My/Our Holiday Review:

Arrived at these apartments at around 5.30am. We had booked 2 studios as we were unable to get an apartment. The studio's were clean but basic and were cleaned 4 times a week, by a lovely lady called Christina (she's the one you have to see if you want to keep your room after 12.00 on your final day - cost 25euros up until 8.00pm)

These apts and pool are owned by a gentleman who lives in Corfu town. The pool is open to anyone who wishes to use it,( as are most pools here) as long as you use the bar for your drinks and food. The prices are slightly higher than in the town but thats the same as every other pool bar.

The bar is run by a lovely couple named Angelos & Anna, they could not do enough for you, and have a lot of repeat clients some stretching back 20 years!!!

As for Roda itself, we found it to be not to commercialised but not to small. You could eat in a different restaurant every night for a fortnight. We did not have a bad meal in the entire fortnight - enough said.

All in all would we go back to Roda - definately. Would we go back to the Alexandros apts - definately. Go and have a great holiday.

Hi,

We spent 2 weeks early May 2007, for the beginning of the season ,at the Amorossa Apts, for a great relaxing holiday, just what we needed, and would definately go back. The accommodation was excellent , the location we couldnt ask for anything better, the people we could not fault.Petros and his family at the Amorossa made us very welcome, and made sure we enjoyed our stay as much as possible. We cant wait to go back, Well done Amorossa!!. Plenty good local places to eat and drink at night, and only about ten mins away.Lots of trips available at cheap prices too .We went by cruise for the day to Albania , well worth the money.Plenty to see and do if you want to and Roda would suit all ages, after all the holiday is what you make of it, and we sure did do that!!

My/Our Holiday Review:

just come back from amarossa, all i can say is, it was the best holiday ever.

the amarossa is situated on the beach with brill views.the only draw back the poor lightning when walking into roda. must take a torch.

the amarossa is owned by Andreas and his wife, whom we did not meet as she was in england, but was assured she is very nice. Andreas made our holiday he is such a lovely and helpful person who could not do enough for you, nothing was a problem. infact everyone from the gardner to the cleaners and the bar staff was brill they were so friendly. i would recomened these apartments they were very clean and contained. must eat in the navigator, the meal was cheap and presented at a high standed, also nico's and if you like big meals then maggies bar is the best, they serve fish and chips in portions of small, medium, and large, if you can eat the large one you win a t-shirt, i had the small fish when it arrived it was the size of a whale. Roda is a small little village, which is friendly and you do feel the greek culture, the beach is lovely.

roda is not a lively place and i hope it stays like that.

i would love to return to roda and stay in the amarossa keep up the good work andreas, the meals in the amarossa was very good and cheap. we were a party of six and we all agreed of all the places we have been to in the world, roda and the amarossa was the best for service, kindness, views, and the friendly relaxed atmosphere and the clean rooms and the swimmimng pool.

hope when you have read this and you try the amarossa you enjoy it as much as we did.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Great flights got this 7 day holiday off to a good start. The bus transfer equalled, as far as scenery was concerned, an expensive guided tour. The apartments were roomy, spotless & extremely well equipped in comparison to other studio's we've been to in Greece. They were in fact two seperate rooms divided by an arch. One contained a new kitchen unit made up of a sink, two electric rings, a fridge, storage drawer and an oven which had controls for a grill and a toaster. There was also a kettle, a table & two chairs. Through the arch were comfortable beds, wardrobe, drawers and shelves also bedside tables with drawers. The terrace was large with table & chairs for sitting out.

The apts. were cleaned six days out of seven by friendly helpful obliging staff and on site was a fantastic pool & bar with free sunbeds and parasols which served reasonably priced good measures, and a variety of well cooked snacks and meals all day. Andreas and Natalie are so energetic and friendly and make you feel so welcome.

The site is right on the beach, more or less on the border between Acharavi and Roda, which can be reached in a ten to fifteen minute walk. We didn't have time to eat in all the resaurants recommended but Roda Park, Maggies & Nico's in Roda and Vamos in Acharavi were our favourites. We would return here without any hesitation. You can choose how quiet or busy you want your holiday to be.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We went back to Roda 14th August 2006 we stayed yet again at the Aphrodite every thing was the same the hotel was as always spotleesly clean, the staff helpful and friendly, the breakfast same as always, but one exception, they now have airconditioning putting the icing on the cake!! when you go to Roda (not if) you must go to Odysseus at least once for a wonderful tradition meal, say hello to Theo, and if you need some English food you will not get a better meal in all of the Greek Islands than Maggie's try her Home cooked Ham with her own mustard fantastic.

And last but definitely not least you must go into the BIG BEN (next door to the Aphrodite)you will get a big welcome from Yannis and Dimitris, you can watch any sport you may be missing, and if you ask him nicely he will put other programms on as well, wish him good luck on the birth of his baby son in December.

we shall return next year

My/Our Holiday Review:

Roda is a nice small place for a peaceful holiday,no real late night disco's etc. There is a nice shingle/sandy beach and all hotel pools are for public use as long as you buy the odd drink.

Would recommend- Roda Tavern,Danny's bar and pool, Maggies,Odypeus(Meze superb),Roda Park and the Chinese was good.

Hotel Aphrodite- served the same breakfast every day if you like a ham/cheese cob you will love it, they don't overdo it with the tea and coffee either.

The management were generally helpful and courtious but, the waiting and bar staff had a problem with the guests ie. you felt like you were an inconvienience to them.

The hotel restaurant was the worst for fly's and wasp's in Roda.

Smoking during meals seems to be acceptable in Greece, we found this annoying!

Got the bus to Kassiopi, Corfu, Sidari and Acharavi were all nice places and bigger than Roda.Would choose Kassiopi if i was to return for a week.

Boat trip to Erikousa and Mathraki was good, from lady outside Roda Beach Hotel.

Abania trip was not worth the money, twelve hour trip and had three hours in albania!

My/Our Holiday Review:

Just come back from 2 weeks in Roda staying at the Aphrodite. We had the best holiday we have ever had. We couldn't fault anything about either the resort or the hotel.

The hotel is basic but clean. We have never been to Greece before but from other reviews we didn't expect five star luxury but then we didn't pay five star prices so you have to be realistic about what to expect. The staff were freindly and helpful. I asked for extra pillows and these were put in our room within an hour of asking for them. The brochure does not state that there is air-con, but there is at a charge of 5euros a day. We paid for it as rooms unbearable without it.

Breakfast was actually really nice despite some of the other reviews. It consisted of a boiled egg, glass of orange juice, huge bread roll, french toasts, slice of cake (nicest cake I have had anywhere believe it or not!!!!)cheese and ham, butter, jams, marmalade etc, tea and coffee. It kept us going well into the afternoon and made a change from the usual breakfast we have at home.

The beach was small but clean, didn't get crowded and sunbeds were cheap and comfortable.

The pool at the hotel was great too. Never had to battle for a sunbed and there were always plenty free when returning from the beach late afternoon. The pool bar served great snacks - the nicest being the toasties and sandwiches. be careful of the drink prices around the pool though. They charged 1.60 euros for a large bottle of water when the shop next door only charged 60cent. There is a strict rule about bringing drinks to the pool from outside and the lady behind the pool bar actually told me to get rid of a bottle of drink that I hadn't bought from the pool bar. I thought this was rather mean, but I suppose they have to make their money somewhere.

The resort of Roda was perfect for us. Plenty of places to eat and drink. We loved Roda Park - the Greek Night in there was fantastic. Costas and his wife are great hosts. We also loved The Dolphin where everything is cooked on a big BBQ grill, the fish there was the best. The mexican restaurant is delicious too. We also ate three times at the Aphrodite's restaurant where people staying in the hotel get 10% discount. The food in there was great.

There are plenty of bars, we liked Pirates (down by the beach), we went there most nights, The Drunken Sailor was good too and played music until late and also showed films throughout the day if you wanted to get out of the sun. Bennys bar (nextdoor to Maggies) was also good for a quiet drink.

Overall the nightlife there is perfect for couples like us who don't want the 18-30's pace but like to go out and have a drink etc.

We went on three trips whilst we were there which we booked through the travel shop opposite the beach. Much cheaper then the Reps prices. We did Corfu Town Night Cruise which was good. Corfu town is busy but has a great atmosphere. We went on the Beach BBQ daytrip which was also good although the food on the BBQ was not that special. We went to the Hydropolis waterpark in Acharavi. A good day out and really nice waterpark, not so big as Aqualand but close to Roda so we decided to go there instead.

