Sidari Hotels and Apartments A - C Afroditi ( Aphroditi ) Hotel - Sidari Operator and Date: Sky - May 2006 Opinion submitted in June 2006 by : Tracey 41, Stefan 35, Joe 9 - Kent Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: We moved to the Aphrodite Hotel after our appalling stay at the Venus (see review for that under V). This hotel was beautiful and peaceful and lovely and clean. It was bed and breakfast, breakfast was toast and jam, tea and juice but for euro 2.50 you could upgrade to a full english which was superb. The staff, Erica, Holly, Yianni and George were wonderful and really made you feel at home. We enjoyed our stay here and nothing was too much trouble. Room overlooked the pool and beach and was of a high standard with TV and air conditioning. This hotel saved our holiday as if we'd had to remain in the Venus studios, it would have ruined our holiday. I would recommend the Aphrodite and if you get to Sidari and hate your accomodation go and see Erica on reception. I cannot fault the quality of this hotel, its right on the beach and in the centre of Sidari. Sidari itself is ok bit busy for our tastes full of english pubs and the like but there are some nice restaurants. Pizza Romano behind the church square and 3 little pigs, both nice places to eat. The touting for bars and restaurants is annoying and we avoided anywhere that touted. For a nice snack try a lovely Gyros in san remo (greek fast food). All in all we had a lovely holiday thanks to the Aphrodite Hotel. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Afroditi ( Aphroditi ) Studios - Sidari Operator and Date: First Choice Opinion submitted in June 2006 by : Ian & Carol White Scotland 51,48 Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: What a difference a year makes this was our 4th visit and was looking forward to the holiday. This was our fist time in the self catering studios as we normaly go to the hotel. As usual all the staff were first class but as for the appartments what a let down. A shower that was hopeless beds hard no view appart from a half built building, small room, and what a noise as we got stuck on the main drag. This resort is slowly turning into a small Kavos almost all the bars had loud blairing music and motorbikes and youngsters trying to outdo each other for noise till 4 or 5am then the delivery lorrys would start. We personaly saw 3 fights there with drunken yobs all from U.K. Dont think we will be back. I have just been e-mailed from Erica at the aphroditi hotel asking me to inform anybody that reads my last review about the hotel that my comments were not about the hotel but the studios. Sorry Erica the hotel is great but to anybody going to the studios my advice is DONT. Book with the hotel you can do it direct and its less than LAST (oops) sorry First Choice. First choice now seem to put there customers as last choice. After a few years vist to Sidari I know how long it is from the airport (1hr approx) this year 2hrs plus, e-mailed first choice as to why this was but as to date no reply and that was in June. Anyway forget first choice and book direct with the hotel we would but alas flights expensive from scottyland. My comments about the resort still stand, in the last few years it is going down hill but to the advantage of the young ?? (dodgy drinks). My last words are, Sidari hotel owners your resort is going down hill fast. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Afroditi ( Aphroditi ) Hotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - August 2005 Opinion submitted in Sept 2005 by : Leanne (23) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: The resort was fantastic although the beach desperately needed cleaning (cigarette butts and seaweed everywhere!) however the staff at the aphrodite are fantastic and really made an effort to ensure that guests had the best time possible. An excellent restaurant to try is the 'Olympic' it is just next door to the aphrodite and the food and the waiters are excellent, plus the greek dancing is something to watch whilst you eat! My only criticism is that i was in a studio and it had no balcony (although the summer 2005 brochure stated that all rooms had access to a balcony!) and my room opened up onto road, which was vv busy and noisy all night. The first choice reps were very incompetent and i had several issues with them. So much so that i will not be using first choice again. The best place to book a trip is with Vlasseros travel (over the road from the three brothers hotel) it is much cheaper than FC but the trips were excellent, especially the Corfu Town day cruise. I would definately go to Sidari again as i had an excellent holiday and i would recommend the Aphrodite but only the Hotel not the studios. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Afroditi ( Aphroditi ) Hotel and Studios - Sidari Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - May 2005 Opinion submitted in June 2005 by : Graeme, Jo and Lucy - Preston ( 33, 28, 14months ) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: just come back from 2 weeks at the Afroditi hotel, it was the best hotel i've ever been to in greece, we stayed on B+B basis the continental breakfast was good but if you wanted something different you could at a discount. we expected the room to be tiny after reading some of the reviews but it was quite big. i did have a look at the studios though and they were tiny i don't think you would even fit a suitcase on the floor! if you were in a ground floor studio you didn't have a balcony either! The hotel is in the centre of the resort so you have pubs, restaurants and shops within seconds of leaving the hotel which was great. there were some hotel rooms at the front, i don't think i'd have liked to have been in them with a baby as some of the pubs played loud music till late! The receptionist who was called Erika was billiant she was so friendly and helpful, in fact all the staff were brill. the room was cleaned to a high standard every day. stright on the beach from the pool,it has loads of seaweed on it and the hotel don't clear it up but you can go a little further down were it is raked. loads of good eating places in Sidari, we loved Faros, and Sea Breeze which were on the main strip going towards canal D'amour. cactus jacks (mexican) was brill they were the BIGGEST portions i've ever seen in my life. that was on your right just before canal D amour. loads to do in sidari, hired a car with air con for 3 days to see the island, only paid about £40 from the excursion place just across from Three brothers hotel. The hotel are going independant next year but we will def be stopping at the hotel again. P.s lots of ants around resort and loads of mozzies at nite ! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Afroditi ( Aphroditi ) Hotel and Studios - Sidari Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - 2005 Opinion submitted in Feb 2006 by : Ian & Carol White 50/40ish West Lothian Sotland Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: As with most accomodation in greece its fairly basic but always very clean. Six of us have been going for a few years now and are booked again for june again in 2006. Found this the best time to go as its not as busy but still not boring. The main thing about going at this time is the old mozzies are not as rife. The canal area is worst for mozzies. Take lots of moz spray and room tablets, you can also buy candles out of the supermarkets leave them on at night on the balcony (away from towels e.t.c) and they keep the pests away from the door. The staff are brill Erika, Yani the cleaners and cook and of course George at the pool bar (he even crys when we leave and he is a big man) and my wee mate Tassos who now along with George speaks scots ??? Ask George for anything and he will try and get it. The odd Euro (and a polite chit chat in his tip glass works wonders) a gent once you get to know him. Last time we had to buy an extra suitcase to take home presents from the staff and owners of tavernas, shops, e.t.c. 10ltrs wine, bottles of Metaxa and home maid olive oil (the real thing) and odds and ends fridge magnets, lighters t'shirts etc from others. The eating is varied but i like to eat greek food, just that i think why go to greece to eat fish and chips ?? The olympic next door is good along with a bit greek dancing. If your into piza/italian go to the one behind the church in the small square and watch your own piza being made in a clay oven and if you can finish the starter and piza i think you will need to go on a diet after.Never been in the mexican but was warned to stay away by two young english girls who worked in the Lemon bar think they adopted us as parents for the two weeks. All in all the resort and people are great as long as you dont go with a attitude problem and dont expect a five star hotel. On a end note go to the travel agent across the road on the right of the hotel almost half the price of the reps trips and