A last minute booking borught us to this wonderful place, you'll never wake up to a view from like that often! We stayed in the villa, a few steps down to the studios and then the sea!

The owner and his wife were lovely, a few personal touches make it feel like home. Paleo was quiet when we were there, lots of great tavernas, try Nereids for good food and a bit of greek dancing!

If you like big complexes and lots going on, don't go here. Love relaxing, being away from the crowds, then you'll love it!

Hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did, looking forward to our next visit already!

My/Our Holiday Review:

Don't be put off by the MANY steps to this beautifull place. The views from the patio are out of this world,a few steps down and you are in a crystal clear sea.Its idel for larger groups as you can share the patio, with chairs tables sun loungers, for a nice get together, the villa sleeps 5 the 3 bungalows sleep 2,this is the third time we have stayed at Aghia Triada, starting out as 2 this year the party was 8 using both villa and bungalows, making it private there is a gate at the top of the steps making the place all your own.Its very peacefull but within easy reach of everything less than 10 mins away,so you really do have it all. the accomodation is basic but clean and the owner and his wife will come and chat and fill you in on whats going on in resort or at home.

see the monastrey go early morning before it gets hot it opens at 8 so start walking at 7,if you go to Kefalonia for the day its a long trip 3hrs by hydrofoil there and 1hrs coach to the underground lake which is out of this world also the caves but wear decent shoes its very, very slippery, worth a look though,it would be better to go to Kefalonia for a holiday and do it that way.

Marias/Faros is a must Yianis and his wife Katerina and all their family are brilliant hosts, put on a really good barby night on a saturday you really have to go there.Stefanos boat trip is also a day out you should do.not on the day before you come home though its a bit tiring.Paleo has it all or if you want to be just quiet stay at the Aghia Triada and only venture to the shop for supplies and chill out,the view will calm you in no time.Moody Blues is good place if you like some music and a bit of company though its not over rowdy.

Hope whoever goes there enjoys it as much as we do dont expect the ritz, and you won't be dissapointed, but I bet you will never see another view to rival that one.

Enjoy.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We wanted a late summer deal at a reasonable price, where the weather stood a chance of being hot.We chose Corfu in the 3rd week of October, just before half term,as there was a substantial discount through Olympic Holidays for this hotel.

I had read the remarks from other visitors about the dated decor, and hoped that by our visit this may have been adressed.

Unfortunately that was not the case, but the cleanliness and freindly staff made up for the initial disappointment.

The rooms were adequate, and the view was the best we have ever had in all our holidays abroad. The food at breakfast was help yourself, and consisted of cereal, normally cornflakes and a muesli, toast, jams butter, yoghurt and oodles of honey, cake, different fruits, hard boiled eggs, tea/coffee,<though my wife was glad she brought her own tea bags> plus a cooked section of always sausage, bacon, fried egg.Restaurant overlooking the sea.

We went half board for addit £5per day when booking, though as it was near end of season we could have just paid 8 euros each per night if we wanted, but possibly in high season, safer to book in as half board.Dinner was plentiful and good choices, but there was always englishy food for those who were not adventurous.Wines about 8 euros a bottle, and they wuold return your half empty bottle to your table the next evening.

Pool was small, and very cold, and the advertised hairdressing salon and gift shop looked as though they had not been open since 1990.

Nice touches were letting us keep our room till early morning for free as we had anight flight, and also letting us have evening meal there that night at no extra charge as we arrived early morning at beginning of our holiday, and they said we missed that nights meal<most other hotels would probably charge for that last meal as you technically check out at 12am on the day of departure.

Dont forget mosquito plug ins,as there are a few about.

Paleo is a scenic place, very quiet, not a lot for children out of the hotel complexes, and there are not many hotels anyway.

Would not go back to hotel, but could reccommend it for a quiet relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting, but just take the rooms for what they are as it is a Greek Island.

Location = 4 stars, hotel in general = 3 stars, bedrooms = 2 stars. Despite having read the reviews on this site and knowing that the hotel's decor was 1970's ish - the condition of the beds and bathroom was below average. View from room over the bay was amazing though and made it bearable. The pool area had great views too (get there early to avoid the broken sunbeds) and a nice & good value snack bar.

Recommended restaurants would be Nereids (best Greek show), Limani (seafood), Anatma, Spiros (good value but tacky Greek show).

We hired a jeep for 3 days (through Olympic in UK)during our 2 week stay (went to Glyfada, Mount Pantokrator, ate at the well reviewed Agni Taverna, Doukades, Kanoni, Lakones, Benitses). Day trip to Corfu Town was excellent too.

Would definetly go back to Corfu and probably Paleo as it's a very relaxed, beautiful & and not overly tourist resort - but unlikely to return to Akrotiri unless completely refurbished.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Our first visit to Greece or Greek Islands so it is difficult to know what standard to expect from a Greek 4 star rating.I have therefore rated it as average but a 4 star rating should be in the very good catergory.

Akrotiri Beach Hotel (ABH)is rated as 4 star but the facilities, decor and food are nowhere near a 4 star rating. The location of the hotel is very good since Paleo is one of the better resorts and most of the views from upper rooms are fabulous until you turn around and look in the room.

Dont expect sandy beaches in walking distance the beaches are small stony affairs very crowded although the water quality is quite good.Bathing from the hotels own Rocky Beach as they call it is a health and safety nightmare and not to EU or any other standard and should be closed.

The pool water is clean but small and poorly supplied with broken sunbeds and parisoles Scenery and views are excellent. The hotel is run down and 1970's decor is very shabby in places.Beds are as hard as rock bathrooms in bad need of refurb. Our lamps were covered in squashed mosquitos that can be a problem so take repellent and sprays. Some staff were dismissive and rude, we had to work on them to get a response not the other way around. The hotel could do with a complete refurb and a staff reselection process. The location must be one of the best in Corfu but some of the other places just looked like Southend on the Med.A very good taverna is Nerids down the hill from the ABH, very clean, excellent food, good choice, charming staff, good entertainment, family taverna so some people in Corfu can get it absolutely right, weel done Nerids.

Wouldnt go back to Corfu again though.

This hotel located on the end of a Peninsula offers some wonderful views. Meals are waiter service, and whilst the choice is a little limited, it is very good and there is plenty of it, 2 starters main course and dessert with wine about 8 euro's a bottle. At this time of year entertainment was a little thin on the ground although those we saw worked hard. You might need to watch the barman who seems more concerned with the amount of ice in the glass as oppossed to the volume of alcohol.

The resort stretches over 5 hills and is about 2 miles long, be careful walking at nigh. There is a good selection of bars and restaurants and something can be found for all. This is NOT a good place to go if you have difficulty walking.

Would we go again. A definite Yes

My/Our Holiday Review:

We had a lovely holiday in Paleo.

The Acrotiri Beach Hotel is in need of a style makeover but it is clean, the staff are friendly and the location is wonderful. We will remember the views for ever. The pool area was very good. The steps down to the beach can be a bit tiring but worth it for the clear sea. Worth noting that the beach is a pebble one and very hard on the feet!

The entire resort is very hilly, which makes for some great views but would not really be suitable for small children or the elderly. It doesn't have a centre, just strings out along the windy road - a different view around every corner.

We only ate breakfast in the hotel and the odd snack by the pool. There are plenty of bars and tavernas near by. We liked Nerieds, Posideon (on the beach), Nausica and most of the others! One of our best meals was in a little village near by called Doukades. We watched the villagers spend the evening in the square while we ate.

We found the whole resort very quiet with not a lot happening in the evenings, but we were fine with that. The hotel has entertainment in the bar most evenings, but it is very low key - usually just music or some Greek dancing.

We hired a jeep and saw most of the island. Paleo was by far the best area we saw. We also liked Corfu town. If you like waterparks Aqualand is great - better than Wet n Wild in Orlando! Another good day out was the glass bottomed boat trip/beach barbeque. We booked ours at the bike hire shop opposite the hotel.

All in all a very good holiday.

My/Our Holiday Review:

wanted to add our opinion of anemona as there is only one other on this site.Described as basic & small in the brochure-this undersells these studios.I've had much smaller & had more basic in greece,so don't let that put you off. These studios are a little gem.Spotleslly clean, large towels,3 toilet rolls in one week!!! AND a shower curtain around the shower basin. There was always plenty of hot water, and the shower head hung on the wall. All sounds petty but those of you who have holidayed regularly to greece will i am sure understand!!

The room & bins were cleaned & emptied regularly-there was no chasing of the maid to ask for this to be done.

For some no safety deposit boxes & no air con may be a down side but not to us.

If you like sun on your balcony on an evening ask for one of the five rooms 206-210.