Overall our holiday was brilliant. I would definately go to Roda again and would also go to Hotel Aphrodite again.

The thing to remember is it is not 5star, you get what you pay for. As long as you keep that in mind I am sure you won't be disappointed!!!

I am jealous of anyone booking a holiday there as I am so depressed to be home!!!!!

Happy holidays!!!!!

The Hotel Afrodite was great, clean, nice people and a lovely, quiet pool. The breakfast was basic, but good. Our room was again clean, the cleaners came every day! Our room over looked the sea- beautiful view.

We really enjoyed our stay in Roda, beautiful beach and loads of restaurants! We went to Roda Park one night, it was brilliant, great host and great food, i would recommend this restaurant to all!!

We went to Pirates bar most nights, which was great- affordable cocktails and Karoke and games every night, the staff were really friendly too. We also went to the Drunken Sailor, which played music and also has a big screen tv- showing all the english soaps! Loads to do and lots of choice- ate in a different restaurant every night!

we have just got back this morning and already thinking about booking for next year. We will not be staying at the afrodite though. although the hotel was very nice and the staff were friendly it wasnt for us. there were no personal amenities such as a kettle and the breakfast was very basic.

The hotel was very clean but the cleaners were a pain, although they are needed but not at 9.30 in morning, easpecialy on the morning you are leaving and dont need to be out till noon. as our flight wasnt until 2.20am we thought we would have a long lie, we thought wrong not only did they move every piece off furniture in our neighbouring room and banged it against our wall, they came, knocked on our door to get. obviously they didnt get in.

as for roda itself it is an absolute wonderfull place. this is our fourth time here and we will keep on going back. but what you have to remember when you go to corfu it is very basic but that is the simplicity of the island and what makes the holiday, so please remember that and you will appreciate it more.if it was update it wouldnt be so friendly. the locals are very friendly and welcoming especialy the staff at the tropicana (crossroads). the atmosphere here is superb.telle the boss, camilla, liz and vasilles are bloody funny. the dj tim is sound.he will kill me for saying that. the food here is devine and very reasonable (try their chicken kebab).

you must make good use of all the pools, dont feel grudged about buying a drink at the pool as it is not asking much for use of the pool.

i would definately recommend roda to anyone who wants a holiday, it is so relaxing and you feel like you have actually had a holiday.

Hotel

We found the hotel to be clean and comfortable, the rooms were cleaned everyday and clean towels left every 3 day. We had to pay for a few extras i.e. safe - 10 euros per week, extra room hire (for late pickup) - 25 euros. The breakfast was adequate, extras were available for a small charge. The pool area was clean and served snacks and drinks at reasonable prices. I found the hotel staff to be friendly and i had no problems with our room or any other service. Unlike english hotels there is no facilities to make drinks or a fridge to use which would have been useful, but this is greece and not what is usual for small hotels.

Resort

Although i wouldnt call the resort traditionally greek, there are plenty of traditional tavernas to enjoy greek hospitality, we liked Nikos and the New Port. There are a lot of English bars, but it is easy to avoid them if you want to which we did. The beach is small but the sea is very shallow, therefore very safe, it was warm enough for a swim in May, sunbeds which reasonable. 6-8 euros for 2 beds and umbrella for the day.

Corfu

We only stayed one week in Roda, but managed to cram in a few sight seeing trips-

Corfu Town - a beautiful venetian town with plenty of things to see and do, we went there by boat from Kassiopi booked through Nosta tours on the beach road. very reasonable at 14.5 euros each, for a full day out - this dosent include guides etc just the basic cost of bus and boat.

Sunset Beach, Sidari, Arachavi, Nissaki - we hired a moped for the day 20 euros plus petrol, and managed to cover quite a bit along the North coastline. the views were stunning especially sunset beach. Riding a moped not for the faint hearted but we survived.

Albania - a fantastic day out, a real chance to see a country that has suffered so much in recent years finally able to start to build itself - a trip to the roman ruins at Butrini is a must, the journey there is stunning but a bit scary on roads not quite finised!

Scuba Diving - booked through Rep (Thomas cook) - a great expereince with excellent supervision and training.

All in all a great holiday, a lovely island which i would definately visit again to see more of. The hotel is a good base.

My/Our Holiday Review:

It was the end of the season when we went in October but I am a teaching assistant so I have no choice.

When we arrived at the hotel (after a 2 hour transfer from the aiport on the narrow coast road) we were met by a woman on reception who was very pleasant she told us room number, meal times etc. We never saw anyone on reception for the rest of our stay. Our room was basic but OK, I had booked a sea view which did have a lovely view. Also the pool was lovely and looked really clean

The hotel serves the same breakfast every single day, which consists of bread rolls, french toast, a hard boiled egg, a slice of cheese and a slice of ham each and a couple of cartons of jam and a glass of orange juice. We ate breakfast 3 times and that was enough. A cooked breakfast is available but you have to pay extra. The evening meals were `interesting`, the menu mainly consisted of pasta and pizza dishes with a couple of meat dishes. I did'nt mind because I enjoy pasta but my husband does not like pasta so he was a bit dissapointed with the menu. We did eat out more often than we normally would when we go half board. I would, however, like to compliment the waitress Eurenie she was lovely and nothing was to much trouble for her and also Dikas the waiter who tried to make the meals sound more inviting and the red wine was the best I have ever tasted.

I would like to mention The Roda Tavern which is run by an English couple who were very welcoming, we had a couple of good nights in there also Roxannes we ate there a couple of times and also the Roda Park. The local people were great.

I thought Roda was really nice and I would definitely like to go there again, although I don't think I would stay at the Aphrodite. I felt that we (the guests) were a complete inconveience to the staff in the hotel (probably because of the time of year). Whilst I realise it was the end of the season nothing was due to close until the monday we left but lots of places were closed.

Finally I would like to appologise to the couple from Manchester with their little boy Elliot, we did'nt say goodbye but I think you know how desperate we were to get on that coach!!!

Recommend taking cleaning materials: loo seat and lid = excrement. Floors dirty and drawers /wardrobe not been cleaned from previous occupants.

Needs air-con. Noise from the road very bad (midnight until 3 am, starting again at 6am) as coaches, delivery vans etc have to use the hotel corner to turn round. Beds comfortable. Staff friendly, public areas clean, pool area good. Recommend Nikos and Maggies for food. Local car hire companies very reasonable. Beaches in the north very good.

the hotel aphroditi is one of the better ones in the resort. the staff are very helpful and friendly. the hotel is very clean and the pool is excellent. there are many good places to eat in the resort but we used the hotel restuarant, and a little place right on the beach which is called AVRA many times as the food was always very good. George the waiter is a bit of a character but good fun. the Splendor bar just around the corner from the aphroditi is a good place to have a drink, listen to music. watch t.v. or catch one of the latest films. Theo the barman is really nice and helpful and he can do a bit of majic for the younger kids. say hello to him if you go. there are lots of trips you can take but we enjoyed the boat trip to corfu town and also a boat trip to erriskousa island. that was a very beautiful place.

all in all a great holiday resort for families and we hope to go back some time soon.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Excellent family run hotel. All the staff were family members from management to cleaners. All staff very friendly and helpful. We were made very welcome. The rooms were very clean and comfortable but would have benefited from air con (although fans could be hired for a reasonable charge). We had booked rooms with a sea view and awoke every morning to the most stunning views - worth every penny of the minimal extra charge. The rooms were cleaned every day and the bedding and towels changed about every third day. Continental breakfast was included in the price and was very good and varied. A full English breakfast could be provided at extra cost but we found the continental breakfast quite adequate.

The pool was very clean and well cared for. When we were there in late June and early July we had no difficulty getting sunbeds and there was always a nice quiet and relaxed atmosphere. Angelo, the pool barman, ran everything like clockwork and nothing was too much trouble for him. Food from the snack bar was good and varied and reasonably priced. There was a wide selection of books, newspapers and magazines which could be borrowed free of charge and this was an added bonus.

The resort itself is lovely - as yet quite unspoilt by tourism. A quiet village atmosphere but quite lively in the evening, although not filled with clubs and discos, rather informal entertainment in the local tavernas.

The best taverna by far in Roda is Niko's. The food was excellent with many Greek specialities (more than any other restaurant in the resort)and we were always welcomed warmly by Niko and his wife, Lucy. The only problem was trying to leave the restaurant at the end of the night because Niko kept supplying us with complimentary wine!

We found the best (and cheapest)excursions at NSL Travel. The "Mountain Safari" to Pantokrator is one not to be missed! The mountain scenery is absolutely breathtaking and the food at the Oasis Taverna in Strinilas village is to die for!

