Estartit Hotels and Apartments A - Z Hotel Bell Aire - Estartit Operator and Date: Independantly Booked August 2005 Opinion submitted in Oct 2005 by : siobhan 18 ,michelle 18 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: This was my 7th trip to l'estartit but my first stay in the hotel bell-aire i thought that it was brilliant. the people were friendly the service was great and we made more good m8ts. We met people at kims bar in my first year and in 2004 we made some great friends that we stay in touch with that work there. that should show that the people are friendly,in the day there is alot that can be done and there are lots of day trips to places like barcelona and port adventura using panorama travels, and in the night it is great for youngsters who just wanna have fun as there are great bars and nightclubs such as podium and maxims. if anyone were to ask my advice then i would say definatley go too l' estartit it is exellent and the prices are great too. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Bell Aire - Estartit Operator and Date: Independantly Booked August 2005 Opinion submitted in Sept 2005 by : Michell and Siobhan- Peterborough- 18-18 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: This was the second time i have visited L'estartit and the eighth time that Siobhan has visited. We absolutely love L'estartit, the locals are very welcoming and you are garranteed to meet people from your home country. The daytime is so peaceful that you can just chill out and relax, the beach was great with it being just 1 minute away from the hotel. the are lots of places to eat in that are ran by English and Irish people for example... the Bryliz= brilliant Jacket potatoes, Harveys= You have to try the big Kahoona, Clancys, spirals= great for english breakfast, tex mex= a must go place. The best evening bar to go to is kim's Bar it is right along the beach front and the service is great me and siobhan made a good freind in the waiters and waitresses both this year and last year. The night life is exellent in June- mid August, every one makes there way to the sqaure where podium, rockfellas, y'c's, 501 and blaunit is situated the ski hut is cheap for getting drunk!!!! at around 3 am everybody makes there way to maxims a 3 story club which is exellent!!!!!!!! we took a day trip with panarama to barcelona to see the fountains and the football all at great prices. Overall it is an extremely pleasent place to visit but you have 2 have at least 2 weeks or moore there 1 week is certainly not long enough. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blau Park - Estartit Operator and Date: Budget Travel SEptember 2004 Opinion submitted in Sept 2004 by : Clinton,Michelle,Sophie 22,23,2 Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: My first and last visit to Estartit. the hotel was a shambles I wouldn't go back again if it was for free.the rooms were very very small , and as for the balcony, you couldn't sit on them not even room to put a table on it.the staff were really really helpful......NOT!!! They were smoking over the cooker while making food for us and the baby. the apartments were only cleaned once and when they left , they left our front door wide open with all our belongs in it. the nightporter(dont disturb his sleep) he knocked at our bedroom door at 1.am and told us to go to bed, he then called back again 30mins later with the police , and said we were making noise, when my 2yr old daughter was asleep in the room.how much noise can you make with the baby asleep in the same room???.... the resort itself wasn't very much either, all the pubs shut at 12.30am and waterpark. karts etc all about 2/3 hours drive away on a coach!!! well i could go on all night about my holiday from HELL, so if you book to go to Estartit expect the same..... I WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK TO ESTARTIT ESP BALU PARK!!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blau Park - Estartit Operator and Date: Budget Travel - September 2004 Opinion submitted in Sept 2004 by : Catherine McKeown - Co Down (24, 25) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: We had a 7 hour delay in dublin airport before we even left for our holiday - when we eventually arrived at Blau Park Apartments we were very disappointed at the security man on the front desk as he was very unhelpful. We entered our room to find the toilet did not work and our cooker was tripping all of the electricity in the apartment, there was no air conditioning and we were situated at the front of the apartments and found the walls of the apartments paper thin. The bin men did collect the rubbish at midnight on the first night. Some of the other people who we became very friendly with received a knock on their door and the security man told them to keep the noise down or he was going to phone the police - this I found disgraceful and very hostile. The next day when we were to collect our passports we had to pay a 60 euro deposit for the room - this was not very well advertised and 60 euros out of your pocket before you even start your holiday is a big dent to your spending money!!! The security boxes were situated at the front desk - and the receptionist kept looking at you as if you were not meant to be there on many occasions. We found the food was not very good - the grass around the pool was not cut - the pool itself is nice - but the sunbeds although free to use were chained up every day. We found a pub called Cafe Barracuda - this was run by an English couple - Mick and Carol - heading here most days for a drink and food which were absolutely gorgeous was one of the great highlights of the holiday!!!! Mick and Carol couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome and even came out to a night club on our last night!! The Bar has 4 TV's one Plasma screen - all showing football matches during the week - needless to say the men loved this - the bar also had 3-4 pool tables, a kiddies area, pool, they even showed DVD's of the latest films for adults and children. They hosted a karaoke night and a live music night - the entertainment was great The beach was beautiful - the nautis boat trip was unbelievable and would be loved by kids and adults alike!! Barcelona is a must, and Waterworld was worth every penny Despite our few glitches with the accomodation the holiday was enjoyable and we would definately go back to Estartit. Thank you for your time and I hope you find this information useful. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Camping Castell Montgri - Estartit Operator and Date: Ryanair/Keycamps - June 2007 Opinion submitted in June 2007 by : Christine Hickey - Newcastle (32, 31, 3 , 5) Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: Travelled with Ryanair - What a nightmare... excess charges as you cannot carry anything over 15 kg and no sharing of baggage allowance, so my son was under by 7 kg but i was over by 3, so i was charged £5.50 per kilo. Keycamps - Very casual and laid back, showed us to our 'Supertent', very dirty and on a plot with a steep ledge of about 1.5 metres. Not very child friendlt. There was no manager available so had to endure a lower dirty plot until we were moved to a slighlty better tent. Again with a ledge and on a road. Never had any contact after the first day!! Castrell Mongri - Canmpsite was very clean. Food was very poor - no childrens menu which keycamp had indicated in there website, very misleading. The staff were very rude and aggressive. We went into Estartit most nights which proved expensive. Entertainment - well if thats what you can call it, if you like cheesy awful music everynight, the same playlist i should say, very 'chavvy'... then this is the site for you. It was very loud and we were near the entrance. It was not suitable for small children, full of over drunken teenagers!!! Not my idea of a family holiday. Pools were nice, sunbeds over priced for a family of four. Estartit - found the town beautiful and will be returning soon. Kims was excellant for food and drink as was Mr Taco's. I would NOT recommend and will not be back to Castrell Mongri... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Camping Castell Montgri - Estartit Operator and Date: Go 4 Spain Opinion submitted in August 2007 by : Garvey - Birmingham Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: I agree with a lot of what the Smiths said. Yes it is very hilly to each pool(we was on bottom level) but once you reached the pool we stayed most of the day.Didnt think the supermarket was that expensive and stocked lots of english foods. We made a packed lunch of a morning and set off to the pool of choice, or the beach!Lifestyle reps were on hand every day and were there at the caravan solving any problems we had (nothing major). The snorkelling trip is a must, 15 euros each and that includes the glass bottom boat, snorkelling, jumping off the boat and all of it is recorded and put on dvd with music which gives a short tour of the campsite and the town, you can buy this for extra 12 euros.Brilliant memento of the hol! Visit Harveys if you go into the town, English Bar with kiddies play room, the meals are well worth the wait!! The chinese wok is also worth a visit, where your chosen raw foods are cooked before your eyes, this is an "all you can eat" buffet for 10 euros for adults and half price for kids.We stayed for 14 days and it rained for just 2 of them at night, this is the only small blip we found. there is only the covered area at the bottom pool with movies showing for kids, the middle pool (Panarama) is not covered for entertainment, nor is the top pool. The top pool is really nice and secluded, with waterfall. Mind you once you get to the top, you are not going to want to come down for a long while!!!! We will definitely be back, if not next year then certainly the one after, and will be booking with lifestyle again. All gas and elec provided, bedding, air con and anything we needed was there the same day. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Castell Montgri - Estartit Operator and Date: Haven May/June 2006 Opinion submitted in June 2006 by : Shaun - Bath 65,55,42,42,41,40,16,16,14,14,12,2 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: First time at this resort, flights, car hire etc all booked on line so not too expensive. Journey from Gerona airport very simple and the site is easy to find on your left just before Estartit. The Site is well laid out with plenty of pools and things for the children to do, disco and entertainment every night which was ok. There are numerous supermarkets nearby or there's one on site which was well stocked and not too dear compared to others I have used. Estartit is a small fishing port with a few places to eat and a couple of nice tapas bars, there are glass bottom boat trips around the nearby islands but be warned the sea can get choppy very quickly that's when you find out if you have any "sea legs" Went over to France for the day lovely drive (about 28 miles) and a great day out, no checks at the border so quick and easy. No major moans, there is some noise from Dogs and the site is on a hill side so it will keep you fit! The sun beds by the pool do cost just over 3 euros for the day which I did not mind as it stops people (and I include the All nationalities) putting their towels on them at dawn and then not turning up until the afternoon! One problem certain "families" seem to think it's ok for their children to buy BB guns from the Spanish market and then walk around the camp shooting them at cars, my side window on my car was broken which may have been caused by the BB's which where all along the road. I reported this to the reps and the main reception who did not help or seem very interested. Overall a good Holiday. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Castell Montgri - Estartit Operator and Date: Ryneair - SEpt 2005 Opinion submitted in Sept 2005 by : Nikki Atterbury - Stoke (19, 21, 17, 17, 36, 38, 34, 6, 8 Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: We have just come back from a holiday in castell montgri and i have never been to such a lovely site but very very strict sight, for lively people with or without children i wouldnt go here, by the first couple of days we had our campaning passes taking of us apprantely for making noise outside of our caravan, this was infact very interesting as we was all at the club at the time the security guard apprantely took our passes of us. We was told that we could not make any noise past 12, this was also very interesting as we was right next to the campsite club which went on until 4am and had screaming teenagers walking past making enought noise to wake the campsite. Also if you have walking disabilities this holiday wouldnt be ideal for you as its all up hill. The food on the site was poor and all you could eat was chips, burgers and pizzas not a wide variaty at all. We ended up paying a fortune for a snack around the pool. The spanish workers were ignorant and very slow with helping us when we had a problem with anything. The only good thing about this campsite was the pools and the holiday reps they was brilliant helped us with everything. We was that disappointed with the holiday the second week we moved to Blanes which was a huge improvement and made up for the poor holiday we had at Castell Montgri. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Castell Montgri - Estartit Operator and Date: Club Cantabrica - August 2005 Opinion submitted in Sept 2005 by : Mary Hardcastle - Waltham Abbey (63, 62, 41, 39, 16, 15, 7) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Opinion: Would not recommend Club Cantabrica - their Coach travel is absolute rubbish. No Hostess service is supplied either journey and this is quite normal. No water on coach, No toilet. Only one TV - this is at the front of the coach - so if you are sitting at the back - take your binoculars. To compensate for seeing the tv they turn it up to full volume. They never seem to run to the timetable that they give you. We had a blow out on the tyre and we had to tell them as we heard a loud bang and the tyre was flapping - my husband had to go and tell them - they said they would check at the next stop as it was too dark outside - approx 45 mins away. The journey was a joke from start to end. We arrived nearly 6 hours late. The site and facilities on site is excellent. All logdes, tents etc are in a forest environment on the edge of a mountain. We had booked top of the range - Platinum - absolute rubbish. The accommodation is very basic. Small fridge, no micro, no toaster. Rooms only fit for midgets so beware anyone 5ft or over. Pitches are unlevel and dangerous. My husband tripped and fell into the glass door and hurt his elbow. It was reported but nothing was done about it. BEWARE of the hills on site - they are really really steep - if you have a heart condition or need a wheelchair - don't go here. Coach Journey coming home was a bit better apart from the smell as soon as we got on the coach. The toilet had not been emptied since it's journey from the UK. We had to sit and suffer that smell for about 4 hrs until they was able to 'drop the toilet' at Narbonne. Missed the boat at 10.15am - arrived to South Mimms Services approx 2 hours later than is advertised on their timetable. If you have to travel by Coach - try another company like Siesta Coaches for instance. We heard very good things about this company from people who had travelled with them. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Castell Montgri - Estartit Operator and Date: siesta- july 2005 Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : wilson family 46, 45, 16, 15 Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Just got back from castell montigri Estatit, on 15th August 05. Siesta coaches and staff, were brilliant looked after us well. Stayed in 4/6 executive lodge, although small for 4 adults very well equipped. There was only one rep to look after 20 lodges, althougth she was brilliant, we did not see much of her. Estartit town itself, had not changed much from 12 years previous when we had holidayed at castell montigri. The site still lays on an hourly free bus service into estartit town but this finishes at 5. Again nothing on the site had changed. Except for the prices of everything being quite over charged. A sunbed is now 3 euros 70, which x4 on a 15 day holiday eats into your budget. After a few days we chose to sunbath on the grass like many other people. Food was basic, chips with everything and not exactly cheap. We felt entertainment, for the younger family, was brilliant but for a family with teenagers ages 13-15 , there was very little, as to get in the under ground disco and piano bar, you had to be 16+ the guards would not let you in, without your camping pass which had your age on. We heard of many incidents of guards being over aggresive with teenagers under 16 trying to enter the disco. On one occassion a guard attacked a 15 year old boy, hitting him in his stomach with his torch, causing him several injuries, the guard was suspended and the family was taking further action. As concerned parents we wondered if perhaps the age limit was lowered, this would stop the gangs of bored, fighting, young teenagers. Most nights there was fighting, even to the extent of police and ambulnaces being called to the site. My own son age 15 was physically manhandled by a waiter, out of a chair, while he was waiting for his friends. Why. Because he hadnt purchased a drink. When we approached the waiter he was rude and aggresive. On the upside the site is very picturesque. Siesta lodges are in a very beautiful setting and close to all amenities. I would like to recomend the trip to Montserrat, breathtaking views, and for even those people who are not greatly religious a very moving experience, especially touching the black maddonas hand. The trip to Barcelona is a must. The live statues down the Rambles, are something to be seen. The market on a Thursday, was very dissapointing, no bartering and most of the goods looked as though they had been thrown on tables for would be buyers to rumage through. Extremely crowded making it immposible to look at stalls even if you did want to stop and buy. Also many rude people, (men) especially pushing and shoving you out of the way. Did we enjoy are holiday? yes. Although at this stage i would not go back to Castell Montigri, Estartit again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Castell Montgri - Estartit Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Wayne King Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: We arrived at Verona airport and took a taxi to the campsite which was very dear but quite comfertable. I wouldnt recomend this campsite to familys with teenagers as its obvious that the guards and the managemnt dont like English teenagers. Our two sons were banned from using the facilities on the second day because of a fight between some other boys which they didnt have anythin to do with but were still accused of by the guards. Food on the site is very boring and its chips with everything and the same menu everyday. We went into town to Roberts Restaurant and the kids had a fantastic pizza there. I had calamari washed down with a bottle of Montrachet Premier Cru which was not dear at all. Would recomend Bry liz bar in town for home cooked English food and great company. Dont think well be going back to Estartit though. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Castell Montgri - Estartit Operator and Date: lifestyle 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Susan Mccafferty 40 Danny 45 Ross 13 Chris 8 stephanie 6 Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: We have been to the campsite before and enjoyed our time there but found it had gone down hill. Every van and tent had car parking out front of it so the campsite is no longer safe for kids. People were using their cars to go from one pool to another and even to go to on site supermarket. There were cars everywhere and I found it unsafe to let kids out on their own. The prices in the supermarket were extortionate. We spent on average 80 euros per day in supermarket just buying basic items for fridge . The bar and restaurant was worse. Food was awful chips with everything and average lunch for five came to over fifty pounds. example one small beer was 2 euros 20 cents. Lots of people discovered a lidl not far from entrance and there was a constant stream of people with heavy lidl bags having to go there everyday just to save their money. One night we bought jug of sangria from bar 12 euros we just sat down and it started pouring. We took drinks up to main covered bar but it was full so sat at restaurant table which was empty but covered. The waiter would not let us sit at this table unless we ordered a meal and put us out into pouring rain. During the day the pools were very busy and the few life guards on duty were also in charge of emptying bins and collecting sun bed money. The cost of sunbeds was also a rip of and we could not have afforded to rent these for five of us every day. Most people took to sitting on concrete or grass area nearby and the sunbeds lay empty. There is plenty for kids to do but it all cost money and nothing was cheap. If you intend to visit here make sure you bring plenty of spending money and although the bus only runs in morning now make the walk into town where you will get descent meal for reasonable price. We spent over £2000 and brought home nothing. We wont be back --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Castell Montgri - Estartit Operator and Date: Redcrest - July 2004 Opinion submitted in July 2004 by : Gerry (46, 44, 17, 13) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: We stayed at the Castell Montgri caravan site near Estartit. Our flights were via Ryanair and as far as they are concerned, it could not have been better. We arrived at Girona airport on time. We paid Redcrest a fee for transportation from the airport to the site. Kourney time 50 mins if it goes direct. They are a little vague in giving information on what happens at the airport for a pick up. We had to hang around for 10 mins looking for our driver. The flight was on time and he was late, just Spain I suppose. Generally the site itself was very clean, really good facilities and well kept. I was surprised to find it not very busy and laid out in such a way as to have a good degree of privacy. We rented a Super Phoenix with air conditioning. Although the van was about 2 years old, the upholstery and bed mattresses were in need of replacement. We had to clean the van when we arrived, although it wasn't dirty it had been superficially cleaned before we arrived. The van comes with its own gas BBQ and this was a great add on. Restaurants on site are about 20% more expensive than in the resort of Estartit. I can recommend the Torre Moratxa, thr pizzaria on site, especially seating upstairs. Good atmosphere and food was good. If there are a group of you don't expect the food to arrive in sequence! The fast food restaurant on site was very expensive - not a cheap way to feed the kids. Portions are also meagre. There are a number of bars on site. The Panorama bar at the top of the site is a sort of Butlins show time affair. However La Bassa on the very top of the site, a long climb up the hill, was typically Spanish. Cocktails and live music, great atmosphere and views. The Piano and Tapas bar on site is actually a karaoke with no Tapas. It opens late. All other bars close around 11.45pm. The disco on site stays late, till about 4am and according to our 17 year old daughter it was brilliant. Beware of the on site supermarket. The prices are high and you must check your change. There were many instances of people being overcharged. In one case our friends were over charged £40. The site is very hilly, which provides for some nice spots, but not for people who find walking in the heat a chore. There are three pools on site. The lower level pool has flumes for the kids, the pool at Panorama is very big and good for swimming. At La Bassa there is a small pool with a waterfall. A good site to take the kids, all ages catered for. Good tennis courts, with al;l equipment for hire. The walk into Estartit takes about 20 mins. A bus goes from site every hour, but it finishes at 5pm - no night time transport therefore the restaurants can charge extra. In Estartit there are a number of good food places. Chinese Wok Restaurant at the commercial centre is unusual. You choose the raw ingredients and the chefs cook it on the spot. Prices went up by 1 euro on the 1st July! Harveys, on the front. Very good for Tex Mex food. Toni's is an English restaurant on the way to town. Food is good and reasonable prices. Nothing Spanish on the menu. Estartit is good for diving. Lot's of choices for hires. The beach is nice. Longers and parasols are expensive to hire. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Castell Montgri - Estartit Operator and Date: Redcrest - July 2004 Opinion submitted in July 2004 by : 34, 34, 9, 7 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: We flew in to Gerona with Ryanair and hired a car for the duration, we found this was a very good way to discover the area as it is a bit of a walk to Estartit on a hot day. We arrived at 8pm and found the Redcrest office, which was closed, there was a map on the door explaining where we could find the Duty Rep, unfortunately she wasn't where she should have been. We eventually flagged down a Redcrest van and the driver took us to our caravan, NOT THE BEST START. The caravan was supposed to be 8 berth but I wouldn't like to live in it with any more than 4. The pitch was small and uneven with loose slabs, there were much better pitches around us though. The caravan wasn't in the cleanest condition when we arrived, but we soon got it up to scratch. BE WARNED - on your day of departure you are expected to vacate at 9am and the caravan has to be spotlessly cleaned by you or they will keep your 60 Euros deposit. other companies had there own cleaners. Castell Montgri is an excellent place, especially if you have got kids, there's lots for them to do and well, if they were happy then we were happy. It has 3 pools, the bottom was our favourite because it has a flume and was very close to our caravan. I would recommend a drive to Callella de palafrugell and Lefranc, both are beautiful small coastal towns about 30 mins drive away. Overall we al had a very good holiday, let down a little only by Redcrest. We would go back but would stay in a Haven van as the were much bigger, nicer and had dedicated cleaning staff. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Castell Montgri - Estartit Operator and Date: Siesta International Holidays - June 2004 Opinion submitted in Nov 2004 by : Scotland - various ages Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: We travelled by coach with Siesta and the journey itself was ok but the coach had a few problems - the toilet could not be used after a while as it needed to be emptied and there was nowhere to do this and the televisions broke down onboard. The site at Castell Montgri was not very impressive, there were steep hills or steps to get around and the steps were often wet which was dangerous and at night there were teenagers hanging around with alcohol. Also if you went to the show which never started on time, usually about an hour late and you were walking accross the football pitch to get back to your accommodation you had to be very careful as there were no lights and you couldn't see the steps. We stayed in an Executive 4/6 Lodge which we couldn't fault - two decent sized bedrooms, living area, kitchen and shower and toilet. Our accommodation was in the middle of the site which was handy for us. The restaurant on the site is quite good but a bit expensive as is the take-away. For eating i would recommend the Chinese Buffet in Estartit or the Saratoga which is along the dirt track at the entrance to the campsite. The bars on site are quite reasonable with their prices although the waiter service is not always good. Estartit is about a 20 minute walk from the campsite and definately go early in the morning because it gets too warm any later. Estartit was a simple little town it has some good shops but not very many but there a lot of nice little cafes and restaurants down by the marina. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Castell Montgri - Estartit Operator and Date: Haven - June 2004 Opinion submitted in Aug 2004 by : The Millers' - Warrington (39,38,10,5) Resort Rating: Below Average Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: I'm sorry but we hated Castell Montgri and couldn't wait to come home. I'm not a snob but it was a real eye-opener. I can only describe it as Butlin's in the sun! Although the site itself is quite nice, it's too big and too hilly making it unsuitable for disabled people. Both pools are ok but it quickly gets crammed. A BIG minus point is that there's a charge for sunbeds at 3 euro's per bed. After a few days round the pool, we were fed up listening to lads shouting to each other about their 'latest female conquests' - 'effing & blinding' - not very nice in front of the kids, so we went to the beach in Estratit instead. The evenings weren't much better either. The entertainment was very 'Butlin-esque' and was full of young girls (14 or 15) in gangs drinking alcohol and smoking, dressed like tarts. I'm sure the teenage pregnancy rate shot-up the week we were there! We booked a Haven caravan and although it was very spacious, we had to clean it on our arrival. The outdoor patio furniture was filthy and caked in bird muck. The supermarket is overpriced and the staff are rude and have a major attitude problem. There's a much bigger, better and cheaper supermarket in Estartit. Estartit itself is lovely and a 20 minute leisurely stroll away. The beach is fantastic with plenty of sunloungers and umbrellas but again there's a charge. Plenty of bars and beach cafe's during the day with lots of shops and restaurants in the evening. Be warned, there are no taxi's or buses in Estartit so you'll need to take the car or walk. Would we go again ....not even if it was free! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Castell Montgri - Estartit Operator and Date: Redcrest - June 2004 Opinion submitted in June 2004 by : Dawn,Tony,Kayleigh,Chris,Nan,Jason,Tracy,Dan,Katie,Dave,Becky Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: We have just returned from holiday at castell montgri. We stayed in a super phoenix 8 & we traveled with redcrest. We were aprehensive about the coach journey having never travelled this way.The journey was draining but redcrest did the best they could to keep us entertained & refreshed even stopping regulary for ciggerette breaks.the only thing we would recomend is to stay away from the back seats as they do not recline fully & can become un-comfortable. The site was clean, the gardens were immaculate, the staff were freindly & helpfull despite the language barrier. The caravan was basic but clean & well furnished, as for size it was big enough for our group however if you were taking maximum occupancy then we feel it would be to small. Food on site was aimed at the british. We always found something on the menu for everyone to eat - normally the special of the day for about 5 euros which included a beer!! The redcrest reps were helpfull & never to far if needed. With this holiday you get exactly what you pay for,we had a great time & it didn't cost a fortune. kirsteen if your reading this then (EXCUSE ME!!!!) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Castell Montgri Lodges and Camping Site - Estartit Operator and Date: Siesta coach holidays - 2004 Opinion submitted in Sept 2004 by : Dave Heath - Sutton(surrey) (42,38,10,4) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: The coach journey down to Estartit was a lot better than i thought it would be.The coaches are modern, comfortable and plenty of leg room. They don`t pack you in.We booked super recliner seats for our journey there as it was our first time and having 2 kids also. The drive was smooth and trouble free. The kids watched the films untill midnight then we all settled down for the night. There is a stop every 2-3 hours(ideal if your a smoker. The prices of food and drink is very reasonable and the hostess is friendly, quick and very helpfull. Left Calais at approx 1800 and arrived at the camp approx 1000 next morning. We got on coach at Dover so did`nt have to put up with British roads. The resort itself is ideal for adults and kids alike.Even though we were there mid august and the camp was full, the site is big enough so that you don`t feel packed in.There are 2 pools, 1 very large pool area which is the most popular and a slightly smaller area that has water slides which seemed to be less busy. That pool was better for us as we have a 4 year old and there is a large younger kids pool there also. The sun loungers go quicker at the bigger top pool than at the smaller bottom pool. There is also a smaller pool area further up the mountain(10 min walk)also. The bar and food halls and a large covered seating area is also next to the pools.(only covered at bottom pool). The food is quite reasonable.I read this site before i went and most comments were about the food,ie,expensive and very bland. They seem to have sorted out the food problem,it was quite good, but still a bit over priced, ie, sausage, egg, chips was about 5-6 euros (about £4.).The beer is san miguel and it ice cold when poured The price of a 1/2 pint was 1.95 euros(about £1.20) the same amount of coke was about the same.Overall the prices are slightly high but they always are on these type of places. It is cheaper in the local town(l`estartite)for a lot of things,ie,beer, food, ice creams etc. The town is very nice especially the beeches, they are very good.A few english bars,we managed to watch the Man utd/Chelsea match with a few cheap beers. The bar is called yj`s. One area that let the site down was the toilets, they did`nt clean them regular enough for my liking even after complaining. The security at night is very good, they like quiet after midnight and rowdy people are not tolerated so beware. To sum it up,better coach journey than i thought it would be,overall the site is very good, plenty to do,the weather was great,it did`nt feel crowded, some of the lodges can be a bit cramped, but hey you only shower and sleep in them, the reps are good and helpful,i would go back again with Siesta, Another good place we tried in estartit was the hotel flamingo,my parents stayed there and twice we ate there with them and for 9 euros(adult)7 euros(kids)non residents can eat there, the food is excellent, the evening meal is 4 course and you can go up as many times as you want(all they ask is that you don`t waste it).The hotel is very clean and tidy and the staff are polite and friendly and they all seem very hard working. They have apartments as well as hotel rooms. That is also by Siesta coaches,My parents said the price of the holiday was very reasonable for the mid august time and the facilities.they paid £309.00 pp 1/2 board. We are going to look at this place if we go to estartit again. I can definetaly recomend the two places and Siesta, especially if all you want to do is veg out by the pool and keep the kids happy. There is also a very good supermarket on site, again a bit more expensive than out of camp one`s but it is very well stocked.Ican be quite hard to please for holiday facilities but i would go back again,we went for 10 days and it was ideal, only difference i would make is a slightly bigger lodge/caravan. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ceigrup Villa Rental - Estartit Operator and Date: Bridgewater Travel Opinion submitted in Sept 2005 by : K Wardle 65 49 42 37 34 14 8 2 5mths Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: We found the resort to be very pretty with lots of restaurants and a lovely beach. There is a lovely bakers that serve good cappucinos! We only had 1 week at the end of the school holidays mainly for the kids to enjoy the swimming and get a bit of sun before going back to school. On our second day whilst out at the beach, we returned home to get the camera and found it missing, when we looked further all the bedrooms had been gone through with money, phone, cameras and duty frees stolen, even a bottle of shampoo from the bathroom! A knife had been left in our room too, we informed the police who came at once, they took the knife and gave us a report. The manager at the rental office said she wouldnt move us to another villa as the same would happen again, and assured us that now they had been once they wouldnt come back. The robbers had used a master key to enter the locked gates and door, hence there was no damage getting in. My travel insurance (Tesco) will not pay out for our losses as there was no smashed window or door! This seems to be a common occurance in the area and was not hilighted to us. So if you go there beware, dont leave anything in your villa. The rest of the week went well even though we felt uneasy, the miniture golf course was a good evening entertainment for the children with amusements and a bar that also served cappucinos! Dont think we would rush back there though, and if we did and robbers visited, I would kick the door in myself to cover my losses on any insurance claim. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Del Sol Apartments - Estartit Operator and Date: (Portland Direct) Portland Direct - October 2004 Opinion submitted in Nov 2004 by : D. after reading the comments on this site. Booking online with
Portland,(part of Thomson Holidays
