Sidari Hotels and Apartments D - K Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: Cosmis August 2006 Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : Sword, Jones, Thelwell,Corbin, party of 14 ages ranging from 50 down to 1 year Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: We had 2 x 2 bedroomed apartments and 2 studios for our party of 14 people,we found them to be very basic with not enough dishes, cutlery etc. The baby cot was not in the room and the cost was an extra 55 euros. We arrived at about 6.30 am after a night flight and found no-one to show us to our apartments. There was a list of names and room numbers on the front doors of the reception and the keys were left in each door. A poor first impression to start with. The maid service was average, but we got the impression that they were not too bothered about cleaning as long as they emptied the bins. The bathroom slipmat was removed after the first couple of days and was not replaced, we had to place our towels on the floor of the bathroom to prevent the young ones from slipping over in the bathroom. Most of the people working there were friendly and helpful but the bar and food service was slow. You should appreciate that as this is a family run business, they do not have any other helpers but perhaps if they invested in more staff, the place would be better run. Georgios and Dennis were fantastic and friendly, very good with the children. The swimming pool was the hotels best asset, being large in size and very clean.Evenings at the hotel were boring but for 5 euros you can take a taxi into Sidari for good food and entertainment. The food menu in Damia hotel was a bit boring, we what we sampled was cooked well. Try The Three Little Pigs for a gorgeous meal and the BED bar for a great meal, cheap, loads of it and entertainment thrown in. For a great Sunday Roast, try The Rose Garden, first class meal and a pudding for 10.50 adult price. For good all round family entertainment, Babylon Bar was our favourite, no food here though. The usual stuff in the shops as in all holiday resorts. We were most disappointed in the beaches, we were hoping to find some nice sandy spot for the kids, but it was mostly shingle and stones. Warning about Car Hire, we hired 2 small mini bus's and asked for child seats and booster cushions. They were a disgrace, the booster cushion was an old cushion of someones couch! The baby seats just hooked over the back of the seat, not at all good enough. Only one seat belt worked in one of the vans. So if you plan to hire a car, its best to go the one of the big rental companies. Overall, our holiday was still a happy one, despite disappointment in some areas. The most annoying thing about the holiday was our last day. We had to vacate the rooms at 10am on the Monday and our pick up time was 00.15 Tuesday morning. We asked to keep a couple of the rooms but were told that every room was taken and had to be ready early for guests to arrive. 14 hours without a room to rest when travelling with young children is just too much, so we crossed over to the other side of the street , Joy Life, and rented a room there for the day for just 20 euros! We did not need to hand the key back until we saw our coach approaching, we had the use of the hotel facilities, made our own tea/coffee and were able to have some sleep late afternoon. We also stayed round the pool at Damia and watched and waited. Two guests arrived at 2pm in the afternoon and another 6 people at 7pm. So there were rooms available, they just didnt want to pay the maids to have to come back later. So Damia actually lost out, not only did we rent a room over the road, but we did not spend a penny at Damia until we left there after midnight, we just popped across the road to the other hotel and spent our cash there, the food was cheaper and nicer as well. So although we still had a good time,we are in agreement that we would not return to Damia Hotel and some of us would not reurn to Greece at all. Sorry about the essay, but there was much to be said. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: Archers Direct June / July 06 Opinion submitted in July 2006 by : Dave, Lyn, Samantha & Nathan Copp (47,47,12,11) Northampton Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: This is our 3rd year at Damia's Hotel again a very warm and freindly welcome, we are treated as freinds and not a room number and have known and communicated over the year with Damia, it was soon very apparent things were not ok. She has had problems with Cosmos and the sister company Archers, to the extent that this will be the last season they are going there, she has allready come to an agreement with Sunset and its parent company for part 2006 and 2007, but also will be offering her own brochure and direct bookings from now on as well. Damia can be contacted by e-mail but remember she is a busy lady and it may take a while to respond. This year see's all new staff at the complex, the cleaning staff unfortunately do let her down, on complaining to her in the first week, was told to leave it with her, she sacked one of the maids. In week 2 was afraid to complain when the towels & rubbish were not sorted as per the schedule. Damia has now opened a small gift shop and can supply the full duty free allowance should you so wish at the same price as anywere else, so why struggle with the shopping, water can now also be obtained from the complex. The local supermarket is only 500 meters away and it has undergone extension and as we were leaving all shelves were not full but improving on a daily basis. Out and about it is a 25 min walk to Sidari or a 5 euro taxi ride, well worth it in the heat of the day and the darkness of night. Restaraunts- damia's own offers a daily special 2 choices or the normal menu can seem a bit limited but on asking most things are possible and produced, very accomodating and at reasonable price. The Orchard out of Damia's turn left 1st right then about 15 min walk is a fantastic place ate here several times and could not fault it's food or freindlyness, Damia's Yard in canal d'mour huge portions, good price and Spiros (Damias Husband) will do his very best for you and now his English is improving will try talking to you more. Unfortunately this year can no longer reccomend Churhills not what they used to be, by voting with the feet may be they will improve. Sidari town and other shops beware with younger children as hard core prn is on the shelves quite often next to the toys. At night Sidari town takes on a different enviroment than during the day. The hotel complex is small 31 appartments in total, generally very well run. The pool is fantastic and to the rear so not overlooked by any passing traffic, and is a suntrap for the DAY. Damia, her husband Spiros, mum & dad (Lucy & Dimitri)and her 4 children (Dimitri, George, Nicco & Luki) will make you most welcome, Please remember this is a small family run complex with children about, usually very quiet from about midnight onwards as families have retired for the night, not reccommended if looking for a noisy (18-30)style holiday, rather a relaxing chill out type of holiday. Damia can arrange most thing for you from excange to car hire at a very competitive price, give her the time she may not jump at once and say 2 min (this means 1/2 hour in Corfu)but she will get round to it, she is a very busy lady. To some this may appear offensive but it is truly not her way, just that she tries to take on everything and please everybody as she is trying to make sure everybody has a good time. Remember a holiday is what you make it, relax and enjoy. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Cosmos Direct) Cosmos- june 2006 Opinion submitted in July 2006 by : claire paul -northamptonshire (26, 35,6,4) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: Have just spent 2 weeks at Damias. The place is lovely very clean and tidy and the pool is cleaned regularly. I thought id picked a good place to stay how wrong could i have been. Although the rooms were supposedly cleaned 3 times a week i feel they just made the beds, as the bins wasnt emptied, the bedding was changed once while we were there only had clean towels once a week and on one occasion we were given one large towel and 3hand towels betweeen the 4 of us. oh and also the cleaners would empty the ashtrays and put them in the sink with the washing up for us to wash.