My/Our Holiday Review:

The food was mainly for the Germans, Dutch & Eastern Europeans, although plentyful it was very bland. it did not help you had to queue for up to 1/2 hour to get a table. The room was very basic and very small for the 3 beds that we needed, but the maids came every day and cleaned the room and made up the beds. We found the best local British style pubs were the Drunken Duck (staff very friendly and funny and the food was very good) and the Station Bar where the staff were also friendly and the food decent.

Overall we would not go back to this hotel as the food was poor and in the end we had to eat out because of this .

My/Our Holiday Review:

Myself and my husband was looking for a cheap hotel but all inclusive as it was our anniversary present, so we had a look on the internet and found this deal, it said"all inclusive 3* hotel with big swimming pool, jacuzzi, all rooms facing the beach, snacks all day, drinks and right on the beach" we thought great sounds just what we wanted.

when we got to the hotel we had to wait for our room to be cleaned, but that was ok it was only a couple of hours, so we had a look around.

when we got into our room we had the room facing the railway track and a little garden that you could not sit out inas you had the road there as well, but we thought we could cope with this.

the swimming pool had tiles hanging from the sides and the bottom and was very cold i would not put my child in it.

the juccuzzi did not work the whole time we was there.

if you like the same food for breakfast, lunch and tea, this is the place to go, as they batter everything, the food was the same every day.

the location of the hotel was very good as it was right on the beach.

they have a lot of trouble with mosquitos and i myself was bitten several times, so take plenty of repelent with you.

the snacks were, hotdogs, chips and pizza. they do have a fresh cold water tank so you can have plenty of water.

if you want coffee or tea in the morning you have to wait til breakfast as nothing is switched on till 8am.

if you like a late night drink this is not the place as come 11.30pm the bar is shut and at 12midnight all the lights go of to the hotel.

there is not much way of entertainment, we had to make our own, but the children have a mini disco for half hour at 8.30 everynight and then at 10.30 you have a game of bingo (1) which takes 1o mins, so this place is not recommended for familys with children as it is very boring for them.

PLEASE take your wellies, if it rains it rains and the only way out is under the underpaths of which was up to our knees when we was there, so when we left they opened up the railway line to us so we could climb over the railway line and over a 4 foot wall with our cases and everything.donot if you are a pensioner have the top floor as the lifts are always getting flooded and they tend to close them to everyone.

i would not recommend this hotel to no one unless you are garanteed brilliant weather as they close everything, we was there for 8 days and we had 3 days of sun and the rest was raining, so we was stuck inside, it can get very noisy at night time when everyone is going to bed.

there are a few english bars that do food I.E the rovers return and the robin hood, the robin hood have kareoke and do breakfast all day long.

apart from this the holiday was ok for resting but not for the peace and quiet. but lots of friendly people there.if we had not met a group of people there we would of come home early, you have to make your own entertainment.

Well what Can I say to sum up this short break with a few friends from work? DONT GO TO THIS HOTEL!!!!!

Staff were rude & nonchelant, spoke very little English, no entertainment, jaccuzi wasnt working & area around the pool was a health & safety minefield! The bar closed at 11.30pm & if you had finished or not the bar staff just turned the lights off leaving you in complete darkness.

The food was very repetative & if you like chips you will be ok, food very bland & on occassions we could only tell what it was by the cartoon picture that the kitchen staff had placed next to the offensive item.If you complained the staff would just prattle on in Spanish right in front of you (obviously taking the mick) & then laughing histericaly in your face, they seem to have forgotten that it is us the paying customer that is keeping them employed!

The only saving grace was that the rooms were clean & we had a beach view. The position of the hotel directly on the beach would have been great if the beach didnt resemble the colour & texture of a cat litter tray.

The resort facilities closed at 6pm so boat trips & general tourist stuff was limited, quite a good market & weather was excellent, all in all if you have saved your hard earnt cash to catch a short all inclusive break then spend it elsewhere !!!!!

My/Our Holiday Review:

We were just looking for a cheap week away in the sun and this was exactly what we got. We booked with Fleetway Travel, flew with Ryan Air and took the transfers offered by Fleetway.

Having read the reviews on here we were a little concerned, however, we needn't have been. Everything went really smoothly, flights were OK, transport was OK, reps were OK, hotel was good and even the food was good! Heard some horror stories from other guests concerning taxi fares from the airport and I'm glad we took the transfers offered (£20 per person return).

The hotel is actually on the beach (which is very fine stones - not quite sand) which was very nice. Only 4 rooms overlook the beach and the rest are all facing inwards towards the evening entertainment area or outwards across the road. Rooms had aircon in all of them which was very nice (and needed!) and I understand from the other guests that the bathrooms were being updated from one side of the hotel to the other - we had a lovely new bathroom.

We had no problems with the staff - they all spoke enough English to know exactly what we were talking about. The pool is a bit on the small side but you're right on the beach so it's not really an issue. The entertainment was all "in-house" stuff by the two children's organisers. It wasn't really up to much, but to be honest we weren't expecting 5* entertainment so it wasn't exactly a surprise. There wasn't much else to do of an evening - hotels around all welcome non-guests, however.

Hotel was very clean, our room was cleaned every day and the bed linen changed regularly too. I found the "All Inclusive" option very good. Food was plentiful as was the alcohol. There are chips every day, but besides these there is a salad section, soup and rolls to start, 3 or 4 meat dishes, pasta and lasagna - we really did think the food was rather good compared to other AI holidays we have had. There were water coolers available for guests to help themselves too and also a coffee area was available with tea/coffee/hot drinks for guests to help themselves to.

All in all we were very impressed with the holiday we got for the price we paid. I had heard horror stories from other guests as to both Fleetway and Ryan Air, but take them as you find them, as we had no problems anywhere with anyone! Would have no qualms staying at this hotel again, however, I think the surrounding area let it down. Would go somewhere - not so much livelier - but with more going on.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We are a couple on our first anniversary and a birthday (wife's), too. We were a little concerned at the lack of reviews on this accommodation and had to rely on what little there was including a hotel owned website. Don't be fooled by the website, it looks worse than it is in the photos.

Firstly we booked through fleetway travel via the internet and although the price seemed fine - we did find it had lots of hidden problems and the worst being it was Ryan Air carrying us, NEVER again. Never having flown with them before we were prepared to give it a go despite not knowing who the carrier was to be until the documents arrived 10 days after booking.

The hidden extras were lack of baggage allowance - we were 6kg over (we are used to having 20kg each not 15kg) that cost us close to £30. Ended up leaving stuff on the return journey to avoid the excess baggage charges Ryan air are keen on charging. We did opt for the taxi transfer rather than coach transfer but it wasn't quite as cheap as was quoted by the travel agent - however we did learn through experience that the best option when travelling by taxi was to get the "non airport" taxi services - ie go past the white ones and opt for the private hires further up the line of cars. It should cost less than 40 euros (for the 35km journey) but the airport ones charge a fixed fee of 50 euros. The return journey was also done by private taxi and was correct.

As far as Ryan Air is concerned we did fine the ticket less airline to be a farce as we were at the end of the queue for nearly 2 hrs despite being there an hour earlier than required. And if you are unlucky to be over the allowances you have to go and pay at a separate desk and then rejoin the queue. Further when we did get to go to boarding we were sent to the wrong gate as they had changed it without telling anyone. No seats allocated either so it's an "it's a knockout" style "free for all"

Very expensive food on board too £15 for two baguettes and two drinks. Take your own is our advice.

On arrival at Girona airport the fleetway rep was precious little help - and all we wanted to know was where we went for the taxis.!!!!!!

On to the accommodation "The Amaraigua Hotel" formerly known as the Santa Susanna Hotel - supposedly three star but doubt it. First of all I must say that the Spanish Management team here are at best abysmal. Most do not understand English which I find very strange considering that this hotel is primarily for British guests.