The Del Sol apartments are fine - nice and clean, relatively spacious, with a reasonably sized pool. However, even though we went at the end of the season, the rooms were noisy - sound insulation is non-existent -(we could hear next door's conversations perfectly!)This wasn't an issue with the apartments almost empty, but noise must be a real problem in the summer. The cooking facilities are basic - two rings - and the hob layout could be dangerous for children - the hob is part of a stainless steel unit, with no guard, that also forms the sink and worktop. My children never learned to distinguish between the hob area and the sink and almost burned themselves on the kettle a couple of times. Out of season, Estartit is an odd place. The apartments are set on the edge of the resort and you have to travel through a few blocks of ugly concrete apartment blocks with shut up shops in order to reach the beach and resort, (ten -fifteen minute walk). Most of the bars and restaurants were closed, as were the various children's amusement parks dotted around the back streets. On the whole this probably wasn't a bad thing, as most of them looked dreadful, but it was a surprise to find that many of the shops had also closed for the winter! The main shopping area is a pedestrianised street just behind the beach road as you approach the marina. It's small, with very few shops and restaurants, most of which were closing at the end of October. However, we can recommend Cal Tet on this street, a tapas bar/restaurant, which seems to be popular with locals, and serves a good range of dishes. The locals seem to shop in either Girona or Torealla de Montgri. The bus stop for both of these destinations, (you can't reach anywhere else by bus as far as we could discover), is located just to the right of the Tourist Information Centre on the beach road if you are facing towards the sea. The bus to Girona, which travels through Torealla, goes at widely spaced intervals, (11.15 and 2.15), and takes an hour to get to Girona, (return buses at 7.15 and 9.15). We went to Girona by bus, which was easy to do as it stops in Girona's bus station which is just outside the medieval and main shopping areas. From this bus/train station, you can travel on to other destinations. Girona is lovely and well worth a visit. It also has good shops! Back in Estartit, we were struggling to entertain ourselves. The beach at Estartit is large, and, in October, empty. The views from the seafront are pretty and the area isn't too built up, but once you've walked along the beach road once, there's not a lot else to do! The sea was too rough to swim in when we were there, apart from a sheltered and very small area by the marina, which presumably is packed in the summer. However, we didn't go swimming, as the weather was too cold most of the time. The temperatures varied by as much as ten degrees C in one day, which meant that jumpers and jeans were needed as well as a bit of suncream! It was sunny and warmish at times, but dull, windy and cold at others. Fortunately the downpours only came at night! We took a boat trip around the Ileas Medes on the Octopussix catamaran, (part of the Nautilus outfit). It was expensive and the sea was quite rough, but the kids enjoyed it. Unfortunately, we allowed ourselves to be persuaded by our children into buying plates that contained their photos! Next time, we'll just refuse to have their pictures taken - much simpler! We heard, whilst on holiday, that Thomson Holidays
We were desperate after a couple of days to hire a car, but one

the Thomson Holidays
In the end we had a car for three days and it saved our holiday. We visited Pals, a nearby medieval walled town, which is absolutely beautiful, as well as La Bisbal for the market. This takes up most of the town centre's ancient streets on Friday mornings, and is interesting enough for that alone. However, unless you are looking for huge elasticated pants, multi-packs of socks and/or shopping trolleys, don't go in the expectation of finding exciting purchases! We visited the ruins at Empuries and at Ullestrat which were interesting and located in beautiful areas. Visiting Tossa de Mar was a highlight of our trip, as the ruined castle is beautiful and the tiny streets interesting to walk around. Our most interesting visit was to the Dali museum at Figueres. It's nine euros for adults, but small children get in free. My eight year old absolutely loved it! I've always found Dali a bit weird and frightening, but he was ecstatic about the art and couldn't stop talking about it! We also drove to the bays of Calella de Palafrugall, Tamariu and LLafranc, all of which are very beautiful. Whilst in Llafranc, we ate at a restaurant called Badia or Bahia, where the service and the food were good. On the whole, our experience in shops and restaurants everywhere we went was very poor; there were numerous instances where we were either ignored or treated rudely, so our experience at Llafranc made a pleasant change. This surliness towards visitors did affect our enjoyment of the holiday. We visited Cyprus in the summer and experienced some of the same treatment, so perhaps it's just us! However, the Catalan locals seemed to dislike all tourists, including the Spanish, with an equal intensity. Perhaps it was because it was the end of the season and they'd had enough, but it was still somewhat offputting. Overall, we enjoyed our visit to the Costa Brava. The scenery is breathtaking, but you really need a car to fully experience the incredible beauty of the region. We wouldn't go back to Estartit as it had little to offer us after a day or two, but the people lacked the warmth to incite us to return to the general area at any point in the near future. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Del Sol Apartments - Estartit Operator and Date: (Portland Direct) Portland - July / August 2004 Opinion submitted in Aug 2004 by : Judith and Frank Leetch and kids (41,45,13,10,2) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: 20th July 2004 - 3rd August 2004 We were not expecting anything fantastic due to the relatively low price we paid for this 2 week self catering holiday at the Del Sol Appartments but we had a wonderful time. The appartments are really clean, spacious, well equipped and look like they have been recently decorated and maintained. They are the best we have stayed in. All appartments look out onto the pool or pool/playground areas. The pool and area around it is really clean with plently of sun beds. There is a sign to say "no inflatables, eating at the pool area,no running, picnicing on the grass, no t-shirts in the pool" etc but no one takes any notice of this. When we booked we were aware that there is no entertainment at the appartments just a poolside bar which closes in the evenings at about 10.30pm. But don't let this put you off as it is wonderful to return to the peace and quiet after so much other entertainment on offer in Estartit. When we first arrived in Estartit we thought that it was quite small, quiet and perhaps a bit boring. But there is so much to do. The streets unwind to offer even more surprises - such as lovely shops, bars, restaurants, fairgrounds for the kids, parks etc. It really is a lovely place to holiday. The walk to the beach is only 5 - 8 mins away (depending on how fast you walk) but we didn't discover the quick route until our second week. The walk to the harbour is a bit further - about 15 - 20 mins but it is enjoyable and flat with loads of bars and restaurants en route. The weather was fantastic - no need for cardis. Local supermarkets stock everything you need. We ate out most nights but a few nights we ate at the appartment - pizza from the supermarket is only 3.80Euros and is absolutely gorgeous.Cava is very cheap too. Toni's Bar does a good 3 course meal for about 7 Euros. We ate there a few times. The Toucan Bar on the front by the beach is quite cheap but the best meals were at the Miami Bar - just around the corner from the appartments. Entertainment is very good there too but doesn't get going until about 10ish for the kids - an hour or so later than advertised. The staff are very friendly and work very hard - serving food, drinks, acting and dancing - and they do the "Almost full Monty" too. The Blau Park Hotel is opposite the Del Sol and we used their pool with funslide a few times. And the bar with live singer. We didn't do any trips as we couldn't be bothered to get up early so we just crashed out. There is a market on Thursdays which was just like any other really. Nothing fantastic. There is plenty to do on the beach if you want to - watersports, pedaloes etc.The Noddy train is good - 3 Euros for a round trip. We would definitely consider going again - especially as the flying time from Gerona to Cardiff was only 1 hour 20 mins on the return journey.By the time you've had your meal you're getting off. The only complaint is that the hairdryer blew up on the first day. Also, there's only one miror and that's in the bathroom. You feel very safe and relaxed in Estartit - and are happy to let the children go to the shops etc alone. Allex age 10 left het handbag at three different restaurants on seperate occasions - and when she realised - about an hour later and returned they were still there - untouched!! Estartit is highly recommended - and not tacky. Pity that Portland (TUIGroup) aren't using these appartments in the future. I would consider booking direct. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Del Sol Apartments - Estartit Operator and Date: (Portland Direct) Portland - May 2004 Opinion submitted in June 2004 by : Malcolm - South West Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: This holiday was taken as the tour companies special offer i.e. that travel date and accomodation were were fixed for a very low price, so we did not necessarily expect the best. However we were not disappointed as the standard of accomodation was very good. The apartment was clean ,fresh, and well appointed with two large bedrooms. As it was early season the diner/bar were not open but there is ample choice of restraunts within easy reach and an abundance of bars to suit most tastes. The pool looked clean though at this time of year perhaps a little cold for some. The local beach is a long stretch of clean sand and is only a few minutes walk away. For what was booked as a cheap bargain break the location and apartments offered excellent value for money, for the same cost as you would pay for a weekends b&b in the UK. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Del Sol Apartments - Estartit Operator and Date: (Portland Direct) Portland Direct - 2004 Opinion submitted in Aug 2004 by : 43, 41, 13, 12, 10 Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: Apartment's very basic with not a lot of sound proofing and no entertainment. In fact not much in the way of entertainment in Estartit. The Festamar appartments are ideal for a small self catering family and the appartment came equiped with all the house hold cutlery and utensils that we needed to see us through the week, even and iron and ironing board. The appartments has its own pool and this was a welcome break during the mid day heat. The beach is a two minute walk from the appartment and you will pass one of the many childrens play areas that are dotted around Estartit. The beach itself is very clean as it is raked early every morning and has board walks situated along its length to enable prams to be taken onto the beach but the areas either side of the board walks get very busy in the late morning/early afternoon. There are many supermarkets to choose from but the nearerst is a one minute walk from the appartments and has everything that you will ever need for the duration of your stay, from nappies to beer. The town centre is very spread out and centres around one main shopping street which is roughly ten minutes from the appartments and if you cannot find it in this street then believe me, you dont need it. There are lots of places to eat and many of the restaurants cater for small children, offering smaller versions of the adult meals or just good old fish fingers and chips. There are also lots of restaurants that do take aways although i would stay clear of the China Town restaurant as we found that the meat in the take aways was a lot poorer quality than that of the sit down meals. On the whole we had a fantastic time and would definately go back again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Festamar Apartments - Estartit Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

There was a welcome pack of washing up liquid, bin bags, and cleaning cloths. There WAS one toilet roll in bathroom. The beds are comfortable but I didn't sleep too well because the seagulls made quite a noise all through the night, everyone else slept fine though. After the first night we all had a good nights sleep. Dinos closes at 1.00am so its best not to try and get to sleep before then. We were all really impressed with the apartments they were clean and tidy, if anything was missing from them the staff were quick to replace it. Estartit is a very nice quiet resort we were able to keep ourselves amused for about 10 days without going away from resort. (Tip for beach buy your own parasol and beach mats at shop around corner from Festamar as each item cost 4Euros to hire on beach and if you want to go to beach a lot it soon adds up.) You can stay out until 3.00am if you want to, there is a good family bar called The Tropics about 5 mins walk. Brannigans & Baracuda served good food at very reasonable prices. The local Indian restaurant was fantastic especially for vegetarians. We tried one Chinese restaurant which was terrible for vegetarians (so my daughter sat and watched us eat then went back to Brannigans to have her meal). We did one trip away from Estartit to a local Water Park AquaBrava we had a great day there but it did take about 2 hours each way in the coach. We booked our excursion just around the corner from apartments at a local agency next to the launderette (another useful shop to know about. It was nice to holiday in a resort that is not too commercialised. We went on the Barcelona football and fountains trip which was excellent although our snorkeling trip had to be cancelled due to strong winds. Restaurants and bars in estartit are very nice - only had one bad meal out of 7. Santa Anna is lovely with shops that don't just sell tourist trash. Took a bus ride to Torrello (not sure of spelling but a beautiful place) We going to hire a car or go to Girona but the children were happy to stay in the resort. All in all a safe place to be. Dino's bar is very good - food looked nice although we did not eat there. Roy is great fun and also arranges family bowling, bike rides and golf along with the usual quizes and bingo. After going to our 1 bed apartment, we found it to be more than adequate for our needs, all the crockery, cooking utensils, cutlery etc was brand new.It had a kettle and microwave, again both new.On arrival at the room we found that we had been left a cleaning pack, consisting of black refuse sacks(4),washing up liquid(small),2 scouring pads and 2 cleaning cloths. The living room was spacious and the bedroom was large too. Some reviews stated that there was no toilet paper provided,we found this not to be the case. Some reviews also said you had to make your own beds, again this was not the case as the maids made the beds when they came in to clean the room. This season they have put a portable tv in the rooms that is free to watch(no box on the side to put money in),though it has only got 10 channels and only 2 are in english,BBC1 & BBC NEWS24). We requested a pool view and a high floor before arrival and we got exactly what we asked for,we were allocated room 206 on the 2nd floor with a lovely view of the pool and Dinos bar.The room was in an ideal location as we got the sun as soon as it came up until about 1pm.The pool is not exactly olympic size and would probably get too crowded during peak season but we found it to be ideal for the time of year we were there(some reviews say you cannot take inflatables in to the pool but we saw plenty of people with them in there). There is a security guard/nightwatchman that comes on after the bar shuts at 1.00 am but we did not see him needed as there was no trouble while we were there. The welcome meeting is held at 11 am but its only worth attending if you want to book excursions (ripoff),or get a free glass of Sangria. The reps are very rarely about if you need them but we did not have any complaints,so did not need to get hold of them. The reps will also try to get you to book an excursion to the market in Gerona,DO NOT book it as the exact same market is right outside the hotel on Thursdays and it is a massive market with all the stalls selling everything from air pistols(illegal to bring into this country),to sunglasses, clothes, watches(cheap),etc. The hotel and the surrounding areas are always kept immaculate,no litter or cigarette ends lying about, the poolman comes round every morning about 6.30 to clean the poolside and pool, and also hose down the area surrounding the pool. The sunbeds are plentiful and comfortable,(they are the blue canvass ones, not the white plastic things that break and nip your bum :)).There is also plenty of shade if you dont want to be out in the sun too much,(Dinos bar/terrace is an ideal place to sit out of the sun,but still be near the pool). Dinos is a nice place to go for a drink or snack or even a main meal,(though the drinks prices are a little higher than outside the hotel). The food is of a good quality and there is a decent selection. The bar staff are very friendly and are always smiling. The hotel entertainer is a guy called Roy (if you see him, tell him Hi rom Kev & Jean from Teesside),he does his best to make the holiday entertaining, but karaoke, bingo and the odd quiz, does get a bit boring after a while. There is some entertainment for kids(mini-disco, a few party games),but nothing much. The reps will turn up one or two nights to help entertain the kids for an hour or two but again, there is not much for the kids to do. There is a BBQ every Friday in Dinos, but at 11.50 Euros for a bit of chicken, some crusty bread,a sausage, kebab and a glass of Sangria,we found it to be expensive. There is a nice little English shop for everything you need if you are self catering like us,its called The Larder & its only a 2min walk from the hotel(come out of Dinos front entrance, turn right, cross the road, turn first left, walk about 100 yards, there is a newsagents on the corner,The Larder is right next door). The best places we found for real English food were Cafe Barrcuda(right next door to the hotel, turn right from Dinos front entrance, first right past the cycle hire shop, its about 15 yards down),a place called Brannigans(again right outside the hotel opposite the front entrance to Dinos),and a small english pub called Bryliz(about a 10 minute walk from the hotel). The food in Estartit itself is quite good and caters to all tastes from burgers to seafood to steaks and grills. Now on to the resort itself, what can we say,if you are looking for an adventure packed holiday, forget it,there are few are far between places to go and even fewer things to do.The beach is 2mins walk away and is clean and safe for kids and adults alike, the sea is cold but nice, not too deep as the shore slopes very gently into the sea,if you want to have a drink or some food, take your own as there is only one bar/cafe on the whole beach. The walk to the marina will take you about 20mins along the beach, but there is hardly any shops, bars or restaurants/cafes along the way.The main shopping centre is in a street called Santa Anna Street which is close to the marina centre, but again if you are looking for bargains this is not the place to go.There is a lack of water sports in the area too unless you want to take a scuba diving trip to the nature reserve just off the coast. If you did not know, they have changed the laws on buying tobacco products in Spain, you can not buy cigarettes/tobacco in supermarkets any more, you need to go to a tobacconists for them and though it is still cheaper than here to buy its still not cheap. All in all we had a really good time at the Festamar and would return there again if there was more to do in the resort itself. Please do not let this or other reviews put you off going to the Festamar as it is a beautiful hotel, but be sure you want a quiet holiday if you go to Estartit. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Festamar Apartments - Estartit Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