no commision and better exchange rate. One down side THE AIRPORT what a nightmare to small but can put up with it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Afroditi ( Aphroditi ) Hotel and Studios - Sidari Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - 2005 Opinion submitted in Jan 2006 by : tom and carole Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: After recently recovering from a heart attack we needed to get away, so off we went to the First choice hypermarket. Ok that was our first mistake, the second was taking notice of the so called expert travel advisor, and thirdly was booking, what was described to us as, an ideal place to recouperate, quite, not much to do, in fact we could get quite bored she said. We arrived waited 30-40 mins to get on a coach, then sat there a further 40 mins while the first of the incompetant reps we met made a decition to leave, after 3 1/2 hours we arrived in a very narrow main street and were told by the rep to get off as this was our hotel, dumped our cases on the pavement and left. o.k so the receptionist Erica was lovely, frendly, helpfull, and very pretty. George who seemed to do everything was the same, only not pretty. if fact everyone in the hotel incl the biggest, and oldest security i'v ever seen. we were told, 1, private pool, no sorry public baths better describes it. 2, breakfast incl, wrong again toast, tea and a fairy cake. 3, air con, wrong again pay for it. 4, quiet, the back of the hotel is quite but the front, quieter in old trafford on sat match day. 5, a few bars and restaurants (that close/get quiet after 11 pm) do me a favour, veronicas in tenerife was quieter,it was deafening. 6,the main street is treated as a drag strip and the pavements are only wide enough for one person. we paid over £1200.00 to be put somewhere we didnt want to be, sidari is the worst place i have ever been to , the hotel should be 2miles down the beach. please avoid this place if you wish to keep your hearing and sanity. but if you go to the afriditi say hi to the great staff --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Afroditi ( Aphroditi ) Hotel and Studios - Sidari Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Ian,Libby 52 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: The Afroditi is undoubtably the number one Hotel in Sidari. From the moment we booked in till we left the Hotel staff could not have been more friendly, Erika the recepionist,Spiro the evening Barman, and of course GEORGE. Once you have eaten in the restruants on the main street why not give the Afroditi a try - you wont be disappointed. Best of the resort eating places, we found the two Chinese to be the best. If you decide to do any of the trips offered by the reps.don't book until you check the prices with the independant operators - they are half the price and offer the same destinations and air conditioned buses. The only downsides to the fortnight were the Mozzies - they were a right pain and the noise from the nightclubs - the street is not wide and the noise from the clubs on opposit sides bounce of each other. All in all we would reccomend Sidari to anyone looking for a fun filled holiday. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Afroditi ( Aphroditi ) Hotel and Studios - Sidari Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - October 2004 Opinion submitted in Nov 2004 by : Pam Buckle - Markington (61, 64) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: This was a spur of the moment holiday and it was an excellent week for us. The hotel was very clean on arrival and kept immaculate during our stay with bedding and towels changed more often than usual. The room was small but adecquat for us. The Continetal breakfast was quite good and the two times we upgraded to a full English for five euros between us was more than enough as it included the continental breakfast as well. Most afternoons we had a snack in the Bar and again they were good value. We found the staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool area was kept clean as was their strip of beach. The hotel is well situated for all amenities but we found it well worth to walk up the main, and only street, to the two large supermakets which were considerably cheaper than thos closer at hand. We had some good nights in the Red Lion and the Three Brothers and for meals would reccomend the Venezia, The Blue Sky and the Indian restaurant. The resort itself was not kept clean and looked a bit run down. The beach in parts was dirty with open sewers running on to what was supposed to be sand but looked more like grey clay. We visited Corfu Town and enjoyed it despite it being a Monday and parts were closed but it is well worth a visit. We used the many travel offices in Sidari to book rather than through the rep. as they were a lot cheaper. Although we enjoyed ourselves Sidari is not somewhere we would rush to go back to and in fact within three days of getting home we have booked for Kos after using this excellent site to help us make our decision. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Afroditi ( Aphroditi ) Hotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - July 2004 Opinion submitted in July 2004 by : Chris & Helen White - Sheffield (31,26) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Disregard anything you have read about the Afroditi pre 2004! We have just returned from the best 2 weeks there! The best greek holiday we have ever had! The rooms are small but well kept, clean & tidy and contain everything you need. All the staff are really friendly and helpful especially at the beach bar! The food in the beach bar is of a really high standard and the wine is very good(which is quite rare!). The resort of Sidari offers something for everyone with the hotel being in a brilliant central location. In other greek resorts you are pestered to come in bars/restaurants etc but in Sidari there is no pressure just a hello! The restaurants are all very good but stay away from the 3Pigs greek (the steak was like boot leather!). Venezias italian was excellent as was the indian Kohe-noor with the best staff on the island! There are 3 chinese restaurants and the best is Hong Kong Palace. Aqualand water park is a must for a day out but book it with the travel shop opposite the hotel, they were very good and cheaper than with the rep. If you fancy a good couple of hours hire a boat from the Yellow Boat Co just down the beach to the left, we found loads of empty beaches to explore. Make sure you walk to the canal d'amour the cove is lovely and great for photos. Take plenty of mozzie spray, as they are the most vicious we've seen yet! You will have a brilliant time as we have, we cant wait to go back it was the best holiday we have had! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Afroditi ( Aphroditi ) Hotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - june 2004 Opinion submitted in June 2004 by : Bob and Di - Cheshire (56,52) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: This Hotel was perfect for us.The staff were excellent, and looked after us very well. Especially George and Stassos!! at the poolr bar. which is were we had our breakfasts. Beautiful. the actual resort was like many you see on any tourist island, plenty of places to eat, we can recommend quite a few Tavernas. We spent 14 days there and didn't want to come home. we stayed in the hotel and the rooms were lovely, cleaned every day and we had a sea view, which we recommend as some of the rooms overlooked the busy road, with all the shops and eating places and clubs and pubs. We were never disturbed once. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Afroditi ( Aphroditi ) Apartments - Sidari Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - May 2004 Opinion submitted in June 2004 by : Jeff and Jen Brewer ,Newcastle (55,53) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: We have to compliment Dawson&Sanderson our travel agents who sorted some things out for us in advance , and Thomas Cook airline for all the help the cabin crew gave us (as well as the service on the plane). We were a bit dubious about the accomodation after reading some of the reviews on this site , but as the brochure states the studios have been totally refurbished and apart from the basic utensils everything was really of a good standard.Hob,microwave, fridge, electric kettle,tv, hairdryer and UPVC door and windows. The balcony is very small, but big enough to dry clothes on.There is a communal terrace for the occupants of the ground floor studios so this was the best place to eat meals as theres not really space inside. There were plenty of sunbeds etc and the beach bar does a variety of food -drinks ,as virtually every where in Greece ,are quite pricey. The beach isn't wonderful but it is a beach and the sea is very near and shallow for a looong way-ideal for plodgers and non swimmers. As others have said you can easily walk along the beach to sandy