The bar they have the entertainment in was cold as the air con was on all the time so it was a case of being cold.It was warmer out side than it was in.Plenty of sunbeds so no need to worry.Smokers beware you can only smoke in the piano bar,and that does not open until 9 in the evening, but you can smoke outside and in your room.

I do not think i would go back to the Bahia hotel again.

Have stayed in better hotels. Don't think this was worthy of 4 stars. Clean but leaks when it rains heavily. Main saving grace was helpful staff and rather nice pool area. Resort quiet, pleasant and just as advertised.

Room not cleaned properly on three days but corrected after complaints to reception, they had staff problem with our maid I think.

Food passable if unimaginative, don't be too late or your choise will be restricted.

Thomson Holidays rep not much use, mainly interested in selling trips. Use Reception if you need help.

Not a bad Hotel but should have been priced as 3 star.

My/Our Holiday Review:

The resort of Tossa is a really great place to go if you wish to feel you are on holiday in Spain. I got to practice some of my basic Spanish on the staff in the bars as many don't appear to speak English. The castle on the hill is well worth a visit and the views are great, also visit the old church in the middle of the town. The town is full of narrow old streets which are great to wander around. Take the little land train, (3 euros)each, from the sea front when you first get there as it will help get your bearings. The bars and cafes are suprisingly cheap, probably due to the fact that many Spanish go there for their holidays I believe. If you want noisy bars and discos and gangs of youths, then don't go to Tossa, you won't find them.

The hotel was very clean and the staff very friendly and efficient. The location is at the edgo of the town but only takes about twenty minutes walk to get to the sea. The two outdoor pools were a little smaller than I envisaged, but the indoor pool was great as it was heated and had a mini shower, waterfall and jacuzzi. The food was ok but not great, after a few days we started eating out as it was better and more relaxing and cheap, (e.g. meals for three inc, a round of drinks averaged 23 euros). The dining room was efficiently run however the tables were close together and you felt you had to eat and run as people were queuing to get in.

We also went on a Thomson Holidays Platinum holiday and found this to be a bit of a con. No priority check in,(we discovered this service was stopped in Dec 04, and only found out 3 days before we travelled), the brochure also stated no free child places or discounts however there were people staying there on "Thomson Holidays family super saver" holidays. I would go back to this hotel in the future however I would book a pool side room (the road on the other side is noisy), and it would be a room only deal so I could eat out.

All in all we had a great holiday, Tossa is a great resort for families who don't need loads of distractions to keep the kids entertained, or for couples who like to promenade and eat out.

Overall very good hotel ,food to suit all tastes, kids never moaned once. Can get busy but never waited more than 5 mins to eat. Staff (all round) were very helpfull and hard working. Nice pools (colder than some )entertainment a little weak howerever, more suited to the children. One thing to mention here is the two large pillars near the front of the stage, get a good seat early or miss half the action.

Rooms simply furnished but clean and serviced daily, with good aircon, comfy beds to .

Lovely town ,great for walks and finding a never ending variety of good well priced food.Castle worth a look with great views across the bay.

The teenagers will find the hotel a little tame although parents will value the peace and quiet.

During the day the pool area & other facilities are excellent along with the organised events. At night the entertainment apart from two tribute bands was on the poor side, if you like belly dancers & plate spinners you may however disagree.

The restaurant although most of the staff do there best, at the wrong time can be quite chaos. The seating arrangements leave a lot to be desired as a lot of the tabels are far to close together. This is our third Thomson Holidays Platinum hotel & compared to the other two we both feel this is not of a Platinum standard, although in comparison to other Spanish 4 star Hotels this would be better than most.

We booked this after seeing it on the Thomson Holidays Sky channel, it says that the Platinum luggage service check in is available at this Hotel it is not. The town is quite but we felt very pleasent.

My/Our Holiday Review:

This was our first holiday with our first child. Having always stayed in small hotels in places that offered plenty of history and sightseeing, chosing a holiday to suit us and our 10 month old, just crawling, son seemed extremely daunting.

All I can say is I don't think we could have chosen better.

Both the flight and transfer times were relatively short, important with a very over tired and stimulated baby.

The hotel staff were extremely welcoming to a couple with a small child and made a great fuss over our little boy. Even when he was not at his best, we were never made to feel awkward or embarresed. The hotel and grounds were clean enough for us to feel confident for him to crawl around. He loved splashing in the sloping outside pool and going for a proper dip in the heated indoor pool.

Meals were served early enough for us to take him down to dinner with us, and the selection broad enough for him to eat the food that was on offer. The room was big enough to take the cot provided, pushchair and steralising equipment as well as the three of us. A unexpected bonus was that, once asleep for the night, we could take our son, parked in his pushchair, down to one of the hotel bars and drink away the evening as we used to before he was born.

The resort itself was a pleasant stroll away, perfect for late afternoon walks, and again the restraunts and bars were all very welcoming of children. The resort also had some spanish people living there, so it wasn't quite Britain abroad. We didn't brave the beach, although it was clean and we did dip our toes in the sea.

I have to say that this is the only holiday we have taken witha child and so have nothing to compare to. We also holidayed very late in the season, so the hotel was fairly empty, but with these points in mind, for anyone looking to venture on their first holiday with their first child, I would absolutely recommend Tossa De Mar and The Hotel Bahia De Tossa

This was the best hotel we've been to. Everything is new, service is excellent, very clean. Pool area is beautiful and a great place to relax. Aqua gym is good fun. Food is excellent. Plenty of choice for even the most fussy children. The chef cooks in the restaurant most evenings and there is at least one theme night each week.

The centre of the resort is about 10 minutes walk away which is a nice stroll out after dinner in the evening. If you like the beach then this may not be the resort for you as it is shingle and pebble and hurts your feet when you walk on it. The town centre is very pretty with traditional Spanish streets and plenty of shops, restaurants and bars. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel so much we are thinking of going again this year.

The campsite at can marti was lovely. I would however choose to go with a different tour operator. From the moment we left our departure point, the journey was a journey from hell. We were promised a royal class journey, but unfortunately this was not meant to be. Club cantabrica were rude when we reported no working toilet from dover to spain and just didnt think it was of any importance. A quick summary no. Go to tossa, choose different tour operator.

This was our 2nd visit to Tossa and we enjoyed every moment, although site is still poor with male security ogling in caravans/toilets which is a bit off putting. Nick & Julie & co our hosts made us feel very welcome and were always on hand to help or advise.

We booked through Cantabrica holidays but chose self-drive. There was a problem with our vehicle so Nick advised staying put on site and leaving 9pm sunday evening so if we broke down hopefully by then it would be monday (which it was)! then breakdown recovery come out quicker to clear the motorway (which they did)

So a big thanks to Nick & co for all the help you gave and we will see you next year!!!