Opinion submitted in Sept 2005 by : Kim Burrell - Northumberland (35,44,11,8) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: This was a last minute booking but named accommodation so we knew where we were going. Didn't bank on getting a room opposite another hotel owned by the same company where the guests would begin their balcony party at 4am! We ended up buying cottonwool balls from the supermarket to try to drown out some of the noise. A few nights into our holiday, some guests from the hotel opposite came out onto their balcony while we were sitting on our's having a nice bottle of wine, and started firing pellets into the street with a rifle. This was reported to the security guard who immediately went over to sort it out. After that they were fairly quiet and went home a couple of days later. Then the family from hell came to stay in the Festamar. Totally obnoxious, foul mouthed kids trying to intimidate other kids. The aults were drunk for most of the time and even ended up fighting in the bar two nights. Not what you would expect in a family hotel. Maid service was once a week and the rooms weren't cleaned properly so we ended up cleaning the floor etc ourselves. Also be prepared to put your own sheets on the beds as the maids just leave them in a pile in your room and it is up to you to put them on the bed. Also the door onto the balcony didn't have proper locks on so I'm pleased we weren't on the ground floor. On a positive note however, they did do nice meals at Dino's bar and the entertainment was good. The trip to Marineland is well worth it with an excellent show with the dolphins and sealions, but the football and fountains trip to Barcelona was a big disappointment. The beach, which is only a 5 minute walk from the Festamar is beautiful. The sea can get quite rough, but is nice and shallow for kids. There was always a nice breeze so it wasn't too hot for the kids. Ken, the sun bed man is a lovely man and a good laugh. There is a nice quaint street full of shops just up from the harbour and if you like ice cream you must visit the ice cream shop that sells over 100 flavours including Guinness, Actimel, Skittles, Toblerone etc. The After Eight ice cream is well recommended! I would definitely not stay at the Festamar again, but having said that it might not be as noisy at other times of the year. Even so I don't think it was worth the money that we paid and definitely wouldn't rate it as 3 star. I would say probably 2 star if they were lucky. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Festamar Apartments - Estartit Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : Mam 42, Dad 41 and Son 9 from North East Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: Festamar Apartments ok but would not go again. Rooms basic but ok. They were not cleaned at all in the two weeks we were there and the bedding was changed twice, mind you, the beds werent made, sheets just left, you had to make the beds yourself. Food at Dino's bar ok and quite cheap, we ate there about twice. Normally ate out at different places each night. Clancy's which is a Scottish pub (quite difficult to find, it is down a sort of side street) had lovely food and reasonable priced, also Barracuda's right next door to Festamar, we ate there quite a lot. Wonderful beach area with lots of shops, pubs and resturants to vist. We went on a trip to Barcelona stadium and then magic fountains, this was a highlight of our holiday and is a must if you go to Estartit. Back to the Festamar, this hotel is the place to be if all you want to do is sit by the pool all day with nothing to do (no entertainment to speak of) and let your children run wild and then on an evening sit in the bar getting drunk every night with the only entertainment on offer being Karaoke. Lots of SWEARING and BAD LANGUAGE from some of the adults and CHILDREN (not all may I add), this made it impossible to spend any time around the pool or in Dino's bar as I didnt want to listen to(or allow my son)to listen to that all day and night. We spent all day out of the hotel and tended to go out each evening and return to Dino's bar at about 11.30 for the last half hour. I was so tired while I was there as it was impossible to sleep at night for the noise, guests above, either side and below making noise, moving furniture and guests coming home at all times of the night slamming doors, moving furniture, singing and shouting etc. one good point, my 9 year old son loved it, he was somehow able to sleep through the noise. He went to kids club most days and made so many friends so any time spent in hotel was ok for him as he just played with his mates. Estartit not too bad would consider going back there but Festamar, I would never go back to. If it had not been too noisy and you didn't have to listen to such bad language at times, this could be a nice hotel --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Festamar Apartments - Estartit Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : Becky - west bromwich (32, 32, 2) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Opinion: Estartit is a lovely resort with a wide sandy beach that never gets too busy, a good range of shops and eating places and a little train that kept our two year old in raptures. It doesn't get too hot due to the nice breeze and there are some top notch eateries - we particularly enjoyed Le Salines which is down by the very classy marina and for good family fun the barracuda bar which is next door. We went on two excellent trips with Panorama excursions (which were booked in resort avoiding the usual rep rip off) to Barcelona taking in the nou camp and the Costa Brava trip which took us to Lloret and Tossa by boat. Smashing. The Festamar proves the old adage 'you get what you pay for'. We went on a Peter Kayesque 'booked it, packed it,...' deal and weren't expecting too much. So we weren't disappointed. The room was luckily on the ground floor at the front avoiding the horrendous din from 'Dinos' but it did stop quite early at night. The room was quite big but very basic with prison style beds with plastic undersheets (nice in hot weather) and a lovely coating of sand from the previous occupants - perhaps they wanted the beach experience to greet you upon arrival. Beds aren't made - sheets are just dumped in your room. The pool is fair enough but the real problem with the Festamar was the other guests. 90% of them are nice people. 10% of them are the cast of shameless. Fat, drunken sunburnt plonkers who sat by the pool all day, swearing, shouting, divebombing while their kids ran about mental on coke and chips. We still had a lovely holiday as we stayed out all day and avoided 'Dinos' and the pool louts like the plague but it's not fair to us nice people when we can't use facilities we've paid for. Honourable mention should go to two people - the night porter who strode around like the terminator with his handcuffs and truncheon who kept the chavs in order at night and the bloke in the apartment upstairs who would come out and shout at the noisy people the porter missed. I salute you. If you've booked the Festamar don't panic - estartit is lovely and the beach is very close. If you haven't booked it yet - if it's not a super duper mega bargain don't bother. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Festamar Apartments - Estartit Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: As you can see,we stayed at the Festamar in mid summer and the only negative about the holiday was that there was no air conditioning.I really think that in this day and age, especially in such good accommodation that air con. should be standard. It was stuffy to say the least. Tke whole complex was spotless and the Festamar and Thomson Holidays
The pool is a very good size and well kept, but if you fancy the beach, you are in luck.It is one of the best beaches in Spain having gained it's "blue flag" recently. Food at the Festamar(Dino's) is basic.Don't get me wrong,it's o.k. for breakfast and a snack i.e.full english, toasties, burgers etc. For an evening dinner though, you are spoiled for choice. There are two or three very good restaurants only a couple of mins. walk from the Festamar(We would strongly recommend the Rembrandt),and if you take a 10 min. walk in towards the harbour area you will find many more. Entertainment was very much with the family in mind and ran from around 8 till 12 ish. First time to Festamar and Estartit and must say we had a great time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Festamar Apartments - Estartit Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