stretches and coves. There are loads of places to eat both noisy or relaxed, and all reasonable : it is quite normal to get a 3 course meal with wine and including tip for 20euros for two...a lot cheaper than the UK. The Corfiots and the Brits working over there are all friendly and help make the holiday.Jen went on one of the horseriding excursions and for days after the bloke in charge waved to her when he was picking up or dropping off in Sidari. In one of the shops we got a history of the development of Sidari and a background to the schooling of the locals from the lady who ran the shop.At the closest supermarket the owner helped us master basic Greek. The people really do like it when you try to use some of their words and phrases, after all they have to speak English for at least five months of the year. The dog problem is apparently dealt with by a cull in the winter,so don't get too attached to any of the strays you see. We can recommend the Corfu cruise,it gives you a taste of everything in one package ;coach to Kassiopi, cruise to Corfu town,Shop for 3-4 hours ,cruise back and stop for a swim at a small beach ,then coach back to Sidari, well worth it as you can tan on the boat ,which you can't do if you go all the way by bus(which takes about the same time to get there). Jen speaks very highly of the Diving Fun Club ,a couple of shops along from the studios...scuba dive with the experts, but be careful, she tried it last year in Greece and took a full course back home to qualify for this year. Also support Sidari Watersports who are on the beach by the Afrodite-I helped paint their signs and they're a good bunch of lads. Memories is a good place to eat out.Takeaway wise, gyros are definitely cheap and filling ,and pork skewers really taste better than they do over here.Theres always a good selection of up to date(pirated)movies to watch at the bars and ,yes,if you really must watch Eastenders ,drink in a Brit Bar or eat a Big Mac you can,but do you really need to go to Corfu to do it? A really good holiday from start to finish and not even the rain ,thunder or mozzies could spoil it .Definitely one we'd try again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Akti Aphrodite Hotel - Sidari Operator and Date: independant Opinion submitted in June 2007 by : Stuart & Dionne-Cheshire (44,42) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Once you have stayed at the aphrodite you will not want to stay anywhere else, this I promise. It was such a pleasure to stay at a hotel where the staff actually enjoy being of service to you nothing is too much trouble for them. The hotel is situated right on the beach and starts about 25metres from the edge of the swimming pool, most of the rooms have sea views and the cleaning service is second to none, the hygiene of the whole hotel is of the highest possible standard and the breakfasts are lovely. When you book into the hotel you pay for a continental breakfast, but if like me, you like the old full english you can up grade for 1 (one) Euro, bril. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, and please understand that the hotel is an independant now and some tour operators will tell you that it is fully booked, contact them direct, or if your in sidari call in they will show you around. On that note I would just like to mention all the great people there, Erika, Yiannis, Lesley, Yiannis (bar) the lovely Holly, George,Christos and all the others. see you in sept, love stuart --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Akti Aphrodite Hotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

We'll definitely be going back in the near future! The hotel was in an excellent location and the staff were WONDERFUL!! A family run hotel and they were all extremely friendly and we got on realy well. Erika and Holly are both lovely. And youve got to thank George who does all of the pool bar work who is very helpful and its always service with a smile. He'll do anything to help. The Rooms are cleaned every day and are done to a very high standard. There were 4 of us went, Me, my Mum and Dad and my sister. There are plenty of Bars, clubs and fine restaurants. I'd have to recommend Fagins for a Sunday carvery, just as nice as home, if not better. Very helpful and friendly staff and excellent quality food at a good price. A must see is Lady Jane! a great show and absolutely hilarious!! There are many great bars to go to but there are 3 in particular. The Red lion (the comedy club) has different acts on every night, all are excellent and yet again the staff are friendly. Boleros! this bar is a couple of doors up from the hotel on the left-hand side. Sexy Sam, Gorgeous George and Bobby are LOVELY! they are a right laugh and we got on really well with them, miss u loads! and Of course the DJ, he'll download any song for you and is really nice. All the lads are lovely! Mikeys Bar is another good Bar to go to, good food and have entertainment, ideal for familys! During the 2 weeks we were there we went to a chinese, had Sweet n Sour and came back with Food poisoning! stuck in the hotel room All of friday night, saturday and saturday night and most of sunday! definitely wont be going back there again. The chinese was on the way walking down towards the 3 Little Pigs, which also isnt that great as everyone makes outs. The fire and the Greek dancing are good but not the food! You should go to the Aqua Park, a great day out and slides for everyone! Its worth going around the private booking places, we found the cheapest and best deal with the place opposite the Hotel. First Choice wanted to Charge 38 Euros PP and we got it for 19 euros PP!and that was on the Express bus! which only took 45mins! The hotel is going private next year which makes it alot cheaper, especially for familys! its very reasonable for the high standard! The weather was Beautiful, 40+ every day and a lovely cool pool to jump into or the calm sea to swim in! Overall id give the total holiday 9/10! It was Lovely and well be going back next year, and we never go to the same place twice! so thats saying something! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Akti Aphrodite - Sidari Operator and Date: first chioce -july 2004 Opinion submitted in Aug 2004 by : paul leonard (41 39) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Excellent location for the hotel in the middle of sidari and on the beach in walking distance of everything.Found and excellent family ran Greek Taverna which serves the best food in Sidari, it is called The Family and is near to THe Three Little Pigs.Good bars to visit is Balero which does music from 60's to upto date music,The Falcon and Calpyso which are also very good for people that like R and B and clubbland type music. Only about half the lights had working bulbs in them however, but I gather that this is par for the course for Greek Islands. No aircon, and the usual Greek toilet set up (will someone *please* tell the Greeks that plumbing IS now available in the world which accepts toilet paper, and no, it's NOT really good 21st century practise to keep soiled toilet paper in the house!). Pool and bar are well kept and the pool was rigourously cleaned and maintained. I'd have given it an "average" rating but for the following: We had read reviews about this being family run accomodation and friendly. It is a nice small development about 10/20 minutes walk from Sidari town, and when we were there, most people were in their 50's/60's or with young children - all quiet decent people looking for quiet accomodation. So we were all shocked by the bar (2 metres from our bedroom window) having HUGE loudspeakers and running parties for the local population until 0230+ in the morning whilst the guests were trying to sleep. On the first occasion we hoped it would be a one off - I asked the staff the next day and they said it was, and would not be happening again. On the second occasion, I eventually got out of bed and spoke to the staff, there was not one guest in the bar, just drunken locals. In 7 nights, there were 3 nights when this happened - we were utterly tired and shattered as we had trips booked and had to get up the next morning. When asked, the music was turned down (or the outside speakers turned off one time) - however, this meant negotiating with drunks. Most dissapointingly was that a guy who we now think was the owner, who could speak English the day before (and the day after), suddenly claimed he could not when we were asking who the owner was so we could speak to them about it. We felt that they showed utter contempt for the people who were paying. Other guests said they'd wanted to complain, but in one case this was two older ladies and they said they were a bit afraid to. The reps numbers are published without the code you need to actually phone them, so you either have to wait in until about 11am (and thus miss any trips booked or wait in and lose your morning) or as I did, go into town and look up other