They showed a distinct lack of concern over major health and safety matters especially during the instances of "accidents" here. In less than 7 days we witnessed one head injury requiring 8 stitches, one severely lacerated ankle (down to the bone) due to a dodgy drain cover, one fatal heart attack, one young child sucked into the Jacuzzi filtrations system, and a gashed wrist. All without exception met with derision and lack of concern by Spanish management. The first aid kit such as it was a disgrace - under lock and key and never available, no operational first aiders - no-one - not even the lady who tragically lost her husband was allowed to use the hotel phone.

Putting that aside - if you haven't already decided not to go here - the room we had was great small, but comfortable - a great sea and beach view - the best room in the hotel - ROOM 214.... Bathroom small, small bath with shower - so if you like baths don't go here. Hot water is a bit hit n miss too. Air conditioning brilliant.

Some rooms are infested with ants, our room floor wasn't swept or mopped for three days despite complaints, similarly the basin and toilet weren't cleaned either and toilet rolls ,must be in short supply. If you are travelling with a family opt for a family room as many rooms are very small - some people couldn't get into bathroom or onto balcony or terrace without moving furniture. If you have teenagers don't go here either - they will be bored silly within 48 hours.

The All Inclusive option was ok but have had better - always plenty of variety, but chips every day - we only had one other potato option in 7 days. The Spanish could learn a thing or two from the Tunisians and Turkish. Drinks although plentiful and good measures are served in plastic cups ---- prefer glasses - I can understand around the pool but indoors and the communal entertainment area at night NO. The entertainment for adults at night is poor - we went out most nights - the mini-disco for kids is Ok and they seemed to enjoy it - the three girls who entertain have a very hard job to satisfy all but could be much better given more to work with. My impression about this hotel is that it is run with a very tight budget to the detriment of its customers. You cannot get a coffee before 8am when the restaurant opens for breakfast and the bar shuts at 1130pm without fail. Snacks aren't available after 6pm. Don't be fooled by the Parrot show either - what show!!!!! An opportunity for them to con you out of 10 euros for a photo taken without seeing it first..!

Its only redeeming feature in my opinion is its location literally on the beach - no roads to cross, very close to the best range of bars some 4-5 English ones - The Robin Hood and Rovers Return very good and always lively. The Black Bull is quieter - the Legends pub is good too and all serve Stella, John Smiths and Fosters. All do breakfasts and good food. All very congenial as well. Along the front are the shops and usual tut type tourist goods.

Its about an hour to Barcelona from Malgrat railway station (about 15mins walk form hotel) and costs 5.70 euros return and takes you right to Playa de Catalunya - the heart of Barcelona and only a hop skip and a jump to La Rambla with street entertainers and fine café bars and restaurants. At the end of this is the port area - A very fine city and worth a days visit. Marineland is apparently very good too if the kids like the water and you get good weather.

The weather was brilliant about 28 degrees on average fine and sunny with only one day of cloud, but still very warm.

Overall my advice Go to Spain by all means - Go to Costa Brava too just pay the extra and get some quality, don't travel Fleetway, don't travel Ryan air, don't go to this hotel.

We made the best of it and had great fun with Nick and Bekka, Lorriane and Ian, so cheers guys hope we keep in touch

me,my boyfriend & kids aged 4 & 7 only just got back last week and we loved it,the hotel spotless. one thing i must say about our room,be careful when u get out of shower, the floor is VERY SLIPPEY! (i found it quite funny when my boyfriend slipped though,no serious injury!)

the food was nice,im normally picky,we went half board & they even did champayne at breakfast! cheap stuff, but still, its the thought that counts. kids club round the pool was xcellent, always getin the kids to join in,face paintin, crafts, pool games ect.

hotel entertainment was fun, dont sit near the front or u will be dragged up to do embarrising things (we certainly learnt our lesson!) and win cheap champayne. one more thing,it will be worth investing in a translation book, almost everyone speaks a different language, and its not english!

brilliant holiday though, would definatly go back.oh,and no need to take a HAIRDRYER,they come already installed in bathroom.

had an absolute ball. ( 9 of us in party and all enjoyed.) Hotel was very very clean and entertainment fine if you wanted it. In the first week i hated the food but was one of nine that complained. By the end of the second week everyone was complaining. This may be due to the fact that there are vegetarians in our party and we take offence to ham in the veggie soup and veal in the cous cous!!!!When pointed out to the chefs they smiled and changed the label. Fortunately food was cheap at the station pub( 3 doors down) and we could get a good meal. However we paid for half board and its the first time I have lost weight on hols!!!

All said, what a fab place. Quick flight from uk. Kids aged 8 to 14 had a great time in sea. Very rough and very shelved but all good swimmers. Not great beach for young kids but fab if older.Lovely market and very family friendly. Dont go if you are after great nightlife but definitely go if you have a family. Been to lots of places but loved Montagut for a very happy 2 weeks!!!!

this is the first time we have been on a hotel based family holiday. we had the best time ever and would definately go back and recommend to others. the hotel has been refurbished this year and was clean and modern, the staff were friendly and absolutely brilliant with the children.

the food was plentiful and lots to choose from and the entertainment was o.k. santa susannah itself was clean and lots to do. the children did not like the man-made beach as the water was quite deep as soon as you got in, so we spent most of our time by the pool which although it wasn't a huge pool it was never crowded.

went to barcelona on the train to see the stadium which was o.k. train fares cheap, definately worth making your own way there, the trip offered by the holiday company was expensive and to be honest i would have been disappointed if i had spent out that much money.

definately the place to go if you have young children as the staff at this hotel should be commended on the work they put in looking after the children.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Hotel, reception and pool areas are all impressive, bedrooms are Ok and not too cramped for three.

En-suite was a little tired but like all of the hotel was kept very clean.

Hotel staff are friendly and efficient, the enertainment staff were very good and offer plenty of activities (want it or not) for adults and kids.

Sunbeds are a problem, the hotel booklet asks you not to reserve sunbeds and then wander off for hours at a time, but this is exactly what happens. I complained on our first full day that their were no free beds at 9am yet only a few people were using the pool facilities. The staff offered to let us have some beds from the store as long as we did this secretly, I couldn't get them to understand that I didn't expect them to fetch me sunbeds but that I was questioning their policy printed in their guest booklet. They then told me that you can reserve a sunbed as long as it isn't before 8am and proceeded to display a makeshift sign at the pool with words to this effect for a couple of days.

There are 300 sunbeds and when full the hotel has 900 guests!

So, sadly we were forced to adopt the 'when in europe, do as the europeans do' stance, this entailed desperately trying to get one of us out of bed to run down and selfishly reserve 3 sunbeds at 8am, you then go back to bed or go for breakfast and eventually meander out to the pool later in the day.

Food: Breakfast very good, evening meal OK and occasionally poor. There is not a lot of other options to eating at the hotel as Santa Susannah has virtually no independant bars or restaurants and visit Malgrat at your peril.

The hotel meal times are strictly adhered to, hold onto your plate if you are close to the end of a sitting!

Train service is excellent, the station is just over the road from the hotel and day trips to Barcelona, Girona and the Dali museum at Figures are all worthwhile.

The local boat service is also good, it picks you up on the beach and stops at all the resorts along the coast, we had a pleasent trip up to Tossa de Mar which has a lovely old town with lots of Tapas bars and restaurants which is a real contrast to Santa Susannah.

My daughter loved the holiday because it had all the necessary requirements, overall a good holiday.