These rooms do face the road, but i have to disagree that its noisy & lacks privacy. We hate excess noise & for us it was fine,I don't think the road is that busy, again i've seen worse. The shop downstairs does get a lot of people back & forth, however we enjoyed watching the world go by as the sun went down.

This was our third time to paleo & we always return to the "top end" of the resort-its a "mini paleo" almost in its own right.

If you've not been to corfu before, don't worry about booking studios without a pool.In paleo you can use any pool you want, they're all open to the public.

Restaurants-Oasis & spiros are great,lovely food,not expensive,friendly-all boxes ticked.

The Phivos studios have a great pool snack bar, very reasonable too.

If you want a lovely quiet & peaceful holiday to fully recharge your batteries,Paleo is the place.

If you want 18-30 (which we don't!!!) then it isn't!!!!-the choice is yours

These apartments are basic but cleaned regularly, but be warned it is on a main road. So on the days when lots of people are arriving or departing it can get quite noisy. You do get used to it but as the balconies are also looking out on the main road and the busy shop downstairs, you don't get much privacy.

Paleo is beatiful, lovely food (especially the Oasis) not very busy and the people you meet are always friendly. The thing we found most puzzling is why no one seemed to use the bars. The restaurants were always really busy but only a few of the bars would have more than 6 people in!

We will definitely go back but not to these apartments. Instead we will go to Phivos Studios just down the road, where you can use the pool, there's a bar, football on TV, a pool table and best of all the grumpy bar man.

Our first visit to Paleo and The Aphroditi Studios - well what can I say - Magda, Stathis, Elizabeth and Anthony who are the owners are the most nicest, loving and warm people you will ever meet!! - They look after you, keep the studios absolutely spotless and really do become your friends - we only stayed there a week and for the first time when I left for the airport home I had a tear in my eye!!!!

The studios are spotless and are very comfortable. Towels were changed 2-3 times during our week stay and the room was cleaned twice also - so as you can imagine everything is immaculate. It doesn't stop there - the gardens and plants surrounding the apartments are gorgeous - we were surrounded by roses! Elizabeth who is one of the owners is a lovely lady - she lives on the end apartment down stairs and has two pet tortoises which wonder around the grounds!!

(they are two males but think they are boy and girlfiend so you can imagine what they get up to!!).

The pool and bar area are immaculate too. Magda and Elizabeth do gorgeous breakfasts and snacks so the pool bar is well worth a visit. Try a glass of the local wine - it is only 1 euro and gorgeous!!

As for eating out - we visited The Oasis on the first night which served lovely food and for the rest of our stay we ate opposite at Miltidias Corner - absolutely excellent food!!!! It is run my a Miltidias and his wife and they serve a special dish each day - A three course meal for 2, including wine cost around 30 Euros - not bad (around £22.00).

You can get around Paleo by foot - which is what we did but I would highly recommend you hire a car and visit the lovely Monastry in Paleo, the local wine sellers and bakery in Lakones and some of the gorgeous surrounding beaches. Also don't forget to visit Corfu Old Town - it's like being in Venice!

We were also highly impressed with Olympic's Rep, Darren - he was great and extremely helpful - just wish all reps were like hime!

All I can say to you is definately go and stay at these apartments - but be prepared to shed a tear on your way home!!! - As soon as we have saved up our pennies we are going back!!!!

We stayed a week at these apartments. We enjoyed Paleocastritsa (beautiful views) friendly people and lovely food. But found our apartment not as clean as it could be especially the shower and the beds.Judging by other reviews we are not sure whether we were in the "not so nice apartments." (Right hand side block underneath). Also the roads were dangerous in some places due to lack of pavements which could be quite scary in the nights.

Overall though we enjoyed Paleo and would recommend it especially if you like to just chill out and get away from it all.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Not long got back from our holiday here and have to say that this is one of the most pictureque resors e have ben to. it is set around about six differing crystal clear bays with the hills providing you with a different view around each corner. The nearest beach is about twenty mins walk, next to the akrotiri beach hotel. The water is crystal clear and gets deep very quickly and is great for snorkelling, although not so good for kids. There is a nice monastry to visit, a habour (from where you can take a boat trip round the coast for just three euros). And make sure you capture the beauty of the resort from the breathtaking view from the 'bella vista' (about an hours walk up from the hotel).

We ate at a different place every night and didnt hae one bad meal, although we recomend Spiros's just down the road for value (three courses for price of one) and 'Antama' overlooking the habour for its setting. There are also some good value resturants if you turn right out of the hotel. Night-life in paleo is quite low key, altough there are lots of nice and relaxed cafe bars, many of which take advantage of the great views. La Grotto (mind the steps) and cafe Tango are espeically pretty.

As for the apartments i would say they are basic but comfortable.

The rooms are clean and the balconys have a nice view, but they bathrooms need an update and the shower left a little to be desired. Only one toliet roll for two weeks too. The pool area is pretty but next to the main road so it feels a bit exposed. The bar area is nice, but dont decide to do what we did and try every cocktail, not pretty. The owners are really nice, esp Elizibeth but as for the rep she didnt invite us to welcome meeting and then said she did. She advertised a quiz then never turned up and i dont think i saw her smile. also at te airport we were dumped in te wrong queue by olympic, and when we tried to seek help of olympic reps we were ignored. luckily a rep from another company was helpful else we may stil be there.

Overall a great holiday that i would recommend although not with olympic

The Aphrodite appartments are very clean and well kept in general the maid service is good but be warned the towells are tiney...however the service there is amazing Magda and Elizabeth are angels who really know how to look after people.

The bar is lovely with good amount of choice and the local wine and beer are fabulous.

The views are amazing the beaches are clean but pebble/shale but you can get plenty of water taxis to secluded beaches that have sand. It's a 20 minute walk to the nearest beach or you can get the bus which stops opposite the main supermarket in paleo, which is a few Euros and only 1.80 Euros to go into Corfu town but the buses stop running around 9pm so then you need a taxi for the return but its only about 25 euros for a half hour journey.

I didn't eat in anything but good restaurants in Paleo and I highly recommend the Oasis Taverna up the hill near the Aphrodite Apartments, there food gets 10 out of 10 and I am not one for giving praise where its no due.

I will be going back to paleo and will stop again at the Aphrodite Apartments as their hospitality is something that money cant buy

A lovely welcoming place. You will not be disappointed. We booked without even seeing the apartments and relied solely on what was said here! Rooms nice and airy but was told that they are being updated for next year (air conditioning etc). The pool/bar extremely clean. Hosts very welcoming. The Olympic Rep (Lianne) was brilliant, she worked her socks off for all of those staying and I hope she reads this - 10/10. As for Paleo, I would definately stay again, lovely walks, restaurants, harbour. Close to Waterpark (brilliant), Corfu for shopping and boat trips. What more can you ask for.

A perfect holiday for young and old I completely recommend it. If anyone reads this from when we were out there - When's the reunion :)

Aphrodite Apartments are Fantastic! They are very clean, well appointed and the pool area is superb.

We spent two weeks there and found the owners and staff (six in total) to be great hosts and lovely people.

Magda, Elizabeth, Stathis and Antony were all great especially to our son.

Pools were very clean as were the pool toilets/ showers.

Bar offered cheap and cheerful food and the slush drinks went down a storm.

Resort is very picturesque especially from the hills around it.

Beach in Paleo arent great but we had a car for two weeks and I would advise you to have one both for practical stuff and exploring.

Glyfada and St Georges Beaches were gorgeous and not too far away (but get directions it is well sign posted)

So thats it...great time, great people and fab weather..except for 3 days when a huge rain storm hit....

Not our best holiday. It started off badly we had to wait for over 2 hrs after arriving at the airport. The rep said there was a problem with the baggage carousel, but we were just waiting for a later flight. The Gatwick flight arrived 2 and a half hours after the Bristol flight. We then had to change rooms on second day. There was also a 16 hr delay on the flight home.Never again with Olympic.

Well run apartments, however they were very noisy on several nights.(until 2am).The music from the pool bar was quite loud. The beer was quite expensive(3 euros).Food was good, with reasonable prices.

The resort was really pretty with spectacular views, take a trip to the Bella Vista, there`s a free mini bus that goes to the village at 12.30 ish, leaving from just above the apartments. The resort is quite strung out, which is a nuisance,as nearest beach is about 30 mins stroll. The price of sunbeds and umbrellas varied from 5 to 12 euros. It`s possible to catch a bus to travel both ways. The bus stop is about 30 meters(turn right) from apartment.Corfu town is about 20 mins on the bus, timetables at the stop. The super market,ATM is about 300 mtrs(turn left). There are 3 restaurants close to the apartments,we ate at all 3 which were all OK,but found that Spiros served the nicest Greek meals(we ate there last 8 nights).