phone numbers to discover the code. When I first rang and asked for help, in reply the guy (rep) I got simply read out the brochure listing in full to me (bear in mind that I'm in a call box ringing a mobile number & feeding it Euros at a rate of knots) and said "It says nothing about being quiet" !! and would not help at all. On the third night it happened I texted the rep out of hours number and they rang the owners and got the music turned to a sensible level (this is around 2.30am) - I also got a much more civil reply, so I think it was maybe a different rep - obviously some goods ones out there too. So in all, if you or your kids if you have any, don't want to go to sleep before 2am/3am, then this accomodation is OK. Sidari itself had some excellent restaurants and we never had a bad meal once. However, although described as one of the quieter resorts, it is in fact like Blackpool on speed - very, very noisy and brash, there are cars & motorbikes everywhere - even driving along the beach in the dark -so even an evening stroll on the beach can be hazardous. The roads are thronged with motorcycles and cars and in parts there is no footpath, so you really do have to keep your eyes open. The shops are tacky - a couple even selling **very** hardcore DVDs directly beside kids toys! (with cover photos illegal in the UK, showing GRAPHICALLY certain sx acts - er, all I can say is that they are ones which used to be ilegal in the UK at one time!!! - so beware if with children. We spotted them in time thankfully) On the plus side there is an excellent water park called Hydropolis, really good value and easy to spend the entire day there - immaculate and well maintained. Some good trips and a brilliant boat trip. In all, I'm glad we went, but wild horses would not drag me back. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alexia Palm Grove - Sidari Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - Sept 2005 Opinion submitted in Apr 2006 by : Jane 39 mum 69 Resort Rating: Below Average Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: Apartments we stayed in about 5 minutes along the road, so not quite a pool view, we were there for 2 weeks the drains in the bathroom were blocked stunk of sewers, the rep told us it would be sorted out, which meant pouring bleach down it every day!!! the owners daughter alexia told us it was an ongoing problem. There was mildew on the walls and the bedding was what you may expect to find laying on a rubbish tip.The cleaners only came to our apt 4 times in 2 weeks although they cleaned the apts around the pool daily. We went in sept and found it cold with no heating fac in the apt, in fact the rain was so heavy it flooded the walkway and the stairs. The fridge was free standin in between the 2 beds and overun with ants. Sept is not a good time to go here as they were overrun with wasps and yes i was stung in more ways than one. Also we ate at the pool until i got an added extra of a snail in my lunch, we met so brilliant people on this holiday and can easily say i would not go back there even if it was free. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alexia Palm Grove - Sidari Operator and Date: July 2005 Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : Karen Heath (Glasgow) (42, 41, 13,12) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: The accommodation was basic but you expect that with Greece. The sheets and towels had seen better days and the maids seemed to use turpintine instead of bleach and the smell hung around for ages. We were in the Pink block and at first were glad we were beside the pool, but that soon changed when I was lying in bed at 3.30am unable to get to sleep because of the blaring music from the pool bar. I think the guy who ran the place thought he was Fat Boy Slim/the Karaoke King. We had to complain twice and we also complained to the rep and then it died down a bit. The pool area was lovely and there were plenty of beds/umbrellas to go around and the bar was good for snacks but much more expensive than in town (it was 21 Euros for a Greek Salad, two chips, two cokes and two beers whereas you could be a full dinner for 4 with wine and beers for 38 Euros in Oasis). The town is a decent trek and I would say it usually took us 30-40 mins to reach the centre of Sidari but luckily two of the better restaurants were nearer to our appts (Oasis and the Italian - I think it was called Vesuvios). We love Greece and have been to Sidari before but in our opion it had gone down hill a bit and in future we will be trying somewhere else. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alexia Palm Grove - Sidari Operator and Date: (Airtours Direct) Airtours - August 2004 Opinion submitted in June 2005 by : Peter, Rachael (49, 28) Resort Rating: Below Average Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: Our bus ride was really bad, we felt like we had to hang on around the corners, I think the driver must have wanted to be a formula one racer! Along the way we watched as others got off and looked at their accommodation with dread! Most of them looked shocking, so when we eventually got to the Alexia Palm Grove we were pleased. The rep - a kid, (as he looked and sounded like a teenager) dropped us off couldn't find any keys and didn't even know what room we were in, so after all the travelling and nearly two hours in the coach, we were far from happy! We had a studio overlooking the pool. The room was very basic and smelled. There were a few holes in the walls that you could see straight through to the outside they were that big. After discussing with the rep on how we felt on the room, within the hour they had filled up the holes and put bleach down the toilet. The pool was refreshing and clean, it was cleaned around 8pm every night. Sidari was quite a walk. Lots of shops with the usual stuff. The beach was disgusting and we didn't even want to paddle as you could smell sewage everywhere. We ate at Salt and Peppers nearly every night. They were serving a three course meal for 4.50E. We did try a few others but found we always went back as we enjoyed the food and saved money for other treats. Dogs walk around on their own all the time, we even had one follow us all the way from town to our hotel. He didn't look dangerous, but we didn't attempt to stroke him as we wern't sure. There was dog cr*p everywhere, you couldn't walk more that a few feet and you'd have to walk around it. DON'T take any trips with airtours. We booked to go on the corfu town boat trip - after waiting in the baking hot sun for nearly an hour and a half for the coach, (we kept trying the phone number of the rep and of airtours, we gave up). We eventually got hold of airtours around 8.45pm that night. All they could say was we will pick you up in two days time to go on the next boat trip! All in all it doesn't sound that wonderful but after paying a fairly large amount to go on this holiday, once we had our problems sorted out we made the most of this holiday. After all, what's the point in spending your holiday moaning! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alexia Palm Grove - Sidari Operator and Date: (Aspro Discounts) Aspro 2004 Opinion submitted in June 2004 by : steve and carol - york (44 49 15 19) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: We went to this apartment after reading other comments, with dread. But we could not have had a better place. The rooms are basic but not bad by greek standards. They were cleaned regularly and towels and sheets twice a week. The staff were friendly and the owner Alex was more than friendly. The pool area was excellent and the bar was well stocked and reasonable. The food was nice. One thing, if you like an early night, tough. The music goes on till 3-4am whether there is anyone in or not. We stayed in the pink block which was good . The other only drawback was its proximity to the resort. A good 15 mins to town centre. The resort itself was lively at night, which was a surprise. The girls thoughly enjoyed it as the bars were open till late and the clubs till early. Mint well recommended after your drinks in IQ (tho cocktails a bit expensive). If you want a trip go on the Peleo trip. For 4 euros it was great value and the caves are well worth another 6 euros. Dont forget to visit Canal d'amor. The rocks and beach are great and the sea is warm in the cove. One more thing. The mosquitoes will eat you alive. Be prepared. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alexia Palm Grove - Sidari Operator and Date: Late Escapes - Date Not Specified Opinion submitted in Feb 2004 by : Andrea Wood, Richard Dixon (23,34) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: When we arrived at the blue block, an extra part of the Alexia Palm Grove, I must admit, we were a little sceptical. It was 5am and it seemed to be very isolated, almost spooky. I thought the appartment seemed quite small, although it had everything we needed. On opening the balcony door though, I was astonished at the size of the sun terrace. Huge isnt the word!! We were very conveniently situated over a mini market, which was very well stocked, although most of the good crisps and chocolate had gone (sorry!!!) and not been restocked. The main complex of Alexia Palm Grove was about 2 minutes away and there were full facilities, a bar, swimming pool, restaraunt, and the staff, George and Alex, were enough to cheer any holidaymaker up!! It was about a ten minute walk to the main attractions of the resort, so not ideal for high heels, but was a pleasant enough walk. The food we enjoyed was fantastic, not a bad meal all week, I would recommend Salt and Peppers for their fantastic serving sizes, Boleros for their extensive menu and informal atmosphere and heroes bar for eating a fantastic pizza and watching the latest movies. Night life is quite good, considering there were only three main discos. Mint is good for music and podium dancing, pretty small though, faro's fantastic music, and caesars was my favourite for attracting a wide age group, even though the barmen try and get you bladdered with free ouzo and the placew smells of blocked drains. Also worth a visit is the ooh la la bar. Again small, but great fun, brilliant music, but if u ask for a cocktail dont expect what youve asked for, the mad barmen make what they think you should have rather than what you wanted. In our opinion, a fantastic holiday and if you love jewellry you simply have to visit Corfu town, where there is more than you can shake a stick at. The bar is good on the ferry ride back too!!! We had an absolutley fantastic, value for money holiday, the people of Sidari are probably the nicest in the world and im missing them already. Will definatley be going back. Where generally they were good reviews. We thought we had got a good deal until 3 days in to it. Where the bins hadn't been emptied the room hadn't been cleaned and we had to go and buy our own toilet roll which you would expect to be provided. We complained to our rep about it and she sorted it out. Then we found out that the towels and sheets only get changed once a week which is just disgusting. Apart from those points it were ok. thepool was clean the food and drink was nice too. We didn't let this ruin our holiday. Sidari is a must great food and drink and not too expensive either.Pancho's Villa and the three little pigs were probably the best places to eat but a lot of the bars did great food too. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alexis Pool Apartments - Sidari Operator and Date: kosmar may 2007 Opinion submitted in June 2007 by : lorraine, wayne,(the mai party 26+24 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: We have just returned from a 2 week stay in these appartments and found them great,we also stayed here last year,so this tells you they must be good to go back twice.IRENE & COSTAS are lovely, very friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble, hes a real comedian. The pool is gorgeous and cleaned daily it is absolutely spotless, although a little on the cold side but it does the job when your too hot, also has a separate section for kids. The cleaner (sofia) was a lovely lady,i got my feet and legs burned down the beach, and they swelled up and was difficult to walk on,when sofia came in my room to clean it as she does every morning, she asked me what was wrong,i told her, turns out she is a qualified massage therapist and she sat me on my bed and massaged my feet and legs and as a result i enjoyed the rest of my holiday,so thankyou once again sofia your a gem. A real must to try is the polazzo bar at night they do an amazing selection of cocktails, pedros`s woo woo is a must for everyone, the dj in there is a multi tasker,he sings he dances he dj`s and he does all very well,im surprised he isnt famous already!!! We stayed in the Blue Appartments aka Smurf Houses. They are very cute if nothing else not ideal for more than 2 people. You can not honestly go to Greek Island and expect the same standards as the UK. In general toliet paper goes in a bin (trust me its not as bad as you think, I take scented bags for the appartment even though they do get changed every morning). It is a rare occasion you find the shower attatched to the wall, but it just adds to the fun, Greeks do not have shower curtins. We didnt have any insects in the appartment for the full 2 weeks. There is a field at the back of the appartment which is full of little Fire Flies, lovely at night. Pool is freezing but its welcomed, as the sun is very hot. The Alexia is family run. The cleaners are the Aunts and Gran, the whole place is very mucha family affair which is nice. We heard guests moaning about there rooms, but these folk were also the ones that DIDNT leave there appartment all day, only ventured out at night when it was cooler. Word of warning its hot hot there, and it is a bit of a treck to the beach, 10min walk. Its really not that bad I had a pit stop every journey for an ice cream hmm. For breakfast go to the Sea Breeze on the beach 3E for a Hungry Boy, ow my gosh the size of this breakfast! In general the room was rubbish, but there was lots of hot water(a pity none was used to clean the place).Sidari its self was ok nice people as always, the beach clean and safe for children. In general it was very reasonably priced wise compared to other parts of Greece, not what you could call a party resort,it has most things for most poeple. Eating out is our great love and we were not disappointed. We like to eat Greek food and did not have a bad meal, the portions were massive, and well cooked. We would recommend the Athena,Seabreeze,Memories,Olympic restaurants as good places to eat but there are many more.Give Sidari a try but dont stay at this accomodation. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alexis Pool Apartments - Sidari Operator and Date: (Kosmar Discounts) Kosmar - June 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : joe de pasquale-ilminster(48,52) Resort Rating: Below Average Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: after reading the previous reviews we thought we would book a last minute week holiday to corfu in june and take a chance ,we can honestly say alexis pool apartments was the most disgusting accomadation we have ever stayed in,damp, smelly, bed linen smelt of urine,a pipe outside was spraying out liquid from the septic tank onto to our terrace, the owner walked into through our door as my wife was changing to leave on the final day without warning. I wanted to write in now I am back to say I cant understand why some people are saying these things. Firstly yes the apartments are small and basic but how much time do you actually spend in your room. They were clean and although the sheets are only changed weekly the maids do come in every day and empty bins and mop floors etc. The apartments are in a brilliant location close to everything but not too close that you are affected by noise. The pool is great, very clean and well kept. The pool bar is also very good serving excellent food and very cheap. The owners of the Pool and Bar Costas and Irene are very friendly to all people that are polite and friendly back. I thoroughly enjoyed my holiday here in Sidari and was very pleased with my accomodation. I have been on some expensive holidays and cruises where everything is 5 star but still found these apartments great. Dont forget you are in Greece and things are not the same as home. I found no problems with the rooms and the place smelling. It is a very hot climate so occasionaly you are going to get a few problems. We paid extra for Air conditioning and also 20 Euros to keep the room on until 6.00 which was great for us. We asked to keep the room on paid the money and that was it no rules or problems. Holidays are what you make them. These apartments are great and I had no complaints. It is ryt nxt to the bars but this doesnt keep you awake on a night. Dont eat at mikeys inn because we got food poisoning unfortunately. There is some lovely restaurants were the tables are set practically on the beach on a night and it's beautiful. The night life is not Kavos but it is still lively enough. There are different bars to suit everyone really. Some are more lively than the others. The people who own the bar of the apartments are lovely and the food there is really good quality. As for saying they are only nice to you when you are buying their food well we found they were really nice people all the time. We paid for air conditioning which was loads better and only cost 30 euros for 6 days however my cousin didn't and she still slept fine. The pool is also run my irene and costas who own the pool bar and it is always immaculate. They take very good care of it and it is a safe place for everyone. Most days we just stayed round the pool. As far as we are all concerned, a week wasn't long enough and were sad to be leaving. I would seriously recommend going to