(how discusting we have to eat and drink from these. Anyway when you go to bar it takes about 5 mins or more to get served and the prices are very expensive. We hired a room on our last day as we had to vacate our room by 10am and our flight wasnt leaveing untill 3am the next morning this not being a problem though. The problem was we had to wait until 3pm for a room that we paid 35 euros for. the bathroom had mould on the celing and shower curtan and we had no bedding on the beds then to rub salt in the wound while we were out that night someone went into the room and took the kettle out so we couldnt even have a cup of tea before we left. So basically the hotel/appartmens are nice to look at but the way its run terible. Oh by the way if you do decide to stay at Damias i wouldnt recormend going the greek night there you will get fed a childs sized portion of food nothing at all as what is stated on her board. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Cosmos Direct) Cosmos - May /June 2006 Opinion submitted in June 2006 by : Peter Bradley -Nuneaton (53, 40 something) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Have just spent a week at Damia's and would recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday. The arrival welcome was very friendly and made in person by Damia (other arrivees were making their second visit) and we were all greeted in a very warm manner. The pool area is excellent with the whole facilty kept in a very clean condition. The resort of Sidari itself is aimed at the younger holidaymaker and is approx 1km away, however we hired a car and explored the numerous beaches about 20-30 minutes away on the west coast. Apart from one night out of 7 we ate at Damia's from the table menu or the specials off the board (2 different menus each night) or by asking what else was available ie. fish / pasta. The kitchens ( which were immaculate) and restaurant staff provided a high level of service and food quality. There is an informative booklet in the room explaining how the hotel likes to run, as in this day and age all businesses have to consider and demonstrate an understanding of the practical implications especially when health and safety are concerned --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Cosmos Direct) Cosmos - May 2006 Opinion submitted in June 2006 by : jayne, keith, becky, james. Chester 41,40, 14, 15 Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: After reading comments on here i wasnt sure what to expect, But im glad to say we had a great time, apts were very clean although could of done with bed sheets changing more often than twice in 2 weeks, and the water from taps was sometimes brown!! but Damia was more than helpful and was always on hand if you did need anything. Jimmy the barman and waiter in the day was excellent. The hotel is a bit far out of town but a gentle stroll in and it does take about 30 mins and a taxi back for 5 euros was fine, as it does go very dark on the road back at night and no lights on road up to hotel, but best to go into town as restaurant at hotel worked out very expensive, and food wasnt always up to much in the evening, but mythos and three little pigs restaurants are a must, with great food service and price. Also if you do want to go on trips dont book through rep, very expensive, much cheaper in town and you go on same trip as the rep one, we felt very cheated by this. but all in all we had a brilliant time, clean, friendly, plenty of sunbeds, and parasolls,(which do blow away in the wind so can see why they were put down) but had a very relaxing time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Cosmos Direct) Cosmos - 2006 Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : Baz and the 12 others! Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: We arrived at Damia's appartments and from the outside the appartments looked good. We arrived at the appartments and rooms we had were standard. Very cramped and had a smelt of damp. The first morning was dissapointing. Damia simply either likes you, or hates you. The bar staff of a night were superb and were great with the kids, but in the day, dont expect to be served with a smile or within 5 minutes. The service was very poor. Also if you are hungry between the hours of 2pm-7pm, you will have to eat else where. The food situation was laughable. We made alot of friends around the pool and this was the positive side. Sidari town is great, buzzing and very friendly. Try bed bar, the food is excellent and the nightlife is good for all ages. Personally we might go back to sidari, but thaqnkfully will never have to go here again. Bye Bye Damia's! Warning - make sure you take plenty of mosquito repellent and also be aware of the oversized wasps. Also DO NOT walk back to the appartments of a night time. Always taxi back for own safety. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Cosmos Discounts) Cosmos - September 2005 Opinion submitted in Oct 2005 by : 46,51 Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: No rating My/Our Holiday Opinion: We stayed at the Dami's Apartments in Sidari from 26th September 2005 to 10th September 2005. I must say that I have never been made to feel so unwelcome in my life. The staff never once welcomed us or returned our "Good Mornings" or "Hellos" instead all we got was glares. Consequently we never bought or drink or had a meal or even sat by the pool as we felt so uncomfortable. Our room had black mold on the walls and the maids rarely visited. We had our sheets changed once, 2 days into our holidays and never again after that On departure we were instucted by our Rep to leave the apartment keys in the back of the door as reception would be closed at our departure time 8.30 a.m. This we did, only to be confronted by a scraming woman, who basically accused us of being thick, I must say we we were not the only couple to do the same thing. The lady for management I have just mentioned was not happy at all when I suggested climbing over next door's balcony and going through the window to retrive the key as I think she wanted us to pay for a new door. Anyway if you want a nice friendly Hotel would not recommend Damia's Apartments!!!! Very pleased on arrival that we'd chosen this complex and facilities were basic for our stay.4 of everything!(apart from saucepans!) Don't plan to eat in!We ate once at Damia's Hotel(choice limited and food disappointing) but found a superb restaurant in Sidari-Mythos-not too far to walk-where we were made very welcome and food was excellent at a good price. Choose Damias if you have young children like her own. Be prepared not to fit in if you don't! Enough said! Thanks to Jo, the entertainer, who did her best taking down the parasols round the pool from children sheltering from the heat, because Damia said the wind was too strong!! a powerful lady! Also don't plan to cash travellers cheques there. The reception was not always staffed (took us two days to get the air conditioning) and even when Damia was there she was reluctant to cash any cheques and even under pressure wouldn't cash more than 150 euros as she "had no money". Strange when a round of drinks was costing us 20 euros! Before we went we read reviews about the "Hotel" being a family business. True. At the expense of customers.Don't try to play pool if a member of staff or Damia's children want to play! We had a good holiday with our friends but will not be returning to Damia's. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Cosmos Discounts) Cosmos August 2005 Opinion submitted in Sept 2005 by : Jill, Sussex, 4 Adults, children 18mths & 5 years Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: Having read all the comments on this site we were really looking forward to our 2 weeks at Damia's. Although the rooms and pool were as excellent as reported, we were very disappointed with the attitude of the owner and staff. The food in the restaurant was second rate and overpriced, bar prices expensive, and the entertainment was almost non-existent. Two Greek nights were cancelled while we were there and on other nights there were some half-hearted attempts at Bingo and Karaoke, very few attended these as the atmosphere left a lot to be desired, we did not see Damia doing anything but sitting about, and as for Jo the children's entertainer, the only time she did anything was once a day when she organised water polo. The only time we saw her with any children was when a camera crew arrived. We did not find the owner and staff (except maybe Nico the barman) friendly at all, in fact we often felt we were only there on sufferance ! Maybe they do not try so hard now that the complex is up and running and they have a contract with a travel agent. Apart from this it is a lovely place for families, the rooms were very good and the pool area lovely, not too crowded and friendly, with a lovely little children's pool and play park. ~There is a supermarket 5 minutes away which sells everything you might need, and you can walk into Sidari in about 20 minutes, or take a taxi for 5 euros. Once there you have everything you could wish for - beaches, watersports, shops, tavernas, and at night it comes alive with entertainment both for adults and children. The food selection and prices are unbelievable, everything you can think of and all freshly cooked and cheap as they are all vying for your business, most of them have high chairs and are wonderful with children. We never had a bad meal in Sidari so stopped eating at Damia's. All in all a good place to go, and if they can iron out the problems I have mentioned we would thoroughly recommend it for families, although if I go again it will be to a hotel in Sidari itself. A word of warning - in spite of Mosquito plug ins everyone got bitten a lot, but I am sure they were gnat bites rather than mosquitos ! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Cosmos Discounts) Cosmos -july 2005 Opinion submitted in Dec 2005 by : glynn diane sarah sam 45 43 15 12 Resort Rating: Below Average Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: We have been to Greece severel times and always loved it and the friendly people.Damias apartments were very clean, rooms were nice pool area excellent. But we have never known a management as inhospitable. Never a friendly smile how are you ? nothing! When reqesting to change travelers cheques (damias is quite a long way from resort centre banks etc.)They made it quite clear in severel ways that they didnt want to. The atmosphere in the evenings ,quiz nights ,kareoke etc. or even just a relaxing drink, reflected exactly the general feeling about the place. Hence we decided to go across the road to Joylife hotel for our evenings or for the last port of call before bed. There they were friendly ,welcoming and the evenings were FUN! GOOD ATMOSPHERE.It actually felt as though we were on holiday............We thought we were the only ones thinking this way until after severel days of being there we realised quite a few other families were of the same opinion. If you want a fun holiday,or even basic friendliness dont go to Damias --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Cosmos Discounts) Cosmos - July 2005 Opinion submitted in Sept 2005 by : Dave and Lynn - (54, 53) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: We stayed at Damia's at the beginning of July and had a great holiday. The weather was superb. No complaints with the apartments at all, they were very clean and modern. The pool area was lovely, and there was no hassle for sunbeds. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The owner, Damia, will go out of her way to assist you in any way she can. Sidari consits of two main areas, the main town of Sidari and the Canal D'Amour area. The main Sidari area we found to be a bit busy for us, but if you turn left out of the apartments and then first right, a twenty minute walk will take you into the Canal D'Amour area, with a good selection of restaurants and bars which were more suitable to us, being that little bit older, but still young at heart!! Try Nicolas's restaurant and Damia's Yard both very good. We did not find Cosmos that good, the transfer times can be anything up to two and a half hours for a fortyfive minute journey. We were lucky enough to have a taxi on our transfer over to Damia's, and when the rep told us we were being picked up at 7.50 am for a 1.20 pm flight home, we decided to spend 40 euros for a private taxi - money well spent!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Cosmos Discounts) Cosmos - June / July 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Dave, Lyn, Samantha, & Nathan Copp (46,46,11,&10) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Just back from our second stay at this fantastic complex. The staff Paula, Nicos (restaraunt/pool) Claudio (bar) and the staff behind the scenes are what make Damia's hotel what it is FANTASTIC.Damia and her family (husband Spiros, mum dad and her 4 boys)really do go out of there way to make sure everything is right. This is a small 31 apartment complex with large pool set just outside Sidari in a rural location. Family run, for families allthough all are welcome, just remember that children are about. This year Damia has employed her own entertainer, not continuos but spread out over the day and into the evening, it is low keyed and not in your face fantastic to give us parents a little bit of breathing space. The local supermarket is only a few hundred metres away the owner is suspicious of everyone that enters and you are constantly followed, prices are not too bad and in the heat you don't want to carry the water and supplies too far. Damia at the hotel can and does arrange if you so like, car hire, money exchange and the purchase of duty free allowance. Out and about if you want to go on tours book them in the town, far more cost effective than booking at the welcome meeting, most are still picked up just down the road outside the supermarket. if you hire a car beware the local he knows the road and the potholes, beware meeting the local bus or coach it can be a hair raising experience. A drive to the top of Mt Pantokrator is a must well worth the drive up to see the spectacular views over Corfu. The food at the hotel is of a good standard (but not as good as 2004). A visit to Damia's Husbands restaraunt Damia's Yard in canal Da Moor is well worth it, huge portions, very well priced, allthough the childrens menu for the non adventurous is limited. Churhills also in Canal Da Moor is quite often packed, offering huge portions of food as only a brit could do abroad, highly recommended. Getting about in Sidari is easy either on foot reasonablly flat or by local taxi cost around 5 euro (well worth it in the heat) If you decide to go here remember it is FAMILY run you are treated more as a guest and member of the family, rather than a room number. And a holiday is what you make of it that makes it special to you. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Cosmos Discounts) Cosmos, June 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Anne and John Williams, 61, 57 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: We have just returned from what we consider to be the best holiday we have ever had, and believe me, we've had many (just note our ages!!). I am going to get my moans out of the way before I begin the positives, so either bear with me or scroll down a little! Our major disappointment was our tour operator, Cosmos. We booked the actual holiday through Sky Travel, which we have no complaints about. To it's only credit, (as far as we are concerned)Cosmos did make enquiries about the suitability of Damia's for us, but only after I had spent over an hour filling in forms relating to my disability (I am a wheelchair user)and we had paid for the holiday in full! However, we were told that although Cosmos would ask for a ground floor room they could not guarantee this and the first floor was up a flight of approximately 12 steps. With no lift, I fail to see that we could have coped with anything other than the ground floor, which I am relieved to report, we got. I only learnt at the end of the holiday that Cosmos allocates apartments, and not Damia! Apart from this, we had many complaints about the lack of information from reps, the total absence of a rep, and the attitude of some reps. I could write pages, but I won't bore you or remind myself how bad they are! It is a sad fact that if we want to return to Damia's, which we do most definitely, we would have to think long and hard about having to use Cosmos again, as a contract exists, with no alternative agent. Right....all that said, here I go with the positives! Having used this site to research actual opinions for several years, I was delighted to read all the good things people had written about Damias. Upon arrival, we were not