Messonghi Hotels and Apartments A - Z Apollo Palace Hotel - Messonghi Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - June 2005 Opinion submitted in June 2005 by : 30, 30 Resort Rating: Below Average Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Just returned from a week's break at Apollo Palace Hotel in Messonghi. Absolutely loved the hotel, which was beautiful - lovely room with full marble bathroom, nice balcony and pretty much everything you need. We were on a half board basis and the breakfast buffet was great: there was a choice of fruit, breads, cereals and also cooked breakfasts - it certainly kept us going until tea time. The evening meal - well my husband was quite impressed with as there were plenty of meats on offer, but as a vegetarian I did struggle to eat at times, saying that, I am quite fussy. There was always a soup on offer (again, rarely veggie) and gateaux, ice cream and mousse for desserts. The swimming pools were lovely: you have to pay for sunbeds though and it cost us 5 euros a day to do so. The resort of Messonghi is quiet with not a lot going on, even in June we found the restaurants and bars to be pretty dead really and it was the same in neighbouring Moraitika. We hired a car and drove to Palokaestrita and Corfu town which we loved, and we also hired a quad bike which was great for getting up the nearby mountains to the tiny villages: there were some fantastic views. All in all, we had a lovely relaxing holiday: our only fault with the hotel is that at mealtimes there was a description of each meal in German or Greek but not English and the entertainment was also geared towards the Germans. There were lots of German holiday makers, who all seemed to know each other and we were definitely the minority as English people, which was fine. I don't think I would return to the resort as like I say, the restaurants and bars were empty and it did lack atmosphere. Saying that, we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, afterall it is what you make it isn't it! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kerkyra Island Hotel - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic Aug 2006 Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : flexen 36,37,15,13 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: just got back from kerkyra island hotel, already planning next years holiday back to same place. The rooms are really spacious and very tidy, maid comes in every other day to clean.Owners,Spiros,Voula and their son Yannis are very friendly and always on hand if you need anything. The entertainment is very good also, including Greek night,BBQ,Quizzes and Karaoke, all good fun.Just a short stroll to Fishermans haunt, excellent food and reasonably priced.About 15 minute walk to Messonghi village and you will find more tavernas and restaurants, although really no need to leave hotel as food is delicious and reasonably priced. The hotel pool is spotless and is cleaned morning and night, patio area is spotless also. I would highly recommend this hotel for families or couples of all ages. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kerkyra Island Hotel - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic Holiday - June 2005 Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : Keith & Ann Jeary - Worthing (48,58) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Brilliant holiday, shame about the airline. We flew with First Choice Airways. the seats were so close we could only just get the tables down to sample the less than tasty food. The greeting at the airport was good, the reps were obviously tired having been up all night but they were cheerful, proffesional and very smartly dressed. The transfer on a modern coach stopping at other resorts and apartments en-route. Transfer time approx 1+1/2 hrs. We were then transferred to another minibus for the final leg of the journey. the driver we later found out was Spiros, the owner of Kerkyra Island. The location may not suit everybody, It's about a 20 minute stroll to Mesonghi along a twisty road that is narrow in places with a few small hills. The road isn't busy. Kerkyra Island is exclusive to Olympic, no other nationalaties. It has two seperate parts. The main hotel block close to the pool and reception, and a seperate block of apartments. The room we booked was a small 2 bed apartment. When we walked in we were amazed at the spaciousness of it. Other apartments would class it as 3/4 bed. Spotlessly clean, modern decoration, comfortable furniture and A/C at extra cost if wanted. Kitchen well equiped and bottled water in the fridge too. Maid service was very good, we always had fresh towels when needed and bed linen was changed twice a week. The hotel has an excellent pool and patio area, The restaurant serves traditional Greek food as well as the usual english food for the less adventurous. What ever we chose was a generous portion, well presented and always cooked fresh to order. It was so good we seldom ate elsewhere. The bar and snack bar was open all day with tasty snacks by the pool. Entertainment in the bar was a weekly Greek night, Poolside Bar B Que and a quiz night. All mixed with the Spiros & Voula magic. We were made very welcome, even by Greek standard. Spiros, Voula and Yannis, their son, could not have done more to make our holiday better. If you book this hotel for your holiday you will not be dissapointed. We found it by chance and can't recommend it enough. We can't wait to return in September --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kerkyra Island Hotel - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic - June 2005 Opinion submitted in June 2005 by : Dave Taylor = Manchester (57, 43 Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Great Hotel, large studios(Kettle/Toaster) with inland/part sea views and a fantastic pool area and plenty of sunbeds. The Restaurant serves good food and daytime snacks and at night the bar, which has weekly Greek Dancing,B.B.Q,Karaoke and Quiz nights is a great place to meet the other guests and the very friendly owners Spiros and Voula. Close by, on the sea front is a lovely Taverna called 'The Fishermans Haunt' which serves excellent, reasonably priced food and has great views across the bay. The main resort of Messonghi is a 15 min walk away with a nice sandy beach and good bars and Restaurants. If you have booked this Hotel, you really have hit the jackpot. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kerkyra Island Apartments - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic - 2005 Opinion submitted in Oct 2005 by : Jayne & Nigel Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: Having arrived at 6.30 am in the morning, after traveling for 18hrs, we went straight to bed, when we woke to go down for the reps meeting at 10.00am, we thought we'd take a shower, only to find no hot water! After complaining and being told, 5 minutes, we had no hot water until 4.00pm that day! This continued to be the case for the whole holiday! No hot water until after 3 pm! Also our bedding was not changed for the whole holiday (7days!) This included the towels. The toilet and bathroom were smelly and dirty, and the apartment was shabby and dirty! And an ear infection from the pool didn't help! And i wasn't the only person on the holiday to suffer this! The walk to Messongi was at least 25 minutes, and you took your life into your own hands every time, especially in the dark. The beach was non existent! About 6 feet wide and shingly, and covered in cigarette ends! We did find a nice place to eat, The Fishermans Haunt, only a couple of minutes walk, Good food, lots of it, and cheap, and friendly staff. Having hired a car for three days, we were able to escape the hotel and explore Corfu, only to find it was still in the stone ages, Corfu town itself was lovely, but extremely busy, and Paleocastritsa was quite pretty, but other than that it had not a lot to offer! And watch out for tourists on Mopeds, quad bikes and buggys (Nightmare!) On our last day we vacated our room at 12 noon, even though our flight was not until 5.30 the next day! We were offered the use of the shower room but when we asked if we could use a couple of towels we were flatly refused by the hotel owner! At 1.00am we were taken by minibus to another Hotel to wait for the bus to the airport, which eventually turned up at 1.50am, with no apology for the delay! Then on arrival at the airport were told to wait outsid the airport under a canopy, with a few seats, until we were called about an hour later (Great!) Once in the airport, it was Mayhem!! No one seemed to know what was happening, Olympic Holidays! Never again! The Flights were good, First Choice, there and back, food was good, staff very helpful! All in all the worst Holiday We've ever had, nothing to recommend it!