the waterpark called "aqua land". Dont be ripped off by the reps who charge 34 euros for the trip there n back and entry. There is a shop along the main street and they charge 15 euros for transport and entry, along with many other trips available. It really is a good deal for the amount your getting. Dont be put off by the other write ups because we had a lovely time. However, as it says in another review, keep away from the old man on the beach selling fruit and doughnuts because he ripped me off completely, then tried to take my money out of my hand. Our room was just right, quite small but big enoyugh for the both of us, ours looked over the pool and had the biggest balcony. The cleaners came almost every day, changed the sheets and bins, and cleaned and mopped the floors. The beach was lovely, it was very shallow, even very far out and was very warm in places. It's in a really good spot as you are only 5 minutes walk away from shops and bars but the area of the hotel is very quiet. The pool is lovely, very big. Very good service from the staff, they are all very friendly. The maid service is very good, always clean towels, sheets and very clean. The air conditioning is 35 euros for 1 week and 65 for 2, but really advised to get as it gets really hot at night. The hotel food is ok, not always a great deal to choose from but it was always very good. The entertainment in the hotel is also very good, they have bingo - really good jackpot prizes, we won 600 euros!, Quiz night, greek dancing nights, karaoke and its always nice to be around the bar area in the evenings. There is a supermarket across the road from the hotel so you dont have to go far for a quick bite to eat if needed. The beach is just down the road from the hotel and it is very nice. There is a lot of good bars along the street, the SOS bar is really good always playing good music and its got air conditioning as well which is a bonus. I recommend this Hotel to anyone, it is definatly somewhere i would go back to. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alkion Hotel - Sidari Operator and Date: Thomson Holidays
Opinion submitted in July 2007 by : Roy & Sarah - Colchester Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: This is our 3rd or 4th time at The Alkyon, over the last 14 years or so. Overall it is a lovely friendly hotel and the pool and staff are great. We were ong the 2nd floor, we even had a bath which is very unusual in Greece. We did feel this year that food wasn't up to its normal standard. It is waiter service and we felt that we were rushed, especially by Dino who takes the orders. Whilst taking your order he is looking around the restarant and not really giving you his full attention. A couple of times he got the orders wrong. I think it would help enormously if one of the other waiters was allowed to take the orders. We had to pay for air-conditioning but this was well worth it. It was 65 Euros for 2 weeks. A good tip, once the maids had been (that was another thing, they used to come to your room at 9.00 am), take the key off your electric card (which works the air-conditioning) and insert. Then, when you come back to your room later it is lovely and cool. We didn't get bitten once. We took plug-ins etc, but didn't use them. Apparently the air-conditioning in the room keeps them at bay. We sprayed ourselves before we went out in the evening. Apparently eating Marmite and taking garlic tablets helps. We did see alot of people with loads of bites though. DO NOT book your trips through Thomson Holidays
Although we were half board we did eat out a couple of times in the evening and had lunch out everyday. A few of our favourite places were:- Sea Monkeys - just before you get to the Canel D'Amour Bridge on the right. Great food - massive portions. They only do day time meals but they are great and it is right on the beach. Their baguetts and burgers were massive. We even ordered a picnic from them to take to the airport. Roof-Garden - again great food and over looking the beach - great homemade chips. Litsas Cafe - opposite the hotel. Only small but she will cook whatever you want. Try her Pork Gyros! Dimitri's - this has only just opened. We had a 3 course evening meal for about 7 Euros, which worked out about £5.00 each. The homemade Apple Crumble was lovely - thanks Rachel! We opted for a taxi to and from the resort. We booked this through

I would recommend this hotel. Great for couples (young and old) and families. One end of the resort can be quite noisey, but the other end (where the hotel is), quiet. Opinion submitted in October 2006 by : R & D Thorpe - Norfolk( 54, 47 ) Resort Rating: Below Average Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: We have just arrived home after staying a week at the Alkion Hotel in Sidari with two of our friends. First impressions of our rooms was one of disappointment, rarely have we had such small accomodation, the bathroom was tiny and in need of updating and our balcony was barely big enough for two and did not allow any privacy as overlooked on both sides. Having said this we realise you don`t go on holiday to spend all your time sitting in your room and clean towels and linen were provided most days, so that was nice. Meals were waiter service and were promptly served to your table, having a good choice of dishes to choose from. Pork, Beef, Lamb and Chicken were always on the menu, vegetarian dishes were not offered but on asking a couple of dishes were available ie. vegetable pizza and spaghetti with tomato sauce. A cooked breakfast was available for two euros if the choice of greek yogurt, fruit or cornflakes, followed by two toast is not enough. Although there are no televisions in the rooms, there was always football playing on one of the televisions in the dining area. Evening entertainment was very low key, usually, bingo or a quiz night. Sidari as a resort, was in need of a good clean up. Dirty, foul smelling ditches and river, strewn with rubbish, everything looked scruffy and beware of the roads and pavement areas when walking through the resort. Even the Alkions flowerbeds had more weeds than roses, and this was the norm everywhere in Sidari, just a little effort would go a long way. The one bright spot in the resort would be Canal d'Amour a series of coves, headlands and small beaches. The loud, livlier end of Sidari was a short walk away. The Alkion Hotel end was a lot quieter. All in all, the week we spent at the Alkion Hotel was reasonably good, but we would not return to Sidari again, no way. We would recommend you either get a bus, or hire a car, but get out and see a much nicer side to Corfu. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alkion Hotel - Sidari Operator and Date: August 2006 Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : Mandy Evans - Llandudno (45,17,14) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Back to the Alkion for the 5th year running and still the same great food, great service and great welcome. We still meet the same people who feel the same way as we do..if you want to go to Corfu, you can't do better than to stay here. It's got a quality that makes you want to book as soon as you come home. The thing that works about the Alkion for us is that it's s great jumping off point for a lot of the island's attractions, but feels like home when you get back at the end of the day.Food's great, entertainment is predictable, rooms are clean and unless you get the 3rd floor, basic. But Sidari is vibrant enough for the teens and young at heart and yet the Alkion is far enough away from the bustle if you like to sleep at night! It's also a family run hotel and it shows....they are very amiable and eager to please.Nothing is too much trouble. Treat yourself to one (or three!) of the trips from the travel companies and ignore all the dire warnings from the holiday reps. The local firms are cheaper, more reliable and infinitely frendlier than the holiday company tours. Car hire from the local companies is also fine...haggle a little and you'll get a great deal.Trust me, my Mum lives in Corfu and does this all the time :D And ignore all the warnings from the reps again who tell you horror stories about illegal cars...it's all bunkum.Corfu have laws against any hire car being over 5 years old. So will I be booking for next year?...you betcha!Dino, Ari, Christos, Andrea and all the Spiros....brace yourself...we'll be back :D --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alkion Hotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : Paul - Bristol (12, 15, 18, 43, 44) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Overall A very well presented, clean and professional hotel, suitable for all ages, couples, families and singles. Very good value for money 10/10. Rooms They are all very clean, bright and airy. The rooms we had consisted of 3 single beds, 2 bedside cabinets, 3-person wardrobe, dressing table, small stool and 1 chair. Air conditioning which was ?30 a week extra or ?50 extra for 2 weeks. Balcony has a table and 3 plastic chairs. There are shutters that block out all daylight and it is very easy to oversleep! Bathroom has sink, toilet and bath with shower over it. Loads of toilet rolls and usually hot water 24/7. Rooms are cleaned every day. Fresh towels every day and bedding changed 3 times a week. If you want a late check out, a room can be arranged until 18:00 for