Tossa de Mar highly recommended for walking shops eating & snorkelling.

Can Marti for space & freedom.

My/Our Holiday Review:

I have just come back from a 2 week HB holiday at the costa brava hotel. I did read reviews about this hotel before I went and with the mixture of good and bad reviwes thought i would chance it.

You have to follow the sun around the pool, one side does not have sun until about 2pm everyone eles tries to get the other side as soon as the doors open at 9.00

The food is just gross out of our 14 nights we only had food that was nice twice the rest of the time it was just revolting. There is a good chioce but the choice is all poo. loads of fresh fruit and the breakfasts were good. we chose to have lunch instead of dinner in the second week which is better. The bar staff were nice, night entertaiment cheesey. We complained about our room being on the seconded floor right above the kitchens, down a dark ally that never got any sun and they moved us which was good.

The beach is lovely but be warned the sand is like grit and although just brushes off your sink also exfoliates the bottoms of your feet till they're sore so take swimming pumps. It is worth while taking the bottomless boat excusion you can stay on the private beach and it will pick you up later on. The travell links were poor from tossa, but do take a trip to marine land with the kids. Parking is a nigtmare in the whole of tossa. Do not eat food at the cafe outside costa brava hotel. you can get a lovely pot of english tea from a cafe on the same road with a big clock with the wrong time.

I do not recommend costa brava hotel go to tossa find a different place to stay.

I chose tossa and the costa brava hotel because of some of the other reviews on this site. The accomadation is basic but you get what you pay for so you can't argue with that because this place is CHEAP!I don't know if it was the time of year we went but there were loads of elderly people. It was like a scene from cocoon. The pool area isn't great and we didn't fancy spending too much time there. It does have a hugh indoor jacuzzi, a gym (a pec deck, lat pull down bar and 2 bikes David Lloyd wont be losing any sleep)a sunbed? and a sauna. They should sell all of the above and invest in a decent kitchen. The food was awful. It was crap produce cooked badly and served cold. It was like being back at school. There was always a queue, it was noisy and they had dinner ladies clearing up with a trolley. This was actually a blessing because it gave us an excuse to try the local restaurants and there are loads.

The resort is lovely and not too over developed. Take a walk up to the fort after dark and check out the bar behind the lighthouse. It's a world away from all the mocknies eating their pie and mash in the faux english bars. Drinks prices vary wildly the nearer you are to the fort the more you seem to pay and the beach bar at the far end of the resort is double the price of anywhere else.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Hotel very clean, staff very friendly, food very mediocre. Unfortunately food was cold and not presented well. There was a micro wave oven at the end of the food bar but you don't really want to be reheating your evening meal. The choice was not bad considering the various nationallities. We have stayed in this hotel previously so we more or less knew what to expect food wise, we just hoped it had improved. The pool area is great especially for those who cannot swim and have to walk into the pool very carefully, which is how my sister & I have to. The pool bar served a good selection of snacks , however, as it was nearing the end of the season so of them were not available. Paco the chappie behind the bar was a very friendly sort of guy and did his best to accomodate everyone.

The hotel entertainment was not too bad however, most people went to bed once it had ended leaving the bar a bit like the marie celest after 11pm. Tossa is typical old spanish with no high rise buildings or larger louts (thank goodness). It had lots of nice restaurants but no disco bars. The evenings are spent strolling and having the odd drink or two and the champagne sangria at La Frogata on the front is very morish and at 14 euro a litre for 4 is worth it. You can take the boats to various places north & south and the scenery is excellent. My brother-in-law is disabled and in a wheelchair and whilst the hotel was fine we did find some difficulty in certain parts of the town but we eventually overcame them.

We had a good time here but as this was our fourth time it will probably be a while before we come back (even though we like Tossa De Mar I think we have exhausted it). For anyone wanting a nice relaxing holiday with a lot of Spanish flavour Tossa De Mar is good and the hotel Costa Brava ideal (but try to book bed & breakfast then you haven't paid for meals you probable won't eat)

My/Our Holiday Review:

Having read reviews of the Hotel Costa Brava on this site I was unsure of what to expect, however, there was nothing to worry about as the hotel turned out to be of a very high standard bearing in mind its 3 star rating.

It is kept spotlessly clean by a very efficient and enthiusiastic staff - from cleaners to bar staff. The bedrooms are equipped with air con, TV and hair dryers. If I was to point to any shortcoming it would be the lack of a tea/coffee maker!!!. Fridges can be hired from reception. The food was acceptable and is not repetitive or soaked in garlic?oil s some reviewers have suggested. This is a Spanish hotel catering for guests from Spain, Germany, France, Belgium & UK and the food has to be acceptable to all. No easy task. The choices are 'limited' to about 5 0r 6 main dishes plus 3 different salads together with ullimited fruit, ice cream and 3 other desserts. Not too bad for a buffet in a 3 star hotel. I would certainly have no preoblem returning to this hotel.

The resort itself is perfect as far as shopping, great beaches and crystal clear bathing are concerned. It has an amazing number of restaurants and bars - be prepared to be surprised along some of the back streets by the quality available. It is NOT a resort for teenagers who want noisy pubs or discos. There are about 4 discos in the place but as they have an over 18 policy my sons did not try them. Special mention must go to Barry & Heidi at an English Bar called Time Place located just off the main beach. They are the perfect mine hosts and serve fantastic filled rolls, baguettes & toasted sandwiches at any time of the day or night. The bar is open till the last customer leaves and everyone knows everyone else by the end of the holiday. A very friendly little bar and well worth a visit.

Also, try the champagne sangria at the Hostal Del Mar 50 yards from the Time Place, it's something else and a lot cheaper than the bars along the front which charge a premium for their location. The ladies will also appreciate the looks of the young Spanish bar staff at this bar. Special mention also to shuttledirect com who provided our airport tranfers. The taxi was waiting at the arrivals hall desoite the plane being 3 hours late. Well done!! Thanks also to alpharooms com who arranged the accomodation at a great price. I saved about £600 over Thomas Cook prices by DIY and got far better flight times from my local airport

Did we enjoy Tossa - you bet we did - and we'll be back sooner rather than later.

I went to the hotel don juan with my school in october we arrived in the airport about 3pm it took us a long time to arrive to our destination.

My first image of the hotel was extremely poor. it was up a back street and very dingie. we got the keys for our rooms the rooms were clean but very old fashioned when you went to use your hair dryers or straightners the whole corridor had a power cut. on the fist night we went down for dinnerthere was nothing to eat so I never ate anything in it for the whole holiday because it didnt even look like food. the hotel was full of pensioners but they were very friendly.

there is nothing to in the tossa de mar area at night all the shops are shut. on the third night of our stay one of the boys rooms were broken into because when the cleaners clean the balconys the leave the balcony doors open so some of the boys belongings were stolen.