We hired a car for a week, and went all round the island, there are some nice sandy beaches on the west side.Glyfada was really good, however this was the only time we have ever been ripped off in Greece. We had a terrible meal in the Glyfada Taverna (right at the end of the beach). He also overcharged us 8 euros, refused to show us a bill,or to check the menu. Don`t go there.

There was a really nice beach just before Glyfada,I think it was called Myritosa?.It was awkward to get to,but park in the taverna and its only a 200 mtr steep slope to climb.but worth it(some nudists).Kassiopi was a really nice resort, will probably go back there.San Giorgious was another nice place.

Recommend the trip to Paxos/Parga.

just back from paleo and wot a brill holiday we have had. The aphroditie is clean and well maintained the staff are friendly and happy to help. If you are looking for a place to unwind and relax by the pool this is the place to try. No club 13 to 30s partying here!

The resteraunts are clean and a pleasure to eat in i would recomend the posidon as the steak madera is lush and the nerieds for a bit of class and some plate smashing. The beaches are easy to get to and are clean.Thats all the good stuff now for a few negatives the olympic reps are a bit naff and dont inform you of much i.e safety boxes where to cash travellers cheques nearest doctors etc the trips they organize are a waste of money and you would do better to look around.

On your last night on the island you have to give up some of your time to search out the rep to find out when you are leaving because they dont put it up on a notice board we found this a bit inconvinient as we had dinner dates with friends on other side of island.

So we hope this gives you an insight to a holiday you will not regret trying bye !

My/Our Holiday Review:

First holiday to Greece/islands so unsure of what to expect as we were aware that most self catering accommodation is basic.

I can only agree with others who have reviewed this appartment complex. The rooms, pool and bar area were spotlessly clean and although it was situated quite a way from the main beach in Paleo (around 45 minutes walk) it was in a lovely setting, surrounded by woods and hills, just right for a quiet relaxing holiday. I have to say we were not keen on the walk into Paleo due to having to walk in the road and brave the traffic....all those mopeds! It could be a bit scary, especially at night, lots of unfenced drops and uneven ground. Definitely not the place to stay for anyone with a disability or walking difficulties.

The nearest taverna to the Aphroditi was Militiadis Corner just across the road where the food and service were excellent but lots of choice of eating places all the way down into Paleo. There is a shingle beach about 15 minutes walk from these appartments but there are plenty of sunbeds around the pool anyway. Even though our holiday was at the height of the season there were no huge crowds in Paleokastritsa or rowdy nightclubs so it is ideal for anyone looking for a bit of peace and quiet in the sun.

Worth visiting are the monastery in Paleo, great views from up there but even better from the Bella Vista restaurant up the mountain which looks down on the monastery and the whole of Paleo, the scenery is breathtaking. The beach in Paleo itself looked rather crowded but it is possible to reach more secluded beaches by boat.

Corfu town is easily reached by bus and it takes about 30 minutes, though the last one back to Paleo leaves at 6 PM and taxis are expensive, up to 40 Euros. Don't bother getting back to Corfu Town bus station early for your return bus trip in the hope of getting a seat as you will be trampled in the crush when the bus doors open anyway! Eating out was reasonably priced but there were not so many snack bar type eateries in Paleo, such as can be found in Corfu Town itself where you can buy those lovely spinach and cheese pies.

We went on a day cruise to Parga on the Greek mainland, beautiful place but very crowded, plenty of restaurants and shops though and a nice (very crowded) beach. We also stopped off in Paxos which is extremely beautiful and well worth a visit.

All in all we really enjoyed our first Greek holiday and would definitely return to the area at some point in the future.

Just back from the Aphroditi Apartments. Had the best holiday every.

The staff are so friendly and will do anything to help you out. The apartments themselves are spotless as is the pool area and pool bar which serves excellent snacks which are really good value for money. A few restaurants nearby - the best was Miltiadis Corner - just across the road from the Aphroditi. The apartments are a little bit out of the way but if you want it a little busier you can always walk further into Paleo.

Would definitely recommend these apartments.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Having reviewed this apartment on the Uncovered web site before we left for our holiday, we felt certain that we would be staying at an excellent Apartment.

Every review we read was spot on. You can't fully describe how friendly the owners of the Aphrodite are. They have constantly got smiles on there faces, even though they work incredibly hard, and they make sure you have the best holiday possible.

The Apartment rooms are spotless, and a standard Greek Studio arrangement. You look out from your balcony onto the stunning lush green mountains, and the pool and pool area are cleaned to an excellent standard, with the service and snacks available at the pool bar, perfect to cure any hangover munchies.

The Aphrodite is situated on the outskirts of Paleo resort, and this would be the only downside to it's location. It's about a 20-25 min walk to he first beach which is a pebble beach, and a 40-50 min walk to the two main beaches down by the harbour. The harbour beach is always quiet, and on one day there was only one other couple! The other beach is the only all sand beach, and therefore can get quite busy. The sea and views from the beaches are stunning. The sea is one of the clearest I've ever swam in, and excellent for snorkelling, although there's plenty of fish swimming in the shallow water, which seemed great fun for kids.

There are plenty of restaurants and taverns to chose from. The Oasis (just down the road from the Apartments), Nerieds (great floor show) and Poseidon (over looks the sea) would be our recommendations. The food and drinks were surprisingly cheap. If you like late nights out the Moody Blue Bar and the Mistral Bar were the best places to go.

The one place you must visit if you go to Paleo is the Grotto Bar (gets quite busy at night), it's about 10 mins walk from the Apartments, and it's dug into a cliff overlooking a cove with crystal clear water, which is packed full of fish.

It's an amazing place to snorkel, or dive from the cliffs. There's decking above the length of the cove with sun lounges and tables and chairs, a stunning place to go late afternoon, early evening.

The only downside to the holiday, was that to get to most places you had to walk down a road, which could get quite busy and didn't have any pavement, not really advisable for people with walking difficulties or young children.

My/Our Holiday Review:

The Aphrodite apartments were a wonderful place to stay in such a beatiful resort. Reading some background before we went I was a little concered that the resort would be too quiet and a lack of choice in the way of places to eat etc but there are more than enough bars and Tavernas to keep you well fed, watered and entertained for 2 weeks.

The family that run the Aphrodite are amongst the warmest and most accommodating people that it has been my pleasure to meet, they work incredibly hard and never fail to have a smile and always have time to help you or teach you some useful (and some rude!) Greek to help you get by. The food at the pool bar is very reasonable and tasty, the pool itself is clean and the entire place is kept spotless, there really isn't a bad word I can say about the place and certainly none about the people.

Good places to eat; I'd recommend Spiros Taverna just down the road on a Tuesday or Saturday - the spit roast lamb is superb, we had an excellent 3 course meal with a drink each for 40 Euros, that's for 4 people. Nereid's is a little further to walk but go on a Tuesday or Saturday for the Greek dancing, the staff there again are excellent and the waiters put on an amazing floor show. The fresh fish is very good there and the mixed grills are enormous!

If you do go I also highly recommend hiring a car for 3 days, get down to Glyfada beach for a day and drive up to Lakones (if you have a head for heights) the views are simply stunning and I will never forget it. If privacy is something you seek then hire a boat or take a water taxi from La Grotta to one of the beaches that cannot be reached by road. Having an entire beach nearly to yourself with no other signs of man apart from a few boats moored nearby is just another incredible experience Paleo has to offer.

Simply speaking, if you enjoy beatiful scenery, good food and friendly people and can put up with walking the odd hill or two then you would be very hard pressed to find anywhere better to unwind and forget the stresses of everyday life.

We shall certainly return, to never have gone there would have been a tragedy, to fail to return a crime!

My/Our Holiday Review:

We went as a last minute job to Paleokastritsa as I had holidayed there as a child and always had fond memories of the amazing views and beaches.

After many years I wasnt dissapointed, the beaches are still stunning and the vista amazing. The down side is this is not a resort as such.. There is a winding cliff road which connects the hotels and apartments which runs about a mile and a half, majority of the bars and restaurants are in the area of the Akrotiri Beach Hotel. Plenty of good food and drink round there. The Apollon is reasonably new, built in the usual 'Theopapadopulous the builder style' i.e. very cheap.. the rooms are up a path near a field (still very nice) and have the basics in them, but I mean basics. The food is very nice but we had to walk down the road to reach them.

PLEASE READ THIS PART.