My family and i went to santa susanna 4 may 2006 for 1 week we stayed at the aqua hotel ona brava as you walked in the reception area was very big and spacious very highly polished . we thought great!

reception was very slow it took about 20 minutes to be served we got our key and went to our rooms the rooms are quiet small but are once again clean the bathroom was not as good not up to the usual 4 star standard not even a 3 star .

the room was fitted with built in wardrobes and you needed to have strenght to open and close them they were so stiff.

the food on the evening was all catered for the spanish french and german my family and i were really disopointed nearly every dish had fish in the resturant was buffet service it was really busy on the weekend and plenty of variety of food if you like fish and continental food! when the monday came not any variety in food the hotel only had a few british people in if you got children well the entertainment is dreadfull its a magic show or comedy type show which starts at 10.pm for a maximum of 1 hour. the childrens club in the day for the children was even worse all the girl who was running the club knew to do was paint. my children were bored in ten minutes of that .

if you want to use the indoor pool well its a charge of 6 euros eachper session.

the beach was a pebble beach every where in santa susanna and the kids hated it you cant make sand castles and it kills your feet also the dust of the sand marked all our clothing and belive me plenty of dust. to eat out the food was not good we went to the riveria hotel and sat out side i had a long hair with scurf stuck in my lunch and the kids food was burnt to a crisp the waiter was realy unfriendly and made us most unwelcome most residents in this resort had trouble understanding english. the rep was useless she booked us on a trip and gave us the wrong location so we missed our coach she told us we could have lunch in the hotel the day before departure due to breakfast being served at 8 am and our coach pick up time back to the airport was 7.30 am so when we went down for lunch the hotel refused. reception not at all helpfull .the pool area outside the hotel was nice not heated though and the waiter in the resturant likes to try and rip us off . cant fault the hotel for clenliness .

My/Our Holiday Review:

Stayed at this hotel 20th-27th August.

Arrived at hotel 11:45am but were unable to get keys to room until 1pm so this could be worth noting if you are on an early morning flight. Not a problem for us although some people may not be too happy if they've been travelling most of the night.

On arrival we noticed how spacious the reception area was. I was very impressed with our room - much more spacious than any I've stayed in before (2 double beds) although the view wasn't one of the best.

Pool area very clean and well kept although I did encounter a few "petty" rules and regulations eg. don't move your sunbed or you will get told to move it back! don't go into the pool bar barefoot or you will be asked to put shoes on!. Now for the sunbeds - yes the dreaded sunbed scramble. If you went down early (before 8:30am) to put towels on beds you were expected to stay with the beds - anyone caught leaving beds with towels on unattended before the above time would receive at letter stating that they would be removed by the management although this threat was never carried out. Plenty going on around the pool during the day eg Aerobics, waterpolo etc.

The food in the restaurant was excellent but bear in mind that they cater for all nationalities. All I can say about this hotel is that it's fantastic and anyone would find it difficult to find fault. When we went there was quite a few spanish families staying there and we found that the entertainment was geared to them although this didn't bother us too much. On our first night we had a terrible downpour and thunderstorm and all of the gound floor in the hotel was flooded and the pool area was a scene of destruction but I can't praise the stay enought for the way they coped - the day after everything was back to normal.

Now for the resort -----

Unfortunately I wasn't impressed with Santa Susanna/Malgrat. SS is just a collection of hotels (Ona Brava being the best by far) Malgrat is tacky. Sorry to be so blunt but I've been to far nicer places.

The Ona Brava is first class but unfortunatly for us it's in the wrong resort.

Barcelona is easy to get to by train (station just across the road) I would recommend the OnaBrava as a base if you want to get out and about.

The beach isn't much to shout about and I would consider it totally unsafe for children and non swimmers because it slopes down really quick.

On saying that we had a great time and met some lovely people.

A BRILLIANT HOTEL BUT IN THE WRONG RESORT.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Unfortunately not a great stay at a hotel that appears to be highly rated by most guests.

Food was pretty good until we found a MAGGOT in our sons' food and then iron filings in the dessert from the can openers on another day. Many of the dishes are fish, which can limit your choices on some evenings. Futhermore, if your children are fussy then there is virtually no choice at all for them except for chips.

Sunbeds are limited. The only way to get a sunbed by the kids pool is to be down there before 8.00am. Previous guests comment on the hotels policy of removing towels from sunbeds that are resevered. However, this policy no longer appears to be enforced, as all the beds are gone before 9.00 when the pool offically opens. When instructed to remove towels ourselves, we suffered physical and verbal abuse. It seems pretty pointless going on holiday if you have to get up earlier than you do at home and miss breakfast with your family just to get a sunbed.

On the positive side the hotel is cleaned to a high standard and the family rooms are a good size.

The entertainment team work very hard and contributed to making the holiday enjoyable for our children.

I guess we may have been unlucky with the food incidents. However, the issues regarding the sunbeds and the personal abuse we suffered could have been easily avoided if a stronger stance had been taken.

his hotel is fabulous the food was excellent and also the staff, the cleanliness was first rate with a maid service everyday.Only fault would be the sunloungers at the pool, even though there is a sign saying you can not reserve the beds before 9am all beds were taken before this, with hotel staff quite aware.Train station is across the road and 5.50euros return to Barcelona is money well spent as this is an amazing city and only 60 mins from santa sussanna.

The resort is quiet and relaxed but walk along the prom into Malgrat for more lively entertainment, not the nicest of places a bit like blackpool but not the worst.Every evening market stalls set up along the prom and stay open until the early hours, these are lovely and buzzing every evening.Water world in Lloret is only 30 mins away on a free bus outside the hotel and a lovely day out.Prices for drinks in this part of santa sussanna were average but could be found alot cheaper in Malgrat,a few more bars and restaurants would be nice in santa sussanna but not to spoil the quality of the resort.

Would definitely visit again as this was a quality hotel.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Thoruoghly enjoyed our holiday in this hotel, deserves its 4 star rating! Meals excellent, with a good choice of food - the head waiters did a brilliant job making sure that everyone was seated quickly! Only tip, in high season, wait until later for your dinner when it is quieter. Rooms were good sized and cleaned daily (albeit sometimes a bit late in the day), hotel overall well kept, entertainment a bit of a hit or a miss but don't miss the aqua aerobics in the morning, a great workout and a laugh too! Sunbeds difficult to come by unless you go at 8am and stay there until the security man who removes the towels leaves, about 9.30am!

Indoor sports center was excellent and we paid for 2 weeks use at the start of the holiday, which worked out a lot cheaoer.

Despite what the Reps say (don't let them put you off), it is very easy and cheap to visit Barcelona, going by train, which takes you right into the center. The Thomas Cook tour to Barcelonsa was good too, letting us see most of the sights and with time for shopping too.

Resort quiet, which suited us fine but you will have a bit of a walk for British bars! Tuesday market right outside the hotel and every evening there a lots of little stalls set up along the promenade. All in all, a great holiday.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We have just returned from this hotel - not what we would expect from a 4* - if you are looking for air conditioning - forget it - says in the brochure "individually controlled" - by this read "controlled by the management" it did not help that they took 7.5 hours to find two of our party a room not a good start and that was after a 2 hour journey from the airport - should have been 45 minutes - but as there were only eight of us going to Santa Susanna Thomas Cooke decided in their wisdom we would enjoy a trip round the other resorts!!

If you are looking for a holiday spending time round the pool - forget it - unless you are willing to get up at 6.30 am each morning to put your towels out - and then watch a good many of the sunbeds have no occupants until late in the afternoon!! On our "lazy" days [we usually spend one day out and about and the next being lazy]we went to the beach - but be prepared to pay the price 4 sunbeds 2 sunshades 24 euros!! The hotel is in a very quiet part, and yes there is life 15 minutes away, but it goes from one extreme to the other - very loud and very busy - think this is an area to definitely to book mid-season. The area isgreat for getting out and about to see other parts - the railway station is just across the road the trains are very frequent, plus you can take boat trips and the small train that goes up into the old part of Santa Susanna is a must -

all in all not a bad holiday - we made the best of a bad job - but will never book with Thomas Cook again the bus transfer and room delay were only the tip of the iceberg for us - beware if you are even a little over weight coming back you will be charged - it cost us as a party over £70 - and we were not even given the option of rearranging our luggage - we were well under on our hand luggage - so be warned!! Suffice to say the only people we saw having to go and pay for being over-weight were in the Thomas Cook lines - another way to make money!!