All in all one of the best holidays we have ever had and thoroughly recommended to anyone looking for a traditional Greek atmosphere.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Corfu is a stunning Island. The people are fantastic, but, Roda was not our idea of a Greek holiday resort.

It has been taken over by English tourists which would be ok if it was a large resort and that they had adopted Greek ways, but this isn't the case.

What you have is a neon crammed small resort, filled with establishments like The British Bulldog, Maggie's Bar, the Roda Tavern etc that are constantly showing English Football (Premiership and Championship), constantly available Full English Breakfast and roast beef and yorkshire pudding (imported for your delication) instead. Why not just go to Jersey or the Isle of Wight for Heavens sake?

Personally, if I go to Greece I want the Greek experience.

At one time Roda was probably a lovely little village. It certainly isn't anymore.

THe Hotel Afroditi was ok. Basic rooms that were cleaned on a daily basis. Unfortunately, you have all the noise associated with the town, the English Tourists (arguments outside the hotel on frequent basis in the early hours of the morning), the road that runs right outside the hotel (be careful if you ask for a sea view) and The BIg Ben Bar that sits right next door (it can generate some noise I can tell you). The breakfast in Hotel is interesting. It is set, not a buffet help yourself affair. If you want anything other than a boiled egg, roll, piece of ham and cheese etc. like...for instance...real toast and not some that come out of packet then you have to pay for it.

Eating out was great. During the day we had the usual Gyros Pittas or Tiropitas for lunch (two or three places you can get either in the town) and at night there are three Tavernas I would recommend. Out towards Acharavi there is the Coral Hotel. The food, staff and surroundings here are great. Quieter but a litle more expensive than in the town. If you don't fancy this then Nikos and the Panorama were both excellent places to eat, with great food and staff for not too much money at all. We always had starters and main course, with at least one drink each and the bill never got close to 30 Euros. On average we were paying around 25 Euros per night.

High points in our Holiday:

Food

Towns people

Scenery

Excursion to Kefalonia

Low Points:

Disturd sleep on a nightly basis

Neon Overload

Lack of Greek feel.

A lot of people will throughly into Roda. Everyone does speak English, maybe you are not into Greek food, you still get your John Smiths and Walkers Crisps. This appeals to lot of people, but not to me I'm afraid.

If it does you will love the heat and friendly locals.

If it doesn't, do not go to Roda. Pick your resort on Corfu with great care but still go as it is breath takingly lovely.

We stayed at the hotel during August and found it to be very pleasent with plenty do to. The bar, restaurant and hotel staff were all very friendly and when asked they couldn't help enough.

The food was great where ever you went and suprisingly cheap. Each night out proved to be a great laugh with plenty of bars to choose from especially the British Bulldog(with Rob and Max) and Mistrals bar (Scooby Doo!!, if you've been you'll no what I mean). Definatley would go back to the resort in a couple of years to see it again. We did everything from boat trips, horse riding, banana boats and visited the nearby resorts of Sidari and Kassiopi.

Recommended to anyone who has never been to Corfu.

A very pleasant resort, but not particularly lively. Lots of Tavernas, bars and restaurants to choose from and all places very good value for money. Everybody was very friendly and helpful and many establishments were run by British people. I particularly liked the fact that you could use any of the swimming pools in the resort rather than just the one in your own hotel. We used "Dannys Bar" pool which was very clean and quiet, they served good food in a friendly environment

Stayed for the first two weeks of season, first visit to Corfu, having been to a few Greek Islands, found Roda to be just perfect, plenty tavernas, people very friendly, no looky looky men!!!. Hotel Aphrodite was very clean and well run. Also has an excellent restaurant, (you get 10% disccount for being a resident), but it's great value for money anyway!

Excelllent pool bar, but could do with more sun-beds, as all pools are open to the public, and could imagine how busy it would be in height of season. Could do woith a rule of banning people from booking sun-beds before breakfast! (The Brits are actually worse that the Gerrys).

Would recommend eating in the Captains' (The Port) he and his crew are something else, say hello to Costas from us!

We will return!!!

We booked our holiday privately in The Banos Apartments and we were very impressed at the standard of accommodation for Corfu. The family who run the complex are called Margaret, Roy and Louise and they all could not do enough to help during our stay with them. The apartments had a very well run and extremely clean pool with bar and snacks should you want this. We passed many an hour with the family because they were so easy to get on with. Louise even styled my hair so well lots of people made comments about it. Roy himself comes to pick you up from the airport if you would prefer that and the drive takes about 50 minutes as opposed to the usual two and a half hours on the coach. He will take you back as well if you would like that. When we arrived Roy met us having waited in the airport for over two hours and then drove us to the apartments. Margaret was up and waiting for us at 6am in the morning, then they both started work at 9am I do not know how they managed some days.

When we arrived we had coffee, tea, sugar, water and milk waiting for us to make a drink. That was very welcome, I must say. The next day we went out to get toilet rolls only to be told they are provided! Oh well. That is not usual in Corfu.

When we left they came back to meet us, gave us a farewell drink and said goodbye. We were very sorry to leave. I must say it was the most enjoyable experience in Roda that we have had so far at Roda and we have had many holidays there.

We met up with quite a few of our friends who had been before and quite a few more that we met along the way. Roda itself is a lovely little village, everybody remembers everybody. Everybody has always got a friendly word to say to you, there are not that many children there which is good. There are more children in the holidays obviously.

Go in the Harbour Bar, the owner is very nice "once" you get to know him. Go into the Captains, Vangelis is his name for a meal, it is very nice but if you do not like big portions then ask for a small one. You should also go to Smileys which is next door to the Captains. The Roda Park has good specials and is always full. The Chinese is brilliant, Vasilis and Mechalis were the people who ran it, and they were brilliant. Mention Heather and Robert if you go into any of these places, the Roda Park may not know us as well but everyone else should.

Since we visited the Banos Apartments, the prices have been increased for next year. When we visited they represented extremely "brilliant" value for money and were well worth the money and would have been extremely happy going back.

The other thing that was very good at the Banos Apartments, we left at midnight which is so often the case in Corfu and we did not vacate our room until midnight, we did not get charged any extra for the two days that we spent there over and above what we had paid for, so I think that was very kind. We were staying for a month and would have liked to stay for longer but were not able to.

I would recommend couples, singles and grown up families to go to Roda, you will meet some really nice local people and some really nice people who are not so local and they will remember you!

Looking forward to Roda next year.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We have not long got back from the blue gardens & i would not concider this to be a 3*. The hand towel you get has to last you for a wk. The sheets are changed once a wk if you think putting the top sheet on the bottom and a fresh one put on top is a change then you will be ok but i personally think both should be changed. The rooms are very basic the beds are like sleeping on concrete so if you dont have a abad back you soon will have. The pillows are paper thin. The bins are emptied but carrier bags are used instead of bin liners, i gave the cleaner some myself as she was running out.

The pool was nice but not for adults as you couldnt dive or have a good swim the deepest end is 5ft.The sun loungers are as bad as the beds you sleep on HARD.I also hope you like dogs because there are plenty roaming round.I would never return not in a million years.COCKADOODELDOO

thats what you will hear every day any time as they do not have whatches.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Having just returned home yesterday from my first visit to Corfu I must write and say how very impressed I have been with my holiday.

This year out of all the holidays I have booked was the first time I haven't wanted to return home to UK.

The Blue Gardens is a place I can highly recommend to anybody wishing to book friendly and clean accomodation. Being only a small complex of 11 rooms staying there was just like being part of an extended family.

Elena, Andreas and their beautiful daughter Marianthi along with Kostos, helped to make our stay the best we have ever had. They went out of their way to make us feel so very welcome and comfortable.

Our Rep. Rob was the most helpful we have had too, nothing was too much trouble for him and he was very family orientated, infact he was brill!

There isn't anything I can say disrespectful to the Blue Gardens or its hosts. My son Christopher fell in love with Marianthi the two year old there and longs to see her again next year. The only thing was the weather was too hot for my hubby sometimes reaching 46c.

We will most definately be booking to go there next year although when the weather is a bit cooler in September!!! lol!!!

Hats off to Elena, Andreas, Marianthi and Kostos...see you again next year!!!

For Greece these apartments were well appointed with the best equipment I have had including kettle and toaster and an oven/microwave and fridge

Owners and Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Appartments were clean and fresh.

This is one place I would book into again.

Hire a car and explore the island and book your own trips.

The trips you are offered by the reps can be expensive.