DESPITE MY OTHER HALF BEING ITALIAN WE WOULD STRONGLE RECCOMMEND AVOIDING THE ITALIAN HOLIDAY SEASON AS THIS IS ONE OF THEIR FAVOURITE PLACES TO GO TO AND THEY SMOKE ON THE BEACH, WHILE SWIMMING AND THE SEA IS FULL OF DOGENDS AND THE LOCALS GET QUITE UPSET. THE ITALIANS ALSO COOK THEIR OWN FOOR IN APARTMENTS SO THE RESTAURANTS AND BARS ARE DEAD WHEN THEY ARE IN TOWN.....

GREAT PLACE, GO AT THE END OF THE SEASON TO THE AKROTIRI IF YOU MUST

My/Our Holiday Review:

Paleokastritsa is a beautiful resort and as a couple who like to paint and draw there are many wonderful sites to take in. The beaches are clean and there are many little coves to explore. The water quality of the sea is clean and crystal clear. Our children spent many hours snorkeling and screaming as they were pulled along at breakneck speed on a banana boat.

There are a range of restaraunts offering a variety of menus which cater for adults and kids alike and with fussy little eaters like ours we were more than happy. I can not recommend highly enough the Apollon hotel run by Karen and Craig. We had many hilairious evenings, Greek night must not be missed. One of our favourite memories is the look of surprise on a friend's face as she was spun round with her legs gripped around an enthusiastic Greek dancer. One evening we broke the kareoke machine we were so bad. Their meals are to die for and are reasonably priced.

Why, I'm sure you are asking, are we spending so much time extoling the virtues of accomodation we didn't even stay at? The answer is simple. I will never stay at the at the Arriana Apartments again. I would rather spend 2 weeks peeling potatoes in an army barracks. The apartments are shabby, we found mouse droppings in the cupboards and the rooms are rarely cleaned. Our toilet bin was not emptied for eight days and with 3 children you can imagine the aroma. The maid, who left halfway through the holiday and is a fellow compatriot would not have looked out of place as one of the guards in an episode of Tenko(this reference may only be relevent to people of my advanced years). She was rude and often shouted at my children.

All in all, as you can see, I would summerise this review by saying, "Nice resort, shame about the accomadation."

My/Our Holiday Review:

We have just got back from Corfu, and have to say that some of the reviews here are nothing like what we have experienced on our holiday in Paleo.

We arrived at 04.00 in the morning by taxi that Cosmos laid on for us at no extra charge, we where given a welcome sheet by our rep which told us which room we where in and the time of the welcome meeting.

We went to our room and discocovered that it was not as bad as we were led to belive from previous reviews, ok it was basic but it was clean and well equiped with a kettle and a two ring stove also a fridge.

The only complaint about the room from the two of us was the beds, they were very hard and very low.

We awoke that afternoon to attend the welcome meeting and had to walk past the Pool to get to the bar, the pool was brilliantly crystal clear and looked well maintained, the pool bar itself was not as good. the bar stools were wonky and looked like they could do with a clean, the tables and chairs at the bar were fine.

The COSMOS re did her spiel and tried to sell her trips and car hire but out of 9 of us at the meeting only one person bought any trips due to them being very expesive 33e for the glass bottom boat per adult, they also wanted 105e for 3 days car hire and the trip to Albainia was 19.50e per adult plus port tax and if you wanted the optional guided tour it was another 18e.The next day the owner of Ariana Apartments came up to us and ask us why we did not take up any of the trips, we told him that we thought that they were expensive which he agreed and informed us that he could do the same things for a fraction of the price (glass bottom boat for 15e per person)and car hire for 95e including insurance and delivery and collection of the car.We took him up on the car hire and the next day a brand new Fiat Panda was delivered to us all for 95e.

Some freinds of ours went on the Glass bottom boat trip the first week we were there and said it was excellent and for 15e each it was well worth the money, they told us that they had a BBQ "with loads of food" on the beach and there were games and the wine was flowing all day, some other people who where on our second week there said that they had paid to go with the COSMOS glass bottom boat and it was the worst day they had on their holiday, they paid 99e for two adults and two children and they told us that they had one piece of chicken which was covered in Peppercorns which they could not eat and they had one cup of wine all day, there was no shelter on the boat to hide from the sun which on the day they went was 33 degrees in the shade.

All in all we had a great time here at the Ariana Apartments adn wold highly reccomend it to anyone.

One word of advice to all who stay here, dont let the Ukrainian housekeeper helana catch you with the bathroom light on during daylight hours or she will give you a good talking to in ukrainian.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Arrived in Paleo on a hot August Monday afternoon. Belvedere apartments/studios are quite basic but adequate and are cleaned regularly. Our apartment was down many steep steps, so be prepared, (good exercise).

The area is beautiful and the people are the friendliest I have ever known. The Belvedere has a small pool and a lovely restaurant. Spent many afternoons just chilling by the pool and had some great meals here as well.

Nikkos is always around pool area/bar to help and all of the staff and family are really helpful and have always got a smile.

Next door is the Dolphin restaurant which is also very good and extremely good value.

Not a busy resort, although at the Monastry end it gets busy with day trippers but we found it to be 'just right' and you have a good choice of eating places.

There are several good beaches but we mainly just stayed around the pool most days, apart from Aqualand, glass bottom boat trip, etc.

The Greek night is a must !

Will be going again, hopefully next year, can't remember when I enjoyed a holiday so much!

My/Our Holiday Review:

The Belvedere was well situated with fantastic panoramic views. All the staff and the owners family were very friendly and helpful. The apartment was clean and spacious and the shower was always hot,if required,at any time during the day or night. We were well situated to walk around most of Paleo including the 14th century monastry, harbour and various resturants and bars.

Paleo is a very quiet resort so if you are looking for nightlife and clubs go to Kavos. There were water sports if required and you could enjoy using pools other than the Belvedere if you so wished, free of charge.

The food was very good and you did receive 10% discount on all purchases from the Belvedere if you were a resident on both food and drink provided you reminder the staff.

Other enjoyable places to eat include the Antama restaurant with a great view of the bay, or the Dolphin which was very resonably priced. Both just a few hundred yards from the apartment.

We ate out on each of the fourteen nights stay and did not have a bad experience once.

There were several British tourists in Paleo who had returned ach year some for the past twenty years which is always a good sign of a great resort.

The Faros provided a very enjoyable Greek night each Saturday including food and dance. The owners Katerina and Yannis were extremely friendly and amusing. I would certainly recommend the Greek night which is far cheaper than the official night arranged by Olympic. I did go on that and three other excursions which were OK but overpriced.

I would thoroughly recommend both the Belvedere and Paleo and we will return at some point in the future.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We booked our holiday on the internet and took a chance as we really didn't know anything about the resort or the accomodation. We arrived at about 2am so couldn't really see much of the scenery so we were still apprehensive !!

We were very pleased with the apartment. It was very clean - one room with 2 single beds - a small kitchenette and a separate bathroom. There was no loo roll though so I advise that you take your own !

When we woke up the next day we realised that we had sea views and a lovely shared patio outside - with grapes growing from a vine !

Then we decided to explore. Our location we soon found out was excellent. Paleo is a very widely spread resort with a few very pretty bays. We were positioned fairly centrally to two of those bays so we had a good choice ! There are lots of steps involved when going anywhere so be prepared. We found the best bay to the the farthest at to the end of the resort near the monastery. That beach was sandy rather that pebbley.

If you like water sports you will be well catered for with water skiing and boat hire available.

Eating out was a pleasure. We tried a different restaurant every night for our 7 night stay. The Belvedere restaurant and bar were very nice. Very friendly people and the food was good. Our other fav place was the restaurant at the nearby harbour where I had a fantastic steak ! All the restaurants and bars are of a good standard so you will be spoilt for choice.

All in all it was an excellent holiday and we would definitely like to go back sometime in the future.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We booked the evening before on the web, less than 23 hours before we flew. The flight was good, we were entertained by groups of lads and lassies on their way to the party resort of Kavos, dressed up to the nines!

The airport at Corfu was ok, bit of a delay. They seem to time a lot of flights to arrive at once, I suppose to coordinate the coach transfers, but this means the luggage belts get very busy. However once the last couple had been reunited with their luggage, we were off. The transfer was about an hour, with a stop off at Agios Gordis on the way. Sadly it was dark, so we were unable to see much of Corfu!

The studios are very basic, clean enough, but tiny and out dated. If you have been to Greece before, you will be familiar with the set-up of Greek self-catering accomadation - twin beds, wardrobe, dressing table, chair, mirror, small kitchenette with sink, fridge, kettle; and a tiny bathroom with loo, sink, a low pressure shower. There is also a terrace which has very nice views of the hills and the sea. These studios are up a fairly steep hill, but have a little well-stocked supermarket opposite for supplies.