In my opinion this hotel was the most disgusting hotel i have every been in.

I would only advise you to go into this hotel if u wanted 2 lose a few stone

Had a good journey down by coach, takes a long time but made easier thanks to the brilliant crew. Hotel was clean, staff friendly, food was OK, good variety mainly Spanish type cuisine catering for all tastes. Beautiful place with clean beaches and lots of small shops and lovely views from the castle. We went to Bar Elsa every night (next to Don Juan) and were made very welcome. There were quite a few Spanish pensioners there, it was nice to see them having such a good time, they danced the night away every night! Had a good journey back.

All in all a very good holiday, we are going to return next year.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We travelled with Ryan Air to Gerona Airport, then got a taxi to Tossa, it was 48 euros going, 40 euros going back. The Don Juan was a lovely, clean hotel, with friendly staff, but the dining room was more like a school dinner hall than a restaurant.

On arriving,at 11.30 p.m., the bar area was full of Germans, no Brits, and the day after there was a plague of Spanish pensioners that descended on the dinner hall. From what we understood these pensioners are subsidised by the EU, & get either free, or very cheap (mixed reports on this) holidays. On their tables at every meal was a bottle of wine & 3 bottles of water (all free). We had to pay 180 euros for a medium sized bottle of water. These pensioners obviously resented our presence, as they stared at us as if we both had three heads. When the bacon came at breakfast, within seconds they had cleared the trays, with no consideration for anyone else, piling their plates high, then having taken too much, left most of it.

Tossa de Mar is a lovely place, but there is not a lot to see or do, a lovely old castle being the main attraction, lots of lovely old streets, boat trips to Lloret & beyond, trips to various other resorts, & of course - Barcelona !!! Brilliant city. There is a bus terminus in Tossa, the bus makes one stop at Lloret, then carries on to Barcelona, over an hour of a journey, but worth it, the fare is just over 8 euros each way, this is a better option than the train, which, I believe, takes over two hours, stopping at every village on the way.

We enjoyed our stay in Tossa (3 days), but would not recommend it for a longer duration, the Don Juan was a good hotel, rooms cleaned every day, fresh towels every day, friendly staff, nice pool & amenities, but more geared (foodwise) to the Germans & Spanish.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We booked our flights, transfers and apartments independently and saved a small fortune.

We were very impressed with these apartments, especially as they are only given a 2 Star rating. In our opinion, they deserve a higher rating. Apartments are spacious, very clean, plenty of storage space and excellent air conditioning. Hot water and powerful showers, heaven!

No problems getting a sunbed in the mornings. In fact, there were still vacant beds come lunchtime. However, this may not be the case in the high season?

Bar and Pool area exceptionally clean. Daytime activities and evening entertainment very good. Fernandez, the entertainer is superb with children and adults alike. Such a friendly, genuine and helpful guy. Don't think the aparthotel would have been quite the same without him. If you meet him, ask him to do his English version of 'Cheers Mate!'

ALL of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, cleaners, bar staff and reception staff alike. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

No groups of teenagers, which we have experienced in passed holidays, running wild in the evenings and messing around in the lifts. In fact, come midnight, it quitens right down, which was fine with us!

Tossa is a beautiful resort with plenty of lovely restuarants, bars and cafes. The beach is about a ten minute walk away from the apartments. A visit to 'La Grotto' restuarant, along the narrow street that runs parallel to the sea front is a must. Lovely, friendly staff here and excellent food.

All in all, we had a fantastic holiday, better than some of the 4* accommodation we have stayed in in the past.

Would definitely return, in fact, we are looking to book again for next May.

My/Our Holiday Review:

This was a last minute booking and was cheap and cheerful. The staff were friendly, the room was cleaned daily and the aparthotel is modern. You have a card which you have to hang on your door each morning if you want your room cleaned.(I think Mrs Anderson on the other MAY07 review must have missed this)!

The best thing about this holiday is the hotel's childrens entertainer called

"Fernandez"

He is absolutely WONDERFUL. My 8 year old was busy all week with his club, competition, mini discos etc. (The Thomson Holidays reps were practically invisible, when I spoke to them I got one word answers and the only time I saw them smile was on their night off when they were off to San eloy for the evening). Fernandez does a fantastic job on his own and he also provides family evening entertainment such as quiz night bingo when they don't have a booking.

We saw the usual entertainment, spannish dancers and parrot show, majic show etc which was all quite good I thought.

The hotel is about 15 minutes walk to the beach and the rooms do not have very good views. But for a cheap hotel I would reccommend Esmeraldas to families as long as Fernandez is there of course!

We were self catering and used the nearby supermarket for pasta, pate on toast and other snacks. They sell can of coke / lemonade for 16 cents so we were able to stock the fridge up for the kids. They shut at 9pm.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We asked for a top quiet room and were allocated a low noisy room on the pool side, the bar was very near and people were outside until very late, in fact the early hours of the morning, we saw the receptionist and were then allocated a terrace room on the road, it was very quiet and nice. One problem was the towels were only changed once, the bed linen not at all and the room was only cleaned once.

The Resort itself was excellent and the food in the restaurants very good. The beach is excellent, all in all we had a very good holiday.

Coming back, the coach was delayed and the plane was delayed, people were annoyed because we weren't given a reason, we found out later the hydraulic equipment used to get the luggage on had broken down.

Also fortunately the rep told us we could not put alcohol bought in the resort in our hand luggage, we had to put it in the suitcase, otherwise it was confiscated, the extra weight caused problems for some people and the had to pay 9 Euros per kilo for the extra weight, which they were not happy about.

I would recommend the resort but not necessarily the Aparthotel for people of our age, it is excellent for families with children as there is entertainment laid on.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We booked a 5 day break for the 12th May 2006. We booked our flights with Ryanair and our hotel through Thomson Holidays online, and only paid £77.00 for 4 nights, so we wasn't expecting a great hotel!!

We were so surpised,The hotel was so clean, the staff are very helpful and friendly, we were allowed to keep our room on until 6pm as we had a late flight home. The staff couldn't do enough for us!

The hotel had entainment in the evenings for the children.Bar staff very nice and drinks cheap.

A small but heated swimming pool that was very clean, and lots of sun beds.We did go out of season, so the hotel was fairly quite.

Our apartment was basic as we expected, but again very clean had evey thing you needed, there was even a tv that had lots of english channels!

The apartment had one bedroom with 2 twin beds and two sofas for the children in the living room, the apartment was spacious and lots of storage space.

Tossa, is a beautiful resort, again when we went it was very quite, shop owners said it was still out of season, we couldn't understand why? the weather was in the high 80's every day and clear blue skies!!! why stay in England?

Lots of lovely resturants to choose from, and lovely bars up in the old town.