This place is very reasonable price wise

5 Euros a week for safety deposit box

5 Euros a week for fan hire

My/Our Holiday Review:

Our second year at the Blue Gardens, Roda and what another fantastic holiday, Elena and Andreas (and Marianthi, their 11 month old daughter) are fantastic hosts and just want to make your holiday that extra bit special, also can't forget Julie and Costas. The apartments are in excellent condition, clean and have loads of wardrobe and drawer space. There is plenty of choice on their menu, which includes tradational Greek food as well as plenty of English. But if you don't want to eat at the apartments then I would recommend Roda Park and Panorama, both offer excellent food and good value for money, I would also suggest trying the Mexican and Chinese.

Overall we had a fantastic holiday, with lots of fun and games. If you want a nice family holiday then this is the place to go.

Roda is a lovely resort, not too rowdy, if you want noise then I would suggest Sidari.

I would also recommend Kassiopi to visit and Acarahvi is just a walk along the beach.

My/Our Holiday Review:

BLUE GARDEN APARTMENTS - Small block of apartments, about 5 minutes walk from main bit of Roda. Lovely apartments all white and blue, with a nice pool area, and a brand new pool. Set at the bottom of beautiful hills, with trees all around. Also childs area of pool, totally seperate from main pool. Main pool only 1.5m in deepest area however. Due to the fact we were there in the first week of the season, the pool was absolutely freezing however! Apartments themselves are quite small, but the 2 bed one in which we were in was fine and big enough for us. Seperate kitchen and bedroom, which was good. The apartments could maybe do with a little updating inside - the fridge had seen better days, and the taps were going a bit tarnished, but for a two star place we were more than happy. The bathroom only has a shower, but is plenty big - shower also has curtain and shower mat etc, for all those who cannot live without them!

There is a bar there which serves a surprisingly large selection of food, including some Greek dishes - we just had the basics - a couple of toasties for lunch, a burger when we got there, and a breakfast - they were all fine.

The apartments are run by Andreas and Elena, who both speak English, and who are very friendly and welcoming. They also have a young daughter (about 12 - 18 months) who is one of the most cheerful babies you will ever see! Never saw her cry once the entire time we were there. Elena and Andreas seemed willing to do anything for you.

Although the apartments are a bit away from the town, this is actually quite good, as its only a short walk into town, and means that its absolutely peaceful up at the apartments. There isn't a path to walk down, so you are walking on the road, but all the drivers seemed to expect to see people, and slowed down. The only problems we saw was one family walking on the wrong side of the road (you walk INTO the oncoming traffic so it can see you!) and all walking well into the road, so they were a hazard. Its quite a quiet road as well, especially the later it gets. Also we saw loads of fireflies up and down this road when we were wondering along in the dark. Street lights all up the road however, so no need for torches. Taxi rank at the bottom of the road however if you are feeling REALLY lazy! Fine for kiddies I think, as long as you're holding on to them.

Safe rental 5 euro, fan rental 5 euro too - rooms quite cool however, so might not need it. Can also get a potty and baby bath from Elena if you need it.

The only slightly dodgy bit about the apartments was the cleaning. Although the cleaner did the floors etc (and even the dishes!), the sheets and towels weren't changed, which is pretty neccesary when you're smothering yourself in either suntan lotion or aftersun all day.

We generally thought the apartments were quite good the money we were paying, which at £235pp for a week, was pretty much next to nothing.

RODA VILLAGE/ CORFU - Corfu on a whole was okay, but every part of the island that we saw was generally quite grubby and run down. We really didn't see anything very Greek about the island at all, except Corfu town, and even then all the buildings could have done with a good lick of paint. There were a couple of things to see in Corfu town, but most of it was just tourist tat shops - with quite aggressive staff!

Roda itself was okay, but there is NOTHING there except places for tourists. The whole place closes down for the winter, and pretty much no one lives there all year round. Roda was nice, but we didn't think it was very Greek at all. Again, it could also do with a bit of renovation/ investment. There are quite a few wild dogs and cats around, and although these were very friendly, they were obviously a bit of a health hazard. Roda beach is okay, and not as bad as some say, but is definitely not a beach lovers paradise - the sea was nice and clear however. Roda is pretty tiny, which is what we were looking for, but alas we were looking for tiny as in Greek village charm tiny, not miniature bog standard blackpool type tiny.

One comment that summed it up 'Feels like we could be anywhere'.

EATING/ DRINKING - Got the best meals at Roda Park, which makes a joke out of its rubbish service, but is actually okay. The quieter it is, the better it is I think however. Maraki (only has greek written name on outside - tiny place across from Mistral Bar) did amazing Gyros - Greek Kebab - and was very cheap. Could get kebab to take away as well as sit in - a lot of Greeks in and out as well. Everyone seemed to think the the Odysseus was amazing, but food wasn't quite as good as the Roda Park, and was quite a bit more expensive - okay but overpriced. Maggies does excellent fresh Fish and Chips (North Sea cod oddly enough!), but beware, the large is actually very very big - it comes on a serving platter, not a plate, so maybe think before you try to show off! The small would probably do most people, or the medium if you're feeling ravenous. Maggies was also quite nice for evening drinks. The Roxanne bar was quite nice on the waterfront, with a friendly guy behind the bar. Aphrodite just next to the bridge did a fab Club Sandwich. Went to the Harbour Bar one afternoon for a snack. It was absolutely revolting. We ordered a burger and fries, and the burger was not cooked, barely warm in the middle, and they had even managed to make an ar*e of the fries - tasted like they'd been cooked in oil saved from the end of last season. And you pay BEFORE you get the food - how surprising!

Generally all the restarants seemed fine, nice and laid back etc, whilst the bars all seemed to be in a different resort - playing loud music, and trying to be so cool it made you wince. This was made even more amusing due to the fact that the resort was mainly full of 50+ and young families due to the time of year, and they were all empty. Drunken Sailor and Mistral were on opposite sides of the street, but were pretty much the same bar they were so similar, but imagine they would be good for a drunken night out when they were a bit busier. Couple of brit bars, which were fine. One club that wasn't open when we were there, the Sound Factory. Looked like a beige box from outside however.

Sidari - Quite big, probabaly good for a night out. We went to the highly recommended Roof Gardens, but weren't that impressed. Think it would have been better for Steaks etc, whilst we ordered Greek dishes. Nice view over the beach. Went to a couple of bars, which were generally better than the ones in Roda, but due to a power cut about 10pm that was the end of our night out in Sidari! Beware however that Sidari is a fair bit pricier than Roda for everything!

WEATHER/ TIME OF YEAR - We booked for the first week of the season, having travelled late in the season before, thinking it would be the same. It's not. The earliest I would go again would be the end of May. Everywhere was pretty deserted, which was generally odd. The weather was okay when it was sunny, but it clouded over on the Thursday morning, and we didn't see any sun again till about 3pm on the Saturday. During this time it was bloomin' baltic, and constantly wet. Lightning on Friday night meant no electric till late Saturday afternoon. Due to the fact this hol was so cheap, we can't really complain about the weather, but without the sun, we were bored stiff - nothing to do except sit in the bar or in the room. Go in September - much warmer!

SUNSET/ THOMAS COOK - Excellent service, fab rep called Sam, and generally run very well. Been on two Thomson Holidays hols before, and Thomson Holidays seem like a bunch of fools compared to Thomas Cook. Even the plane food was good!

PRICES - We spent about £550 and that was eating out every night, and some lunchtime/ breakfasts. Greek main course about 6 euros, and 1 litre of greek wine the same. 1 Litre of Mythos (local lager - very good) between 2.2 euros and 3 euros. All cheaper than Britain, but not dirt cheap. Could have done this with a lot less spending money if we wanted to however.

TRIPS - A few places you can book with along the front, much cheaper than with the rep as usual. If you go to Corfu town, remember that if you want to have a good look around, you'll probably need the whole day, not just a couple of hours.

SUMMARY - Blue Gardens good, Corfu might as well be in Spain. If you're looking for a lovely atmospheric greek village, go to Lindos in Rhodes - not here!

My/Our Holiday Review:

We booked the holiday three weeks prior to going, just to get a late break. When we arrived, we were very tired and hungrey. The bar was open by the pool so we got a drink and a snack and then went to unpack our cases. We were greeted by Elena soon after, she seemed nice. The room was ok however very basic and the self catering facilities were a joke, We had a mini oven the size of a microwave with an electric ring on top, not big enough to prepare a meal, There were a list of rules on the wall in the kitchen which we found rather an insult. Along side the rules was a list of extra charges other than the usual fee for the saftey deposit box. On a posative note, the pool area was spotless and the water 3was caerfully maintained by andreas.