Arriving after a 4hr flight delay meant a long journey in the dark to our hotel .1st.impressions were "what an awful gloomy reception area"this really was the worst part of the building considering the hotel was only 3 yrs old it looked as if the architect had changed his mind 4 times!Rooms were in the same dark wood.

The morning came and gave us time to explore. We were pleasantly surprised at the flat modern promenade into Malgrat [and shops]and to find the trainstation across the road trains seemed to be every half hour either way.Bike hire outside another Aqua hotel further down the road , [the Aqua hotel Marina which i must say was a great deal brighter than the Onabrava after doing a tour of it] was a plus for my young friend.

Pool area at the Onabrava was good but sunbeds looked v.grubby![It was actually too hot for me to sit out anyway]The worst part of my holiday was i didn't feel to have a good choice. The Onabrava food was mainly meat dishes [including rabbit]Not much fish!Thre were lots of German and Netherland guests so i expect the food was with them mainly in mind.[Our rep told us there were only 70 English guests although the hotel was packed]Lots of smoking going on also detracted from my enjoyment.

On the entertainment scene there were machines for the children[and adults!] 2 p.c's an indoor pool and gym [6 euro charge]When we were there there was a customized car fair all along the promenade and stalls set up every night along the promenade selling all kinds of things [hugely enjoyable] The ambience of the resort was really good .On the last morning we had a good excursion out on the miniature train [ 3 euros]which took us all around the front and back of S.S. up and up into the hills where some lovely homes were the train stopping regulrly to let passengers film the views.A real value for money trip!

Stayed at the Onabrava for five days following 3 days sightseeing in Barcelona.

Arrived by train from Barcelona and found that hotel was 100 metres from train station. Very easy to access as Santa Susanna is very flat and has a wide tiled walkway running its length. Electric powered trains did not cause any disturbance at resort. Hotel is obviously new and is immaculate. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms very clean and serviced daily. Food, served buffet style, was first rate with plenty of choice and enough to feed an army. Hotplates continually refreshed with some food cooked within view.

Pool area very clean and comfortable with plenty of loungers and seating.

Hotel has sauna, inside pool, gym, fitness room etc which attract additional local payment of 6 Euros per person per day.

Santa Susanna consists of Hotel complexes with small shops attached, very limited 'outside'eating places which were not required given the quality and quantity of the hotel food.

The resort is clean and ideal for a relaxing break with entertainment on at most hotels most nights. Malgrat is

approximately 20 minutes walk and is not in our opinion as modern or relaxed, more Blackpool'ish.

Hotel could be used as a base to explore area as trains are frequent and cheap, 5 euros return to Barcelona (60 mins away)

Don't miss the opportunity to explore Barcelona, fabulous city.

Aquahotel Onabrava is a First Class 4* hotel, very impressive and beautiful Hotel complex, inside and out, only 3 yrs old.We were there 2nd and 3rd week Aug 2004.It is situated at the quieter end of Santa Susanna resort well within easy reach of nearest liveley resort of Malgrat de Mar(15-20min walk or 1.5 E rtn on train) Good cheap transport facilities close-by i.e. Train and Bus give easy access to all other Costa Brava resorts Llorett de Mar, Estartit, Barcelona etc..

Having some experience in foreign travel and hotel variety we read all the reviews before going and were very pleasantly surprised to find this Hotel Lived up to its excellent name in all respects, accomodation, cleanliness, provides excellent facilities for disabled or those with mobility problems.

The efficiencey, courtesy of staff, food and dining facilities were all of extremely high quality with an excellent and varied menu catering for all tastes from continental cuisine to British tastes,Vegetarian, and those with special Dietary reqts.

The hotel has a very varied daily and evening entertainments programme for both adults and kids, with an excellent Enertainment Team (Jim,Anna and the gang)The early morning Aquafit sessions at the pool to music were excellent and very popular.

Daily entertainment varied from Kids club and competitions to Football,Archery, Water Polo, .22 shooting,Table Tennis, Dance Classes(Meringue,Mambo etc..) ,or you could just laze your day beside a beautiful pool with bar or waiter service as you pleased. There is also an inside pool and gymnasium at additional cost, book this for the fortnight at start of your holiday and you get it 1/2 price, normally 6 E/day,you'll get it for 3E.

The evening entertainment has a bit of a continental flavour, tho some very good acts there were the odd not so hot,a Pianist plays regularily on a Grand Piano in the foyer after evening meals while you relax with a Drink,Cocktail or Coffee before the evening enertaiment starts.

This end of the resort seems to feature the more exclusive hotels hence a bit quieter, although its within easy reach of Malgrat and Pineda pubs/clubs at night, or you can enjoy bars and entertainment at surrounding hotels, along with the regular evening markets along the promenade, a daily market also every Tuesday. The Beach is accessed by regular underpasses which go under the main road (Road and Rail far enough away from the hotel not too create noise)The sandy beach is enormous with beautiful outlook to the Med, tho sand is a bit coarse.

We found it almost impossible to find any fault with this Hotel and holiday by Direct Holidays/My travel.

The Negatives if any ;

Late Flight Times from Glasgow outward and inward, My Travel could improve ? altho Onabrava now provide excellent hospitality facilities and luggage storage.

Maybe a few good pubs and restaurants would enhance this end of the resort, but dont spoil it with the Clubbing and Lager Set !

Some more Sun Beds for the Sun worshippers would help ease the demand in the morning, altho Onabrava are quite strict with the NO towels on the beds routine.

The Drinks prices and Wine are a wee bit pushy in the hotel, could improve.

Other than that folks, what a hotel and a nice resort with a very promising

future, absolutely excellent, go and enjoy with no reservation.

Good Luck !

This hotel is situated at the quiet end of Santa Susanna, just a short walk from the beach.

The hotel is beautifully presented and the staff are very freindly particulary the entertainment team. It is a very international hotel, which is reflected in the food and entertainment.

My children loved the kids club and in particular the mini disco.

The rooms have 2 double beds and a balcony, and a good sized bathroom.

Every evening there are market stalls along the promenade towards Malgrat, and on Tuesday there is the local market outside the hotel.

We really enjoyed several days out to barcelona. This year until September in barcelona there is 'The Forum' which is an international exibition a bit like the millenium dome, only better! There is a display about the chinese terrecota army that is unmissable.

Also take the ferry from Santa susanna beach to tossa de mar for a good day out.

We really enjoyed our 2 weeks here, but beware Malgrat is a downmarket Margate, tacky, loud and dirty, stick to the station end of this resort for a quiet holiday.

My/Our Holiday Review:

My husband and I have recently returned from a holiday at the Hotel Onabrava, a modern hotel in Santa Susanna. Booked a last minute deal and we weren't disappointed. This hotel is excellent. It is spotlessly clean and the staff are efficient, helpful, friendly and cheerful. Both management and staff are to be credited. Room, bathroom and balcony a good size. Breakfast excellent (with the exception of beverage machines, rather than fresh drinks, which were not particularly pleasant)dinner the usual buffet-style. Not great, but acceptable. Entertainment every evening, the usual Spanish-style stuff which we can take or leave but perfectly ok. My only slight quibble is the fact that the hotel has plenty of space but there is no "quiet" corner. Area round the swimming pool good. All in all, a very lively atmosphere and a "happy" hotel. Would go there again.

Regarding Santa Susanna, it is a small, modern resort with not much to do but it has a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. We chose it because of its proximity to Barcelona and felt that by staying by the sea but being near Barcelona we would have the best of both words - and we did. The station is across the road from the hotel and we went to Barcelona twice in a week. As mentioned in other reviews, the train is cheap, fast and clean and runs twice an hour. We would also recommend the boat that plies along the coast and up to Tossa del Mar, a very pretty resort. We also took the "train" round Santa Susanna which took us up into the hills above the coast.