?16 paid extra to the hotel or £22 through Thomson Holidays
Staff All the staff are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. There are English Ladies who work on Reception (Cheri), Dining Room (Andrea) and Donna who works in the Bar on an evening. Breakfast 08:00 - 10:00 Waiter service. Within the price is: Continental breakfast which consists of a choice of Greek yoghurt, fresh fruit salad (not tinned) or cornflakes followed with 2 slices of toast / butter / strawberry jam, 1 glass of orange juice and 1 cup of tea or coffee. For ?2 extra you can have an English breakfast of 2 fried eggs, baked beans, bacon & sausage. Evening Meal 19:00 - 22:00 Waiter service. Within the price you get: Starter - 4 choices - always soup, a Greek speciality and 2 others. Main course - 4 choices - always a chicken, pork, lamb & beef dish usually 1 of them is a Greek speciality (once a week one of these is substituted with fish). These come with chips, jacket, roast and sometimes-mashed potatoes. There are vegetarian options, which you need to ask for which are usually, Spaghetti Neapolitan, Omelette, Pizza, Jacket Potato, Battered Fish and chips or Lasagne. Children can have chicken nuggets, fish fingers or a small pizza, which needs to be asked for. Desserts - 4 choices - usually ice cream, crème caramel, 2 Greek speciality cakes and melon. Drinks - to be paid for (which are reasonably priced). There is no formal dress code in the restaurant so you can either smarten up for the evening meal or just feel relaxed in your shorts and T-shirt. Special Dietary Requirements My son has a wheat allergy and we took over freshly made wheat free bread. All the staff were very accommodating and his bread was put in the freezers so that he could have some for toast every morning. A big THANK YOU to Andrea. Entertainment Entertainment is in the dining room so it does not commence till after the evening meals finish at 22:00. There is a variety of Greek Night, Bingo (with a jackpot of over ?300!), various singers and musicians (which all have karaoke) and an evening of karaoke. Usually, finishes at around 01:00 Facilities Pool - It has a shallow, fenced off area for small children and is very clean. There are lots of sun beds and umbrellas situated around it. Pool closes at 19:00 when the evening meal commences. Fridge - Situated in the reception area and is for use for storing medicines and baby food only. There are no fridges in the bedrooms. Internet - 1 PC situated in the reception and has dial up access at ?2.50 per 30 minutes. Has MSN installed. If you want broadband go to the "Gas Internet" towards Canal D'Amour at ?1.50 per 15 minutes (3 minutes walk from the hotel). Within the Vicinity of the Hotel The beach is only 5 minutes walk away, which has sun beds and umbrellas for hire. There are also water sports and boat hire. The beach never gets crowded. Bars are about 7 minutes walk away, some of them showing films during the day (many that are currently in the UK cinemas). These come to life at night and compete to see who has the best and loudest sound system! The hotel is far enough away to not be disturbed by them. Excursions - do not book through the Thomson Holidays
Excursions Aqualand - This is the main water park on the island, which is approximately 1 hour away by coach. As the island is very hilly, the coach winds around a lot of bends so take precautions if you get travelsick. The water park has free sun beds and umbrellas. Lockers are available at ? 3 + ?2 refundable deposit for small lockers and ? 4 + ?1 refundable deposit for large lockers. You are allowed to take in your own food and drink. It has a wave pool and people are allowed to sit in rings. Hydropolis - This is the second largest water park in the area, which is approximately 30 minutes away by coach. The route to this water park is less winding than Aqualand. The water park has free sun beds and umbrellas. Lockers are available at ? 1.50 + ?1.50 refundable deposit. Watch out for Mosquitoes as the locker room is full of them and the majority of the sun beds are on grass (which had not been cut). There are not many slides at this park as it is smaller than Aqualand and aimed more at families. You are allowed to take in your own food and drink. Greek Night - This is near to Paleokastritsa, which is approximately 1 hour away by coach. As the island is very hilly, the coach winds around a lot of bends so take precautions if you get travelsick. You have a show with music, fire / plate smashing & traditional dancing and audience participation. Meal is 4 course; bread, assorted battered vegetables, pasta dish, turkey with chips / rice / vegetables, salad and melon. Free wine and orange squash all evening. If you book through the Holiday Representative, all you get for the extra money (approximately 80% more) is them re-filling your jugs of drink, dancing around over enthusiastically and blocking other peoples view as they do not have a seat. Watch out for the flower and florescent wristband sellers who are very persistent who forget that you have already said "No" and will shove flowers right up under your nose and clip bands on your wrist before you know it. Odysses BBQ & Boat Trip - You travel to Paleokastritsa, which is approximately 1 hour away by coach. As the island is very hilly, the coach winds around a lot of bends so take precautions if you get travelsick. You then spend the day on a boat touring around the coast line, jumping off the boat to have a swim in the sea and then on to a private beach for 2.5 hours of sun bathing, snorkelling and a BBQ. The beach is private and the water is crystal clear. There are no toilets at the beach and only one on the boat. Meal is chicken, potato, bread, Greek salad, sausage and melon. White wine, water and orange squash is provided as part of the BBQ and is available for the whole time you are on the beach. The beach is shingle and gets hot so flip flops or deck shoes are essential. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alkion Hotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : Anne - Swansea (33, 31, 8) Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: Very disappointed with the resort of Sidari. It's very commercialised and is basically a strip of bars/ pubs and cheap souvenir shops. Excursions are a must for those who want to see the real Greece. Need eyes in the back of your head to walk along the road side... serious shortage of pavements. The main beach in Sidari was smelly (in places) and water was full of seaweed, however, a walk around the corner to the Canal D'Amour revealed many more pretty beaches, and the water was wonderfully clear and fantastic for swimming - also good for young children. These beaches are relatively small, so you need to get there early to find a spot. Watch out for charges. It costs 7.50 Euro to hire 2 loungers and an umbrella! The Alkion Hotel itself was always very clean and the staff were friendly, however the rooms are very basic. If you want air conditioning, it's extra. The pool area was very nice - although to get a lounger, you had to get up very early!! They do tend to get reserved early in the day. Disappointed with the food. Breakfast was waiter service, and appeared to be restricted. "Cup of coffee" was actually a sachet of nescafe, a carton of condensed milk and a jug of boiling water!! Not ideal. English breakfast was nice but this did cost extra. A buffet style would be more flexible! Evening meal was choice of 4 starters and four main courses. Usually meat dishes - just a choice of 3vegetarian meals daily - the same choices every day. Excellent choice of desserts though! The pineapple cake was fantastic. In conclusion, the Hotel was good but not entirely happy with the food situation, however, for us Sidari was a definate no no - with the exception of a few wonderful beaches! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alkion Hotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays
Opinion submitted in August 2006 by : Bonnie - London Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: when we first arrived i thought 'oh my god what have i got my self into' our hotel did look the best from the outside compaired to the rest that we had dropped off to but the area looked run down and unfinished eg building where half finnished and in uses. The hotel room resembled a prison room we felt as it was very small, and the bathroom was even smaller one person at a time with only a shower tray and a curtain the is 2 inches to short to you get a flood each time you use it. but on the bright side the room was always very clean with lovly white towels. The food was ok although if you want a fryed breakfast you have to pay for it. I would recomend the chicken soup and the veg soup at meal times for started. The beach isnt the best beach around it's full of sea weed but the walter is very shallow which is grate for kids. just along the brach is a rock formation which is beautiful and has nice little beaches hidden about and is grate for watching the sun go down. The night life is ok but wouldnt go mad about it (as ive been to ibiza and magaluf) watch out for the locals selling roses and going things and hat they try to force them onto you! (if you do decide to buy something get the price down lower) Make sure to go to the aqualand water park as well is grate. Watch out becasue the roads are scary with big cliff drops on the mounting and the coaches drive fast its best to go to sleep on the coach so you dont no whats going on I did enjoy the hoilday but corfu wasnt for me --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alkion Hotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

For us it was far to commercialised and far too English, if you require some greek culture this is not the place for you! The Hotel was very clean, the staff were all very nice and friendly, the food was ok (waiter service) but I have to say I much prefer buffet style. Entertainment of an evening could be better. All in all a nice holliday, but not one to treasure. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alkion Hotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

First impressions on arrival, we were quite worried when other people were getting dropped off. However when we arrived outside the Alkion we were pleasantly surprised. It got even better when the receptionist was from Doncaster, but Dora the other receptionist was great! We were a party of eight and managed to get allocated four twin rooms together. The rooms were basis but very clean, towels changed daily and the whitest towels we had seen in any other hotel. Excellant pool area facilities. Very clean and always sunbeds avaiable. Again food at the bar brilliant. Sprios makes the best cappaccino in Sidari ! The food was excellant however we never quite managed to time it right as some nights they ran out of some of the main favourite dishes. All staff very polite friendly and professional nothing too much trouble for them at all. Spiros and and other staff are not to be missed with their fantastic dancing... Location exellant for everything. The only criticism would be the beach. It is not very clean. Boat trip to Paleokastritsa is not to be missed. All in all a fantastic hotel and when we return to Sidari we would not want to stay anywhere else. I never did get my Greek CD. Ooops nearly forgot 'Costa' the stray dog at the 'Canal De Maur', he is worth visiting. Has he ever caught a fish? Opinion submitted in Oct 2005 by : Val & Norman Skelton (Retired) Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: First holiday in Corfu and we were very disappointed with Sidari. We found it to be a very dirty and smelly place lacking proper footpaths. I had a very bad fall in Canal d'amour road which was poorly lit though it was a touristy area. This happened on the fourth day of our 2 weeks' holiday and following that we were confined to the Hotel for 10days. If you have an accident do not visit the Doctor opposite Hotel Alkyon as medical care was inadequate. He failed to diagnose my broken foot (!)and I have been in plaster since returning home! I am so glad we booked a round the island trip as we saw the real beauty of Corfu and would have left the island thinking that Sidari was a true reflection of Corfu, which it certainly wasn't. The Hotel was better than satisfactory. Very basic accommodation but spotlessly clean. We were a bit wary of the waiter service situation but meals were more than adequate and nicely cooked. Choice of 4 starters and 4 main meals - something for everyone - and an endless list of desserts. We would never go back to Sidari but, may, in the future return to Corfu. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alkion Hotel - Sidari Operator and Date: sept 2005 Opinion submitted in Oct 2005 by : Lee, Christine, Harry { 33 and 3 years } Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Opinion: Great holiday for the price, hotel was very clean, food nice even to the fussiest. Staff really pleasant, entertainment sometimes a bit poor, but i did win 320 euros on bingo !!! Hired a car for 4 days which was worth it as you can get around easily, although some of the roads are hair raising !! Kassiopi was a nice place to stop for a few hours. The main road is a bit scary of a night, you could not take your eyes of youngsters, not only for the cars but for the side walks having ditches full of water in them !! keep away from them if you don't like frogs. Pool was nice and clean and plenty of beds, got the feeling the owner did'nt like the lilos being left lying around, they usually only lasted a few hours before they where burst. Went HB for 2 weeks. Thought the resort was great. Shame the beach was grubby, but we still made good use of it for sun bathing and the water sports that they offer, which is always a good laugh. The restaurants were nice with good waiter service (good value for money) The night life was also very good. Wasnt a night we didnt want to go out and enjoy it. There is lots of bars and some good clubs. The drinks are cheap and you can dance all night. The hotel was good. Generally clean with maid service daily. (if your out of bed in time that is!!) The food was great, with plenty of choice and are enough for someone with the biggest appitite! The entertainment is good. Ranges from quiz nights and bingo to karoke and greek dancing. The staff are very friendly, making an effort to speak to us on the first day we were there, and continued thoughout our stay. Even escorting on most of our nights out! Watch out for your straightners though. when they found out about ours they were all queing up for us to straighten and wax their hair! bless them. (Baby spiros you know we are talking about you!!!) Will definately be returning to the hotel next year and will be bringing more of us! Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : 34,31,8 Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: I can't find anything bad to say about the hotel, it was great, the food was spot on as well as the service, very clean and well kept, looked after the kids and even kept them happy at meal times by basically making them whatever they wanted, whether it was on the menu or not, mosquito's seemed a problem for others but plenty of repellent kept us bite free throughout the fortnight, the resort itself was mabye a little run down but plenty to see and do, but the beach isn't going to win any prizes for cleanliness, but a short walk further down the coast there are a few smaller coves with nice sandy beaches, the stray dogs seemed to be a bit scary at first but speaking to the local charity shop who provide for them did relax us a little when approached by them, loads of shops selling the usual holiday stuff and loads of bars and plenty of places to eat, greek, chinese, indian and english even mexican, if i was ever to go back to corfu, i would definately book at this hotel. So thanks to the boys and Andrea for a fab holiday. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alkion Hotel - Sidari Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

The waiters, food and resort was well above satisfactory. Me and my family had been going there for more than three years and will be going back for many more years to come. ARRIVAL: the arrival was great, we arrived late at night so the restaurant was shut. Dora, one of the receptionists, is very well mannered and is a verry good friend of ours. She shown us to our rooms which over looked the pool. ACCOMMODATION: the room we stayed in was basic but just what you needed. Ours had three beds, a dressing table, massive fitted wardrobes and the bathroom. The rooms are cleaned every day and are spotless on arrival. FOOD: the food was delicious. The menu was changed each night and is waiter service. Deano the head waiter and restaurant manager is happy to settle any problems and is another good friend of ours. Yainni who works behind the bar is very friendly and we have on many occasions been invited to his house. LOCATION: the location is brill. It is just out of the town centre and i'd say the best hotel for miles. There is a mini market opposite the Alkion and two gift shops as well. We have already booked to go next year and can't wait !!! Whoever goes here is guarenteed an amazing time. It is so relaxing and laid back, but don't worry, if you like something going on, there is entertainment every night and the town centre just a few minutes walk away form the hotel is jam packed with greek and english clubs, bars and restaurants.