Have a walk around the Villa in the evening in the old town as the sun is setting, it's a breath taking sight. Also there's a surprise the other side of the Villa, another beach!

The beaches are smashing, you have the main one which is cleaned every day and a smaller on around the bay with lots of rock pools for the children to explore. Lots of divers use this area.

This resort isn't for someone looking for an 18 to 30's holiday, its relaxed and very chilled out. We thought a week is long enough here. Great for families.

We would recommed this resort, and would recommed this hotel for a BUDGET holiday only, as it is only 2*.

Myself and my friend have just returned from this resort knowing that we were allocation on arrival. At this time of year it was warm but a ittle breezy some days and cloudy but most off the time theweather was great. Now for a start i do not recommend this resort or hotel to young people wanting to have a good lively night out.

The hotel entertainment was terrible. The same family up one song after the other on kareoke, also the hotel was full of familys with children, same tackey entertainment games it was sooo boring for us. I think maybe Thomson Holidays could have at least took into account our ages and put us in a more livelier resot. The hotel itself was very nice and clean. I suppose it would be ok for either familys with children and couples or elderly people as its a very very quiet resort with most bars and restaurants closing at 11pm

People were nice and friendly apart from one rep i wont mention who was making comments about people behind there backs, which was disgraceful. Just be warned dont go to this resort if your wanting a lively place as it wont happen. On the other hand if thats what you want youl love it. Didnt try the food in the hotel as ate out most nights because thats all there was to do on an evening.

Have just returned from our holiday and have to say what a brilliant time we had at this hotel it has all been recently refurbished and and we couldn't fault it,great value for money, towels were changed in the rooms every 2 days, and the room cleaned as well.Quite suprised to find it was also air conditioned as this was not stated in the brochure, and it was free of charge (even better).

This hotel is great for families ,organised entertainment for children around the pool area for all ages at various times throughout the day ,and a disco and games for them on an evening before the adult entertainment began,(children were allowed to stay for this too).Lionel worked very hard to make sure they all had a great time.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble for them.

The pool/area was cleaned every morning ,my 3yr old daughter had a fantastic time and i would definately go back again.

The resort is really nice lots of lovely scenery ,great restaurants and loads of shops to find some bargains, wouldn't recommend this resort to anybody looking for the 18 to 30's type holiday but it is great for families and anybody wanting a relaxing holiday.

Hope you all have as good a time as we did !

We have just arrived home after having a fabulous holiday in Tossa de Mar. accomodation was rated 3star in your brochure but in fact was 2 star, although we all feel that it more than deserved the 3star rating!

I was a little dubious as I had read conflicting reports about the appts. but we were all highly satisfied with the standard of rooms and service overall. The apptartments are obviously quite old but had air conditioning and all the equipment necessary for a self catering holiday. We ate out mostly and can highly recommend a restaurant called Tom and Traceys on the seafront, its a steakhouse, although I am veggie, and was well satisfied.

Comfortable, basic apartments which provide a very good base in Tossa. We went with our two year old, and found a great playground two minutes from the hotel, next door to the friendly bar Don Quixote, which he loved. Staff in hotel very helpful, evening entertainment in hotel a bit naff though. We didn't find any English Lager Louts as in previous review though! Get a room on the front of the hotel, not overlooking the pool, as rooms there overlook local apartments and playground and have no privacy! Tossa is breathtaking lovely, go and have a drink outside La Lluna in the old town. Good shops, great to wander round the old backstreets. Very mediterranean, relaxing, holiday - quite spanish resot. If you like walking try the coastal paths - bit hard with a buggy though!

Will definitely go back!

My/Our Holiday Review:

We visited this hotel for our honeymoon and were a little disappointed when we first arrived due our room on arrival.

We opened the cupboard to put our shoes away and it broke, the cold tap was not working in the bathroom at all and the floor was absolutely scruffy. However, give the hotel staff their due on speaking to the rep David from Thomson Holidays s who I shall mention later, those problems were fixed immediately and I mean immediately.

The hotel apart from that was spotless and modern looking it had just undergone refurbishment over the winter and looked very nice. We were self catering however we did try the evening meals twice which were very nice and reasonably priced at only 8 euros per person. We ate breakfast there every day however this was an interesting experience as some of the days there was things like onion rings potato wedges and cauliflour cheese on the menu! The waiters were all very pleasant. The girls working on the reception desk were also very nice and helpful and spoke really good English.

Getting back to the rep, David. He was quite honestly the best rep I have dealt with abroad, lovely with the kids, very knowledgeable of the area and full of good suggestions and ideas. The welcome meeting was actually quite enjoyable for once! We booked to do the Barcelona "Football and Fountains" trip, highly recommended. The rep was a Spanish-Australian but spoke very good english. The New Camp is very good those who like football, Barcelona itself is a lovely city and the fountains were spectacular! Also there is a place called Marineland nearby which we did visit however with it being early season it was very quiet and lacked atmosphere but in a busier time of year I am sure it would be bustling, though the dolphin sea lion and parrot shows were very very good.

Tossa itself is a pretty resort but there is very little to do as families on an evening, though some nice restaurants to eat in. It is a good job our hotel had entertainment on, the kids had their own resident entertainer called Lionel who was French and excellent with the kids. There was a mini disco on every night followed by adults entertainment at 10 pm. Also during the day Lionel ran pool competitions, volleyball etc and every night would present certificates to the kids (and adults) which was a nice touch and my little boy was certainly proud to collect one.

All in all it was an okay holiday possibly because the weather wasnt that kind to us at the time. I recommend a trip to Lloret de mar the next resort down either by bus at 1 euro 20 each or by water taxi which you can get from the beach but that is a lot more expensive at 10 euros each. Lloret is bustling and lots more to do for the kids, however the beach isnt very nice, the one at Tossa is definitely better. There is a fab waterpark just outside of Lloret which a courtesy bus takes you to from the Lloret bus station however we didnt get there because of the weather. It is called Waterworld and is apparently one of the biggest in Europe. On speaking to the people who went from our Apartments it is well worth a visit.

All in all I personally think this resort is a little too quiet however if the hotel has good entertainment like ours did then it is worth a visit but Im just pleased we were only there the week. Hats off to Thomson Holidays s though excellent company. Oooh one more thing, if you are on a night flight from Gerona home please note the duty free shuts at 10 pm - yes 10 pm so you are up the creak without a paddle if you get there after that, infact the only thing open was one pokey little cafeteria. So any spare euros, spend them in the resort or on the plane!

My/Our Holiday Review:

The hotel was very basic but clean.

We stayed in a studio which for the 2 of us was okay as we spent little time in our room anyway.

A 3rd pull out bed was located under the main bed to pull out and use and the location of the bed had obviously been changed to allow use of this 3rd bed as the wardrobe could not be opened fully as the bed was located very close to it.