My 10 year old was fully entertained with the fabulous kids clubs, the hotel entertainment and the games room. We went with 3 other families and had a great time. Everthing is within walking distance. The beaches are clean and uncluttered. Go to brannigans for all your meals which is just accross the road from the festimar, everthing is tasty and comes in very large portions. the festimar offers a good choice of food as well. The rooms are big enough, we were in a 2 bed apartment. It was clean and the kitchen has everything you need IF you want to cook. The staff are very friendly. The reps are at hand all day if you have any problems. Its a great place to go if your looking for a family holiday. Not too busy a resort and not full of lagar louts. We had abrilliant time. The apartments were a good size and clean. the food in Dinos is excellent and the staff are really friendly. Roy kept us all entertained in the evenings. The kids loved the pool and the games room. Plenty of restaurants to eat in Brannigans Baracudas and Kims are just a few that we tried. We were five minutes from the beach. The reps were excellent and the security guard was really good with the kids. We made loads of friends and we enjoyed our holiday so much at the festamar that we are going in tomorrow to book again for the same 2 weeks next year. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Festamar Apartments - Estartit Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : Linda - Kent (46, 44, 16, 11) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: This was our first holiday to Estartit and we would highly reccomend both the resort and the apartments. Festamar apartments are basic but extremely clean on arrival. Apparments were a good size (we opted for a 2-bed and were lucky to have a very large balcony with sea views). Room was cleaned (?) mid-week but was pretty pointless as all they did was remove the sheets and gave us our first toilet roll of the holiday!! (HINT - take your own toilet roll). Be prepared to put clean sheets on the beds after the cleaners. The entertainment at Dino's was good and varied (including bingo, karaoke and a music quiz). Pool was ok but extremely busy so would reccomend the beach. Games room was too hot, dark and dingey however, it did contain the only air hockey table in the complex!!! Dino's Bar offered a good menu choice at reasonable prices and the best cooked breakfast around! Hotel staff were generally very friendly and the complex was very safe with good security. Supermarket is 2 minute walk from hotel. Beautiful beach is 5 minute walk from hotel - sea can be a little rough but is quite shallow. Thursday market outside the hotel is well worth a visit - stretches for miles. Lovely shops to be found on quaint shopping street leading from harbour to church square. One negative point to Estartit - LOTS of walking! We would reccomend one of the chinese buffet restaurants as they are good value for money. Also the Taverna del mar restaurant ( a minute walk from the hotel) is well worth a visit as they offer a good range of food and a good service. Avoid Kims restaurant by the harbour unless you want to wait an hour for 4 sandwiches!! Visit Brannigans Irish Bar (1 minute walk from hotel) especially on a wednesday - live music from Kiwi Chad on accoustic guitar - Brilliant!!!! Glass bottom boat trips are a must especially the Marina Princess. Getting round the resort is easy via the little 'noddy' train leaving every hour outside the hotel. Overall we all had a wonderful holiday and would go back tommorow if we could! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Festamar Apartments - Estartit Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : 36,36,2 Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: we arrived at the festamar in good spirits after having a quite nice meal on the plane and a trouble free flight and transfer. immediately i was troubled to see that we were on the 3 rd floor with a 2 yr old with patio doors that basically just slide back and forth, no key type lock whatsoever???? asked for a ground floor apartment (in spanish i hasten to add as multilinguism does not appear to have reached estartit) and was fobbed off with manana manana . firstly the excursions...... if you like sitting on a coach for 3-7 hrs a day go for them ,no toilets on coach but they do sell beer/soft drinks etc. i found it cheap to hire a car through the reps for 7 days and we moved about independently-figueres, begur aguiablava and le escala are all recommended.in estartit itself the glass bottom boats are worth the trip although they are properly rough on the way out (i was handed seasickness baggy by helpful crew member:-) the best place to eat in estartit is "le gaviota" 50 yrds left of where the main road to the beach hits the beach, fresh lobster langoustines razor clams etc etc fish lovers delight for 100 euro for 3 . as for dinos and barracudas and nora batty's what can i say "you are what you eat " so i would say dont eat this stuff -its like food you get on sink estates only 10 times worse, for the same money you can get 2 or 3 tapas which is much nicer (but need to travel out a bit) those vents in the festamar you see in the brochure???? dont worry its not airconditioning ,its pretend aircon. alos the beds are surely imported from some kind of east german stasi prison ,by far the worst beds i have ever had the displeasure to sleep on(we complained about the beds and were told some people loved them -hmmmm) also the curtains are like fag papers you could read the paper through them. the reps did their best at entertainment especially roy but it was 2nd rate not a great deal to do in the rest of estartit of a night mostly shuts at 1 ish so dont go here on a stag do. the apartments were clean but basic we paid 35 euros for a late check out but the chief cleaning lady was trying to kick us out at 5.30 when we had paid till 6 ,i gave her a mouthful in spanish and she retreated to her lair costa brava is a lovely part of spain as it is a bit cooler for little kids but i think next time i will rent a villa and fly separately would cost approx the same overall 5/10 for the festamar --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Festamar Apartments - Estartit Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

Here a few of the audibles that were hitting our ears of a nightime/early morning, 1. Amarillo, being sung badly, repeatedly. 2. Children, running up and down corridors. 3. Children/Adults screaming, swearing, shouting obscenities. 4. The Bins being emptied around 3am by alarge mechanical dustbin van. 5. Banging Doors. 6. Children using the lift as some kind of fairground ride. 7. The Constant scraping of chairs, beds, doors, from the rooms above, and to the side of you. As if this wasn't bad enough, we have a one year old baby, that was constantly being woken up... After an ongoing Saga with the Thomson Holidays
How many places have you stayed in which there is a security guard, sporting a pair of handcuffs, and a dangerous looking truncheon? and that the reps are at the apartments for a good 6 hours a day, with a steady queue of people waiting to complain? The actual resort isn't too bad, nice big sandy beach, some good restaurants, and bars, good supermarkets. Wouldn't return to the Festamar, in a million years, and certainly
wouldn't use Thomson Holidays

They were very very clean with a fantastic veiw off the pool. They are very spacious. Safty deposit boxes are avalible in the reception area. There is a games room for the kids and there is no need to worry as there is a security guard on site who does not let the children out off the complex unless occumpined by an adult. The pool was great. With a baby pool for the little ones. The water is a bit cold at first though but it is just what you need as the weather is fantastic. Dino's bar (which is inside the complex its sefl) was fantastic with entertainment everynight. Whether it being karaoke night, or the kids zone disco, quiz night. It was great. And Roy the DJ was so funny and great with the kids. The area around the complex is very friendly. There is a supermarket just around the corner, and the beach is right on your doorstep. The restaraunts int the area are very good and the food is really nice. All in all the holiday has to be one off the best we have had it was fantastic and we will certainly be going back soon. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Festamar Apartments - Estartit Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

However we had expected that. The apartments were very clean. The staff are all friendly and helpful, so are the reps. The bar Dinos has entertainment every night which was busy and enjoyable. The games room was okay. The pool was freezing. We paid 2euros each and used the warm indoor pool at the nearby hotel Panorama. The fair was open at weekend and is only small but it has the best restaurant in the resort (Jocks). The beach and sea are great and only 30 seconds walk away. The weather was cool at times and we needed a light jacket. It was pleasently warm the rest of the time. We did come home with a healthy glow. The local market is on a thursday just outside the apartments,so dont book a trip to go elsewhere. We did do the Medevel night. They said they we could drink as much as you like but they refused further wine after you had drank your bottle. Also the entertainment wasnt up to much.It was ok for our 5 year old,but otherwise is a waste of money. The trip to Barcelona to see the football stadium and magic fountain was fantastic, i would definatly recommend it. The kidsclub reps were brill too. My son loved it. Our moans were; you have to supply your own toilet roll, you have an individual hot water boiler so only have enough water for 1 bath, you have to clean your own room and strip your beds yourselves, the waterpark is closed, and there are flies all over the resort. The moans are easily out numbered by the good points! If the weather had been awful it would have been a terrible holiday, we were told by locals that it was good weather for that time of year, so we were lucky. We had a great time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Festamar Apartments - Estartit Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