We never had our bedding changed the entire week and we only got two very small hand towels left for us.

Roda beach was gorgeous, very clean and great for kids/ Eating out was an experience, dont bother going to the tex mex restarant unless you have to much money with you and if you like small portions, i would recommend Roda Park for good grub and DEFINATLEY go to maggies place. WOW. what a breakfast. The streets of Roda are filthy, Rubbish strewn every where. not very clean at all.

We will not be visiting greece again. we were dissapointed on the whole and will stick to spain and tenerife.

My/Our Holiday Review:

This Hotel is described by Cosmos as a family run hotel situated on a pebbly beach, perfect for basking in the sun. The truth is that there is no "beach", it is in fact large jagged rocks covered in mounds of seaweed, and most unattractive, you most certainly cannot sit on it.

After 17 years of visiting the Greek Islands, we have never experienced a hotel so inhospitable. The owner and the majority of the staff are rude and ignorant. If you have children, stay away, if they want to play in the pool, they will be told to be quiet!Never before have we met Greek people that dont welcome children, but they certainly arent welcome here. Our two weeks holiday was spent leaving early and arriving back late, just to avoid the unpleasant atmosphere. We werent the only unhappy people, there were arguments every day and we have returned home devasted that our two weeks of long awaited holiday was a nightmare.

The resort itself was the worst we have ever experienced, too many of the tourist tat shops, no real tavernas, and absolutely no Greek feel at all.The only good thing was Maggies fish diner, very warm welcome, lovely people, and magnificent food all day long, by the way Maggie is English! If you are thinking of going to the Coral Hotel, we wouldnt recommend it, but if have already booked we wish you luck.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Hotel Coral 12 to 26 sept from Manchester.

We had an excellent time and a special thanks to all the staff who made us feel welcome from the moment we stepped inside the hotel. Niko , Dimitris and the rest of the crew made us feel special during our stay and soon had us all on first name terms. nothing was too much trouble for them. They are all football and rugby supporters. The greek night in the hotel restaurant was very enjoyable and a good way to meet others. Also the a focal point for guest before and on their return during the evenings was the bar area.

The hotel was fine typical greek 3 star. Situated in a quiet end of roda only a few metres from the pebble beach.

Everything was spotlessly clean including the pool and all eating areas. The rooms were visited every day by the maids except suns. There was never any problem with sunbeds. All the rooms were air conditioned at a cost of 4 Euros a day if required. This would probably be essential in july august. The safe deposit boxes were very reasonable and being next to the 24hr reception made them even safer

The weather at this time of the year is just right but can be changeable.

Roda itself was just right size you can walk round it all in 30 mins.

Nikos bar next door is friendly and all speak english and organise boat hire or fishing trips the fishing banter is great they even knew my nickname of Colin dry net.

A visit to the Elizabeth bar is reccomended which is at the back of the Coral, the kookabara bar there has things organised there most evenings.

Food wise we never had any bad meal more the opposite. Reccomend the Lamb at the Avra on its own just opposite pirates family owned and run order it 24 hrs before. Breakfast we visited Pirates bar many days for the different breakfast they do from the small to gigantic friendly staff and excellent food only served during day. Good bar also in the evenings. Bernies place just off the front is also popular and made us very welcome and serves a variety of Greek and english food. If you like english food try Maggies just up from Bernies try the fish dinner highly reccommended all meals were well prepared and served. I asn keen on the bar side of maggies it seemed a bit dismal and typal british service Ill leave it at that. The other restaurants we visited were The italin near the traffic lights on the main road. Dalmas I think its called just before the italian on opposite side. The mexican restauran on the same street must try the ribs. The fish restaurant on the corner on the front you cant miss it the red snapper was good.

2 indian restaurants in Sidari.

Try not to be in a rush when eating it will be a better experience as many places prepare and cook it fresh. There are many more to try (were back next year)

A 2 min walk will bring you to the cenre of rhoda where all the Restaurants and bars are. The main areas consist af a sea front with 2 roads coming off it at an angle to form a triangle. On the front here is the main sandy beach. Sidari is a 12euro ride away a lot more busy . Walk up to arakave and beyond will bring you to long narrow quiet sandy beaches, for whicht transport will be required for the further away as they are a few miles.

The surprising thing about Rhoda was we were the only ones we spoke to who had not been there before many times. One couple for 26 years. Once you go youll see why.

Have a good time.

My/Our Holiday Review:

This was our fist trip to Corfu and we booked it as a late deal, not sure of what to expect. We were pleaseantly surprised with how prompt the service was once we arrived in Corfu, from getting our baggage to transfering to the apartments.

We found the apartments to be simple but clean although we only had one towel change all week. The showers were powerful, but with no curtain the bathroom became like a wet room. The apartments are located off one of the side roads and of a night time there was no street lighting, so you were stumbling around looking for the way home, my wife almost breaking her ankle. It had a little kitchen, but it should have been described as room only rather as oppposed to self-catering. There was only one cooking ring and for a famil of four that was not practical, however, eating out is cheap and we had no need for the kitchen.

Eating out at Maggie's was a dream, massive portions, gorgeous food, good service and cheap as chips. Definitely not to be missed. We also ate at the Roda Park and the service was fantastic along with the food. Both these resturants are located off the main road, down a side road, but relevantl easy to find as the shopping area is almost the shape of a triangle.

There are plenty of bars in Roda, we preferred to stay in the Greek Taverna style bars as on a couple of occasions we visited the busier bars like the Drunken Sailor they were trying to give shots of Tequila to my 17 and 15 year old daughters, when I informed them of their ages they were not detered.

There was one other bar called the Mistral which was OK, but none of these bars seemed to be very busy - maybe this was because of the time of year we travelled and possibly a reason they were trying to throw drinks at under-age girls.

Shopping is OK for the usually souveniers, but my wife and daughters found Acharavi to have some more exquiste gifts other than your usual fridge magnets and fake handbags. The beachfront shops have the usual dingeys and lilos buckets and spades etc, but there is one picture shop which had some really lovely Greek scenes and houses on, we bought some home to frame.

The beach itself is long and thin but pleasant enough to spend your time, the people who rent the sunbeds are really friendly and chatty, and there are a couple of bars that back on to th beach so you can have lunch etc.

All in all we would recommed Roda as a holiday destination, we had a good time and the weather was nice. This will probably be our last holiday as a family as the girls will be going away with their friends - but put it this way I would not be happy for them to return here alone.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Hi, we have just visited Roda for our second time. Nothing much had changed, it was still peaceful and quiet as we both remembered it. The Elenitsa Studios were "basic" like any Greek self catering accommodation. They were not as clean as some we have visited in Europe but ok non the less.

Laura our rep was extremely nice, I cannot say a word bad about her apart from there were six couples leaving the studios on the same day that had to wait from Midday to midnight and after to be picked up, there was one room and she gave it to one couple and didn't allocate the room for 1 hour per couple which would have been better. Apart from that she did what she could for everybody under very trying circumstances at times.

The Harbour front bar right on the beach is a nice quiet place to go, but the people who run it are not quite so friendly. They do not want you to stay there after midnight, even though it says they serve until 1am. If it is late, they will not give out pool tokens just before midnight, so I would avoid going in there.

The Chinese Garden Restaurant is an excellent place to eat. Daniela, Vasilis and Nicos made you feel at home and very welcome. The food was tasty and served very well. You also get chopsticks (should you want to use them) with a knife and fork.

If you want a great supermarket and you do not mind walking, go along the road on the beach to Acharavi. Walk as far as you can to where you have to get on the beach where the road ends, turn right and up the top of the road, turn left and there is a supermarket. You cannot go wrong.

If you want a beach where you are alone for most of the time (apart from the odd person passing through), go down to the front and turn left. You come to a bridge, go over it and past the horses. Walk through the horse field towards the sea and you get to the german beach (everybody was German), walk as far as you can go until you get to a cliff round a headland. Nobody hardly goes there and the water is not that deep. It isn't perfect if you want to lie out in the sun, but it is perfect for splashing about and is not very deep.

If you end up going to Albania, do not go with your holiday company. Go with HN Travel, they will save you £22.00. Make sure you do not get picked up by the wrong coach as we were, then we were left stranded in Corfu Town and had to walk three miles to the local Olympic Office. Having said that, they immediately got us a taxi back to Roda so all was well plus we had a very nice ride back through the mountains.