disappointed. The Hotel looked every bit as good as people had described, and we were warmly welcomed by several members of staff in the reception area. I was amazed that neither Sky nor Cosmos told us that the hotel was totally wheelchair friendly throughout. Damia and her architect have clearly put a lot of thought into this, and I have to say, it's one of the few places in Corfu that have made a real effort in this respect. (no apologies for constantly mentioning the wheelchair, but there are lots of us around, who need to know these things). If I have to make one criticism at all (and it isn't an insurmountable problem) there could possibly be some grab rails in the apartment bathrooms, in the shower and by the toilet, which would be a bonus. With regard to the actual setting of the hotel, it is ideal. It's peaceful and relaxing, and for us, exactly what we look for. The pool area is excellent for young and older people. It never seemed to be crowded or congested, but that's probably because there are only 31 apartments, ideal for those of us who do prefer the calmer, quieter days. The apartments themselves are spacious, well equipped, spotlessly clean (as is the whole hotel) and towels and sheets changed regularly. The terraces and balconies all have plastic tables and chairs and a small washing line, and all self contained. The grounds are kept beautifully, with trees and lovely flowers encompassing the complex. There is a small play area for children which is well kept too. The restaurant is lovely. We ate there a lot during our 2 week stay, and everything we had was very good. We ate mostly Greek dishes (otherwise what's the point of being in Greece?), all of which we relished. The food is well cooked, full of natural flavours, and above all, served up well, by the most friendly waiting staff, Paula and Nicos. (they also dance well too on the Greek nights......and whenever they hear the rhythmic tones of Greek music, which was not often enough for our liking, but certainly not in short supply). We had read about last year's barman Yannis, and found he was no longer at the hotel, but has been replaced by Claudio. OK, maybe Claudio isn't as outgoing as Yannis sounded, but a nicer man you couldn't wish to meet. John certainly got on really well with him, and had quite a few chats about different things. We couldn't find anything bad to say about any of the staff or Damia's family. We heard that a couple of people had said they found people stand-offish, but I maintain that you get out of any situation what you put into it. I have travelled to many countries in my life, and I have to say, hand on heart, I have never met such warm and friendly people as the Corfiots. Wherever we went, there were warm smiles and friendly greetings, but of course, we offered the same, so it works both ways. I would definitely recommend Damia's to anyone, although the location and peaceful days might not be to everyone's taste, but there is the noisier aspect of Sidari (what we refer to as "little Blackpool") for those who prefer that. Having said that the evenings at the hotel can get quite lively and the Greek nights are not to be missed. We had such great fun, watching the professional dancers and then everyone joining in. The food was in ample supply too, all around, great value for money. We found a lovely little spot on the beach in Poulades, which is still in Sidari, but the canal damour area. It's situated in front of Maria's who also do great food, and the waiters are really friendly. I became addicted to the Greek yoghurt with honey!!! As for the canal, I know some people complain about the smell, but for goodness sakes, it's a canal! And yes, some days the smell was slightly more than others, but honestly, it doesn't smell any worse that our canals do! The smell is restricted to the canal and its immediate area and does not waft like some smells we used to encounter in Majorca! It does, however, attract Mr. Mosquito in the evenings. The biggest tips I got from this site were 1) ensure you take (and use) sufficient mosquito repellent (although its readily available in all the super markets)- but dont spray it in your apartments because it makes the tiles dangerously slippery - I found the jungle strength lotion the better option, and its also suitable for children over 6 months old 2) a MUST is a mosquito plug-in and if you like sitting on your balcony or terrace use some citrus candles, mosquitos hate them 3) take some bio-degradable nappy bags for the toilet paper. It cuts down on the smell in the bathroom and keeps everything cleaner 4) Use high factor sunscreen all the time - the sun is very strong and the amount of people we saw suffering from unecessary sunburn was incredible 5) Buy local tours and trips, they are every bit as good and much cheaper than your tour operators We learnt from our mistakes here as we were opting for local tours but our so called Rep advised us against them as it meant having to walk into Sidari to be picked up and back after drop off. We later learnt that pick-up and drop-off points were only a matter of yards from the hotel!!!! Still, we did go on the shopping trip to Corfu town, having been advised by the rep that we would manage OK with my wheelchair. A rep accompanied us on the coach, and, as lovely a person as she was, she didn't have a clue about the history of the island, the culture, her way around or anything really. We were dropped off at the harbour and she pointed people in the direction of the old or new parts of the town. John desperately wanted to see the only English cricket ground in Greece (don't even ask me why?) so the rep said she was going that way and would take us there. We had to go up a very steep, narrow two-way street with little or no pavements, with car parking on both sides, trying to manoevre the chair through busy traffic. But we survived!! The rep, after about half a mile said she was shooting off to the shops and told us to carry on up the hill and we would eventually see the cricket pitch. It was really hot and poor John was soaked through with sweat before we realised that we couldn't find the darned pitch despite the maps we had. We finally asked a lovely elderly Greek man and he pointed us back down the hill to it! We had gone almost a mile past it! Well, after John's glee and my lopsided, grinning and bearing it look, we decided to go for a meal. We found a lovely place behind the Liston area, outside (yes, to those who think restaurants can only be interior establishments) and thoroughly enjoyed yet another delicious Greek meal. We then tried to look around the old town area but just couldn't manage the cobbled streets and steps everywhere, which is a shame because the buildings and atmosphere there are fantastic. We finally settled at the edge of the Liston area for the most exotic iced mocha coffee (very expensive, but then it WAS Corfu town, and I must say, worth every euro)and watched the early evening throng of people descend into the town. We felt that the four hour trip was enough, the full day would have been too much - for us anyway. I'm not sorry we went, just a bit niggled by the misinformation given by the reps. At least we got to see something different, and certainly interesting. If I was able bodied I would have loved to have gone inside some of the beautiful churches, but hey! can't do everything! We also did the day trip to Parga and Paxos. The Cosmos rep had told us that both places were flat and the boat trip would take about an hour, we could have lunch in Paxos and an afternoon drink in Parga and be back about 5 having been picked up just before 8am. As it transpired, and *yawn..yet again a load of misinformation from the rep.... We WERE picked up just after 8am and then had to go and pick people up around Sidari and then the hour to get to Corfu town where the boat would take us on our way. After 2.5 hours we finally reached Parga. The boat trip itself was certainly relaxing as the water was so calm. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get upstairs but was able to sit and glance out of the large windows (glassless). John tried to get up top to video but it was so packed he gave up. He also said the heat was almost too much, so was glad of a bit of shade! Parga was absolutely lovely. Yes! it was flat around the harbour area but behind that the buildings all perch on the cliff side!! We spent the first hour there having a leisurely lunch (gob-smackingly lovely) and people watching then we ventured into the small side streets with its little bazaars and traditional Greek shops (amongst the usual tat souvenire shops). The smell of freshly baked breads and charcoal meats was mouth watering and we found a really tiny shop that makes pure olive oil soaps and body oils where we spent far too much money! Then we set sail for Paxos (for those of you who are bothering to read all my waffle, the trip was the reverse to the order the rep had given us)which was another 30 minute boat ride. Entering Paxos harbour, which is said to be traditionally Greek with very little commercialism and is renowned for its silver-green colour from all the olive trees, the woman giving the commentary on speakers on the boat which no one could really hear or understand, told people to go somewhere on the boat to buy tickets for the bus trips to the olive groves. We were categorically told they would not take us or the wheelchair as it would not be suitable. We then had 2 hours to please ourselves! It was a 20 minute walk to the little village, it was the hottest time of day, and there was no shade at that time either. We were, admittedly quite tired - and almost asleep due to the relaxed boat ride - so we literally went to seek shade under an umbrella at a taverna where I indulged in yet another yoghurt with honey and John had a peach melba ice cream topped with FRESH peaches! Of course, do your maths, and you will know that if we didn't leave Paxos until 5pm there was no way we were going to be back at Damia's at that time! It took just over 2.5 hours to get back to Corfu then there was the usual sorting out of who goes on which coach, so it was gone 10pm by the time we got back. I would say, for those who have the stamina and are able-bodied the trip is well worth it. Bear in mind though, you only have 2 hours at each destination, so it is mainly a sort of sea cruise type day. Again, I don't regret doing it, hindsight is wonderful, as you erase the tiredness and annoyance at misinformation, and just remember the great bits of seeing somewhere and doing something different. As for eating places, I think it's tough to really recommend too many places as our tastes are all different, and it all depends if you want to go really traditional or if you simply like to continue your British diet. Loads and loads of people recommend the Three Little Pigs, so we went there, once. I ordered the moussaka, and it was very good. So were the chips and the side salad and the fresh corn on the cob, however, I didn't ask for, nor did I want or like the pile of rice covered in a tomato sauce stuff, nor the pile of pale over boiled peas and carrots nor the huge half boiled but stone cold potato. We did go to Damia's Yard, Spiros' restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed Zorbas traditional Greek meal for two. Wow! for 20 euro's there is enough food to feed 6 people. We tried everything, but got beaten by the sheer volume of portions. We hate waste and we hoped Spiros wasn't offended that we couldnt eat it all, because it was delicious. THEN, the waiter brought us out a huge plate of water melon "on the house". I tell you, these people will bend over backwards to please their guests. We also went to Sunset Beach with some lovely people we palled up with (and with whom we will see now we are back home because they dont live so far from us) and again had a superb meal. They had just had some fresh sea bream brought in and I opted for that. Others went for the swordfish, chicken and sofrito dishes. All cooked to perfection, and yes, slightly more expensive than Sidari town, but only marginally, and we felt it was worth the extra few euro's to experience seeing the beuatiful sun set. The panoramic views from there are something NOT to be missed (if you like that sort of thing, and we do!) Our friends also recommended to us a place called The Orchard. We took a leaisurely walk there one lunchtime and enjoyed the food so all of us went there for our last night. No complaints whatsoever. As I have said, I think it's all a matter of taste, and in my own humble opinion, those who don't even bother to try the local food really don't know what they are missing. I liked it better than the Spanish food we love so much when in Majorca, and that really is saying something! All in all, a terrific holiday (apart from the tour company and its reps, and a few rather large creepy crawlies who obviously thrive on the sunshine too!) that we would recommend highly to anyone. Thanks Damia, for your warmth, your brilliant hotel, your friendliness, and your lovely husband and adorable sons (big kisses for the twins, and hugs for George and Dimitri). Thanks also to Paula and Nicos who we totally adore and to Claudio, as I said before, a really lovely man. I also want to thank Stan and Myra for helping to make this the great holiday it was, and one we will never forget. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Cosmos Discounts) Cosmos - June 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : david and jem - newmarket - 20 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: have just arrived back in the uk from damias hotel and i really really was upset to be leaving. i had the best two weeks of my life at this hotel. the hotel is the cleanest i have had the pleasure of staying in throughout europe and is set in a lovely location just outside of sidari. the owner damia is the most amazing hostess, her husband spoiros (the dancing chef) is an amazing chef/entertainer his restuarant damias yard must be visited along the canal.the waiters/bar staff claudeo, nicos and the lovely paula are all so freindly and i am pleased to have met them all.jo the entertainer is fantastic abd makes this a great holiday for anybody travelling with children with activities for young and old.i hope anybody looking to stay in sidari seriously considers staying at damias, you wont be dissapointed. in my two weeks i was treated like family by all the staff and left with many new friends i couldn't have asked for a better holiday. i really hopew to visit again in the near future. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Cosmos Discounts) Cosmos - June 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Sandra and Paul - 30, 32 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Well, the first and main thing to say is if your considering staying at Damias then go and get it booked. We went there for one week and had a brilliant time. Everyone there goes out of their way to make you feel welcome especially Jo who is in charge of the entertainment. She works incredibly hard and looks like she really enjoys herself. Whilst we were there it was my birthday and I booked a table at Damias Yard (Damia's Husband's restaurant) - Damia found out that it was my birthday and made sure that there was a birthday cake and drinks for us after our meal! This really made my birthday special. Damias Apartments are very clean and well equipped. The pool area is gorgeous. The food in the restaurant is really good - as good as the restaurants we went to so you don't even need to go out if you don't want to! When we pulled up on the coach we were made up because it was definitely the best place to stay. The pool area is around the back of the apartments, at all of the other places we dropped off at the pool was right at the front and so there was no privacy but this was not the case at Damias. I could go on and on with plus points for Damias but I definitely recommend you try it for yourself - you won't be disappointed. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Cosmos Discounts) Cosmos -October 2004 Opinion submitted in Jan 2005 by : Val,Gary and Siobhan Traynor (43,38,12) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Glad to have had the privilage of staying at these appartments. They were very well presented and had all the necessary facilities to help make our holiday home from home.Damia and her family made us feel more than welcome and we are sure to return in the very near future.Damia's staff especially Yannis the barman were very very friendly and very helpful. The pool was excellent and the outlook from the rooms was the pool view.Although the appartments were about 10 mins from the centre the walk was enjoyable as it showed how the locals live.Eating out was reasonable with great variety but Damia serves excellent food as does her husbands reastaurant Damias Yard.If you are reading this Damia see ya soon xxxxx We highly recommend Damias ApartHotel Sadari. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: Cosmo's October 2004 Opinion submitted in Nov 2004 by : veronica traynor - dundee ( 43, 43, 38, 38 ,14, 14, 12 ) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: I cant recommend highly enough the wonderfull hotel we stayed in. Damia , her family and staff go out of there way to make your stay everything you could hope for and more. Damia really does add the personal touch. Based just a 10 minute walk from the main centre, but only a few minutes walk from the nearest supermarket, Didnt get to sample the high season entertainment, was seen the pics and by all accounts the a lot of fun was had, did get to sample the food though and this was excellent and very reasonably priced, Plan to back again,, soon i hope,, and maybe get to sample so of the fun that was had by theguests earlier in the season. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Cosmos Discounts) Cosmos - September 2004 Opinion submitted in Oct 2004 by : Vicki Gumbley - Evesham (32,31,18months) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: When the coach dropped us off at Damia's Aparthotel we couldn't believe our luck. The apartments are immaculate, roomy, tastefully decorated and equipped with everything you could want. The hotel has a plush reception area with large TV screen, bar and restaurant and the staff are wonderful. Damia herself is a lovely person, warm, generous and will do anything to help at the drop of a hat. It sounds clichéd but she really does make you feel like part of the family! Unlike most of the hotels and apartments in Sidari the oasis-style pool - which is huge and also includes a separate baby pool with a slide - is behind the main reception area so you are not overlooked from the road. All the apartments have a great view of woodland and face the pool. Here you are away from the hustle and bustle of the centre and can really relax. This was our first holiday away with our 18-month-old daughter and Damia's was perfect. We hired a cot and buggy and there was plenty of entertainment on during the day and evening geared towards youngsters. And there are swings and inflatables around the pool and also a playground for tots. You can hire bikes, cars and order taxis through Damia and there are supermarkets nearby - be warned though as the nearest one (if you turn right out of Damia's it's on the right) is pricey and the owner rude. Instead turn left out of the hotel and take the first right - it's further away but worth the walk. If you keep walking along this road (which is a much nicer way to walk into Sidari centre) you'll pass the better restaurants, the best of which is Damia's Yard. The food is excellent, reasonably priced, varied and the staff very friendly - it's no wonder people queue up for a table! (book a table with Damia before you go) We tried a few places before we ate here but this was by far the best so nowhere else got a look in after our first meal there. This was something that had encouraged us to choose Damia's Hotel when making our booking. We had a HUGE surprise when we stayed there! Although the facilities were excellent with a gorgeous pool, good-sized regularly cleaned rooms and a nice bar, myself and my boyfriend were utterly stunned and embarrassed at the manner in which we were treated. We were publicly humiliated in front of the other guests. Because of this I would certainly not recommend it to anyone in order for them to avoid the upset and embarrassment we suffered. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: Archer's - August 2004 Opinion submitted in Aug 2004 by : Debbie, Nick,Gemma,Jonathan (38,45,12,9.) Consisting of 7 studio, 15 1 bed & 9 2 bed apt's.Food at the complex was of a very high standard, and was no more expensive than other restraunts.(fast food places aside)You have got to try the greek garlic bread here never tasted anything like it before had it most nights we ate here.We felt as though we were treated more as part of the family than as a room No: or just another Guest. How many owners wait up to make sure the tourist's are back from a day trip in a hire car that they have arranged for them, at no extra cost than walking in off the street and getting it yourself. The complex is a 25 minute stroll from Sidari town centre, or a 5e taxi fare, again the owner Damia will organise this for you. In fact it seems a taxi anywhere in Sidari is 5e. The local supermarket compares in price with most other supermarkets in the area but be prepared to be watched and followed all round the store, it has a very good selection of suncreams and over the counter medicines. A must for the area is several types of mosquito spray's, plug-in's, and candles, they seem to thrive on the weekly new influx of guest's. The Apt's are NOT as described in the Cosmos brochure but hey it's only for a short while, may be by the 2006 brochure they will get it correct. Please bear in mind that this is a brand new for 2004 complex and therefore it has not yet seen a full season perhaps as the season unfold's thing might change as at the moment the owner is trying her best to please everyone all of the time, I do hope not as this could spoil other peoples holiday. The staff are fantastic meet up with Yanni the barman and try one of his cocktail's or one of the (just try one of theese shots) various mini trial shots, sometimes on fire through a straw. Out and about the beaches were not that great especially near the Canal d'Amour (canal of love) I think not, unless you have left your sense of smell at home. Winston Churchill's in the Canal d'Amour is a must for great value and loaded plate of FOOD fish and chip's abroad as only a Brit could cook well worth the taxi ride or walk. Aqualand water park in the centre of Corfu has some great rides, but beware the childrens area, loose plastic cost us the day and an extra 20e in medical costs and my daughter an extremely painfull heel and leg, if going it is worth going by a local (not tour operator) coach. In fact tours are far cheaper from operators in the town. If hiring a car be prepared for the narrow main (A) roads and hair pin bends, when off the main road beware the local he is going 5 times faster than you and knows all the pot holes. meeting something bigger than you on a bend or narrow strech can be quite hairraising. The whole area seems to be aimed at the UK visitor and we only learnt two words of greek. But this is only our opinion, and what you want or need from a holiday is down to you and you alone. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damia's ApartHotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Cosmos Discounts) Cosmos June 2004 Opinion submitted in July 2004 by : Ian Tomlinson (46,38;3) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Just returned from a great holiday in Sidari. The resort is a little bit lively than the last time we were there eight years ago, there realy is lots going on. We found the brochure to be Very misleading, it states that it is set amoungst fields, is 100m from the main road, half an hour walk from the town, and that you may need a torch for late night returns!!!! This is very untrue .... it's about 40m from the main road (which means it's nice and peaceful and not overlooked) there is a restaurant about 1 minute walk and a reasonably priced supermarket about a 4 minute walk away, the main strip of Sidari is a leisurely 15 minute walk away, and taxi costs about 5 euros if you're feeling lazy! Harry owns the apartments are is very helpful and makes you feel very welcome, (he works his socks off) he lent us his iron cos we forgot ours!! (And looked after our luggage when we were going home - staying until 2 in the morning when we were getting picked up for the airport). The apartments were spotlessly clean (thanks to Harry's mum) and are spacious, with a small equipped kitchen, we managed to make chicken tonight for our lunch and bacon sandwiches for breakfast!! Bathroom is basic, but always had hot water in shower and was cleaned most days. Had a safe and air con for a small fee. Lovely pool, big enough for amount of guests (only about 20-30 rooms). Sidari resort is good for families and also for young lively couples, and there were a few groups of singles, there's a massive strip of restaurants