The Hotel's one bar is okay if you are a smoker but as we are not it was absolutely awful as everyone around us seemed to smoke when we were there. If you don't smoke and can't stand being around those who do then avoid this hotel completely, although the bar area has 'limited' air conditioning it does not operate as it should.

The female reception staff were really nice as were the bar staff and the entertainment girl was excellent, although she was working with equipment that was completely worn out and out of date!

The entertainment highlight is the Mr Esmerelda's competition which providing you get 5 blokes who are up for a laugh and an audience of hecklers to match was absolutely hilarious - the other entertainment becomes very repetitive after a while though as it's mainly the same thing repeated.

Note that on arrival that your room will not be ready for you until 1.30pm no matter what time you arrive - you will just have to wait for it! We were lucky and had a pool view, it will pay for you to request this when you book, if you are really unlucky, you may find that you get one of the apartments overlooking the small playground, finding yourself looking at the local's washing hanging outside the residential apartments a few yards away!

The outdoor pool was very cold although we both braved it - but the depth markings on the poolside have worn away and so beware here. For some strange reason the pool has 2 sets of steps both into the deep end. If you like me are not a strong swimmer get someone who is to test the depth for you before you go in as it's not a simple shallow/deep division.

If you go with Skytours check how long you may be on the coach for when booking an excursion, for instance a trip to Port Aventura is 4 hours travel each way, something the Skytours Rep conveniently forgot to tell us, we found out quite by chance before we went and got our money back. The rep gave none of this type of information to us at all at our welcome meeting so it will pay to check.

Tossa De Mar is nothing exciting as a resort either - no nightlife - a limited selection of food seemingly identical on all menus in all restaurants, virtually no where to find a breakfast early morning and very expensive for what you get.

The little Noddy train which travels around the resort is excellent value at 2.8 Euros if you go right round as we did you get a 30 minute ride and it's really fun.

The hotel needs complete refurbishment inside and out to bring the worn out 1970's décor up to date, the use of some modern furniture and air conditioning in the rooms would also be a good move along with a complete revision of the entertainment programme and for Playa Med who own this Hotel to give the poor entertainment girl some equipment that works!!

A no smoking rule in the bar area would be a good idea so non smokers can also enjoy the entertainment programme for an evening in some comfort.

We would not recommend this hotel to anyone and at the end of our stay were pleased to be going home and will not be paying a return visit either.

My/Our Holiday Review:

THE RESORT

Tossa De Mar is a lovely resort. We were looking for a place that was moderately lively at night without being brash, somewhere that was interesting to walk round during the evening without having to walk for miles and a place that had a beach with a picturesque outlook. Tossa has all these things and has managed to retain it's charm despite having the noisy, "in your face" Lloret as a neighbour. (15 mins by bus)

We were self-catering and found the supermarkets reasonable. There is plenty of food choice and you can choose your budget. The most expensive places we found were the restaurants on the paths leading up to the old castle which overlooks one end of the beach. We like to get out and about usually and Tossa is in a good spot for this. The Buses are easy to use and will connect you to bigger towns for other bus services or trains.

Having spent a morning in Lloret where all the shopkeepers are agressive the moment you step over the threshold, it was nice to return to Tossa where things a bit more sedate and peaceful, it's amazing how different the two places are. We don't usually travel in peak season and it was busy, particularly on the beach where every square inch was used, but it wasn't as bad as we'd expected. If you like Chinese Food, the best value eating place is a chinese buffet restaurant which sits on the edge of the main shopping street which leads to the beach. I think we paid about 39 Euros (£27) for starters, main course, desert and drinks for four and of course, being a buffet, you eat what you want.

THE ACCOMMODATION

The Esmeraldas is in a great position. We were only a few minutes from the shops and beach without being right on top of everything. I tried to find the street address before leaving UK so that I could look it up but Thomson Holidays don't publish it in the brochure. (Why not?) Anyway, it's on the Carriere Villafranca Del Penedes in the Mas Font part of the town. You can get onto Tossa's website at www infotossa com and download a good street map. The site also has a webcam of the beach.

The rooms are basic but clean. If they lack anything it is Air conditioning. You can hire fans but it's £2 a day and we would have needed two or three for the nights. You can sleep with your balcony doors open but in the height of the season, some of your fellow brit neighbours might be a little noisy. We had two or three nights out of our seven which were far from peaceful but you can't blame the hotel for that. We complained on one particularly bad night and to their credit, the hotel staff did deal with it immediately. It is a small hotel and the pool is quite tiny. The hotel attracts young families so the pool was busy and noisy. It's probably better if you don't get a room overlooking it. The entertainment facilitis are very basic. There is a games room with a really worn out pool table, some arcade games and an old ping pong table. None of this will matter if you intend to use your room solely as a base but if you tend to want more from your hotel then this might not be the place for you.

Thomson Holidays were ok, the rep was a little disinterested frankly and the "Welcome meeting" was quite painful really. However, we did do the Barcelona trip "Football and fountains" which takes in Barcelona FC and then the marvellous nightime fountains display. Barcelona is an absolute must, it was the highlight of our trip.

So to sum up, lovely resort, hotel basic, noisy in peak season but located in a good spot. Put air conditioning in and you've got a winner!

my boyfriend and I went on holiday to the esmeraldas and we really enjoyed it. The hotel's nice and the rooms are very clean. With a pool view you do see some flats that the locals live in but you never see anyone and it doesn't spoil the holiday at all, you basically forget their, there. The pool was lovely and kids love but it is very cold in May. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the entertainer BLANCA is brilliant with children. the entertainment wasn't to bad either. We saw a great magic show there and there is a champagne raffle every single night, which unfortunately we didn;t win, but we did win bingo. The beach is lovely and there are loads of shops to choose from that are very reasonable. the food is nice and very cheap as well.

Overall it was a brilliant holiday and I recommend anyone to go there. thank you skytours for a brilliant holiday xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We stayed at this hotel during the first week of July.

Rooms very nice, maid service excellent with clean towels every day.

The public area's within the hotel are very relaxing with lots of seating available.

The swimming pool very cold but sunbeds were always plentiful.

The tables in the Dining Room were very close together and food very rarely hot. The choice in the evening could be limted.

Food from the pool bar very reasonably priced and always good with prompt service.

The Bar-be-Que at lunchtime served on the Terrace of the Dining Room (although you paid extra for this service) was excellent, food freshly cooked to order.

The Piano Bar in the evening was an excellent venue always with prompt and polite service from Sheila.

Tossa De Mar is a lovely place, it is a good idea to take the train to get your bearings on arrival, priced at 3 Euro's 50 cents per adult.

The Mar Blau hotel on the main shopping street was a lovely place to sit and people watch with drinks very inexpensive, very polite and friendly service.