If you use Travelex for your foreign currency and you have a night flight, it says on the website or did, if you order the currency for collection that the Manchester Branch closes at 23.00 hrs, it does or did not, it closed at 22.00 hrs. I would recommend Travelex for your currency, you order over the Internet before you go, there are no charges or you can pay a small fee and they buy the currency back at the same rate they sold it to you.

If you want a nice holiday with hardly any children, Roda is the place to go.

Happy Holidays until the next holiday in Singapore and Hong Kong.

By Greek standards the rooms at the Elenitsa are very good, with a high standard of cleanliness. If you get room 1A then you will have problems. Here, the terrace is the main walkway into the first of the two apartment blocks which means you get little peace and quite. Add to the fact that this room (and room 9) back onto the back of the supermarket, where the coolers, freezers and such run 24 hours a day, and the vacuum tanker parks outside your window once a week at 6am to empty the septic tank and your peaceful holiday will be ruined.

Fortunately the rep was very helpful and moved us at the first chance to room 8A at the opposite side. The patio was small but you didn't get the noise of the supermarket or the tanker ! Make sure you ask for a balcony.

There are enough Tavernas to visit a different one each day if you were there for three weeks and with the exception of Mary's ( just above the Aphradite, where the service is poor and the food little better) all are excellent. Our favourite was Bootleggers, friendly service and excellent food.

The cheapist beer was E1.60 at the Harbour Bar on the beach, who also do the cheapest sun loungers and umbrellars. Best breakfast was at the New Port.

Diet for two days if you think you can eat the large fish and chips at Maggies and the Sunday dinner here comes with fresh veg and with a sweet which means you will need to hire a crane to get you out, you get that much.

Shop around for car hire and remember to ask about the excess. We ended up with a Matiz with air con for E60 for three days and with full insurance and no excess. Take the car up into the mountains, the views are breathtaking. We shopped around for the tours and they are far cheaper than the reps, despite being exactly the same.

Don't expect too much from Albania, except a stamp in your passport as where they take you (complete with the local security 'officer')is what they want you to see. True the ancient city is spectacular (and we have been to Ephesus), but you might as well be in Greece and the optional trip isn't optional, you should budget for another E27.5 per person including the port tax because otherwise you will have nothing to do for 6 hours except drink in the bar at the harbour.

Buses are cheap and reliable, everbody is friendly and I would return to Roda tomorrow, it is quite, but with enough to do. The only downside is that the mosquitoes are some of the most vicious we have come across, even those in the forests of Thiland were pleasant by comparison. Everybody realalises this so go well equiped.

My/Our Holiday Review:

If you're looking for an 18-30s clubbing holiday, dont choose Roda. If you're looking for a laid back, chilled out resort with a choice of bars and restaurants then it might be the one for you.

Elinista Apts - these apartments are less than 5 mins walk from the beach, set back from the old road so are reasonably quiet at night. If you dont go expecting 5 star, then you wont be disappointed. We paid £200 for the fortnight and were pleasantly surprised by the location and standard of these apartments. Ours was a simple one roomed studio with kitchen area - fridge, oven and hob (although the selection of cooking implements left a little to be desired), with a small balcony.

Beach - the beach is quite narrow and a combo of sand and shingle. The sea is clear and shallow - you can walk out for ages and its still only at your knees. There are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas for hire - 9euros for 2 beds and an umbrella.

Resort - Roda is quite a small resort but has a wide variety of bars and restaurants. We tried a different restaurant almost every night. Our favourite was Bootleggers - great service, great food and great prices - we spent 22 euros between us and got 2 courses and 1 litre wine. New Port (on the beach next to filoxena) was our least favourite - the owner hassled everyone who walked past to come in, we unfortunately were persuaded by this, however once in there the food was less than tantalising and the service was poor - it felt as though we were being rushed to finish our meals and leave. After this experience we were surprised by the popularity of this restaurant as it seemed to be busy every night.

There are a wide variety of bars - many of which show new films everynight - we say spiderman2 and shrek2 neither of which had been released in the UK at the time. The bars in this resort although not really catering for the serious clubber do have a lot to offer and are open until the early hours (or the last drinker leaves). Crusoes (on the beach) has great cocktails for 3 euros and quizes nearly every night. British Bulldog has a variety of entertainment - we saw a great drag queen act whilst we were there.

Misc - We went to the obligatory intro meeting with our rep who tried to sell us a variety of trips and car hire. However before signing up for any of these make sure you check out the travel offices in the resort who we found to be much cheaper (Nostro travel on the beach provided us with car hire at half the price of that recommended by the rep).

We were disappointed with our rep - she seemed pleasant and friendly enough to our faces, however on two occasions we made requests regarding our accomodation which she went away and did nothing about. She also failed to let anyone know the details for our last day/pick up so we had to waste time finding these out ourselves.

We would definately recommend hiring a car, if only for a few days. Paleokastritsa is a must - the scenery is beautiful and the beaches glorious. The sea is absolutely freezing, but so clear it makes up for it. We also went to Glyfada which is another gorgeous beach - mountains come right down to the beach which is sandy and the sea is clean and beautifully clear - we found fish swimming around our ankles. We also drove to Corfu town - which wasnt as nightmare a drive as we initially thought. The easiest parking is at the old port and cost 1.50 euro for the whole day.

On our last day we were due to leave the apartments at 12noon but paid 15euros to keep the apartments until 6pm - the flight was only at 5am which was a bit of a pain.

Although other reviewers have complained about mosquitoes, we didnt have any problems at all - use a repellant spray in the evenings on legs and arms before you go out, and leave a plug in repellant switched on in your rooms before you go out to eat and leave on over night. Also if using a repellant, you should leave the windows open but close the curtains or shutters, otherwise any mosquitoes in your room have no way to escape (the plug in mossie things only repel mossies, they dont kill them). Also be warned about the ants - there are some really tiny ones, but once one is attracted to something you end up with a swarm of millions. And also the giant wasps - which make you feel you're in land of the giants - fortunately there didnt seem to be too many of these and they were more interested in the flowers than in us!

All in all a good choice of resort if you want a nice relaxing holiday, with the opportunity to be more active if you wish.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We arrived on the 28th May to a reasonable day. However the following day we had thunderstorms and it was the wettest week the island had had for a long time.

During the one week we were there, we had two days of continual rain. We resorted to sitting in Sonnys - a friendly bar run by an english couple. They recommended Drosios for eating and after we eat there, we did not go anywhere else. They do a fantastic home made mousakka, an enourmous plate of lamb chops and an excellent chicken slouvaki (kebab).

Despite the weather we did manage a trip to Corfu Town which we enjoyed and a boat trip down the East Coast.

I would not go back to Corfu, mainly because there are too many islands to see. However it is our least favourite. Santorini and Skiathos are definitely worth a visit.

Perhaps had we had better weather we would have seen it in a better light!

My/Our Holiday Review:

The Elinitsa apartments are typical of the accommodation available in Roda.

They are clean tidy and no frills, consisting of shower room and toilet, kitchenette and bedroom (with two single beds)that leads out onto a veranda. The room also consists of minimal storage units plus a built in wardrobe. The walls of the room we stayed in were freshly painted however the white glossed doors and wardrobe were starting to yellow with age. Bedding and towels were changed at the end of the first week and the rooms were cleaned at least three times a week.

The shower in our room (3b on the ground floor of the newer building) was powerful but not always hot especially in the early evening, not that that is a huge problem in the 100 degree heat of August!

The location of the building is almost perfect. You are out of the way and yet in the heart of Roda itself. It is situated only yards away from a mini market the local shops and some of the restaurants, but does not pick up any of the noise or pedestrian traffic. The sea front takes less than two minutes to walk to as does the nearest pool bar. We were very unlucky to get a noisy young couple next door who found it impossible to talk at less than 100 decibels and enjoyed clubbing until 0400 every day. They fortunately left after a week and were replaced by a 'normal' couple.

We have holidayed in Roda before and enjoy the area very much. The food is generally good and most of the people are friendly the sea is also shallow calm and warm. We did notice this year that prices are getting higher and higher though. Even local beer is 2 euros for half a pint now and a can of coke is 1.50 euros.

The biggest price hike though was in the prices of hiring sun beds and umbrellas on the beach. A good third of the beach (the less pebbly area) now has people charging 9 euros for two beds and an umbrella. What makes it worse is that they now refuse to let you hire just an umbrella for 3 euros; you have to hire the lot now!