We didn't mind the condition of them, although we did get a complete bargain, had we paid the brochure price for the same week, I would have been horrified.

We hired a moped for the first 5 days from George Michaels. He and his lovely wife couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, recommending places to visit and places not to visit.

We spent every day travelling to a different resort. Sidari - ok, good for families, nice beach, MacDonalds ;-(. Dassia - really nice beachfront cafes and bars, nice beach, lots of watersport type activities. Agios Geordis - lovely beach, shops, bars, restaurants, (could have happily stayed a week). Went to Corfu town, but it was BOILING, over 45 degrees, so we wandered limply around the shops and then sat and ate and drank all afternoon in the shade.

We also hired a motorboat from the harbour in Paleokastritsa and spent a wonderful six hours exploring the coastline either side of the resort - recommended.

The last two days we spent in the resort, on the lovely sandy beach by the monestry. The sea was FREEZING, we learnt the phrase for 'blimin cold' in all of the languages of all of the different nationalities on the beach. The beach IS lovely, clear water, sandy and pebbley, sheltered, sunbeds, showers, cafes within sarong-covered walking distance.

We had a lovely time and would recommend the very quiet resort to families and couples seeking peace and quiet, restaurants and beaches.

Studio a bit cramped for space and the furniture has seen better days (opening/shutting drawers under the wardrobe was an acquired skill!). The shower was the usual standard found in Greece – ie hard work to use. However, it was clean and the location was excellent and the views gorgeous. Very convenient for supermarket across the road. Paleo is such a peaceful spot and the Captain’s Apartments are very tranquil.

Favourite restaurant is the Alipa overlooking the harbour beach – a real quality restaurant with friendly staff and great food. Farther along the main road is the Adama set into the cliff on terraces – a romantic spot overlooking the bay. Food good here too - try their Mixed Meze, it's awesome!

If you like walking, there are some great paths to explore which take you up the mountain to Lakones, a delightful village full of character. If you are a little more adventurous, there is some good walking beyond the village, over the mountain top. Also, via Makrades and Krini taking you to the castle which seems to balance on a pinnacle – don’t let the sight of it put you off; it is actually a fairly easy climb. We always eat at Boulis in Lakones, where Spiro and Elena give you a welcome akin to a couple of excited Labradors! And serve good value, home-cooked food.

Fabulous holiday and we’ll be back!

Resort very scenic but accommodation at the Elena apartments was disappointing. We stayed in Apt 6 which has a small balcony running around it, but is effectively the middle floor and suffers from noise from the apts above and below. You quickly become all too familiar with your fellow residents bathroom routines as you can hear far more than you would ever want to. Standard of the apts is basic in comparison to what you can now get renting privately for the same (if not less) money. There is no reception area, no information pack and so we never did find out how to hire the air conditioning unit - but as only there for one week - not particularly bothered. Both restaurants across the road offer good value meals and are better than many in the heart of the resort, which is about 30 mins away on foot.

Best find was heading out of the resort and down a lane on the right about 200 yds from Elena - signposted Bar Acapulco. This place is fantastic - excellent views, friendly Greek owners and terraces leading down to rock bathing in the bay with sun loungers at no charge. They also have three very nice modern studios for rent. That is where we would stay if we vist again.

My/Our Holiday Review:

First impressions of the Elena (and Paleo)were not favourable.

The apartments are simple in the Greek style. Bedrooms are large and heavy on the pine furniture, but the communal areas of kitchen, hall with table in and bathroom are not spacious. The kitchen however is fully equipped with a fridge, hot rings and a mini oven, a rarity in greece. Hot water is provided by a hot water boiler in the bathroom which boosts the solar heating. Air Conditioning is available (we paid 10Euros a night). This was expensive but very worthwhile as there was little air flow. Apt 1 has a large patio and is ground floor, 2 and 3 have very small patios, and are up 3 or 4 steps, Apt 4 slightly longer but still narrow patio, 5 has large balcony to the rear of the property but is on the top floor (approx 20 steps), apt 6 is also on the top floor and has the largest and the best balcony. This is on the front of the property. If you are able to make special requests and you dont mind the steps/height this is the one to go for.

The apartment itself is set up quite a steep but short drive, cases must be carried up by customers from the main road.

There are two tavernas opposite well worth a mention - the Oasis (caters better for small children with a small play area) reasonable menu, well presented good size portions, and the SPIROs taverna, good portions, bit more traditional, often provides free garlic bread or salad or tatziki.

The Mermaid pool (Philoxenia) is nearby, easy stroll.Good sixe, shallow good for inflatables etc, the Acapulco slightly further walk smaller, dive board, worth a visit. The food in both is more of the snack bar variety.

Exchange facilities and lock boxes available in the camp site next door to the apartments. Supermarket across the road.

The area of the apartments is a good half hour walk to the resort. This is not a pedestrian friendly road, very windy, poorly lit, not hugely busy, but still not a good place to walk, even worse with small children. We ended up hiring a car for a week to be able to shift the kids around with a degree of safety.

Car was hired from George next door to the supermarket- approx £140 for the week. Small hyundai atos 900 cc. Roads very windy and steep max speed limit 70kms dropping to 30 or 20 on narrow roads so this was fine for a family of 4. Island is easy to get around by car, went to Sidari, saw it and drove straight through! Agios Stephanons (North West corner)is a good flat beach well worth a visit. Also Glyfada further south on the West Coast.

Aqualand is a definate must, but quite an expensive day out. 18 per adult and 12 per child. Corfu Town is a pleasant day out but head out early - parking is easy by the old port.

The apartments each have 2 bedrooms;a small kitchen area; small dining area with TV and a bathroom. All have own balconies and/or patio area. We had the biggest balcony in Paleo, I reckon! It was at the back of the appartments and had the most amazing view onto the rocky outcrops and olive groves! Wonderful. The lady who owns the appartments also cleans every other day and she does a brilliant job...everything is spotless when she's finished! We enjoyed our stay there...no complaints at all.

The nearest swimming pool is at the Mermaid bar / Philoxenia, 50 meters from the appartments. It's the biggest pool in Paleo and it's lovely.

The Acopulco bar is great to visit and has amazing views, a pool and steps down to sea where you can swim to Liapades beach.

Spiros Taverna is nearby and has great food. It's a family run business and they are very friendly and the atmosphere there is great. We thoroughly enjoyed our evenings there.

Moody Blues is a 15 min walk and has a good party atmosphere and the most amazing selection of cocktails (3.5 to 4 euros each).

Antama restaurant (with a great view of harbour) has really wonderful food - a real treat and a very pretty place to eat.Very reasonable too! It had a very extensive menu.

Paleo is a very beautiful resort and we had a fab holiday there.Well worth going back to.

My/Our Holiday Review:

We had a wonderful time in Paleo, but unfortunately this was not down to the apartments we stayed in:

Apartments:

We stayed in the Fotini complex, the main apartment block, also comprising of the Fotini Annex...which apparently is even worse!

The staff were thoroughly unfriendly. For example, on our first day nobody welcomed us, choosing to go to bed before we arrived. Also on our last day we had to check out at 12noon, but our transfer bus did not leave the resort until 1.45am...over 13 hours later. Yet the staff refused to offer us access to a shower/bathroom/changing facilities, so we had to shower on the beach. This was hardly satisfactory considering we had spent a week there, often eating lunch in the bar. Also, we made some friends at the resort, but on inviting them back to the hotel we were told they were not allowed in, because they didn't want any trouble'. I found this very offensive as we conduct ourselves very well and were clearly very respectable people.

Also, the apartment was not cleaned once in the entire stay. The sheets were changed once, but we had the same towels all week. Even the bins in the kitchen and toilet were not emptied which I found particulary horrible considering you have to put toilet paper in the bins rather than down the toilet.

Also, the staff generally conduct themselves in an unfriendly manner. For example, one nearly ran me over in her car as she left the apartment one evening, and she started shouting abuse at me in Greek. One of the neighbours from a nearby villa came out and shouted back at her and an argument ensued. The man apologised to me on her behalf! Even the local Greeks agreed with us that they are not friendly people, and asked that we don't take them as a reflection of how Greek people are.

Resort:

Paleo is very friendly and retains its Greek charm. Most tourists are Italian or Greek, with only a few Brits, yet everybody speaks English very well. The beach is very clean and the water is extremely clear and gentle - perfect for swimming, though it is pebbly, so not ideal for children. I would def recommend this resort for couples or groups of friends seeking a hol based around the beach and eating out of an evening. However, the location is ideal for further site-seeing along the island. For example Corfu town is only about 25mins away. We also went on an excursion to Parga on the Mainland and Paxos island, with Olympic which we would recommend to see a bit more of Greece.