My/Our Holiday Review:

The Golden Bahia is probably the best Hotel we have stayed in and the staff are excellent. The room we were given on the Second floor overlooked the pool with nice vies across teh facilities. There were plenty of sunbeds and everywhere was very clean. The hotel is perfectly located just off the main shopping area and only a 10 minute walk to the seemingly dozens of wonderful little side streets and resturants.

The Hotel was quiet on our arrival but beware if you want to view this as a Thomson Holidays Gold hotel dont! as there are lots of children from Germany and France where the Summer break is clearly earlier than the UK.

This is a big Hotel and is very busy but the staff are brilliant and very attentive. The food was varied and consistently good with carvery meat each night.Drinks are reasonable 2.9 euro for pint 1.8 euro for soft drink.

The resort is unspoilt and a bit like a place where time has stood still with many little back street shops and bars. The pizzas/fish served everywhere were delicious and the resturants were busy in the day but quiet at night. The hotel entertainment winds down at about 1145 but you can still get a drink until 1am.

No chavs in this resort and thankfully very little "English Pub" influence, if you want to avoid this. The castle is an excellent walk and stunning views right on your doorstep.

We booked in January online and got generous early bird discount.

Flights and transfers were on time but beware of the Spanish bus drivers, on arrival the driver stood smoking watching everyone(including some elderly ladies) struggling in the dark to load cases!.

On the flight down we landed with 1 3/4 hours !

Weather was fine and hot for 4/5 days with cloud on the others but pleasant temperatures.

This place is definatley an unspoilt part of Spain.

We were at this hotel at the same time time as the last reviewer and there is little else to add as the review was so accurate! We had a great time. Tossa was better than expected,a very friendly place with no pretensions and no disreputable elements from locals or holidaymakers. The hotel was very good with a continuous supply of tea and coffee and bathroom goodies. This is nit-picking in the extreme but one or two things would have made it even better.Mattresses on the sun-loungers as they were a tad uncomfortable.Fridges in the rooms. And although there seemed to be two sunloungers for every guest, there was no quiet lawned area to get away from it all.

Barcelona was easy. The bus station is two minutes away.Go to the counter.Choose the day you want to go,the bus you want to go on and the bus to come back and the tickets are provided. The seats are allocated so there is no unseemly crowding at the bus stop.We only had one stop (lloret) and the bus was air conditioned.

When asked where I have been for my holidays,I say Costa Brava, and they say did you REALLY enjoy it? YES,I REALLY DID!

And I would love to go back again.

The beach is not the most suitable for children and there were few pubs and clubs but anyone else should enjoy Tossa and the Golden Bahia.Just say you are going to Catalonia!!!!

We were lucky with all aspects of the holiday as all flights, transfers and cheking in went perfectly. This hotel is probably the best one we have stayed in for service, cleanliness and helpfulness of staff.

We were allocated a room which overlooked the pool. Room was very clean spacious and well equipped. There is a safe in the room which you have to pay extra for but worth it for peace of mind. Kettle and tea bags etc in the room.Chair and table on balcony plus drier for washing.

We were on the 4th floor but there are 3 lifts so this was not a problem. Each floor has vending machines with water, soft drinks, snacks and an ice machine.

Lots of sunbeds on the terracing with 2 bars that serve drinks and snacks all day.

Indoor pool, jacuzzi and fitness room in basement plus beauty treatments. Laundrette is also downstairs.

Food could not be faulted with so much choice at both mealtimes. Drinks in the restaurant a good price. Waiting staff very attentive.

The position of the hotel is great, just a 5 minute walk to the local; supermarket and a 10 minute stroll through the shopping area to the beach.

The beach is fairly small and gritty, not much fun to walk on and it drops away very sharply so beware if you take children down there. The castle is lovely and I would recommend a trip up to the lighthouse at the top- there is a little roadtrain if you can't face the climb.

The lighthouse experience is very unusual, but don't take anyone in who is afraid of the dark or confined spaces, I'll say no more.

Boats run from the beach to Lloret, Blanes etc and are good . There is a glass bottomed boat the goes to a lovely beach up the coast and you can spend a couple of hours there.

The bus station is very close to the hotel with buses to Lloret de Mar every 1/2 hour as well as an hourly service to Barcelona.

Market close to hotel too, on Thursdays.

There is a travel agent down the main street in Tossa who will book trips for you, very efficient and a bit cheaper than Thomson Holidays s.They are happy to give any info too.We went on a trip to the Dali museum in Figueres and the castle he owned. A great day out with a very knowledable guide.

Tossa is a lovely little town with a great mix of nationalities. It feels very safe and probably hasn't changed for years. That is it's appeal. If you want noisy nightlife go to Lloret.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and resort to anyome who likes good service and fantastic food in an old fashioned seaside town

My/Our Holiday Review:

What a lovely hotel in a lovely resort. The resort is lovely and clean and untouched very Spainish.

The hotel,is probably the best we have ever stayed in. Lovely rooms with nice quiet air con which was great in the middle of July. Plenty sunbeds none of that ridiculous getting up at the crack of dawn to get a bed. Ice machines on all floors which is great when you come back from the pool and have a nice icy drink on the balcony. The food was nice but we are all plain sso some nights it was a bit rich for our taste but that is us and not the hotels fault. The staff are all lovely especially Sheila they all work really hard but nothing is too much problem.

Definitely going back next year but for longer this time

My/Our Holiday Review:

Getting there

Thomson Holidays fly flight Coventry to Barcelona, Holiday autos car hire from Barcelona airport to Tossa (2 hours max - straightforward toll motorway), Hotel only (HB) booking through Thomson Holidays . - saved a lot of money and avoided the awful Girona night flights.

Hotel

Located approx 15/20 minutes from beach and centre - flat and good pavements. 5 minutes from very cheap %Dia supermarket (eg St Miguel 1E for 1L). Nice quiet residential area. Very good market on Thursdays - again within 5 minutes of hotel.

Hotel good 4 star quality (still looking very clean and new). Rooms are usual 4 star arrangements - but with two double beds and without a mini bar. Pool view rooms quieter than road view rooms. Free ice and reasonably priced bottled water (2E for 1.5L) available on each corridor.

Very impressive range of food indeed (party was 3 veggies and 2 carnivores). Very helpful restaurant staff. Some queues for tables towards end of meal times - no problems getting tables during first hour of meal times.

Downsides

Hardly anything to moan about really - one of the reception staff was miserable and not particularly helpful. There wasn't much car parking available in the adjacent area (although with patience we found a free roadside space within 5 minutes of the hotel every day over a fortnight. The hotel's underground parking was 10E for 24 hours.

BUT

Tossa de Mar beach was unbearably crowded and it shelves so quickly that it the sea was approx 1.5M deep within 1.5M of the shore!