When it comes to food little has changed the Newport and the Odysseus still in my opinion are the best two overall restaurants, with the largest menus and the overall best cooking. Drosia is the best steak house and also does the best English breakfast. Most of the restaurants are generally OK and you will be unlucky to get a bad meal. The only poor quality meals my partner and I had over two weeks were the chicken curry at the Chinese garden that was so bad I had to send it back (the lemon chicken we had the previous week was perfect though) The English breakfast at the Mistral bar was so undercooked it was virtually inedible and the surprise bad meal was at Maggie's the English breakfast we had there consisted of a pot of tea that was not hot enough to brew properly and an English breakfast that consisted of reheated sausages and undercooked fried potato slices. They still make the best fish and chips on the planet though (prices have gone up mind you). For the most part though we stuck to Greek food though and were rarely let down by doing so.

Apart from the Mosquito's who seemed to take a real liking to me for the first time ever, inspite me using gallons of anti Mosquito lotion, the only blight on our holiday was from Olympic holidays themselves. Our holiday flight time was postponed a few hours about a month before we were due to fly out and then postponed again when we got to the airport. We should have originally been arriving at our apartment at about 9.30pm to 10.00pm in the evening as it was we arrived at about 4 am our rep Laura then explained to us that she would not expect us to make the 10.30 am meeting the following morning and she would 'catch up with us' later in the day to explain the details of the holiday to us. I next saw Laura when I bumped into her 10 days later .Laura then failed to turn up at the next scheduled meeting we had with her.

At the end of our holiday we had the misfortune to be 'looked after' be a different rep who is without doubt the worst holiday rep in history. Our departure started off badly as we had to trundle our luggage quite a distance from our apartment to wait for the coach that then came to pick us up over 20 minutes later than scheduled. Two hours later after making numerous pick ups throughout the island we arrived at Corfu airport. At this point our rep abandoned us. The some total of her help in getting us off the island was to say get to the end of the queue outside the building. Two hours later we were still outside the building with 10 minutes left before our plane was due to take off! If it had not been for the Libra rep looking after the group behind us and the Cosmos rep looking after the group in front of us we would still probably be outside the airport now. Both girls were brilliant. The Libra girl kept us informed of why the queue was operating as it was and told us how we could sneak into the toilets and the Cosmos girl arranged for all of us to be rushed through when our flight became imminent. We later found our rep inside the airport she blithely walked past us all laughing and joking with another Olympic rep ignoring us all completely. I very much doubt that Olympic holidays will ever earn another penny from me.

Arrived at 4am and was met by Costas. He was cheerful, polite and couldn't have been more welcoming (even at that crazy hour). The room was extremely clean and although it was basic self catering, you didn't need anything else for your stay. Only drawback was the air conditioning wasn't operating on that first "night" due to such a late arrival time but that was rectified in the morning when I paid the local charge for it.

The staff were superb, they made you feel comfortable and extremely welcome and you would be very hard pushed to find better service elsewhere. All the food we ate at the pool bar was lovely and there was a pretty good variety to choose from. The cost of the food and the drink was very reasonable too.

The pool was fantastic and although it was open for non-residents to use too, it was never too crowded and there were always sunbeds available.

The distance from the apartment to the main resort centre of Roda was within an easy walk and when we visited the "town" it was never riotous although quite busy.

This was the first time I'd been abroad on my own without another adult with me and I took my 13 year old daughter. We had a fantastic time. The First Choice rep called Alex was brilliant and she visited the apartments regularly.

I'd definately recommend the apartments to anyone looking for a relaxing family orientated holiday and I'd be more than happy to return in the future.

We arrived in middle of night with our 2 grand children - had booked 3 star apartment on arrival for 2 adults and 2 children - were given 2 studios (no. 3 and no. 20 - not even near each other) - we complained to the owners immediatley but were told to see rep next day - we all stayed 1 night in 1 of these tiny studios - I fail to understand why they had been rated 3 star as they were disgusting, were told by rep next day that they could not offer us anything else - first choice rep not in any way concerned or bothered and more or less told us to 'like it or lump it' - some start to what we thought would be a great treat for 2 small boys - considering the problems Corfu has had in recent times with small children we could not believe attitude of First Choice

We then had to find and pay our own accommodation for the week as we did not want to separate our 2 grandchildren - will never travel again with First Choice and would certainly advise others to be wary of booking 3 star accommodation (not sure what people's standards are like if they accept this as 3 star - shoe box size 3 x 4 including 2 beds, toilet and kitchen areas - would not even rate it as 1 star and surely these apartments should be vetted by some authority to ensure people are getting what they paid for) - what we paid for this holiday was quite expensive to start off with (£1200 for 1 week 2 ad & 2 ch self catering) and we feel we were very let down by First Choice - we did find other lovely apartments in Roda and eventually had a good holiday - but who wants this hassle for 1 week holiday)

We had a great time at Elizabeth Apartments. My husband and 17 and 18 daughter. Apartments 5 mins from beach and bars. So nice and quiet at night. Some noise from bar. Pool area quiet and loads of beds to go around. Altho there was another apartment block being opened by the owner and the people staying there would be using the same pool and bar.

Overall plenty of bars and restaurants by the beach. A pleasant 15 mins to next town Acharavi. But this was quite dark at night coming back.

would definitely go back but I never go back to same place twice.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Booked a last minute deal with First Choice travel shop.Corfu was'nt really our first choice but we gave it a whirl.

The Bad Bit

Got to the accommodation after a long, unexplained delay at the airport.Never found out why.Never experience that before, not even in tiny Skiathos! At 03.30 we got into our apartment and were greeted by the smell of damp.My son refused to use any of the blankets as they smelled so musty.Booked a 2 bed apt but ended up using 1 room on the first night because of the smell. My wife is asthmatic so you can imagine.

In the morning we found the apartment was'nt very clean with no bath mat (a notice told us NOT to use the towels on the floor). My son slipped twice in one shower time!Kithen cupboards smelled damp and were dusty.Windows covered in flies and cobwebs.A pillow had blood stains on it.People at the complex were'nt very helpful but offered to re wash our blankets but we later discovered the mattresses all smelt as well. The First Choice could'nt help us, either get another room in the complex, or anywhere else for that matter so we ended up at the Silver Beach in Roda which was lovely and a third of the price for half board!

Roda itself is a bit like a motorway service station.Lots of pubs offering "full english", football and cheap beer. Not what i want when i go to Greece!Sad really, because Corfu is so lovely.Scenery away from the resort is mountainous and much nicer than the beach area.

The locals we met though were great and there are some good restaurants very reasonably priced.Filoxenia and Odysseus were the ones that stood out. Went to Kassiopi one evening and had a lovely few drinks at a bar right on the harbour wall (at the end before you go up the hill).

Paleokastritsa is gorgeous but a bit commercialised.Had another lovely lunch at the last restaurant on the left (if you're standing on the beach).Went on a boat trip to Paxos and Parga which are both stunning but it's a long day, so be warned if you have little ones. Corfu Town was interesting with lovely old buildings and shops.Don't go one the Paradise beach BBQ, you're stranded there for 5 hours.Greasy chicken, stale roll and salad.Yuck.Beach full of plastic cups and cigarette ends.NO TOILETS either.Scary!

I would'nt go to Corfu again as we are more for history/culture than beaches but think we would have enjoyed it more if we'd stayed somewhere like Paleo or Kassiopi.Try it - but not Roda.

the elizabeth apartments are about 300mtrs from the beach and nearest shops and their setting is lovely, being off the beaten track, but still only 10mins walk to the centre of roda. the apartments are fairly basic, as is the norm in greece, but you will find you are only in them to sleep, as the complex is so nice. helen, dimitri, costa, and nickos are very nice, as are the meals they create! the pool is great, clean, big with a jacusi and kids area.

we had a lovely time there, 27degrees, and it was early october! it makes you realize what a cold, wet place england is!

This is the second year running we have visited the Elizabeth Studios and Apartments in Roda. Roda is very quiet and has lovely bars and places to eat. Our favourite for Greek Food was the NewPort on the sea front, but if you want a very large portion of English food try Maggies in one of the side roads ( we have never seen a mixed grill on such a large plate!!) Roda is ideal if you have small children and are not interested in club 18-30 and lots of nightclubs.

Our apartments were very basic (typical for Greece) but you dont spend much time in them anyway. The appartments are a family run business with Helen, Dimetri and Costa and they make you feel very at home and nothing is to much trouble for them. They are also helped by Nicos (who could charm birds from the trees!) He worked their 7 days a week and all the kids (and ladies) seemed to fall for him. They would organise Greek Nights and quiz nights and what amazed us was the number of people who we spoke to who visit these appartments each year and the number of people who said they would be back next year to see everyone again.