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: First Choice-july 2007 Opinion submitted in August 2007 by : Jo,Lucas,Kayla 42,10,7 Resort Rating: No rating Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: After reading the reviews we were dreading going, however we had a great time and would return. I think that the rooms are dependant on where you are put, some are lovely yet some need to be repaired, however we had 3 single beds in a room that was clean if somewhat basic. The pools were great as were the gardens. The beach is minutes away and is lovely. The entertainment was fine, some nights were average and some really good. The staff, people were all really friendly. The food was ok,however breakfast was lovely. We went out on a fantasic boat trip with Nick the Greek and his 2 sons, who made a wonderful day, look for Leah on the beech in an orange hat to book this trip. The whole family are friendly, fun and really kind. The lads also work at the Very Co Co bar in the town which is a lovely bar, also a nightclub with swimming pool at front.nice place for a drink. We cant fault this holiday or the complex,it was nothing like the reviews that we read. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: sunstart june 2007 Opinion submitted in June 2007 by : debbie jason 35 32 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: left nottingham on the 1st of june did not get to corfu until the 2nd of june at 6.00 in the morning we got shown to our room no fridge no kettle all we wanted was a cup of tea . got to bed about 6.30. woke up went to go in the shower it was not connect to the wall you had to hold it why trying to wash your hair what a nightmare went down for breakfast hotdog sausages no bacon .went to see my parents in there room the first thing what hit me was the smell in there bathroom drains it made my dad ill 2 weeks he had to put up with it for .the dinners were nothing to wright home about very poor my husband did not want to eat there any more .every night was the same music abba abba abba i told danny boy i was fed up with hearing it he said he only had about 4 cds .our holiday was lovely hotel needs bring up to scratch and the food was not nice i dont think i will be going back i did not hear anyone say a good word about this hotel while we was there --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Thomas Cook Direct) Thomas Cook Sept 2006 Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : Melanie Edwards-Birmingham(39,36,14): Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: The Hotel Messonghi Beach does not live up to the comments in the brochures. The first thing you notice when you pull up on the coach is the smell. The reps apparantly call it pongi messonghi!Yes this is correct. Receptionists are not very helpful at all we had to ask nearly every day for clean towels as the maids did not leave any. They did not change our beds either. Rooms are very basic we were staying in a so called bungalow which was more like a prison cell the bunk beds were dangerous as you only had to touch them and they rocked the ladders were not attached, this was very unsafe for our daughter to use she ended up sleeping in my husbands bed and he had to sleep on the bottom bunk. Rooms smelled and the bathroom was very dirty. The food was very bland and WARM NOT HOT!!! this is very off putting my mom was not very well due to warm and cold food. The food was the same every day. We returned from a night out to get into our beds and to my shock there was a lizard in my bed !!!! We would return to Corfu but not to Pongi Messonghi this was our worst holiday ever!!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Thomas Cook Direct) Thomas Cook -August 2006 Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : Rob Stiff-Essex (64,58,50,49,40,39,39,20,18,8) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: A typically Greek Hotel/apartments.Our room was Very basic, with a small bathroom. No air conditioning. The grounds to this hotel were beautiful and always kept neat and tidy with no litter anywhere. There are a good selection of bars, although they are expensive ( 2.9 Euros for a beer).I found the staff to be cheerful and always ready to help. The swimming pools were always clean. We were there for 2 weeks and I think the first week we were the only Brits there! Dominated by Italians and Germans. The second week was quieter with about a 50/50 split of British/Germans. The kids club was very good and on twice a day every day. My 8 year old daughter loved it!.There is a River along side which is good for fishing. The food in the restaurant was ok. Quite a selection. Breakfast was basic continental.Unfortunately I was ill for a couple of days during the second week.Dont know if it was food or not but didn't take a chance and ate at a taverna for the rest of the holiday. As already said earlier 2.5 Euros for sunbeds is bit of a rip off- as is the 7 Euros per day for the hire of fans and fridges. Its cheaper to buy a fan from a supermarket(about 19 Euros) and leave it there at end of holiday! I would give this holiday a 6 out of 10 rating. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: First Choice - July 2006 Opinion submitted in July 2006 by : F Farrow - Norfolk (17 & 19) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: i have just returned from messonghi and after reading the reviews i didnt want to go! but i was very pleasantly suprised. when we arrived it was pouring down with rain and the corridors and landings leading to our room were all flooded and i thought o god! but our room was clean and dry and althought it was basic had everything you needed. we didnt hav air conditioning but never found the room to hot at night, but i think we were lucky as the sun never faced our room directly. we only had hot water every other night and the bathroom floor did flood slightly when you had a shower but when telling my parents this they laughed and said that is Greece! The food was good every night and there was always a range of things to choose from although the beakfast is only continental. for a good cooked english breakfast i would defiently recommend Maxims. The resort itself was very friendly with a good choice of bars and the occasional club. prices in the hotel were abit of a rip off! we found that one cocktail in the hotel was 6euros but in a bar up the road you could get 4 cocktails for the same amount. I would say the water park is a must whatever age! but dont book through first choice reps as it is alot cheaper and you get longer at the park at the excerstions place up the road on the right. our reps were always around when we needed them and did everything they could to help. The beach is not sandy but shingle and you have to pay 2.50 euros for a sun bed here or at the pool. The pools were lovely and cleaned daily. The grounds were kept to a very high standard and there is loads of room. I really enjoyed this holiday and couldnt find much wrong with the resort or the hotel, at the end of the day a holiday is what you make it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: Sunset - June 2006 Opinion submitted in July 2006 by : Gillian & Stuart (49,40) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Opinion: We booked our holiday through Thomas Cook but the Company was Sunset who we had not heard of. Having read the reviews on this site in the main they weren't too good so we just expected another Greek holiday in the usual way. We cannot tell you how surprised we were to find a room that was spotlessly clean and the bathroom was immaculate - loads of towels and a beautiful view of the sea and an ideal spot for watching the entertainment in the main hotel complex. We were put in the Twins and cannot fault the staff for their helpfulness and we had room service each day. Even on our last day they came at 9.00 and saw we were leaving (you can pay for the room until 6pm if you have a later flight but you do have it until noon - it costs e25 and it's worth it) so whilst we were out the maids come in and made the beds and put fresh towels in for us. The only downside was the food (this is a half board hotel basis) - not my cup of tea at all - but you would never starve - there are some good eating places in the village and the villagers themselves are absolutely lovely - they love to teach you Greek so if you take an interest they will love you for it. You do have to pay for the sunbeds e2.50 per day but it's well worth it and if you go to the beach you don't pay for the umbrellas because they are static - we just used the lawns though because the beach is quite narrow and the same guy owns all the beds anyway - so you can plonk yourself down anywhere you like really. We would certainly go back in fact we are thinking about going back next year for another week's break. Beautiful place with lovely people - what more can you want for a pleasant holiday. Enjoy. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: First Choice - June 2006 Opinion submitted in July 2006 by : Hayley Shimmon - Suffolk (22, 19) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: Don't believe all the bad reviews about this hotel, we found it rather good. Yes, we agree charging for the sunbeds on hotel premises are abit steep and the rooms are pretty basic (but who spends all the time in their room!) Also whilst walking around the hotel there is a certain smell of sewerage in some places. Breakfast is geared towards other Euorpeans leaving the English with toast and not very nice cereals! But at dinner, we always found something we liked. The staff were friendly and helpful. With the vast amount of people who dine there they do a very good job. Its true that there are mostly german and french tourists, but the staff can speak good english and the entertainment is set up for everyone. However, please do not let the bad reviews and the downsides in ours put you off as corfu is a beautiful place with lots to do. we stayed for a week and were did something virtually every day...such as going on Captain Homer's boat trip, which sets sail from messonghi river nearly every day. We also went on a day boat trip which took us to 'Paradise beach' from Paliokastritsa which was an organised trip with our reps. We caught a bus just outside the driveway of messonghi beach hotel to corfu town and spent the afternoon shopping for presents and ate at a restaurant with a very pleasant waiter. We recommend going on the underwater boat trip run by Kalypso at the mariner as they take you to see a sealion show. the two villages either side of messonghi beach hotel are messonghi and maoraitika. there are more tavernas, bars etc in the latter place. Every restaurant is very friendly and many have tv's and entertainment. Try Harry and George, turn left out of the drive and it will be on your right after 50-100m. They are pro english and this is where we watched the england matches while we were on holiday and the people were fantastic, funny and very easy to talk with. its a small place but you feel at home, they even showed eastenders before the match! There are many good places and trips to do around corfu and messonghi beach hotel. THANKS FOR READING, WE ENJOYED IT AND ARE JUST TELLING YOU THE STRAIGHT FACTS ABOUT THIS PLACE. Hayley and Max --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Thomas Cook Direct) Thomas Cook - Sunset - September 2005 Opinion submitted in Oct 2005 by : Anne & Graham Cole Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: The hotel was a great dissapointment. Althought it was rated as 3 star on Thomas Cook web page, we found out on arrival that is only a 2 star. the rooms were termed as standard but that was very very basic. 2 beds dressing table built in wardrobe (basic) and a basic shower wc and washbasin room. The food again is very basic. Although there are 3 seperate bars the entertainment is very very poor. Being a family hotel and supposedly designed for young children and families there was little for the children to do apart from the kids club. Again the food was not directed in childrens direction. There was one buffet meal per evening with a selection of cold food. the 'warm' (because it was never hot) food was available but very bland anfd tasteless. The place was alive with mosquitoes and guests were being bitten continually but no mossie deterents were available free from the hotel reception. These could be purchased in the hotel shop. On the last night even the coffee shop ran out of milk so only black teas or coffees were available for guests. The 'Happy Hour' again left room for improvement. This was on a rota basis throughout each bar. It always started 10 mins later then supposed to but finished smack on the hour so therefore a happy 50 minutes only. Even then one guest was charged full price for a beer not buy one get one free. When he approached the manager about this the manager simply shrugged and said it was hotel policy!!! When staff were asked for simply things like extra cutlery they replied sorry no engleesh. Basically this hotel looks great until you get through the doors. It cost us an extra 30 euros to upgrade to a standard room from a basic (which was disgusting) The standard room was really the same as the basic room but painted brighter and lighter and a little more modern. Even then all the light fittings were literally hanging from the walls and ceilings by the cables as the brackets were not fitted correctly. Very scary!! This is not the sort of package holiday we expected from Thomas Cook. the hotel and staff are more like a 50's butlins must have been. Even down to a childrens train ride travelling thoughout the site all day and evening! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic July/August 2005 Opinion submitted in Oct 2005 by : Fiona 34, Mark 36, Kathy 31, Graham 35, Scott 11, David 11, Declan 4. Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: This was our 2nd stay at this hotel and to be honest we only went back for the resort we love it there, we made friends last year and went back to see them again. The hotel is okay for during the day, tho i do think that paying 2.50 euros a day for a sunbed is far too much, and the jardin pool bar where filipos works is ecellent he takes really good care of you and is very friendly just say hey bobby!! At night we ate out several times this year, we found Popeyes to be nice and the rose garden was nice too, but our favourite was Zaks it was to the left out of the hotel and opposite Kids World, the food was absolutely gorgeous, the staff were friendly and helpful, will definitely be going back there. Also for breakfsast, if like us you find it difficult to get up for bread and cheese there is Billys which is on the main road straight opposite the hotel just walk up and its on the right, food excellent and very good prices and Billy is a lovely man. And then theres Kids World, Spiros and his lovely wife Sue, (who doesn't work there but i couldnt leave her out)what can i say we love this place and these people, and can recommend this as THE place for people to go with children of all ages, there is a bouncy castle little tykes toys and a ball pool and soft play area it is a fantastic place not only for the kids but for big kids (adults)aswell, he also does snacks if you get a bit peckish while the kids are playing!! If you go into the village of Messonghi there are several boat trips to go on, but we love Captain Homer, he has two boats and we have been on 3 trips with him, he is competitively priced and he also loves kids he even lets them drive the boat (or lets them think he does or where would we end up!!) the food on his trips is lovely and the wine is too! Overall we love Messonghi (can you tell) and we want others to love it as much as we do, but even if you dont we will still go back year after year. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - July 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Steve Mosley - 37,35,10,6 Resort Rating: No rating Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: We were nervous because we had read a lot of bad reviews and our fears were proved to be justified, in the main. The hotel is predominantly occupied by Germans and it is easy to feel uncomfortable. The entertainment is seemingly geared towards them and as soon as one of the hosts asks if there are any English in the audience, it is either greeted by silence or catcalls. Enough said about that. The room we had was awful. 2 adults and 2 children sharing a room that was no bigger than a prison cell. The bathroom constantly had a leak that meant the floor was always flooded. We tried to no avail to get this sorted. The food was average at best, and at times it felt like feeding time at the zoo especially if you go when the restaurant first opens. Having said all this, there are a lot of pools which helped. These can get busy though. Both our children seemed to enjoy themselves however because there is a lot for them to do. The beach is ok and the boat trips on offer by people approaching you as you lie on the beach are definitely worthwhile. In general, we would never return to this hotel. For the price we paid, we got what we paid for. The majority of the staff were pleasant. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - June 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Michelle, Nathan - 29,31 ,5 ,11 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Hi we have just returned from Messongi Beach Hotel in Corfu and already i want to go back. What a brilliant place, we did not leave the resort all week it was fantastic. The reps were brilliant with any queries you might have or problems. We did not have any. My two children were entertained all day, they have a small childs club for the little ones up to the age of 6 i think. They did a show for everyone at the end of the week. Then for the older ones there was also a club there and an arcade place also. They had a kids disco in the evening for the them, which my daughter loved, i think the whole entire staff must have joined in and were having as much fun as the kids. When this is finished about 9.30pm they have older shows until 11pm i.e. greek dancing. From there you go around the back of this building for a disco until 2am. Happy hour is from 9pm till 10pm so get them in by the plenty. The amount of pools to choose from is 6 at last count all fantastic and very clean. They had about 6 to 7 clubs and entertaintment places you could go in the evening and day. The beach from here is privately owned by the resort and goes on for ages, they have beach bars it is about 2min walk if that from the resort. They also have two shops supplying papers, cigerettes, ornamental items to take home as presents, pool side items. Food i.e crisps, biscuits, sweets, chocolates, drinks bottled water, fizzy pop. The food was lovely and catered for all types and children.... speciality chips and meatballs or different pasta's and potatoes. All delicious! The only downside to the food was the morning breakfast... found it very hard to get up between 7am to 9am. Not alot there really for kids, fruit, toast, cereal. If you do venture outside the complex there are a couple of shops either way, but i have to mention this place.... it was a little english bar (turn right out of the complex and it is about 3 shops up on right side of road)they are lovely. The lady is English, she moved there with her greek husband she has two lovely kids. The food there is typical English food, so if your kids are not very fussed with the hotel food (like my daughter) then take them here. The apartment we stayed in was a 2 bedroom, we had two balcony's one just a bit bigger than the other. These were ideal when one had the sun and you wanted to get in the cool you could retreat to the other which was shaded. The place was very clean, and bigger than expected. The one room had 3 single beds, and the other 2 single beds. Both with cupboards and chairs, equiped with hangers. What i do suggest is if you are flying very early in the morning when leaving here, go to the reception desk the day before and ask if you can keep your room till the next day, This will cost you 30 euro's. They might try and give it to you till 6pm for 25 euro's but just say that you are not leaving till very eary and would like to keep the room on if possible. All I can say is i would go back there in a flash, we had an amazing holiday and would recommend it to anyone even with kids! The rooms were damp, even the beds were damp, and you could smell the sewage in them, it was far worse outside though, wherever you went on the complex the smell was there The restaraunt was like a cattle market every night with everyone pushing and shoving, and the food had one consistency - cold Everything in the hotel was overpriced, at least 90% dearer than in the town as for Messongi town, that was nice little place, and some good bars etc there, one to recommend was Billys Place, about 200 meters up the Lefkimmi road (straight on out of the hotel drive) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Sunset Discounts) Sunset August 2004 Opinion submitted in Sept 2004 by : Jill Delaney- Oldham (34,40,6) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: After reading the reviews for this resort on here i was not looking forward to going on holiday, When we arrived i was pleasently surprised. The complex is lovely, the gardens are spectacular. The rooms are basic but clean the maid service was very good. The restaurant was very busy and i found it quite stressful at mealtimes, as the tables were not always set and you had to try and find clean cutlery. The food was not great, we had pictures of chickens or cows to indicate the type of meat, towards the end this changed but to be honest everything tasted the same and wasn't great. The choice for children also wasn't good and alot of the children were living off chips for thet wo weeks which isnt the best diet. For a lovely breakfast try Maxims- turn right at the end of the entrance lane and its on the right and for evening meals try the Rose Garden which is further up on the left down an alleyway. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic - Aug 2004 Opinion submitted in Sept 2004 by : Mandy Sutton - Camberley (40,39,14,14,12 & 9) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: I too like many other had read really awful reviews but with many years experience decided to wait and make my own mind up - whilst expecting the worst anything else would be a bonus. On first impression hotel looked good and service was good - allocated 3 rooms and given directions to find rooms as hotel site so big. Allocated 3 rooms in the riverside houses. These rooms were very basic and did smell of damp - not surprising as all the bathrooms have drain holes where the water from the shower comes through and soaks the floor and thereby the walls too. That said rooms average size withe new upvc patio doors and shutters. Patio was ok with table and chairs and a sheltered view of the river. All 4 pools were of good size and were well looked after and clean around the site. We favoured the pool over towards the riverside houses because a few more english appeared to be there. The english however were definately in the minority. As previous reviews have said the restaurant left a little to be desired as in it was like a rugby scrum especially with some of the Italians they just pushed in when and where they wanted regardless of others. That said we always found a table for six and our waiter nikos was great always friendly with a smile and nothing was too much trouble for him. The food well you are in a 3 star hotel in Greece - it wasn't too bad variety was ok even though repetitive. Breakfast was the only disappointing meal of the day but was able to make rolls and wrap cake to take out of the restaurant for lunches without ever being stopped or told off. One day all 6 of us took little wrapped parcels out of the restaurant including 6 hard boiled eggs numerous cake butter and rolls - well the Italians sat with a huge pile of bread, ham and cheese and set up a production line and then filled a huge bag with lunch for all the little bambinos! Loads to do on the site, our younger boys enjoyed the battery run jeeps around the site and table tennis was free. Pedaloes and canoes were available as was parascending ringos and the banana boat. Didn't drink at the hotel as found the Golden Beach cocktail bar along the front which had entertainment every night and Cristos was very entertaining along with Captain Costas, they spoke many languages and his catch phrase of Bombastic fantastic elastic became the catch phrase of the holiday. Don't come expecting fantastic rooms or even clean sinks as ours wasn't cleaned for the 2 weeks we were there BUT all that said Messonghi beach was a good holiday friendly staff and good weather. AFTER ALL YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR AND MESSONGHI BEACH IS CHEAP. Final word saved for our Olympic Rep - he was awful never there but with all the excuses. Welcome meeting he told us nothing about hotel and resort as he said it was more fun for us to find out for ourselves! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Sunset Discounts) Sunset august 2004 Opinion submitted in Aug 2004 by : iain hooper - (35,29,10,7) Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: nice place if you are german, italian or french. definately not for the brits. all entertainment is in german and italian. meal times are a real battle, you have to push your way in front of the italians or else you wont get fed. accomodation is very basic, beds are hard and pillows very lumpy with a very damp feel to the mattress and bed linen.maids are very grumpy.resort bars very expensive.nice place to eat out is the three sisters, reasonably priced with very friendly service,we ate there nearly every lunchtime.you will find it to the left at the main road,20yards past taxi rank.very cocos nite club is family friendly and reasonably cheap, lovely cocktails and shots.organized coach trips are very expensive and not worth you wasting your time and money.