Best local beach is Santa Christina between Lloret to Mar and Blanes (6E to park - short but steep beach to gently shelving, clean, reasonably quiet beach with very good restuarant). Car needed to get there.

Lloret de Mar looks absolutely awful by the way.

This is the third year i have relied on this site and once more it has proved to be both helpful and accurate.

Tossa de Mar is an undiscovered jewel in the mediterranean. Unspoilt and not commercialised at all. Hotel Bahia is a superb hotel with every facility you could want to make your stay comfortable. Set back from the sea front, it only takes ten minutes to walk through the narrow streets to the villa vella and the bay with plenty of resturaunts and bars to stop at on the way. Take a trip on the glass bottomed boat and the 'splash' boat as both were great fun. You will not want to eat out at night as the hotel food is excellent but venture down to the old town for a leisurely lunch and a glass of wine. the snorkerling is superb so buy yourself a mask and snorkle.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Arrived at the Golden Bahia at 5am totally shattered The staff were very quick and caring and we were given soft drinks and a snack -- the rooms were instantly available with no hassle at all -- just what you want at that time of day!!. The hotel is spotlessly clean in fact one of the cleanest we have ever stayed in. O.K. the bedrooms are a bit badly soundproofed we were on the top floor probably the best place to be as nobody is stomping around above you -- may be as well to request this. Clean towels and sheets at least every second day and good air con.

The food was perfectly acceptable for a big Spanish hotel and was pleasantly served by most professional staff -- the wine list was great and reasonable in price. The Pool was uncrowded and well laid out with plenty of space for all and lots of quieter corners to be almost alone in.

All in All we were most pleased with the Hotel and would recommend it.

The town of Tossa de Mar seemed most unlike its neighbour Loret de Mar it is small and very Spanish with a good Blue Flag Beach .The cafes and bars along the seafront were ideal for a leisurely coffee or beer or SANGRIA -not expensive and no rush. The town centre was 5 Min's walk from the hotel as was the beach and passed the shops and restaurants which were most appealing. Take the ferry down the coast to visit the other resorts on the Costa Brava and do Barcelona on the Thomson Holidays Bus its more expensive but the Guide is well worth the extra.

If you want British Pubs and Nightlife go to Loret and leave Tossa as it is -- a great wee Spanish seaside town

My/Our Holiday Review:

What can i say, first time in costa brava,Tossa as a place to visit we found very good,if you like shopping lots of backstreet shops, bars & restaurents, remind me of Bath, but cleaner (sorry Bath).

When we arrived at 3.30am tired at the hotel we awoke quite quickly, the reception was very impressive, bright, airy & very clean, when we got to our room on ther 3rd floor we were very pleased, big bed nice size balcony & a great pool view.

In daylight it was even more impressive, nice pool (not massive)but big enough, very nice restaurent & 3 nice bar areas, highly recommend the piana bar.

staff brill, very pleasant especially pablo, gisella & shaylah in the piano bar & mercedes in the smaller bar.

Only moan i have is if your taking travellers cheques be prepared to go back a few times to get money, they were always running out & when they eventually got money it didnt seem to be much.

Back to the plusses, food very good especially in the evening, varied menues which in 2 weeks i cant remember it fully duplicating itself, drinks ok price wise, spirits measures were fab!!

we did eat out quite a few times, only named place i can remember was chez igor which is a great meat restaurant near the main church, worth seeking out as most restaurents specialise in fish...

Sunbeds comfortable & you should be able to get one easily anytime up to 9.30, if you particulally want to sit somewhere then you need to get your towels down by 7.30ish.

we met our friends over there who had children, not much doing re entertainment if your kids are over 12, otherwise o.k.

Evening entertainment o.k. but can recommenf jose in the piano bar, he is very good.

Only thing that spoiled our holiday which nobody could do anything about was A.The weather ,5 sunny days rest overcast & we went for 14 days. B.Damn flies, when your on your sunbed all we seemed to be doing was flicking flies off ourselves. If weather had been good it would have certainly been one of the better holidays we had.

Hotel wise i would certainly recommend it to anyone.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We have just gotten back from staying at Golden Bahia Tossa de Mar. I had investigated and read reviews of this hotel before booking and found them quite mixed. The hotel was of very good standard and the staff were very friendly, helpful and very hard working.

Daytime entertainment was very good, such as water areobics, water polo, volleyball and other water sports. There was plenty for the whole family to be entertained, especially the young ones. There was a large selection of food to choose from in the resturant, which was very impressive. We was impressed to see that they even had a table laid out with food for those dieting or those who needed to eat sugar free foods. Apart from two tribute bands, we found the evening entertainment in the hotel quite poor. Tossa De Mar is a very pretty place and we felt safe going around. The evenings were very nice for having a nice walk or stopping off in the numerous bars/restuarant/cafès, so you did not feel restricted to stay in the hotel in the evenings.

We would go back to Tossa de Mar and would recommend Golden Bahia Tossa de Mar for couples, families or for those wanting to get away to relax. A quality hotel.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Researched options for holiday at golden Bahia hotel via Thompsons but then booked with Portland whom are 100% owned by Thompson so you get the exact same holiday but at a lower price.

Hotel is very good. Aim to get a room overlooking pool. Maid service every day and very effective air conditioning. Restaurant is great and a huge selection of options to choose from not lease a counter where Chef cooks you either fish or meat directly for you as opposed to choosing from buffet counter.

Hotel prices very good - San miguel about 1.6 euro for bottle and soft drinks about same. Perhaps weakest partt of hotel is evening entertainment which is short (ie only one hour from 10 to 11) although there is a minin disco before hand.

Daytime entertainment consist of usual activities (ie water basketball, shuffleboard, etc). Hotel has excellent swimming pool and a small five a side football pitch.

The hotel and resort has a very mixed group of visitors - in our stay, mainly spanish guests, followed by french , englisg, german, dutch, danish and even russian.

The resort is very good - perhaps not the best for a lively teenager holiday but lots going on, loads of shops, tapas bars and plenty to see from various art galleries to the ville vella walls, etc.

car hire via Euro car was arranged via Thompsons - for a smallish car we paid about £100 for 3 days (ie you have to pay more to get the CDW). Roads not that busy even in late July but they are a little windey. Lots of places to visit within region

My/Our Holiday Review:

Just returned from the Bahia Tossa hotel, had a wonderful time.

Hotel was very clean, excellent accommodation. Balcony overlooked the front part of the hotel which we thought was going to be a busy road, thankfully it was totally the opposite. One of the main roads into Tossa, of which there are only 3, ran past the opposite side of the hotel so we were happy with our view of the mountain and the houses dotted around. Did not attend the evening hotel entertainment as we were quite happy doing the tourist bit around Tossa de Mar, it seemed to be more family orientated rather than for couples of our age. Daytime entertainment was excellent, catering for both adults and kids.