Even though Paleo is a quiet resort, Moody Blue is def the best bar in Paleo for a good night out. It stays open until 5am, and is very friendly and reasonably priced. The music is good, and locals and tourists mix there alike.

I hope to return in September as it was such a wonderful holiday...but I will sadly be avoiding the Fotini complex and annex.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Bearing in mind the comments of other reviewers, we took some time to decide whether to book the Fotini complex or the annex. The reviews give a clear steer towards the complex but they do no have apartments for 4. We considered (at least for a short time!) booking 2 rooms at the complex, one each for one adult and one child. We could then judge when we got there whether it was safe and prudent to change to one room for mum & dad / one for the kids. Common sense prevailed and we booked the annex.

Arriving with some trepidation, we need not have been worried. True, the two room apartment was pretty basic and could have done with the odd repair or two (nothing serious but things such as a loose tap fitting, cracked tiles). However, it was perfectly comfortable and most importantly, clean. We were met immediately by the landlady, Vassilika. She could not speak a word of English - in fact I think she was German - but she was so very friendly! She worked very hard throughout. In fact I don't recall a day she was not at the apartments, cleaning and tidying (she lives in Lakones, a quite impressive and steep daily walk). She came into our apartment most days to clean and we got fresh linen / towels every 3 days or so.

Fotini is divided into four areas - the complex (pictured in the brochure), the annex (where we stayed), annex 1 (we didn't really get to see this but it's a further 50 metres or so away from the complex) and another, smaller set of apartments opposite the complex (can't remember what they were called!).

The short walk to the nearby swimming pool - in front of the complex - was no difficulty at all and no more than 50 metres.

If there was one annoying feature it was the lack of air conditioning. Now we weren't expecting any but neither were we expecting any in the complex. In fact both the complex and annex 1 have air conditioning - at additional cost - but bearing in mind the heat it was something I would gladly have paid for. As it happened, Vassilka offered us (by means of sign language!) two electric fans for hire at 4 euros each per day. NOw this was far from cheap - 112 euros for the entire 2 week stay - but essential. It was close to unbearably hot at night.

In summary, if you travel in the hottest part of the summer I would be very tempted to stick with the complex or anywhere else with air conditioning for this reason alone. But like I say, this aside we were very happy with the annex and rate them as "good".

As mentioned by several other reviewers, make sure you take plenty of anti-mosquito gear. We took 4 electric plug ins and they did a fine job in the apartment. However, when out and about in the evening you definitely need plenty of repellent and some bite cream for the odd occasion they get a piece of you anyway.

Paleocastritsa itself was very good. Its very strung out as a resort. Walking from one end to the other would take at least half an hour and only 10 percent or so of the length has any pavement. It can be a bit hairy at times - keep an eye on your kids if you have any! But the scenery is great and makes the walking worthwhile. TBH we didn't really use the beaches in Paleo - though the kids did spend some time on Alipa beach whilst we read / drank coffee at the very pleasant Alipa restaurant. This beach is also the harbour and seems to be quieter than the others but very pleasant nonetheless. The other beaches all seemed to be packed most of the day - not surpising bearing in mind the beautiful sand and clear blue water - and the fact that they're pretty small. For swimming we tended to stay wih the swimming pool.

The walk to and from the apartment (from the main road) was via a very steep hill about 300 metres in length. I'm a bit ambivalent about this. It was a pain - especially during the day at the hottest times. However, the fact was that as a result you have a truly excellent view (our first floor balcony did have a sea view, despite what the brochure / booking papers said) and Fotini is far enough from the main road and bars to be peaceful. On this basis, for us the hill was a worthwile trade off.

The main road - in addition to the lack of pavements - did seem to kick up a fair bit of traffic noise, particularly from passing motorbikes. This did not cause us any concern but I think it might if you stayed at apartments close to it (the main road is the only one in and out of Paleo which in effect is a dead end).

We hired a car for a week (via Olympic, booked before we left). I was surprised to find that the hire costs were less than if we had booked out there via the rep.

We visited Aqualand, more as a concession to the kids than something that mum & dad wanted to do. However, we all found the park was great. Not particularly cheap at 68 euros for the 4 of us - but not anymore expensive than a theme park in the UK. There were a whole host of water slides and rides and they all provided a pleasant relief from the heat - though I have to confess they were good fun too! In fact, we conceded to the demands of the kids and visited twice!

Use of a car also allowed us to visit several other places. The highest mountain Moni Pantokrator - was worth a visit, though the approach roads can only be described as a heart in the mouth experience. Not a journey you want if you suffer from vertigo! You get a fantastic view of Corfu from the top and of Albania just beyond. We bought lunch / drinks before we left and took them with us - so didn't use the one cafe at the top other than for coffee.

Agios Georgios (north west), Agios Gordis and Glyfada all had lovely beaches but the one at Pelekas seemed a bit quieter, slightly less developed and was our favourite of the admittedly few we visited.

I'll finish on the subject of food - a subject dear to my heart as I'm very fond of cooking.

We printed a copy of all the entries above and below (some 59 or so pages!) before we left and used the reviews to guide us.

We visited:

Nereids (a relatively short walk) and Oasis / Miltitias Corner (close to each other and a long walk to the top of Paleo) once each and all were perfectly good and much of a muchness in terms of cost. However, none of them truly set themselves apart. The food - whilst Greek - seemed to lack that just cooked / home cooked taste. We visited Belvedere once(again similar - though with a much better view, overlooking the sea) and Adama three times. Adama has a pretty good view too, though slightly set back from the sea. Whilst the food was on a par with all the others it did seem to supply the best value by far. The portions were larger (in fact just plain big), the food and drinks were all a bit cheaper and we got free desserts on each visit! For this reason alone, we have to recommend it.

However, the recommendation above all else is to get to Boulis in Lakones (mentioned by a few other reviewers). This truly does supply the authentic family based Greek restaurant atmosphere and food. It was not really any cheaper of more expensive than anywhere else - and certainly could not be described as flash - but the view way above Paleo was fantastic and the food by far and away ahead of anything else we ate there. It was clear that dishes were made and cooked to order or at least on the day for those that need time. And the family (dad cooks, mum and 2 daughters wait) are so VERY friendly. Dad very obviously treats the restaurant as his life and cooking as his passion. Whilst I have another job, I share this interest!

Mousaka / Stifado and the other dishes just tasted so much better, perhaps at least in part a tribute to dad's brother - the local butcher. The only downside is that you need to drive or face a 40 or so minute walk up a very steep hill. However, as other reviewers mention when you get to the top you can visit the Golden Fox restaurant (at the other end of Lakones) and for a cooling swim in its great pool - have a drink there (perhaps only one mind - it's comparitively expensive) and savour the truly exceptional view of Paleo and the sea below. This is DEFINITELY not one to miss. The do what we did - go to Boulis for dinner. Just be aware that if you walk you'll need to leave before it gets dark!

All in all a great holiday!

My/Our Holiday Review:

My partner and i had a fantastic holiday here in October. The apartments were basic but clean and the staff especially Fotini herself are very friendly.

We ate in the Paradise taverna at the bottom of the hill everynight and thought the food was good and reasonably cheap. This was always followed with a visit to Moody Blues, a bar definately worth going to. The owners are mad especially the one with his tamborine and the waitress was an absolute star too, think her name was Natalee but anyway she always had a smile on her face, aparently she was a former rep and had we have gone to the Fotini complex earlier she would have been our rep!

we had a 10 day break in paleo wanting a relaxed and quiet holiday, but was wasnt the word!!! it was like a ghost town nothing to do a few restuarants and a couple of bars, in the day if you wanted to the beach you would have to make sure you didnt want to go back to your apartment for anything as the walk up a steep hill was awful!!!! no way was it a slow stroll as advertised in the brochure!!!! we only went down in the evening !!!!

as for the accomodation we were in the annex make sure you ask for the apartments as the annex is too basic , i have to say i would never return there again!!!!!!!!!

My/Our Holiday Review:

looked up the reviews for quieter corfu resort before booking and came up with fotini complex from this site. Value for money, absolutely excellent. Basic apartments, basic facilties (2 ring electric for saucepans + a fridge) piping hot water for shower, no curtain as expected, 2 small towels, 1 teatowel all very clean, crisp clean linen for twin beds.

Ms Fotini cleaned down the terrace/bar area, pool and sunbeds meticulously every day! Fantastic views from the balconies and friendly co-users. Resort very picturesque, quiet in mid- October, weather was good (only 1 full day rain and overcast)sea swimming excellent.