All in all, a really good holiday, representing excellent value for money. We didn't want to come home.

Just returned from this hotel after a marvellous week. The hotel lives up to its 4 star rating. The accomodation is excelllent. The food is very good with wide choice to suit all tastes, the staff very helpful and attentive.

The entertainment is quite good and does have an international "feel". If you are looking for Bingo etc you wont find it here

Do take the small tourist trains which take you through the various resort areas. Very entertaining and at 3 euros excellent value for money.

The local train service to Barcelona and other coastal resorts is excellent. The Barcelona trip is 5.50 euros return and the trains run every 30 minutes. We travelled independently without problems despite tour reps dire warnings of pickpockets in Barcelona railway stations!!

In conclusion a good destination in a good resort in a first class hotel.

Where do we start what a hotel, just return this morning we all didnt want to leave. The hotel is amazing and would say it is worth more than the four stars it has.

The resort is fantastic, the little train (3 euros) up into the mountains is a must, you catch that down the road also there is one to malgrat that it good too. The trip to Barcelon is worth doing what a city, we went by train on our own only 5.40 euros return! bargain worth a visit. plenty to do at the hotel and the food there is lovely they cater for all and the staff are all so friendly. The first choice reps were first class too.

Overall it was a lovely holiday plenty to see and do and the resort is lovely especially at night with a nice stroll down the prom after your meal. We did a week there but we wish now we booked two. Best holiday we have ever been on. The hotel rooms are really nice you get shampoo and bubble bath,a comb, tissues, shower cap every day. The maids visit each day too. We all cant praise it enough its so cheap out there and the people are so friendly.

If you get chance hire the bikes they are a good laugh and gets you around! Malgrat is only a short walk away as is the beach. If you are looking for a lively holiday then you need to stay at Malgrat, if its a relaxing one the Onabrava hotel is the one.We are missing it already the Flamenco show at the hotel is good as is the beatles.

We most certainly will be returning in the near future. THIS HOTEL IS AMAZING AND LUXURY. The local market is a must too.

A good weeks holiday.

The accomodation is very good with provision for luggage storage and showering/changing for a late flight.

Barcelona, on the train, is a must. The metro in Barcelona is easy to use and efficient. This is, in my view, the best way to see Barcelona sights. A good guide book (The AA guide) is also very useful for opening times, metro station locations etc. The tourist booths in Barcelona are very helpful and supply maps of the city and metro. Also the dancing water fountains, I've forgotten the proper name, is also a spectacle and is accompanied by music, roundng off with Barcelona. We visited this on a tour, arranged through First Choice, and it takes place around 21:30 - 22:15 Friday, Saturday.

Tossa de Mar is also a good visit, by train and bus or ferry. The ferry service is efficient and is worth using to see the coast.

A out-of-season break on the cheap.

We flew from Bournemouth to Girona with Ryanair for £9.99 each way per person.

The hotel was also dirt cheap considering it was 4*. Find-Rooms offered loads of great deals so we only picked this one based on the reviews.

The hotel was nearly empty which meant we got a super room with a fantastic sea view.

Food was good and rooms clean.

Santa Susanna is a little odd with the new wide prom not actally being on the sea front.

There's a lot of camp sites along the sea front.

About 3/4 mile from our hotel was the end of the built up area and the start of a fabulous golden beach.

There's a station just across the road so easy for trains along the coast and into Barcelona.

April - the weather was mixed but when the sun came out it was lovely and warm.

Can't complain about anything for the price.

GOOD POINTS

Having booked this holiday independently we were pleasantly surprised with the standard of accomodation, rooms basic but clean, towels changed on a daily basis (if required).

Food was not to our liking (most of the time) we felt the European tourist was mostly catered for.

Entertainment staff were the hardest working we have ever seen and all very pleasant, likewise the staff at the pool bar also nice.

Swimming pool extremely clean and spacious and well looked after (pool attendant) there at all times.

BAD POINTS

The dreaded sunbeds!!!!!!!!.

I have went on quite a number of foreign holidays and encountered greedy people as far as sun beds are concerned but some people take the biscuit, at the Aqua Onabrava they even had ones for their infants (to change their nappies on no less).

We were arriving at 4 a.m. in the morning and was told we would have a cold meal in our room which was not there. On departure we had a late check out (11.30 p.m.)and had before arriving for our holiday asked if we could keep our room until 6p.m. this would not be a problem we were told. The day before we were due to depart I double checked with reception and was told that we were to be out by 10 a.m. as the hotel was fully booked, I would have accepted this had I been told at the time I asked it would depend on how busy the hotel was on the day of our departure. So word of warning don't believe everything they tell you.

GENERAL

Santa Susanna is a perfect place for a quiet holiday, but with the advantage of the train and Doffi Boats you really can make the most of the surrounding area and travel is very cheap.

The beach is a mixture of gravel and sand and the sea gets quite deep quite quickly.

All things considered we had a very nice time here and we would definately go back to this resort but maybe not for a few years.

I would just like to say hello again to Phil's mum and dad and also Paul and Lisa and hope that all went well in the end

All thing s considered we had a very nice time

This hotel is spotless. If you go half board and want to change your meals from dinner to lunch, that is not a promlem, you can do it anytime. The reception staff are very helpful. Our only downside is that the food is the exact same most days , and breakfast never changes. (The animation staff are very rude to the English, but cannot do enough for the French, German, Spanish etc.) All English spoken have complained, not just us. ) The hotel is ideally situated because it is close to the beach, shops and the train station is just 5 mins walk. It cost 6.20euros for a return ticket to Barcelona, DO NOT GET OFF WHEN THE LADY CALLS FOR METRO CHANGE!! wait until the last stop, the train cannot go anymore, and then turn left when you come out, just walk for about 10 mins and your in the centre of Barcelona. It is very beautiful and I would reccomend it. BUT: be very careful we were pick pocketed, along with a lot of other people. Do the aquarium, BIG sharks!!!! Do not eat on the Ramalis it is 4 times the price than in the resort. You have been warned!!!:

Weather is very changable, a bit like home really.!!! only warmer. bring a brolly. but dont let it worry you, you will still enjoy yourselves. This resort has a lot to keep you amused. eg. Marineworld (a must) Portaventura( 2.5 hours away but enjoyable) and of course the Neu Camp and the beautiful fountains!!! Enjoy bye.

The hotel was large, clean, well organised and the rooms were fine and the staff were helpful and polite (especially the restaurant staff). We found the meals great although they perhaps wouldn't suit British people unused to continental food. Each night the buffet is themed to a different country, German, Spanish, French etc they even had a British night however, this was the only night we didn't really enjoy the food! All the food was fresh and well presented. The hotel is a very short walk to the beach which is large and clean. Not really suitable for small children as there is a steep drop off into the sea and the waves are quite large. We would definately recommed taking the train into Barcelona (about 50 minutes). It is cheap, clean and frequent -don't listen to the reps when the say it is difficult they just want your money on the trips. The train station is a right turn out of the rear of the hotel and about 800 yards walk (five minutes). The train takes you right into the centre of Barcelona to the square where all the tour buses leave from. Highly recommend the trip to the Neu Camp as this was one of the highlights of our holiday. Marine Land was good for children. Barcelona Zoo was great!

Our only real complaint was the kids club at the hotel which was useless and no good for the under three's

My/Our Holiday Review:

Spent the school holiday week here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel is very bright, clean and well kept. Rooms not massive but adequate, with nice beds and bath/shower room. Towels changed daily and rooms thoroughly cleaned. We had an attractive view of the neighbouring hotel's pool area and the main promenade.