Thoroughly recommend lazing around the mini pool rather than the main free form pool especially if you do not have kids. You can actually swim in the mini pool without fear of being jumped on or bashed with a lilo, or though there was the odd one or two but very rarely. A couple of kids came and had a look and thought it looked like the VIP area of the hotel. The rule of non reservation of sun beds does not seem to be upheld though!!! Pool games played in the mini pool in the afternoon, never seen so many blokes (and women) eagerly awaiting the arrival of Jacqueline (Entertainment Rep)"Is nice, yes?" (Catchphrase that seems to have been adopted

All in all, had a brilliant holiday in and out of the hotel!!

The hotel was very clean and the air-con was very welcome as it was august 04.Although the hotel was very busy because it is big and has several pools and bars there was always somewhere to go to if you wanted quiet but on the other hand if you wanted fun and games that was there for you.

The resort of Tossa was very charming, nice shops and the old town was very pretty with plenty to sightsee.

Just got back...Hotel great, no complaints. Its only a 10 minute stroll to the town and beach, were you can get water taxis to different beaches, try Santa Christina, relax and have a swim ,he waters lovely.

Also try TOMS Steakhouse (Toms & Tracys) as you approach the beach its on the left as you walk over the ballastrade bridge.Best meal we had in town.

Go and explore the Castle and its lovely winding streets, go and have a pizza or some Sangria, in the beauitful positioned bar near the top, with stunning views across the bay and town.

Youll love Tossa if your not into late nights and English Bars. Enjoy.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Just returned today from this hotel. We had a very relaxing holiday but came home exhausted as we were on the first floor right above the capri bar which hosts the nightly entertainment don't think there was any sound proofing as you heard everying especially at 1 in the morning when we were trying to get to sleep and all you could here was chairs getting scraped across the floors and pool balls getting bounced of the floor.

Food was pretty cr*p all we ate was chips every night they didnt really cater for the plain folk or especially children i totally agree with the review before were the bread was left over from breakfast time. Breakfast is much better than evening meals.

Hotel Cleanliness was not very good was supposed to get sheets changed every 2 days we had ours changed 3 times in 2 weeks after complaining twice i think our maid was on a go slow. even stripped beds ourselves and left the sheets on the floor as a hint for her to change them but it didnt work she picked the sheets up and put them back on the bed so we complained to our Thomson Holidays s rep and received a bottle of wine.

apart from that we had a great holiday but wouldnt really class this as a platinum hotel. don't usually moan about holidays but going to a platinum you expect better.

The Hotel Golden Bahia de Tossa was lovely. The rooms were quite spacious and very nicely decorated. The pool area is also lovely.

The food and entertainment were the only disappointments of this hotel. Every night you have to have chips as there is no other potato option and some of the meat was raw. Generally the bread at dinner was stale as was probably left over from breakfast. Breakfast time is on until 10.30am but from 9.45am onwards the bread has run out amongst other things so get in early.

Generally tho, a very nice hotel. The resort is very very quiet. Not what we were expecting at all. Very nice and traditional tho.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We have not visited Spain since we were teenagers! Tossa was recommended to us because it still has some charm and a village atmosphere.

The hotel is in the new part of Tossa. It is immaculate and the staff very friendly and efficient. We had a room on the fifth floor and there was some noise from our neighbours but no where near as bad as the earlier reviewer experienced. There was no sign or sound of a cleaner on our floor until after 10 o'clock!

The weather was a bit rainy but the day we went to Barcelona it was very hot. This was the only Thomson Holidays 's trip which we took and it was good, though we would have liked time to explore the Cathedral inside (only 15 minutes allowed to walk around outside only!) and less time in the Ramblas (3 hours!).

The hotel's nightly entertainment was dodgy but the 4 Tops tribute band were very good. We were pleased that the hotel put a big TV by the pool bar for the England game. A nice relaxing holiday, we would like to try more of the Platignum hotels if they are as good as this one.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Just got back from spending a week in this hotel. Came back from holiday more exhausted than I left. Why - the hotel bedrooms have the thinnest walls I've ever come across in my life, we're talking paper thin walls. The result - could hear guests on the floors above and below us and either side. What could I hear? people talking (clearly, word for word) laughing, coughing, singing, having s*x, on the toilet, opening drawers and wardrobes, walking around the room, scraping chairs, I could go on... Made sleep or even relaxing in your room for a couple of hours impossible.

After eventually dozing off, was woken EVERY morning by the chambermaids who seemed to start cleaing rooms as noisly as possible from 06:30 onwards. Considering this is meant to be a holiday resort, you cant even enjoy a lie in. All we could hear lying in bed was the cleaners throwing furniture around, scraping chairs across the floor, hoovering and singing. the fact the walls are so thin meant that if the cleaners were cleaning the room above you, you could still hear them.

went back to the Costa Brava for the 1st time in 10 years and it was excellent. couldnt have chosen a better resort than Tossa, and couldnt have chosen a better hotel than the Mare Nostrum.

the staff were so friendly and would have done anything for you. we were on a B&B basis and let me tell you the breakfast was great as they catered for all nationalities, so it wasnt just croissants and fruit. we like to go walkies and see all the sights and you wont be disappointed with the castle and lighthouse the views from up there are stunning. for lazy gits the tourist train runs up to it all day. the bars and restaurants around the castle (especially Villa Vella) are awfully expensive, so if on a budget, try walking along the little back streets for much better value. Tracy and Toms Steakhouse just along from the statue of Minerva is a great place, brilliant steaks and great service as is the Chinese Restaurant Pagoda just along from the Mare Nostrum. a great place for a cuppa is the Bar Solarium just at the back of the chinese, the wee guy who runs it is so friendly.

we went with Thomson Holidays and although the Rep was based a 5 minute walk away, you knew exactly when she would be there and she was so helpful(a surprising change) they do live up to there no 1 status.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We had the misfortune to stay in this hotel recently, booked via gotospain, and was appaled with the cramped conditions and food at the hotel. Our stay was from 16/7 - 25/7 for half board accomodation.

The hot food was always cold, undercooked or overcooked, all the meat resembled shoe leather whilst the cold food was always insipid and totally lacked immagination. How one could possibly eat in this hotel is totally beyond me. The rooms were like shoeboxes with a shower which always overflowed due to it being just basically a sink in the floor with an ill fitting curtain around. We also had a colony of ants in our room and suspect that most of the hotel did, judging from the insect repelants that the cleaning ladies had on their trolleys. The lift was out of action for about a third of our time and as my husband has a heart complaint the climb up to floor three was something of a worry. The staff were indifferent - apart from Francesco, the head waitress and the night porter.

A totally horrific stay and possibly the worst hotel in Spain and would advise anyone to steer clear