For a relaxing holiday I would recommend this resort and these appartments to anyone.

The resort of Roda isn't lively and isn't quiet. I'm 14 and i found it quite fun with many bars showing films that aren't even out over here yet, so what i usually did was either eat at the Kookaburra bar or go to Maggies and then go to either George and dragon or 5 roses to watch a great film. Trust me your kids will love it!

The accomodation is a little dated and i must admit a little tacky, the bathrooms arent ideal but thats how they live over there. The people on the otherhand are great ;Nikos the waiter keeps everyone on their toes; Costa the man behind the bar gives evryone a right laugh with his liottle outfits and dimitri and helen r just plain cool.

We have been going to Corfu for over 10 years now and these are one of the best apartments we have been to. Staff are very friendly apartments very clean as is the pool. The only down side is the karioki which goes on to the early hours of the morning (3am-4am) but people are out to enjoy themselves and the only reason it annoyed me was because I was suffering from sunstroke and couldn't get to sleep anyway.

The Resort.

Beaches are fine restaurants are great, but we don't go to Greece to eat English food.

It saddens me to notice that no-one ever mentions Mary's Taverna okay it's dingy and a lot of locals go there and it takes forever to get your meal but the food is really good (takes over an hour to get it) but we were never in a hurry to eat and Maria who runs the taverna is really nice, she even invited us over for Easter (No charter flights) needless to say we went it cost £1000 but it was well woth it. The whole family couldn't have made us more welcome, we stayed at their villa and have never enjoyed an Easter so much, the whole family were there and made us really welcome (they even taught my husband to speak greek but there again after going to Mary's taverna for all these years my husband can converse with the locals now.

All in all we both love Roda and look forward to going again year after year.

My/Our Holiday Review:

APARTMENT COMPLEX

The bedroom was clean, with ample storage and a nice hard bed (greek style). The airconditioning was extra and expensive so we hired a fan from the grocery shop in town for the two weeks.

The balcony was a good size with table and chairs, it also had a clothes horse for the wet swimming stuff.

The kitchen was small, had a fridge, two ring cooker, a cupboard with basic utensiles and a small area to prepare food...ideal for preparing picnics and breakfast...don't expect to do any serious cooking. plenty of room in the fridge for drinks and there is a small freezer shelf ideal for freezing up water for trips out

The complex was noisy at times and full of children.the pool is a good size but there are always planned events which are open to the public as well as residents...this is great if you have children who love to be entertained.

At the weekend there is organised entertainment..eg.karioki, small really bad singing groups and slapstick comedy group. Which goes on to early hours (3-4am) again if you enjoy this then its brilliant. Children love it here, the drinks can be quite expensive and they don't allow you to bring your own to the poolside, so many families popped back to their room for drinks and food and stayed by the pool the rest of the time.

RESORT

this is a quiet low grade resort. Most of the accommodation is probably a 2 star. This is the greece of the eighties...a few taverns..some good, some pretty poor. lots of bars, grocery shops and some souvenir shops. Everything is owned by locals who are happy and friendly people who love children.

The food prices in August were on a par with England, the drink prices were very expensive. Some bars show films on big screen which have just been released in England for free...well worth a price of a beer!!

AREA

The local beach is pebbly and has a shelving coastline. If you want somthing better then follow the coast in either direct for a few miles and its more remote. To the west 1.5km beyond the posh hotel is a sandy beach which locals use. It is sandy and the shelving coast means you can walk out for about 6 mins and the water is still only chest height. Brilliant for lazing around on a hot day...Do rememeber the hat though as we saw lots of sunburnt tourists limping around!!

Bikes are a good way to get around, there are back roads and dirt tracks to cycle down...lots of trees to shade you from the sun. and they can get you to better beaches and to the village up the hill from Roda where the local tavern does very cheap food and drink. Most of the village have some connection with UK, lots of intermarriage and some expat frequent the tavern.

Walking up the hill from the tavern brings you to an old lane that used to link to valleys, brilliant if you enjoy a quiet walk...we only made it to the olive groves and then had a nap in the shade. there!!

CORFU

The north is a wonderful place, there is plently to visit. hiring a car for a few days is good. The local hire places are safe (don't listen to those reps!!) obviously check out the condition of the car and what arrangements they have for break down etc.. common sense really.

Corfu Town is great to visit, I suggest getting there early (we parked for free in the old port)and doing the sights. Night time (again parking in the old prot was available and free)is worth doing. The food in town is expensive but the place has a regal feel and the quality of food is good.

SHOPPING

Fake designer leather belts, wallets and handbags are good buys. I don't usually go for these but they are good quality products in corfu. Prices seemed not to vary too much in the different locations.

Wooden olive products were expensive but very good quality.

Knitwear in corfu town was fairly expensive but good quality and handmade

The nougar was to die for so please don't miss out on this and its fairly cheap.

In all old corfu is still there but you need to get out and find it.

If you have children there lots to entertain them in Roda and there's a waterpark just up the road.

My/Our Holiday Review:

My Boyfriend and I have just returned after a two week holiday in Roda. At the time of booking our hoilday we were advised that Roda is a pretty fishing village with a beautiful bay. We were also advised that Sidari, the neighbouring town was within walking distance. When we arrived in Roda, the beach was not the paradise we had expected, and Sidari was a twenty minute taxi ride away.

The George Studios were very basic, and quite small. It didn't bother me as we only used the studio to sleep in, and it was comfortable enough. The room was quite cool at night, so there was no need for air conditioning. There is a small pool, and snack bar, but no one seemed to use it. We used the pool at the Theodoros Apartments, which were only a few yards down the road. The pool was brilliant, and very secluded. It was surrounded by trees and shrubs. The snack bar also provided a wide range of food and drinks. The pool did sometimes get quite busy, but there are more than enough sun beds.

The evenings do get quite cold, so I advise bring some warmer clothes. It is nice to cool down after the srong heat during the day. The restaurants in Roda are fantastic, but most serve all the same food. We tried most of the restaurants, but our favorite had to be the New Port Restaurant. You are warmly welcomed by The Captain, and all the dinner tables look onto the beach. Another restaurant to try is Bootleggers. Again you are welcomed, and the service is very good. Most of the bars in Roda are quite quiet. They do show all the latest films, and all sporting events on a big screen to keep everyone entertained.

I advise anyone going to Roda to also travel to Sidari for the day. It cost us 10 Euros to get there by taxi. The beach is a lot prettier than the beach in Roda, and the water is a lot clearer and warmer. It cost us about 7 Euros for 2 sun beds, and an umbrella. There is a bit more life in Sidari, and there are more bars and clubs.

We also went on a trip to Aqualand. We had a really good day, and people of all ages would enjoy it. Take a high sun factor as there are very few places in the shade.

I thoroughly enjoyed my holiday to Roda, but I don't think I would go back.

The streets need to be cleaned up, and the place needs to be brought up to date. Despite this the Greek people were lovely, and really made a difference to my holiday. They all have a fantastic sense of humour, and make you feel very welcome. The weather also was a plus.It was warm, but it was a comfortable heat. Corfu is a beautiful island, and has fantastic scenery. It is just a bit out of date, but that didn't stop us having a wonderful time.

My/Our Holiday Review:

we were a party of 6 50-60 year olds looking for everything the brochure promised i.e secluded quiet location, own pool and bar,not for the young and lively. the accommodation was basic which we fully expected having been to Greece before however cleaning standards were poor and we emptied our own bins and cleaned our bathrooms as after 3 days no services were provided.

The pool bar and pool itself were dirty and the staff could not understand English. It became very quickly apparent that infact the pool was not part of George studios but was called Valentinos and catered for the 3 dirty pink blocks full of Czech workers which were cleverly concealed on the brochure photograph.

The noise from traffic was constant as it was situated on the road to the beach. It was also a dropping off point for all the holiday makers staying beyond our studios as trip busses could not negotiate the roads. This meant that on airport change-over days our studio was full of traffic fumes which went on all through the night - so much for a get away from it all holiday.

On the plus side Roda itself is a lovely resort and we managed to find some lovely clean pool bars. One in particular was Banos Studios which had a lovely quiet pool and I believe could be booked through Airtours. We had some very enjoyable meals, everyone loved Maggies, the Newport, Tropicana pub at the crossroads and the Italian restaurant opposite the Tropicana. All in all we made the best of a bad job - im still catching up on sleep 2 weeks later.

We are going back next year only this time booking privately at Paradise village which really is beautiful. I do not know how Olympic can justify their description of this holiday.