Food was varied and dining area clean and nicely decorated, if a wee bit cramped at times. Always had ;';specials' on - one night it was Serano ham on the carvery, another it was a wide range of Spanish sausages, another it was free liquers and Irish coffees etc. VBar in dining area was cheap. EVERY morning bar one we had unlimited champagne at breakfast! Bucks Fiz for breaky - the business!

Mostly German, Dutch, Spanish and French guests - very few British, which you may either like or dislike. Personally, I go on holiday in the hope of meeting all nationalities.

Locality was very quiet at night, but it was October. Malgrat - the neighbouring resort, is only ten minutes walk away and there are more bars, including a few British ones there. Favourites were The Swan, with Edinbugh man Lou Avenou in charge - very friendly and nicely decorated, The Ship, just opposite and left of the back of our hotel, very friendly and lovely staff, and the Rovers Return, with a zany staff who kept the fun going non-stop. Loads of very, very nice and friendly local pubs and cafes also - everyone who served us drink and food the whole week, were nothing short of perfect.

Rail station is only five minutes away and takes you to Barcelona [1 hour - 15 euros for the wife, son and I RETURN and goes right into the heart of the city], Calella [10 minutes - 6 euros for three returns], Blanes [10 minutes - 6 euros again - great Karting here] and a host of other small resorts, all within one hour's travel.

Barcelona open-topped bus was brilliant [44 euros for the three of us, hop-on/hop-off all day. Its only five or six euros dearer for a two day pass. Takes you all over the city and to Nou Camp. Stadium entry was circa. 20 euros for the three of us and was well worth it.

We'd like to see the resort again in a slightly busier time - early September perhaps - but not at peak times, when we are sure it must absolutely jump.

Nice stay in Santa Susanna, good entertainment if you go to other hotels as the Aquamarina seems to cater more for children. Its a good base if you want to get a train to Barcelona. It has a good beach and plenty of sun beds to hire, although we found it cheaper to buy a sun umbrella. The hotel is very clean and beds are comfortable. The rooms are a good size as are the bathrooms. But they are not very quite and you can hear your neighbours opening and shutting doors etc. Food not very warm and they seem to cater more for the Germans.A good size swimming pool and plenty of sunbeds. There are no tea making facilities or fridges in the rooms. But apart from that it was value for money. There are plenty of other places to eat and you can walk to Malgret in five minutes. You can stroll down the main street on an evening as it has little craft stalls and a nice atmosphere. Also there were no noisy drunks around. Not a bad stay but would have preferred better food.

just came back from santasuana and stayed in the aquamarina, the hotel was very clean, towels changed every day and sheets changed once a week, the food was great for adults but not for kids except for chips every night, the kids club was not that well organised and reception never knew what was going on with the kids club, compared to other hotels the night life in the hotel wasnt up to much, there is not much to to unless u go for days out i do recommend marineland for the kids the water park slides there r great, glad i went really enjoyed it but wouldnt go again unless all u want to do is relax by the pool all day.

Just got back from a week at the Aqua Marina hotel. The hotel itself is very clean and staff are very friendly and helpful.

There are mainly Spainish, German and French staying at the hotel so therefore the food selection is varied. There is plenty of food to choose from, however the food quality was average.

If you want a day by the pool, I suggest putting towels on sunbeds before 9.30am as they are all taken by 10am! The pool is really nice, there are a lot of sunbeds but this is a big hotel!

The entertainment was difficult to follow with the hotel catering for so many languages however some shows were entertaining.

The resort itself is very clean with a big market on Tuesday morning along the promenard and small market stalls every evening. There are a few pubs in Santa Susanna, not many though. There is the Ship Pub and Station Pub for British tourists and a few others along the way. Santa Susanna is a quiet resort but lovely!

The train station is 5mins up the road and takes you to various resorts aswell as Barcelona for next to nothing. Trains are on time and very clean. There are boat trips to Tosa and Blanes etc which make a great day out and a little train that takes you around Old Santa Susanna that seems to be popular in the evenings as the view of Santa Susanna strip is amazing!

All in all a good holiday!!!

My/Our Holiday Review:

What a great time we've just had!

The hotel is clean, safe and in a nice location. Every member of staff we met were friendly, helpful and polite!

The rooms are clean, bright and functional. The only complaint I have is that our bedding wasn't changed until day 11 of our 14 day holiday.

The buffet is what you would expect, something for everyone but nothing exciting. Certainally well presented and plenty of it!

The area is quite nice with a few local shops etc and a market outside the hotel on a Tuesday morning.

There are plenty of other shops, bars etc further along in the next resort which is easy walking distance.

The beach is ok but made up of sharp sand, my 3 year old didn't complain once though .. so that's a good sign!

We did a few trips out of the resort ourselves.. Marineland was fun, it's a water park suitable for younger children but has a few big rides for us mums and dads! There's a dolphin show there too.

We also went into Barcelona on the train a couple of times as the station's just up the road from the hotel. the trains are cheap and clean and on time!It only cost around £7 per adult!

The best day we had in Barcelona was spent using the roofless tourist buses, a little dear but great for us and the little one enjoyed it too!

We also went to the lovely botanical gardens at Blanes, we walked into town and then realised there's a bus from the station that would've saved us an hour long walk!

We hired a car for the day and went to visit Figueres where Salvidor Dahli lived and has a crazy museum .. a must if you love his work!

On the way back we stopped at Girona, a beautiful Moorish old town. Very photogenic, could've spent hours wandering around the old cobbled streets!

Finally we took a boat trip from the beach and got off at Tossa de Mar ... what a surprise that was! Totally beautiful,Moorish streets again and 'castle' on the beach to walk around and explore!

So there you have it. We had a lovely holiday, 10 days would've been enough as we'd exhausted everything and everywhere by the time we left.

I hope this has helped someone as much as the other reveiws helped me!

Have a great holiday! :-)

Just spent 2 weeks in this hotel we were not impressed at all. The food was always cold and uninviting had to fight your way to the tables. There was not enough room in the restaraunt people were crammed in like sardines. We tried all different times to go for meals but it did not make any difference some nights the queue would stretch from the restaraunt some 20mts.

Most of the quests were Spanish German or French not a lot of English. The pool area is badly laid out trouble getting into the pool by the shallow area because of two many sunbeds blocking the pool area.

Rooms were nice and clean the hotel in general was spotless.Entertainment was poor mainly for kids who never seemed to sleep. In our opinion this hotel is mainly for families not couples. The resort is spotless but not a lot to do few english bars try The Station Pub nice and friendly good snacks.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We booked this holiday through Globespan, Edinburgh. Flew from Edinburgh to Barcelona then on to the Aquamarina hotel in the resort of Santa Susanna via bus...approx one hour and a quarter.

On arrival, the hotel reception staff could not have been more helpful. It was a long day and we arrived at 21.35hrs but we were asked if we wanted something to eat, we would catch the restuarant and check in after eating.

The room had two double beds over looking the pool...fantastic, the only thing we realised, was that it was a pre noon sunshine balcony, which because of our needs was'nt suitable to us. When we asked reception if we could be relocated to the opposite side which got the afternoon sun until evening. Juan Antonio Nuñez, the reception manager was brilliant and accomodated our request.

Because of the reception staff...as a whole, they gave a brilliant start to our holiday.

The first week we were there, we had no problems in the restuarant. There was always a fresh supply of food, especially at the hot buffet area where a hot roast was available on most nights.

The variety of food was great, we were half board so had breakfast and evening meal most days. The restuarant staff were always going about clearing tables and relaying them with clean table clothes every time. Full marks to them, they must have had a long day, everyday.

Our second week got busier somehow and yes we did queue to get a table but everything was done as efficiently as possible.

The rooms were cleaned daily and there was never a shortage of clean towels or bed linen. The security of having cctv on each floor covering almost every area was also reassuring.

There was entertainment for all ages by the pool, during the day and in the evening in the entertainment centre.