Resort little 'trippery' no real bars/restaurants frequented by locals as such - all there mainly for the tourists, the coach visitors and the season. Eating/drinking a little bit expensive because of this (I thought?)compared to Corfu town which inevitably was more cosmopolitan and cheaper for eating. Overall - The Olympic package was extremely good value.

Fotini complex would highly reccommend for 'basic' clean comfortable base(a five-ten minute uphill trek for a fast walker!). Lakones further up, more like a local village with local life enjoyed the walk and visit to Lakones very much.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Our two week holiday at the Fotini complex was brilliant & very relaxing.

The family who own the complex are really freindly especially Fotini who never seems to stop working. The rooms are kept very nice & clean but could do with bigger towels. Granny cleans rooms 3 times a week & also never seems to stop working.

The pool & poolside bar are excellent & also kept spotlessly clean. Dont be put off by what people say about the hill its about a ten minute walk at the most but worth it when you get to the apartments for the veiws of Paleokastritsa. Make sure when booking that you get the Fotini complex not the Fotini annexe as this is run by different people.

There are plenty of excellent restaurants to eat in including the Nausia, Neredes & the antama thier are also plenty of tavernas to have a drink into the small hours if you wish. The Monastry is well worth a visit but i would not reccomend eating there but the sunset views are terrific.

we stayed next door at the fotini annex, we were a little disappointed as the fotini apts looked a little nicer. However the pool area was spotless and fotini made us all very welcome from the moment we arrived.

paleo is a lovely resort and more than makes up for the walk up the hill (we timed this at about 7 minutes not 1/2 hr as some people were saying).

Overall we had a lovely holiday, i would love to go back again soon...

My/Our Holiday Review:

An absolutley fantastic holiday with such excellent hosts at the Fotini apartments. The only problem being the hill? (remember to stop once or thrice).

The accomodation is basic ie, two single beds, wardrobe and dressing table & stool,a couple of chairs, along with small table and chairs on the balcony. The kitchen is provided with all the basic needs to provide simple meals and having a two ring electric burner and fridge. (its enough to keep plenty of beer cool). The rooms were regularly cleaned with linen changes.(remember to take a couple of bath towels). The rooms are light and airy and quite a good size too. The pool was always kept clean by the wonderful Fotini who is a real angel, ensuring the poolside was always clean and tidy (assisted by the also wonderful Corina).Indeed, the whole family including Fotini's Mum and Pops and Grandma really made you feel welcome and tried to ensure thatyou enjoyed your stay. (ask Fotini about her card tricks - shes just magic).

away from the apartments there are plenty of supermarkets to get what you need, the beaches are as others have said singlely/pebbles but nice and clean. Plenty of restaurants to choose from. (I'll let you choose which ones were the best), but a favourite is the Bon a Vista up in Lacones. The views were......... Just fantasic. Hired a scooter to get around and it proved the best thing ever.(not hired one on holiday before - now I know what i've been missing).

If there was anything to complain about it was getting the luggage up and down the hill. The person responsible for that job is that responsible. over an hour late on arrival and ran out of petrol on departure thats as well as being late also. But that didn't spoil the fantasic holiday overall and won't stop us from going back to Fotini's apartments again. (come to think about it, why am I telling all you lot about this, you'll all go and then it'll be full when I want to go back). never mind, enjoy your stay and give my regards to Fotini and her family who ever you are.

The lissipio complex is a great place to stay. Jenny who runs it works so hard day and night and she cooks fantastic food. The pool is lovely and clean. The rooms are basic but are cleaned every other day. We stayed in the annex wich we believe is a bit nicer as we have stayed in the main block too. The views are fab. The best place to eat is at Matildias corner next door. We have been to palio three times now because it is so beautiful. The beach is a bit of a walk but worth the effort.

My/Our Holiday Review:

First the good news - Paleo is a stunningly beautiful part of the world, with a great climate, spectacular views of Corfu, mainland Greece and nearby Alabania.(heat haze permitting!) There are lush green hillsides sloping down to the sea and some beautiful sand or shingle beaches along it's five main bays, with water taxis to more remote sandy beaches, if you want. The Monastery and the Bella Vista viewpoint are both worth a visit.

The people are friendly, helpful and eating out was a pleasure. We tried several places, but preferred to eat at the nearby Oasis Taverna. It is family-run by Spiros and Georgina and most nights their 2 lovely daughters (about 9yrs & 5yrs) will do a turn of Greek dancing!

Now the bad news - Paleo is more of an area than a resort or town as such and is quite remote and spread out among the 5 bays mentioned. There is only one main road in and out, with some smaller roads branching off to nearby villages and almost everywhere you go involves either walking uphill or downhill, with no pavements, poor street lighting and some dangerous bends. During the day you can visit one of the beaches or a pool bar. There is little to do at night, other than eat at a Taverna or one of the few hotels, or visit a cafe bar. If you go to Corfu town, the last bus back is at 6.00pm, or you get a taxi for about 25-30 Euros.

The Lissipio 'A' & 'B' blocks are next to each other, about 20 metres from the main Paleo-Corfu road. We stayed at 'A', which faces the road. There is a steady flow of traffic along this road, including every island tour bus which comes to see Paleo. You WILL be disturbed during the night by traffic, especially by the large numbers of scooters and motorbikes around.

There is a pool and terrace being built at Lissipio, which has apparently been ongoing for 3 years! We saw no work at all during our 2 weeks. If you want to visit the main beaches from here it'll take about a 45 minute walk downhill, along the main road.

Our apartment was the usual basic Greek studio and was one of a few slightly larger than the rest. Typical bathroom (no bath), small kitchen area, with mini-oven and assorted poor quality crockery and cutlery. Didn't bother us too much since we ate out every night. But at least we had a shower curtain and an electric kettle!(why do reps try to make you feel privileged if you have these?) Beds were comfortable enough, BUT, bed-linen and towels were only changed once a week, not good enough in those temperatures. Maid service twice a week, could only be described as 'slapdash' - bins emptied and a wet mop wiped AROUND furniture and balcony, No brushing out or moving anything first!

Because the area is covered in trees, you will see plenty of wasps during the day and mosquitos by night. You will need every anti-insect and bite/sting cream or repellant you can get your hands on! There are also feral cats wandering around, some of which are semi-domesticated, to the extent that they'll wander into your apartment looking for food!

However, having said all that, if you want a get-away-from-it-all holiday and just want to chill out on the beach or at a pool, this is a beautiful, relaxing area. Just don't stay at the Lissipio and if you go Olympic Holidays, don't expect too much from your reps!

The lissipio was a bit of a let down as when we got there we were greeted by a half built swimming pool. We asked our Olympic rep what was going on and he just laughed- really helpfull.

The rooms were quite large, but there wern't many pans to cook things with and some people didnt even get kettles. We had to share the pool of the Aphrodite which was very nice and they serve great pizzas.

We would recomend going snorkelling lots of great fish although the water is very cold in May. The walk up to the castle is recomended too but remeber to take plenty of water and suncream as we got lost and took us forever to find our way back! All in all we had a great two weeks the resort is fab but the apartments are a bit basic.

We have booked up to again for July 2005 but different apartments. We can't wait to go back!!

My/Our Holiday Review:

We stayed in the two-bedroom apartment, which was spacious and of a decent standard. Family owners were on-site most of the time, and seemed friendly, but kept a low profile. Large patio/balcony front & back - so plenty of space for kiddies pushchairs/toys etc etc.

Good standard pool over the road (Angels pool-bar), with friendly owners, serving snacks & drinks all day - children had a great time here.

Paleo is basically just a 'resort', strung out over a couple of miles, with no discernible 'centre'. However, it is scenic, with four reasonable beaches, and beautiful clear seas. The downside is that you do have to walk along the main road to get anywhere, which can be a little hair-raising with small children.

Harbour beach is the quietest, with the cheapest sunbeds and parasols.

Nausika on the main road, and Limenia Taverna near the harbour beach were our favourites.

We found the resort a little expensive in general, with tavernas charging for covers, then extra for bread with taramasata etc etc.

It is definitely worth the walk up into the hills to Lakones, and do stop at Georges shop en-route to try his delicious home-made wine! The tavernas at the top have spectacular views (but again, can be a little pricey).

All in all, we had a great holiday, and found it was well worth hiring a car for a few days to explore. This is our second visit to Corfu, having been may years ago, and the island still retains bags of character, particularly inland away from the busy coastal resorts.

The resort is fairly quiet and the people are very friendly.

We have already booked to return in September and hope to see some familiar faces who return there year after year just like ourselves back to what we call our second home.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Well! Paleocastrisa is OK, although I certainly prefer other places on the Island such as pelekas though paleo is probably better for children.