(5 hours at aqualand cost us £80).blue lagoon excursion total waste of money again this cost £80 and was not worth it. crossing the roads is a real gamble with your life. we will not be going back to messonghi beach hotel.the highlight of our holiday was the coach trip back to the airport! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Cosmos Discounts) Cosmos - August 2004 Opinion submitted in Aug 2004 by : Dean Lycett - Birminham (36,36,11) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: We have just returned from our second holiday at the Messonghi Beach Hotel. Having read reviews on this site we were quite concerned, but if you go expecting a good 3* hotel with plenty to do in an excellent location, you should not be disappointed. We had a bungalow which was great because the children could play safely outside. We had no trouble from ants, mosquitoes or anything else! The room was basic, but had all we needed and was clean on arrival and kept clean by daily visits from chambermaids. The only criticism about the food was that some days it could be a little chaotic at the buffet but the choice and the quality of the food was, in our opinion, excellent. People have commented on this site about children eating nothing but chips. Not sure how that could be as every night there was a choice of two types of pasta, two types of potato (as well as chips), rice and bread as well as all the meat and fish dishes. Breakfast was plentiful - but only continental. We saw people taking stuff away for lunch etc - and never heard staff complaining. The pools are lovely and the hotel grounds are kept beautifully. There is loads of space for the kids to run around safely and access to a large stretch of beach which is sandier towards the river end. We visited Aqualand - which is a must - booked with the local tour operator (turn left outside the hotel and it is on the other side of the road) much cheaper than through British operators.... We also got a taxi to Chlomos - little village in the mountains - cost 15 euros each way but well worth it for the peace and quiet and the amazing panoramic view of both of the island's coasts from the church at the top (follow the little signs). In Chlomos we ate at Sirtaki which has a balcony with tables at the back - with an amazing view you can sit and look at for hours. All in all we had a great week. We were tempted to try and book something else having read the reviews on this site, but are so glad we didnt. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Libra Discounts) Libra Holidays - July 2004 Opinion submitted in Aug 2004 by : Don 42, Kathy 38, Abbie 9, Hayley 7 Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: I too read the reviews before travelling, but don't be too put off. Yes the accommodation is basic (this is Greece) and the prices are high (same all over the EU now) but the location is lovely, the hotel and rooms are clean and the food is not THAT bad! The staff are very friendly and it is safe for the children to play and even though it was peak season it was not overcrowded. Yes it is noisy at night but if you ask to be moved to a quieter location the hotel will try and help. We hired a car and Corfu is beautiful, there is hardly any crime, the sea is crystal clear and the sun shines. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Cosmos Discounts) Cosmos - July 2004 Opinion submitted in Aug 2004 by : Alan (39), Jo (35), Livvy (9), Ellie (6) - Stoke-on-Trent Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: The hotel is in dire need of a refurb. The rooms are very basic - the sort of thing that we were prepared to put up with years ago when holidays in Greece were inexpensive - but not anymore. The rooms have no air-con. They are dark (often the main pendant light is in the corner rather than the middle of the room). There is only one electrical socket which might be nowhere near the mirror or the light (not the best arrangement when the wife's make-up needs trowelling on and her hair needs straighteneing and drying). Beds and furniture would not be allowed in a UK prison due to human rights legislation. Never mind having to put toilet tissue in a bin, just trying to flush the toilets successfully is a nightmare. Availability of hot water for a shower is at best irregular. Having joined the Euro, food and drinks in the resort are at least the same as in the UK (and more expensive in the Hotel). The food is basic but at least there is a choice of main courses (although you have to guess what they are - but pictures of cows, pigs, rabbits and chickens next to the serving dishes at least help to identify the source of the meat). If you want a fried egg or a piece of bacon at breakfast you have to pay for it separately. If you want a cup of coffee and a cake after your evening meal you again have to pay. You are not allowed to take any food out of the restaurant - we saw one unfortunate lady being told off and sent back for trying to smuggle out a peach at night (clearly a heinous crime in Corfu). On some nights the choice of dessert was watermelon or nothing. You are not allowed to bring drinks into the restaurant - even if they have been purchased in the Hotel shop. You have to pay an inflated price for a coke or lemonade for the kids. You have to pay 2.50 euros per day (£1.75 approx)for a sunbed by the pool or on the beach. At least this stops the Germans from hogging all the sunbeds. Good Points: Lots of open space for the kids to run around. Nice location right on the beach. Plenty of daytime and evening activities for the kids - including a nightly mini disco. A little train (free!!) makes trips around the complex at regular times throughout the day. Good playground. Games room. Lots of pools and kids pools. Internet room. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Cosmos Discounts) Cosmos - July 2004 Opinion submitted in July 2004 by : Rob 32, Paula 29, Robert 6, Liam 4 Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: I came across this site a few weeks before we were due to fly, and after reading the reports began to dread our holiday. Upon arriving, we were at first pleasantly surprised. Yes, the rooms are very basic but our room was clean and thankfully bug free! Our first trip to the restaurant was, as described by other guests, awful. The food is truly terrible. The pool area and the beach is lovely although the beach grill bars and sandwich bars are overpriced. The staff are very nice and helpful at all times. Our children were treated really well and had a couple of drinks bought for them and were always being given biscuits and crisps. The hotel does however seem to cater to the Germans and all the entertainment is mostly in their language. Having said that, the singers that were there to 'entertain' us were hysterical! There was a couple in particular that could only seem to sing in 'pub style'. They either didn't know the right words or couldn't make up there minds what language to sing in - probably the most unintentionally funny thing weve seen for ages! The thing that really annoyed us most was the kids club. This was the main reason we booked to go to this hotel and unfortunately it was cr*p. Out of the 14 days we were there, our children went to 6 sessions. It was either cancelled or the rep was on airport duty. On several occassions they were looking forward to certain things, a slumber party for instance, only to be told that it wasn't going to happen. Positive points are all to do with outside the hotel. A must is the Rose Garden - superb food and reasonably priced. Another must is Maxims Brunch Bar - again lovely food and reasonable price. We also had a lovely meal at Dolce Vita Pizza Bar. Also, as the kids club is so poor, a visit to Monkey Business is essential. Take the first right after leaving the hotel and walk straight down. Lovely people with a huge safe play area run by a fully qualified pre-school teacher. Would definately go back to Greece but not to Messonghi Beach Hotel. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Sunset Discounts) Sunset - July 2004 Opinion submitted in July 2004 by : Natalie Merrey - Northampton (21) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: Although the hotel was impressive on first sight, the grounds were immaculate and all of the public areas were clean and tidy. The staff were very friendly and with four main pools you didnt feel too crowded. However the accomodation leaves much too be desired with no air conditioning we constantly felt hot and sweaty, the balcony doors had to be left open and so mosquitos came into the room in their droves even though we did have a mosquito plug in our room. The beds were so uncomfortable that it was hard to get off to sleep and with only one pillow which was extremely hard and thin we ended up using our beach towels as extra pillows. One of the beds actually broke and on closer inspection it turned out to be a wooden frame with wooden slats not held in place at all!! The maids were smily and friendly although if they took 3 towels away they had a tendency to leave only 1 fresh one!! The food is boring, repetitive and not the best tasting in the world. Some of it is not labeled leaving you to play a guessing game of what it actually is. After 1 week we could stand it no longer and went out into the resort to eat. Food is fairly cheap and there is variety!! The people are very friendly and I would definately recommend very coco and the rose garden for some tasty meals. During the second week of our holiday we were invaded by school parties of both italian and german school children who hogged the swimming pool and made it difficult to get a sunbed. They also favoured staying in the swimming pool until the early hours of the morning and running up and down the corridors banging their doors and screaming at each other throughout the day and night. Peaceful it was not and I've never been to a hotel that allowed parties of school children in before. By far the worst thing about the hotel was the smell of the river which runs down the side of the hotel. Not being able to shut the balcony doors as we didn't want to roast all night long it wafted in on a regular basis and even if we could have shut the doors it came up through the drain vent in the bathroom anyway!!! It was the most vile smell a combination of sulphur and sewerage and made us feel very ill. You could also smell it by the pool as well. Entertainment was provided with a few good shows but the majority of it was aimed at the german tourists. I would say not a hotel for the british and if I went back to corfu again I definately would not be revisiting the messonghi beach. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Thomas Cook Direct) Thomas Cook - June 2004 Opinion submitted in July 2004 by : Amanda Johnston - Manchester (66,42,39,19,18,17) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: The resort of Messonghi/Moratika was lovely. Maxim's was great for English Breakfast and the Rose Garden and Donato's place offered good food and a very warm welcome at a reasonable price. The hotel Messonghi Beach however was terrible. The rooms were very shabby, there was a terrible smell around the hotel, the food was awful. Drinks around the hotel were overpriced (small vodka and coke 5 euro's) and you also had to pay for sunbeds at the hotel pools. What should have been a reasonably priced late deal ended up costing our party of 6 a fortune. The surrounding area was lovely though and I'd definitely go back there. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: Sunstart - June 2004 Opinion submitted in June 2004 by : Bob, Marion - Nottingham 55, 55 Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: Travelled with Sunstart, part of First Choice group expecting a good hotel with plenty of facilities close to the beach. From the very start things started to go wrong. At the airport we had to wait around an hour for the First Choice kiosk to open to collect our tickets even though our flight was checking in. Arrived at Corfu to be driven by taxi to the hotel. The Greek taxi was driven without any regard to conditions or traffic, overtaking coaches and vans on blind bends etc. Arrived at the hotel to be given a room that could only be described as disgusting, the furniture was old, it was musty smelling, infested with ants and mosquitoes, and looked out over scrubland. After returning to reception we joined the queue of people complaining about their rooms and finally we were allocated another room. This was a slightly better room but the sink tap could not be turned off, the light was hanging off the wall, the balcony door would not lock and there were no lights working on the stairs or corridor. The hotel staff then lost our luggage which took over an hour to locate. We had booked a quiet room overlooking gardens, we were now allocated a room next to a childrens playground and in close proximity to a thumping disco which went on till 3 in the morning (not mentioned in the Sunstart brochure). Finally getting to sleep we were woken again by alarms going off and scooters returning to a scooter hire center. As the Messonghi Beach staff could not find us any other quieter accomodation we relocated to another hotel. Peace and comfort at last. Recommendations:- dont fly with First Choice, do not go to the Messonghi Beach if you want comfort, a decent room or peace and quiet. As somebody said to us its like going to a poor Butlins holiday camp. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Cosmos Discounts) Cosmos June 2004 Opinion submitted in June 2004 by : Martin Mitchell - Burton Upon Trent (41, 41) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: The location of this hotel/resort is excellent, 100 yards from the lobby to the beach via gardens and pool area with a beach bar and grill. Staff were very friendly and helpful and were often seen picking up the slightest trace of litter. Downsides to the holiday :- Rooms plus some public areas in desparate need of a refurb, must have been brill when new but now....not so good. The hotel is very popular with the Germans, so much that it felt that we might have been in Germany rather than Greece, this was particularly evident with the choice of foods. This was a honeymoon holiday but neither COSMOS nor the hotel seemed to want to make any effort to show that they knew this was a honeymoon. We did receive belatedly a warm bottle of sparkling wine with a note from the rep saying "all the best for the happy day", we had no fridge so the wine was wasted really. Overall, not happy with the accomadation or with the Tour company. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach - Messonghi Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice may 2004 Opinion submitted in June 2004 by : paul, julie, dominique, brett, sam,,,, 41,41,18,17,19 Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: hi,, me and my family went here in late may 2004,the hotel was clean, althought we were put into two rooms overlooking the pools, the food was discusting, meat, meat and more meat, all in dif sauces, lemon, orange, but mind you, the kids liked it,, well the chips that was, the rooms were very basic, very hard matteress.pilow very hard, over all very poor, although the hotel was nice and clean.thats the good point, mind you, as we went with first choice,we thought we would have a look at there book,????? where was it, in the hotel there were 20 other travel companys ,all with there books, but no first choice, and no rep, never to be found or contacted, but 2 days befor we left we were told that first choice were over the other side of the complex, to late now,i even emailed first choice from the hotel, and still waiting for a reply, the question was, where is our rep, never mind to late now,the food is terible, the bar prices are very high, so if you do go there, it is best to go out for food, out for drinks, and as me and my family, never to be seen there again,i dont mind germans, but when your out numbered 30 to 1 , then world war 3 is a no no, i will never go with first choice again, as they did say that there was not many germans there mostly british, lol, but where were they, and we never seen the rep,but mind you she did put a card under our door once, just telling us what time we had to vacate our room, good points, let me think, sorry theres none about the hotel in general, but walk up the road and the food is great and cheep, also the drinks are half price, if you walk out to the main road, turn left, theres a bar called the la luna, the drinks are very cheep, exp, beer about £1.30, cocktails were only £1.40 and thats with 3 shots of alcohol wow , cheep to get p!ssed sorry there no more good ponts accept, i wont be going back again, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Messonghi Beach / Moriatika Inn - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic holidays - 2004 Opinion submitted in Aug 2004 by : Sarah Martin 45/49/16 Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: The hotel situated next to a seweragw works that is activated at 11.p.m. every eveing !! and is in dire need of a refurb. I would advice anyone thinking of booking here to give it a miss. There are too many other hotels which would be far