During our stay we found the railway station invaluable. An 8 minute leisurely stroll and we could get the train to a variety of places. Calella, Pineda, Blanes and Barcelona where we spent two days, staying overnight in a hotel just of La Ramblas. Barcelona is a fantastic city and certainly in our case was hectic to do what we wanted to do. Again it was the Aquamarina hotel reception staff who helped us with everything we required to know.

In our opinion, the Aquamarine Hotel and its staff were excellent. Our holiday was excellent value and we would not hesitate to go back to the Aquamarine Hotel.

Thank you to everyone, especially the reception staff. We applaud you!

My/Our Holiday Review:

We stayed at this hotel during the half term week.It has five floors and many of the rooms have a sea & pool view. It is in a good central location & the resort was open at this time of year unlike Pineda & Calella which had closed down. The hotel is spotlessly clean, rooms good size with safe 15e pw, TV & hairdryer.Cameras on each corridor.

Food excellent-plenty of choice. International cuisine - lots of French & Germans in the hotel when we were there. Lots to do for the children-cinema morning & afternoon t/tennis, pool, ten pin bowling(3e)& lge pool. The hotel was very busy and staff looked overworked but were always polite. The tables were positioned canteen style & at breakfast it was sometimes difficult to find a table which didn't have dirty plates on it but staff were always willing to lay a clean table if you asked.

The beach looks better than it is as the sand is very course & shelves quite steeply. To get to the beach you have to cross first the esplanade then the railway at selected subways or bridges onto a service road which has beach acess points. There is a bridge & acess point directly opposite the hotel The service road gives acess to Malgrat & Pineda & was used by pedestrians & cyclists(cycle hire)We enjoyed visits to Blanes by train from Santa Susanna & linked bus - buy the combination ticket from the station, Lloret by train & linked bus, Tossa de Mar-bus from Lloret & Barcelona.

We got the train 5.5e each return to Cataluyna station & emerged into Catalunya Square. From the info office you can buy a map for 1e. We booked the open top bus tours for 16e each for the day (20e for two consec days) which departs from the square Las ramblas runs from the square to the port & a cable car runs from the port area to Montjuic which is worth a visit to see olympic stadium etc. Beware of pickpockets -someone we spoke to had been robbed on the train by a young girl & a girl in the hotel had her camera stolen.

Lovely hotel & a good holiday but disappointed with beach at Santa Susanna hotel

Aquarmarina very clean hotel but the food was the worst i have ever seen undercooked and cold i lived on soup and melon, the breakfast was okay but the evening meal was dreadful, my husband who will eat and try anything was very ill for 2 days and if he said it was bad it was, other english guests said the same

A very good holiday, hotel spotless and staff helpful at all times, food was excellent very varied from plain to fancy never a bad meal.

Towards the end of our 2nd week hotel was full, queues would build for breakfast and dinner we found the best times to eat were 9am and 7.30pm. Plenty of sunbeds around the pool, no need to get up early with your towels as beds still available mid morning. The pool could be a little larger as it can get quite full at busy times. Aqua Gymn twice everyday. Visit beach bar no 15 behind the Pins Bar very funny man, he will mix you a very strong jug of his own receipe sangria, if you ask for 4 glasses he will give you 5 and with a nod and a wink towards the owner will serve himself a glass leave it on your table and take a gulp each time he passes!!

Pins Bar has happy hour 8pm-10pm but beware of little flies on chairs they can stain your clothes. We booked everything ourselves, flew to Barcelona with Easyjet and jumped on the train to Santa Susanna, very easy, with a family our size we saved 2,000 pounds on travel agent prices. Hotel has own web site www aquahotel com you can book direct via this.

The water park in Lloret is a great day out but book your tickets before you get the free bus, booking office just past Burger King, otherwise you have to get on the bus last and it can be a bit of a squeeze, 18 euros per adult per day but if you want to visit again during your hols you can by a 2nd visit ticket for 10 euros when you are at the park. Santa Susanna is mainly a hotel district it is a family resort not a great many bars or discos, these can be found in Malgrat the resort that Santa Susanna runs into, there is not a great deal of nightlife in Santa Susanna for the older teens.

Hotel was nice and clean except in the 2 weeks we were there they never changed our sheets.but other than that it was clean.

If you want a sunbed at the pool you must be up very early as people put there towels on them before going for breakfast.

The beach is a 5 min walk but its not that nice, its not sand its gravel.

There is a pub called The Ship which is nice and friendly.

The food in the hotel was ok lots of fish.

Entertainment was really bad considering the size of the hotel they catered more for the Germans or French as there was a lot of them.

The games room in the basement of the hotel was good lots of arcade games, pool, computers for the internet, table tennis etc.

The pool is a good size with a separate kids pool.

Take the wee train round the resort and up the mountains fantastic views the older driver is very funny.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Just returned from santa susanna on the costa brava, what a fantastic holiday! We stayed at the hotel aquamarina and we can honestly say that it is the best hotel we have ever been to whilst holidaying abroad. The hotel is given a 3 star rating but it deserves to be at least a 4 star, the rooms were very large with a double and a single bed, they are all airconditioned which was a god send as it was so warm at the time of our visit.

We booked half board and expected the food to be awful, what a surprise we got ! The food was one of the highlights of our holiday, there was a wide range to choose from every day and this included things like pizza, chicken breasts, pasta, salads, chips, steak, roast beef, to be honest i could be here all day describing the food it was fabulous!

The pool was lovely and was spotlessley clean as was the rest of the hotel, there were always loads of sunbeds so you dont have to get up at the crack of dawn to put your towels on them which has got to be a bonus. The hotel provides entertainment every night which was pleasant enough, however be prepared for it to be delivered in about 6 different languages!

The resort of santa susanna has a quiet and relaxing atmosphere and is ideal for people wanting a peaceful holiday, there is not too much going on in resort but a 5 minute stroll along the lovely promenade will bring you to malgrat which has shops, bars and restaurants. There is a railway line which runs along the promenade and the beach can be found on the other side of the railtrack, this is not a problem as there are loads of bridges and underpasses which will safely get you to the other side of the road.

The beach in santa susanna is very clean but if you have children it may not be the best place to go as the sand is very sharp(i cut my finger whilst touching it!) and there is a steep drop into the water. A trip to barcelona is a must, we went on a jmc excursion and visited loads of nice places including ras lamblas, the olympic village and the highlight of the day was seeing the fountains lit up and dancing to music at night time, this was well worth the money we payed for the trip and we are planning on going back to barcelona for a few days very soon!

Only one thing that i should point out is that this resort has many different nationalities in it including spanish, french, dutch and german so if this bothers you dont go to santa susanna.

All in all this holiday was fantastic and we will definately be back as soon as we can, if you are considering this resort and especially this hotel then you should book it straight away as you will have a great time and like us will never want to leave!

Hotel is spotless.Plenty of food and mostly enjoyable. Reception staff all spoke English well and are very friendly. Rooms are very nice but we were on the 5th floor where the balconies are very small.Disappointed at first but realised it suited us as very private, away from pool noise and great views of sea and mountains.

Santa susanna clean and nice and you get used to the train and main road passing through resort, but not as pretty as Tossa which I thought was beautiful if you like a more traditional Spainish feel. The ferry takes you there for 19E return and is a nice trip. Make your own way for about 7E return on the train and local buses ( very efficient transport links) bus takes you through winding mountain roads.

I would not visit Santa S. again as not a lot of places of interest in actual resort but ok as a sightseeing base.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We had a very good time at the Aquamarina in Santa Sussana.

The hotel (which is very large - at check out times it has the ambience of a busy airport) is spotlessly clean, there are security cameras on every turn of the corridors and the staff are all very friendly and speak excellent English.