Paleo feels very commercial and is a dead town in the winter in that there is nothing there that isnt tourist orientated, may appeal so some but I felt it a bit butlins. Greeks remain generally friendly here though. The beaches tend to small and rocky but are set in many coves, watersports abound and actually crowd the already small crowded beaches, I wanted to escape after a few days. Quite expensive as a resort. Food is quite good everywhere but a bit samey after a while.

Paleo would have been "OK" but for the ever so friendly (ha) yainnis (may have spelt wrong) at the maria studios (also called faros lighthouse). I am amazed others find him friendly. I found him consistantly rude. Him and the rep seemed to think we were harboring a fugitive in our room for about a week, even though our friend came to the pool bar for about 4 hours before going to the airport, never even stayed at all! We said this REPEATEDLY! He really just complained all the time and didnt like own food drink around the pool (which is nice). Bar is expensive and the "greek dancing" is testement to tourists treating forgeiners like an amusement park. Our room was cleaned once in a week. The balcony didnt exist really as was just a walkway so people could walk right outisde room. Music went on late till about 1am and could be heard clearly in room, which are mostly just above bar. We have been travelling for 8 months and this is the first time we have stayed in package style accommodation and never again.

My advice?... dont take the argo holiday at all and arrange your own flights and room in a different resort, rent a car, meet real greeks and you may end up dancing with the locals, not them dancing for you!

My/Our Holiday Review:

We spent a holiday in Paleo in Maria's Studios from 19th Sept to 3rd October. Small, family run rooms (about 20 in total I think). The studios, restaurant, pool and bar are run by Spiros and Maria with their son Yannis and his wife Katerina (and don't forget young Spiros who had his fourth birthday while we were their and to whose party all the guests were invited). The rooms were simply furnished with pine wardrobe, dressing table and two bedside tables. Floor tiles throughout and bright white painted walls. Kitchen had a two ring hob, sink and fridge. Pots, pans and tableware were adequate for all the cooking we done (once?). Plastic table and chairs on the balcony. Bathroom had wc, washhand basin and shower, again tiled throughout. Everything was spotlessly clean and sheets and towels were changed 2/3 times a week. As we were going near the end of the season I was prepared for that run down feel to the rooms but was very pleasantly surprised. The wall painting looked fresh and the funiture/kithen/bathroom had obviously been very well mantained.

There are no safety boxes for hire and at first this gave me some concern. I was assured by Yannis that as this was a family run place with the entrance to the rooms set back from the road and in full view from the rooms, pool and bar, they know all their guests, what's going on and have never had any trouble. The patio doors and entrance door to the rooms were of the double glazed type and very secure. The shutters on the patio doors were metal with an internal lock. After a day or two and learning the set up, I had no worries about leaving valuables in the room.

There is a childrens' pool alongside the main pool. Both are again spotlessly clean and well mantained, something I cannot say about some of the other pools in the area. There is adequate room around the pool and sunloungers are provided free of charge.

The restaurant/bar area overlooks the pool and the family seem to take it in turns to work in the open kitchen. You can watch your meal being prepared and pick up a few tips. Food was very tasty and reasonably priced and we did not have a bad meal while we were there. Do not miss the BBQ on Saturday nights!

The bar played music at nights (a mixture of greek and popular (70s, 80s, 90s, not rave!)) and has what I can best describe as a 'family bbq type' convivial atmosphere. Our room was directly behind the open bar and on the nights we retired early the music could be heard but by closing the double glazed doors the noise did not stop us sleeping.

Paleo itself is very picturesque, based on the fishing port and monastery with a few small pebble beaches(stick to the pool). There are plenty of sightseeing boat trips and many restaurants but few shops outside the usual small supermarkets. The bus service is reliable and cheap(1.70 euro to Corfu town if you want to go shopping)and the bus stops outsibe the Studios. ATMs are available and are easy to use.

Fishing for mullet/garfish is good off the rocks on light gear. Bring size 14 treble hooks with you.

We hired a car for two days thro' a local agent (ask Yannis) for 70 euros (the price per day decreases the longer you take the car but make sure you ask for ENGLISH full comprehensive insurance as greek fully comp is not the same cover.

All in all a nice relaxing holiday, made in a big part by the welcome given and friendship offered by Spiros, Maria, Yannis, Katerina, Bob and Janice (Hello!!). Bright, clean accommadation, great cooking, cracking company and a lovely island.

My/Our Holiday Review:

Maria appts are clean yet very basic make sure you get pool views or you will get woken by the stray cats that have set up home in the rear rubble strewn area of the site.We went self catering but did not have the usual kitchen equipment infact only kettle & 2 ring hot plate.

The pool is ok however if you take the kids as we did beware of granpa grumpy as hes locally known your children will be shouted at, There is no chance of eating a self prepared snack at the pool as you will be told that you should go to the beech to do this......(self catering eh)!!!!!!!! So much for greek people liking children and making you welcome . We even had a word with our rep who was neither use nor ornament let alone anything else anything else.

All in all the holiday was a nightmare made even worse by grampa grumpy and his outspoken ways .

The one thing this holiday has taught me is never travel with Argo holidays, and never go to corfu again .......

My/Our Holiday Review:

There have been several references to the Maria Apartments on these pages: permit me to add my own comments / opinions.

Last month (July), I took my family back to the Maria Apartments: we had been there in 2003, and for us, the choice of a holiday destination in 2004 was unanimous:

Corfu?..YES Paleocastritsa?...YES Maria Apartments?...YES.

Our reasons are set out below:

**The area is possibly the most beautiful part of this fascinating island.

**The apartments boast a pool plus jacuzzi which is religiously cleaned on a daily basis.

**The apartments themselves, while basic (air-conditioning in 2005?), are adequate and cleaned 3 times per week.

**The food is excellent: in addition to an all-day breakfast and lunch menu (cooked to order by Andreas),the evening menu offers the best freshly cooked Greek dishes around. Try their stifado, sofrito, saganaki: healthy portions at an invitingly cheap price (5-7.5 Euros). If you're not relaxing in the pool or at one of the local beaches, take time out to watch Maria and her husband Spiros prepare the evening menu in the kitchen. Ask them about the ingredients they use: you will be greeted by a smile and a reply in English which is probably better than your Greek. They have been involved in the restaurant business for decades. Yes, there are other tavernas on either side: we've tried them all, but you won't find better than here. Put simply, this is the best fare in Paleocastritsa.

**The Saturday night barbeque. This is something special! Fresh lamb and chicken are marinaded for hours, then cooked over an open rotisserie and served with Greek salad, chips, a jug of local wine, and mixed fruit covered with kumquat liqueur for dessert. All this for 12 euros (children pay 6)..plus the added bonus of the Poulamas family dancing, and yes, you can all join in!

**Yiannis Poulamas. The son of Spiros and Maria, this man is something else! He runs the bar (serving beer in frost-covered glasses), plays the music, gives you his "personal opinion" about everything you could think of, then adds some more of his own! With his wife, Katarina, and his 3 sisters (who dance with him and without him), the Poulamas family combine to offer a genuine Greek welcome to all, no matter the age, colour, nationality. Trust me on this.

**I have travelled through Greece for nearly 30 years, stayed in many apartments, and slept on some beaches too (but that's another story1). In my honest opinion, the Maria Apartments offers more than any holiday brochure could describe. The family have a "visitors book", full of comments from individuals, couples, families. They all have either returned (like my family) or intend doing so next year.

**Go there. Make your own comments. I'll bet you'll want to return, and I'll give you shorter odds than Greece winning Euro 2004!!!!

My/Our Holiday Review:

We stayed at the Marilena Apartments for a week in June 2007 and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The apartments are small but very clean and the bathroom and kitchen areas were spotless! The pool area is very nice and was very quiet the week that we were there (in fact sometimes we had the pool completely to ourselves). I think the only negative thing that I could comment on about staying here is that the apartments are a good long walk away from the main resport centre but it does keep you fit. Paleo is a lovely resort, very pretty with some good restaurants and bars. The resort however is fairly quiet and is very hilly. We hired a quadbike for a few days from Spiros which was great fun and loved the trip up to Lefkos whereby we would have lunch at the Golden Fox and then laze around the pool afterwards - the views are breathtaking!

All in all we had a great holiday and will definitely be back to Paleo again!

My/Our Holiday Review:

We were at Marilena appartments for 1 week in June 2006. This is a very small complex. Only about 10 appartments. We had an excellent week here. The apartments very, very well kept, lovely & clean. Very well equipped as well, with everything that you need. The pool & gardens were absolutely lovely