better and probavbly cheaper. Breakfast literally consists of just bread and jam and a breville like toaster to warm it up on together with juice, tea or coffee. If you want anything else for breakfast you have to pay extra. Evening meals are very very basic, set meals with one starter, a choice of two main meals and a desert. There is a reception desk which is said to be manned 24 hours a day but for the whole of our holiday we never saw anyone in attendance on there. Bins in your room and bathroom are emptied every day but towels and bed linen are only changed once a week. If you want towels changed earlier you only apparently have to ask - this did not happen despite our request. The hotel manager and his four staff try their best to run the hotel as best they can but they simply cannot keep up with the demands of a full hotel. Mellie in the restaurant bless her tries to serve everyone with all their meals - but trying to keep on top of starters, main courses and deserts for people in over 30 rooms is just beyond her. The hotel manager takes your drinks orders at your table for you but you usually dont get these until youre on your main course. Do not sit outside either as you get attacked by wasps - we had to move tables on two occassions. The hotel is situated on quite a busy road and all night long all you hear is scooters, coaches and the noise from the hotel opposite and the bar at the end of the Pantheon. Buy yourself a set of ear plugs, believe me you will not regret it. There is no air conditioning and we wernt offered the hire of a fan or anything. The first few nights are terrible, I got up for two showers both nights to cool down. After that you seem to climatise to the heat in your room. This hotel is run as cheaply as can possibly can be allowed and unfortunately we feel we were let down by our tour operator for allowing people to stay here from the description given in their brochure. The resort itself is very quiet and picturesque. If you like to get out and about see Billy in the hotel bar who will sort out a hire car for you. Getting around the island is pretty easy but the roads are not in very good condition and it can be difficult to get out of third gear due to their twists and turns. There is a really good bus service to Corfu town from Messonghi - we spent a day walking around the street markets. If you fancy a boat trip a definite is to see Homer or Demetri on the Messonghi river just around the corner from the hotel. We went out on the boat for the day and had a fantastic time. Demetri was a great host and we met some lovely people from all over the EU. You get to swim in little coves you cant normally get to and Demetri serves a lovely lunch on the boat with wine and Ouzo flowing as much as you can drink it. This trip is much cheaper than with the tour operator and much more fun and enjoyable. All in all we wouldnt holiday again in this resort in Corfu. We had a holiday on our own without our two children - we feel that if we had taken the children they would not have enjoyed it very much as there wasnt much for them to do. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pantheon Hotel - Messonghi Operator and Date: Olympic - July 2007 Opinion submitted in August 2007 by : Couple - Yorkshire (26, 30) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: We were looking for a chilled out holiday, fairly cheap, somewhere hot and that is exactly what we got. The Pantheon is a 2 star hotel and as long as your expectations match this you won't be disappointed. The rooms were basic but very clean with linen and towels changed every few days. A few of the allocation on arrival bunch moaned that it was too basic, no air-con, no tv etc but what do you expect from a 2 star hotel in Greece? I think some holidaymakers have very unrealistic expectations. These same people were the ones moaning about not getting a full English breakfast included in the price - continental breakfast was included but the full English was available for a small charge. The evening meals were a bit hit and miss for the fussy eaters amongst the guests with only 2 choices each night but we only had 1 meal each which we weren't really keen on. My only main complaint about the food was that even though on our last day we weren't picked up to go to the airport until midnight we didn't get an evening meal - apparently this is to do with Olympic, not the hotel. Late checkout rooms are usually available for just 20 euros and we didn't have to be out of the room until our transfer pick up time. These rooms do go fairly quickly so make sure you sort this out with Lee early in your stay. As noted in a few other reviews, the hotel does run its own car and moped hire shop from the grounds but we weren't disturbed by this at all, even though our room was directly above it. I mean who goes on holiday to sit in their room all day anyway??? All in all we had a good holiday. As a few others have said, the staff do seem to be fighting against the management to improve things for the guests and if the hotel can sort out a few of the more minor things (more sunbeds/ umbrellas, clean up the outside shower area etc) I'm sure this place could get up to the 3 star mark. We'd happily return to the Pantheon with our realistic expectations. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pantheon Hotel - Messonghi Operator and Date: olympic-june 2007 Opinion submitted in July 2007 by : jeff woodward rochdale Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: The Pantheon has lost its shine, the accomadation is basic but reasonably clean. The mattress on the 3rd put up bed was so thin that the blanket was actually thicker than the mattress.. Although the rooms are cleaned every day the sheets and towels were changed twice in the two weeks we stayed there (which was the middle of July), if Poppy the manager says they will be changed don't believe her and keep nagging until they have been changed, she has every excuse under the sun for why they haven't, shame she doesn't match up to the rest of the staff The hotel itself is pretty basic and in need of a major refurbishment, watch out for the broken marble floor in the hallway near the restaurant. The so called breakfast consist of bread and jam with a toaster that Alex the waiter regularly has to drop on the floor to make it work and tea or coffee. Cooked breakfast and cereals are available but at an extra cost (cooked breakfast was 4.50 euro, cereals are 1.50 euro). The menu for half board evening meals are very limited with 1 choice of starter and 2 choices of main course and 1 dessert, tough luck if like me you couldn't eat set meals, you have to pay for anything else. The pool is quite a nice size but filthy, someone has wrote please clean me in the dirt on the floor of the pool at the deep end. The sun beds are free but are available to anyone from any hotel so they get full really quickly. The hotel might not be up to much but the staffs certainly make up for it, Alex and Joanna in the restaurant are great and really helpful. Billy and Melly in the bar are fantastic and totally nuts, say a big WHOOPA to them for us, they totally made our holiday. Billy often puts on films in the evenings or alternatively try the Ozzy karaoke night -great fun even the staff have a go. The hotel is literally 2 minutes walk from the beach which is quite stony near the edge and in places quite narrow (the end near the hotel especially) so I would suggest walking a bit further up the beach for a bit more space and if you want a bit of quiet as the hotels on the front tend to play music. The resort itself is lovely, flat and easy for walking and moritika is a 10-15 minute walk away. The bus stop outside the hotel if you fancy a day in Corfu itself. If you want to hire a car I'd suggest seeing Stephanie in reception who's and absolute diamond and can sort out a vehicle for you cheaper than the rep. If you are going there please can you take any dog and cat leads and collars with you that you have spare as steph also volunteers for an animal sanctuary and they desperately need the help, as at he end of the season the government round up any dogs that don't have collar and destroy them (any other medicines will also be warmly welcomed). If you want to go on any of the further a field day trips there is a place called sabotage on prices in moratika, which undercuts all the reps prices, by at least half. If you want a local boat trip then ask Billy for directions to captain homer. If they brought the hotel up to scratch this would be a fantastic holiday, but the food and the standard of the hotel let it down badly. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pantheon Hotel - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic - 2006 Opinion submitted in December 2006 by : Tony Davis - Solihull (65, 59) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: My wife and I have been holidaying in Messonghi for 15 years usually staying in apartments on the beach. The area is great and the people very friendly. Decided to visit last minute with a half board deal to The Pantheon. The hotel is in a prime position but needs to improve facilities. The staff are fine; however, the pool is dirty and not cleaned to the standards one would expect. The breakfast consists of toast and jam, rooms are cleaned daily but the first towel and bed linen change was after 5 days. There was no air conditioning or fridge; however, a fridge or fan could be hired at a cost. Veggie meals consisted of, it seems, powdered mash and vegetables. A request for chips was refused although after a complaint they were readily available after the first day. As we commented above the area is a fantastic place to chill out. We love the area so much we have formed friendships with many of the local village people to the extent that I have even learnt the language. So come on Pantheon. Upgrade your facilities. As I said earlier you are in a prime position with good staff. Look at your room service, the breakfast you offer, your evening meals and your pool management. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pantheon Hotel - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic- september 2005 Opinion submitted in Sept 2005 by : Neil and Roz 42,34 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: Spent 11 nights at the Pantheon. The living accomodation is to say the least basic, no air con, fans and portable air con available, but we didn't, because we thought it a tad expensive. The service in the hotel however is excellent. We found the food very good at dinner, but the toast and jam at breakfast became more than tedious. Cooked breakfast is available to buy, we had it once, swimming in grease, strange that it's so bad, as the dinner meals are so good. As we went so late in the season, the resort was very quiet, with some of the bars and tavernas already closed. There was no entertainment as such in the hotel, but although Billy, who runs the pool bar during the day and Oasis bar at night is a caberet by himself. There was a karaoki night with an Ozzy Osborne look-a-like (strange I know) which was a good laugh. We would recommend booking boat trips with "Captain Homer" (Yanni and his English wife Gail) who can be found docked at the quay most evenings. Half the price of booking through rep, and an excelent day out. If you fancy a meal out of an evening, you can't go wrong with Zaks Family Taverna, excellent manu and service, up to main street and five hundred yards on right. Overall, an excellent and relaxing holiday, recommended for couples not looking for the Kavos 18-30 football top noise. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pantheon Hotel - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Thomas Cook Direct) Thomas Cook - August 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2006 by : James Brown - West Midlands (22) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: The resort itself is fantastic. Lots to do for people of all ages. The beach is wonderful, not overcrowded and the water is warm too! Lots of little shops for basic essentials and people are warm, kind and friendly. The hotel is ideally situated a couple of minutes walk from the beach. The pool is extremely clean and is clearly well maintained by the resident joker Billy! The man is an absolute legend despite his haircut! The rest of the staff are very friendly and humorous, especially at meal times. The food itself is of a good standard with generous portions. The room was compact and cleaned every other day. Sky TV, nightly showing of a newly released film and nearby pool bar are other impressive attractions of the hotel. Overall, very impressed with everything and the holiday was fantastic. Would recommend to all and certainly go back again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pantheon Hotel - Messonghi Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic - 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : mr and mrs lornie 47/ 42 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: After 4 1/2 hour delay with fly jet we finally arrived in Corfu. The resort of Messonghi is a quiet resort with everything i.e. shops beach Taverna's all within a minute or two's walk.. Ideal for those not wanting to venture too far and also on the flat so no steep hills to worry about especially for the disabled. No difficulties for wheelchair users here. Plenty of free entertainment going on in all the nearby bars and hotels including Greek nights. The Pantheon hotel is described by Olympic as being set in a quiet and peaceful location. The location is quiet but the hotel is certainly not due to the constant noise of mopeds revving at the car and bike hire situated in the hotel. Our room was directly above this so no chance of peace or quiet sitting on the balcony. The hotel has a lift and is very handy for those with difficulties climbing the spiral stairs. The food at the hotels Mythos restaurant was faultless. The staff were friendly and helpful from the cleaners to the Chef who allowed me to make ice cubes to keep medication cool and also allowed me to store shop bought bottled water in his fridge. The hotel has its own entertainment including Greek night Karaoke live music and video's. The hotel offers to take guests free of charge to their sister hotel in Benitses to use the internet there and also provides transport back when you are finished.. The hotel is spotlessly clean. The pool area is cleaned continuously throughout the day. The steps for the pool are so far apart that it makes it difficult almost impossible getting out of the pool for those with restricted movement in their legs. Now for the real negative. Our beds were unsafe due to the wooden slats not being long enough 3 to 6 inches short so leading to beds collapsing. Husbands bed collapsed twice seriously injuring him in that he ended up in hospital he suffers with Osteoporosis . After second collapse I had too take off all the longer pieces of wood from my bed and put onto his to ensure that his bed was safe and secure. My bed collapsed on a daily basis and was just put back together by the cleaners also on a daily basis. the owner was aware and said that she had brought in longer pieces of wood but I feel that she should have overseen this herself to ensure the safety of the beds and her guests However Beverley was extremely helpful once she realised the seriousness of the injuries caused to my husband and his medical condition. She called the Dr and also contacted Olympic when it was decided that it was in my husbands best interest that we return to the UK early. Overall ours was the holiday from hell with my husband spending two days at the clinic and the rest of the time confined to our room because of his injuries and only venturing down for his evening meal. However we would return to Messonghi just to see more of the resort that we missed out on. We would also stay at the Pantheon again but Beverly has been forewarned that if we do I will inspect the condition of the beds on arrival and insist that they be changed immediately. My advice to future guests inspect the beds and insist that something is done immediately if found to be unsafe. Also report it to your rep and get a report from her. Other than that have a happy holiday in Messonghi I'm sure you will. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Rossis - Messonghi Operator and Date: Star Tours - Aug 2005 Opinion submitted in Feb 2006 by : Niels - Anne-Marie ( 54, 50) Resort Rating: No rating Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: We have been visiting Hotel Rossis in Messonghi 15 times and we are planning to visit this place many times yet to come. Messonghi is a lovely small place with many good tavernas along the beach with very friendly staff. Hotel Rossis is a small hotel with axp. 24 rooms directly on the beach, half of the rooms with a seaview, only 10 - 15 m from the water. The rooms are not that big, but very nice with aircon. The owner, Takis, and his family will welcome you with open arms. If you are going for a sailtrip, we can recommend "Captain Homer" with Yannis or Dimitris. If you are tired of eating in the tavernas along the beach (but why should you) you can go to Moraitika and try "Village Taverna" og to the other side of Messonghi taverna "75 Steps". The last I can recommend, if you want to watch the sunset. Both tavernas with very good views.