The food is very good (we had the half-board option)hot and tasty in buffet style, although it does cater quite heavily for the very large German contingent of guests. Typical evening meal might have been a choice of spagetti bolognese, pork schnitzel, meatballs, chips, runner beans, salads, pasta, several types of bread rolls (or the whole lot as many times as you liked if you fancied). Breakfast is the same, boiled eggs, cold meats, bacon, sausage, toast etc etc. However, the dining room is quite stressful as everyone seems to be moving about with platefuls of food or barging in front of you to get to the food itself. I found it difficult to enjoy a meal with my family as once I had got my food and my daughter's, my wife was up getting hers and by the time she got back we had finished ours. A final note on the food - we queued for 30 minutes to get into the dining room once. Best time to get down for breakfast is 8.30am and dinner 7pm.

The pool area is clean (as is the whole hotel) and has enough sun loungers for everybody - but I recommend getting yours before 10am in order to be able to sit where you want. Avoid the snack bars associated with the hotel (next to the pool area) - the food is not very good and is overpriced.

The bedrooms are of a reasonably high standard - a fairly good size with very nice bathrooms and a balcony (although ours bizarrly overlooked the hotel pool next door).

There is not a great deal in the resort of Santa Sussana itself, and to get to the beach (which is very nice) you have to go under the nearest railway line underpass as the rails run parallel with the prom and the beach.

We did the excursion to Barcelona (Football and Fountains) which took in the Nou Camp and the fountains in Barcelona. This was a very long day - 10 hours, but worth it.

On the whole it was very enjoyable - and we would go there again. A week's stay was enough, and unless you are a sun worshipper and want to tan quite heavily sitting round the pool there isn't really anything worth staying a fortnight for.

We booked this holiday after reading comments on this website, so we hope our review was as useful to you as other people's were to us.

The rooms where nice, althought you tend to get the back view and not the pool view

and the view isnt that good at the back, however the pool view is great, depending on what room you get.

The food is ok although could be better,

you sometimes have to que for a table for at least half hour just to eat, and the desserts are abit disapointing.

Overall i did enjoy the hoilday and i would go back, i'd say is good value for money.

We read mixed reviews about this hotel and when we first arrived we werent happy about the room as it was VERY small and we had requested a twin bed but got a double, also requested to be near a lift due to my mum having a disability and ended up near the end of a long corridor! But did get pool and sea view. They were going to move us but due to being very busy we would of ended up with les views so we stayed put and actually liked it in the end.

The hotel is really big with lots to do for all ages Entertainment between 3-4pm near pool. Nighttime Entertainment was a good varied mix of shows 10pm-(aprox)12pm. 12-1am disco and childrens time was 9-10pm with reps. Not really a place for late teens-late 20's unless with familys, not many bars to choose from. Hotel was very popular with older couples, mainly german, french, dutch but not many english. Meals were buffet style, breakfasts were what you would expect in spain cold and cooked varied food. Rate 5/10 Evening meals were better but you have to pay for drinks on the night. rate 8/10. Hotel was very modern and clean, service was ok hairdrivers in rooms and Tv's although channels more catered for french/german/spanish. 1 english channel but just with news.

RESORT- train goingalong prominard but noise is limited and was ok. Beach was clean but harder to get to if you have a disability even tough ramps are ready available. Restaurants were plenty mainly serving pizzas, burgers, paella and some fish. Prices all resonable and shops aplenty but dont expect to buy anything of value. Train goes to barcelona and is really cheap and well worth a visit. If i was to return to this resort i would still think about this hotel. visited may 20th but think we were lucky as it wasnt busy as what id been told so no queues for anything.

I had read mixed reviews about Santa Susanna and my hotel in particular and didnt know what to expect, and as this was my first ever trip abroad i was anxious. However, i needn't have worried! The underpass leading to the hotel is not a problem at all, infact its smaller than most underpasses at UK train stations.

The food at The Capricci was not excellent but was always well presented. However, breakfast was lovely everyday and had a wide variety to suit all tastes. Some evening meals were unedible. (pigs feet!)

The hotel itself was spotless, staff were friendly to all nationalities and the hotel animation team deserve a mention too!

One thing that did attempt to spoil our holiday was the fact we were victim of a pickpocket in Malgrat. She was a gypsy woman selling wilting carnations to tourists, and as your gave her coins to send her on her way she looted your wallet/purse of notes, in our case 70 euros. This happened to several people we spoke to and all were as confused as us as to how she could have done this before our very eyes!!!

All in all this was a very enjoyable holiday, yet i am unsure as to whether i would visit again.

Please note that the only way to get to the other side of the road is down 17 steps and back up another 17 steps. The reps tell you bus will pick you up outside hotel - no not believe them - as the bus willn't go under the tunnel - so you have to carry your case down and up the stairs.

The resort is for Family's, there is no night life, the train station is outside the hotel and its really cheap.

The Capricci is a great hotel - basic but spotless clean. The staff were very friendly & helpful. The food is not great (if you are English) but it was always well cooked even if the conbinations were a little bizzare! There was a great variety of nationalities staying there so if you like British only hotels then the Capricci is not for you. The pool area is very pleasant but it did get crowded when we were there - you have to get up early to get a good spot & a parasoll I'm afraid !.

The beach is right outside so if money is no object go on the beach (12 euros for 2 beds & a parasoll) the breeze from the sea is fantastic! Malgrat is pretty tacky so give it a miss & get the train to Calella instead. Lots of shops & some nice restaurants if you fancy a change from the hotel - try 'La Brassiere Des Gardens' for some traditional Spanish tapas.

The best thing about the Capricci is the train station right outside. Barcelona is just 1hr 10min away, 5.50 euros (£3.50) return on an air conditioned train which runs on time - bargain! The train runs along the coast all the way, once the train goes underground get off at the 3rd stop (Playa de Catlunya) & explore the most beautiful city in Europe! Get on the open top touristic bus (16 euros for one day) & get on & off where you fancy!! We went four times & barely scratched the surface - fantastic !!

I would recomend the Capricci to anyone.

My/Our Holiday Review:

hotel was kept very clean. we were given clean linen every day. staff were friendly. food was not very good did not cater at all well for British. were put at table along with other couple as they didn't cater for a table for two. We were delayed on the return journey by 15 houirs which was supposed to be a technical fault.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Do not confuse this hotel with its sister hotel the Caprici. The addition of the title VERD makes all the difference. When we booked this independent holiday we checked virtually every hotel in a 20 mile area knowing the area reasonably well. I can assure you that this is probably the best hotel on the Costa Brava (and we have holidayed in Spanish Hotels for over 20 years).

If you like holiday hotels full of English men and women with tattoos don't go here, go to the Onnabrava or the ones further up the road. There were 12 different Nationalities in the hotel and the food reflected the differences. It was excellent, 3 different meat dishes, 2 different fish dishes and vegetarian options every night, with a chef cooking fresh fish and meat. 2 types of pasta and 2 different pasta sauces were also available nightly with as much salad and accompanyments than you could swing a stick at. The sweets were just as varied and plentiful.

Breakfasts were just as good with real bacon and again a chef cooking fresh eggs whilst you watched, he also cooked fresh pancakes with different syrups.

All rooms were spacious and had 2 queen beds, tv, fridge, hair dryer and air conditioning all included. The pool was the largest pool on that coastline and there was never a problem in using any of the 240 brand new sunbeds. There was an indoor pool, sauna, jaccuzi and gymnasium all at no extra cost. Entertainment is provided by a four person Animation team with daily games and evening acts although the down side was that some of the guests are Russians and Poles who quite simply do not integrate. They don't speak, nod or otherwise greet you no matter how many times you see them. The other 10 nationalities are excellent.

The hotel prices for drinks and snacks were unbelievable. This is a 4* plus hotel with 2* prices. The bar prices were 25% cheaper than all of the Aqua hotels and the snack prices 33% cheaper (yes we did eat and drink in both) example 1 pint San Miguel 2.2E in Capric