about 20 minute walk from one end to the other, in the middle there's about 10-15 lively loud bars which are open until about 2 i think, and a few clubs that are open till six! Drinks are not too expensive, three euros for a vodka redbull in the Falcon, most places are around that price 3-4 euros for cocktails. I can recommend Ceasers and Faro clubs, and bars, Shakers and The Falcon were my favourites!! I would def go back .... Thank you Harry for a lovely holiday, met some really nice people aswell, three lots of couples at our hotel were returning back to Dimitra for the second time!! The owners of the Dimitris apartments, Rula and Spiro are very friendly and helpful at all times. Their son Dimitry is also a pleasure. He too is helpful. The food that Rula cooks is lovely (coming from me who is very fussy). The pool is cleaned everyday. The apartments inside are spotless. Kitchen and bathroom area a little small but I am being very picky. The apartment is about 20-25 minutes walk from Sidari night life. The centre is full of bars and a few night clubs (open till 6am) The good thing about the apartment is that if you want a quietish night you can just stay around the bar, which is open until the last man/woman standing. Whereas, if you want a mad night you can go into the centre. If you cannot be bothered walking to the centre it only costs 5 euro in a taxi which Rula will phone. Sidari centre is full of lovely tavernas: Venetzia - if you like italian, the Kohenoor (owned by spiro) - Indian, Olympia - if you feel like some local greek food. There are lots to choose from and they are quite cheap too. I would definately go back again....!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dinos Apartments - Sidari Operator and Date: Manos - August 2007 Opinion submitted in August 2007 by : Laura & Stuart (18,21) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Just returned from the Dinos Apartments and they were fab (defiantly under-rated as a 3*)! They have recently been refurbished and are modern and very spacious with everything you need, including a microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster and hairdryer. You get a safe in the room but air-con is an extra, so we just hired a fan for ?10 from down the road. It is only a small complex and is raised from the road, making it feel very private. The location is perfect, very close to the beech and resort centre. The resort has something for everyone and to eat out is amazingly cheep. There are also lots of water sports available in Sidari, including water-skiing, paragliding, scuba diving as well as pedalos and canoes. We went on 2 boat trips, an evening cruise to Corfu Town (?16 each) - which is a must see for fantastic views and bargain shopping. We also went on a BBQ glass bottom boat trip to paradise beech (?20 each inc BBQ + free flowing beer, wine, water and juice), very nice but there is a lot of stones so I recommend getting some good beech shoes. We got these through a travel agency on the main street (there are lots) and I recommend this rather than booking them through the rep. Also the rep tries to sell you a phone card for ?10, telling you it is cheaper than anywhere else on the island (we fell for it), but then later got told you can buy the same one from the shop down the road for ?5. But overall I would recommend these apartments to anyone, we had an amazing holiday and didn't want to come home! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dinos Apartments - Sidari Operator and Date: (Manos Direct) Manos - May 2007 Opinion submitted in May 2007 by : Vicki & Ian - Wolverhampton Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: We have just returned from the Dinos Apartments in Sidari, and this holiday has been the best by far. There's a very pleasant pool area with beds,it's close to the main road but you don't really notice the traffic after a day or two.Excellent pizza place next to Dinos with 10% discount, home made with irregular shaped pizzas with great fillings. Sidari itself has a lovely beach and coastline but overall I thought it was a bit lowkey and tacky. The 2 big downers on the holiday were the moozzies from which there was no escape by night and the chaos at the airport which is just too small for the sheer volume of holiday traffic. Opposite the apartments is a very noisy pub and to get any sleep you have to close the shutters and windows and even then it is still noisy. We could never sit on our balcony as the noise of the pub and traffic was too distracting. There are sun loungers by the pool but no umbrellas and the pool is in the shade from about 4.30 onwards. There is a very steep flight of steps up to the apartments and then depending on the location of the apartment another two flights of steps and there is no-one to help carry up the luggage. Resort is very noisy and quite dangerous for young children as there are no pavements and traffic is very busy. All the bars have constant football matches on the T.V.'s and blare out really noisy music. Everything you need for a self catering holiday. The Canal D'Amour area good place to see, spent most our days there, but its about half hour walk but well worth it. Plenty of choice for food, would recomend Romano;s, its hidden away 1 min off the main strip, its traditional and small, typically Greek. Hector and George really friendly and make you feel welcome in their apartments, if you have late checkout you can keep room on if possible, depends on arrivals that day, but they have shower room to use. Two supermarkets at the end of the road with plenty of choice. Only negative is you onle get one roll of toilet paper, when its gone its gone, you can ask for more and you will get it off george but not off the maid, so take some or you will have to buy it, we did hear a bit of noise as its next to road but just keep your shutters closed and it blocks it out a bit. The apartments are away from the centre and accessed by a country road. The location is fine as long as you can put up with the cockerels, donkeys, goats and dogs that make a noise from early hours of the morning. When we first arrived we had to clean the apartments ourselves and dispose of the leftover dirty underwear of the previous occupants. The owners are your best friends as long as you are spending loads of money in their complex. The food is poor and served in tiny portions (ideal if you are on a diet). These apartments do not provide any facilities for showering and changing for people vacating their rooms at 12 noon and not flying until 2 in the morning, unless you pay 30 euros for the use of a shower. Entertainment provided at Ektors is very poor, but if you want entertainment at Ektors, get up at 4 in the morning when you have been woken by the cockerels, etc and watch the rats scurrying around the pool bar/kitchen area. Sidari itself is worth visiting with plenty of good pubs and restaurants and yes there are still friendly, welcoming greeks. We would return to Sidari again anytime as we have done in the past but never to Ektor Apartments. There are much better located, managed and clean apartments in the resort. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ektors Apartments - Sidari Operator and Date: (Sunset Discounts) Sunset - 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Elaine & Nick - Newcastle upon Tyne Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: When we arrived we were very impressed with the accommodation, we were apartment no. 16. The apartment was clean, big in comparison to other greek accommodation we have stayed in and everything you needed e.g. oven, fridge, cutlery, plates etc, toaster, 2 clean beds, plenty of storage and a clean bathroom. We also had 2 balconies. The only thing that is not stocked up and that is toilet roll - buy or bring plenty of that and there is no air conditioning and they do not supply fans either - you can rent along the road. The owners Hector and his son George are both friendly as are the staff that work for them. The food in the bar we found to be really nice and decent portions, the pool was clean and plenty of beds around the pool. The only problems we had were the family from hell next door who let their children play around our apartment early morning and let one of their children scrape the stool along the floor as though it was a baby walker which infuriated us as we were trying to sleep! Also as one lady has mentioned you have the cockrel and dogs barking in the morning and if you do not go home late i.e. early hours the noise from neighbouring bars/restaurants are loud! Sidari itself is lovely, the Ektor Apartments are at the beginning of Sidari and is about a 5 mins walk into the centre itself, which we were pleased about. The bars, restaurants, shops were all lovely and the food and drink was ample and we didnt have one bad meal or takeaway anywhere. Entertainment good in the bars except the only thing we would comment is that they charge what they like as far as drinks are concerned. You order 2 drinks and its 7 euros, the next time it may be 8 euros or 6 euros, just depends! The beach is a good 10/15 minute walk along the main street of Sidari, so we only did this the once and stayed by the pool. Overall I would go back to the Ektor Apartments for a week's break and would recommend for couples or young families but there is nothing for teenagers. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ektors Apartments - Sidari Operator and Date: (Thomas Cook Direct) Thomas Cook july 2004 Opinion submitted in Aug 2004 by : Ann Marie Rogers 38 Mark 44 , 3 kids13, 8,7 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Before I went to Corfu Sidari I found there were only a few things I wanted to know: 1. Apartments-Were they clean? How close to centre( we were there with 3 kids) did not want to walk far. I can assure anyone with kids that the Ektors apartments were friendly, clean and just a great place to be.Plenty of good food served throughout the day and quite reasonable. The apartment complex were run by a family. The apartments cleaned every mon,wed and fri.The apartments were the perfect location as you were close enough for a pleasant walk at night and just far enough away to miss out on the noise coming from the pubs and clubs that could keep your kids awake at night. 2. What was the food like? We found that most restaurants catered for all tastes. There were plenty of pasta dishes, pizza and baked potatoes if you kids were not too adventurous in the food department. However, there were also plenty of local delicacies available to sample and I can tell you it was wonderful. The beef stifado was just great. Some good resturants to try are: Venenzia-pizza and pasta 10 out of 10 for portions and service: Bavias-Greek Taverna seemed to be always quiet(don't let that put you off) and did not try this one til late on in the holiday but it was really worth it, again 10 out of 10 for portions and serice. The salt and Pepper was wonderful for a full breakfast and very reasonable. The Olympic was a wonderful restaurant with a difference. Your portions and service were again great and the dancing that was put on whilst you ate was just fascinating.Traditional Greek dancing plus fire dancing it was a great night out. 3. Beach The beach was clean and depending on where you were could be quite windy. Certain parts of the beach were quite stoney and was a bit off putting for the kids. However it did not stop them enjoying everyminute of being at the beach. 4. Excursions Booked a wonderful excurions to Aqualand with Value plus(situated in the main street of Sidari). This was one of the highlights of the holiday. The kids loved every minute, great value even if you were not a good swimmer. Booked a cruise - again with value plus. We opted for the East coast cruise and what a day it was!! There were about 4 stops for swimming and 1 of these was for diving for champagne just wonderful. The captain of the Cosmic cruises was great and made sure that the kids all had life jackets on for going into the water. He also made a lovely punch for the adults and gave all the children juice. There was a stop for about 1 hour and 15 mins for lunch it was really wonderful and again you could go swimming( just watch out the sand was unbearably hot). 5. Car hire Hired a car again from value plus as this was one of the few places prepared to do a really good discount because we were booking other things as well. 3 day car hire totally worth it. Got to see quiet a bit of the island and could stop when we wanted (for photos or juice or toilet).I would suggest that if you do hire a car it is not like driving here in britain. You very rarely get out of third gear what with the hills and bends. But very enjoyable. The studio we had was nicely furnished, clean and well maintained. The pool is brilliant and the Texas Bar is really nice (great bar staff) where they serve very good food. Don't miss the Greek night - its worth 15E for the food and Greek dancing. They also put on quiz and karaoke nights too plus films. Bit of a walk to the beach which when you get there is rather disappointing, the better beach being at the Canal D'Armour end though it did smell a bit of sewage up there. Watch out on the roads - no footpaths some of the time. Oassis and Venezia Pizzeria are good places to eat. Loads of tavernas and shops in Sidari - some better quality than others. The walk into Sidari takes about 25 minutes but be warned, there are virtually no footpaths and they drive like mad men so. If you get the chance you must see Stevie Spit at the Red lion, very funny ( very blue )and Darren May, a brilliant guitarist/vocalist, both on most nights, foods pretty good here too if you want traditional english fare.Theres also a hynotist appearing at Boleros each Sunday night, and this is definately worth watching. Other places to eat are the italian down on the left from eleni( great food and good prices) and the Oasis, traditional greek at really good prices. Do not book anything with the Thompson Rep, go into Sidari where you'll find 2 or 3 places offering the same deals but much cheaper. Example Thompsons wanted 37 e to take you to the water park but we got it for 19 e,( this is a must by the way ) we also went on a traditional festival for 4e each, middle of a field with hundreds of lambs being spit roasted, cold beer, market stalls, well worth a visit ! Also worth trying is the yellow boat company on Sidari beach, we hired their best boat for 120e for 8 hours and it was great fun, and dead easy to drive. Hire a push bike ( 4/5e a day ) and go to sunset beach, 30 minute ride and it's all flat, spectacular views and great beach. The local buses are pretty good as well, we went to Rhoda, 1 1/2e ( much nicer than Sidari ) and Kassiopi, 2 1/2e. Overall we had a great time but I would not go back to Sidari, a bit too touristy for me. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eleni Apartments - Sidari Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

We stayed in those which face the pool and they were spacious and clean. However the ones behind these looked small so check with your tour operator first! Large clean pool, recent DVD most nights, reasonably priced bar meals. Barman (son in law of owners) bit of a sour-puss (we complained of noisy pipes which he didn't believe until the owner heard them. He was great and really helpful). It's a good 15 to 20 minute walk to the centre of Sidari passing good restaurants (except the one with ducks) offering value for money. Try the Oasis and the local food. Sidari centre is quite tacky with lots of very loud bars with people constantly hassling you to come in. We visited the beach once (its ok) but preferred to travel. If you hire a car then do go to Arrilas - easily the best beach in Corfu. We went on one Thomson Holidays

Only complaint about the room was that the bathroom was very small and smelt very bad, and we had to go out an buy bleach and air freshner for it. Also take your own toilet roll, it's very rare you get a new one. The pool area was very clean and the owners were very friendly, Texas bar served great food and it was great value for money. It is a bit of a walk into Sidari town but there are plenty of bars and places to eat in on the way. Try Athenian which is a great little Greek restaurant and serves the nicest food at really good prices, Please steer clear of Al Forno's (It's the one with the ducks and totoises outside), The food was awful!!! The Beach wasn't the best it was full of cigarette ends and it was awful!!! Would definately go back to stay at Eleni Apartments, but the bathroom would have to be sorted, also if you do go take plenty of mosquito protection because they eat you alive!!!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eleni Apartments - Sidari Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
