Ipsos Hotels and Apartments A - Z Andreas Studios and Apartments - Ipsos Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic - Jul 2006 Opinion submitted in July 2006 by : Mr & Mrs Harper (32, 30 plus pregnant bump). Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: Accomodation was very basic but clean (ish). Not cleaned every day but overall ok. Shower was small but at least useable. Self catering facilities consisted of one hob, one kettle and a fridge. No toaster or grill facilities, basically couldn't boil more than an egg or have a cup of tea. Very noisy accomodation, was on a ground floor apartment and couldn't open doors as anyone could just walk in (had top taken from balcony on 1st night). Had to have the shutters and french doors closed at night other guests were returning, noisily, from 2.30am to 6.30am each night. We normally holiday in Cyprus - Aiya Nappa, so am used to a bit of noise but this was excessive. Aircon offered but at 30 Euro per week. Pool looked ok but we never used it as there were no umbreallas. And none were allowed at this pool. So, unless you wanted to fry like bacon the beach was best option, where sunbeds and umbrellas were on hire at 7 euro a day (2 beds, 1 umbrella). Pool bar was never open but mini markets were very close by. Hairy Lemon was good stop for breakfast. Just down the road towards the beach from these apartments. If you like a curry, VICEROY, Indian restaurant was very nice traditional made curries. A 10min walk along the sea front towards the small marina. Had to be out of room by 12 midday for a flight more than 18hrs later. Had to walk the streets! Extension available, again 30 Euro, but only till 7.30pm. Which still left 7hrs before pick up and 10.5hrs before flight. With a pregnant wife this was not very thoughtful of Olympic. Voucher for apartments stated 7 nights stay, we only stayed at them for 6 nights. CORFU Airport was a nightmare, queued for over 1hr without moving just to enter the building. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Andreas Studios and Apartments - Ipsos Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic Holidays - June 2006 Opinion submitted in June 2006 by : Lisa & Stuart, (30's) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: We booked our hol at the Andreas and then read the reviews.. we were expecting something awful - but the opposite is true! The appartments are basic (as are most Greek appts), but they were certainly clean, comfy beds and perfect as a base for your Ipsos holiday. The room was cleaned about 5x in the week and the pool was lovely and clean too. The rep, Rachel, (different from last year) is a lovely girl and goes out of her way to be helpful and friendly, as does Andreas himself. As for reviews about the lack of toilet paper - you only get one on arrival and they you buy your own, 2 rolls cost about 40p - hardly the earth! The appartments are in a very good position, only a couple of minutes from the supermarkets and bars and 5 mins from the beach, yet there was no noise at night. The resort is lovely, there are numerous bars and a couple of clubs, we recommend Dirty Nellies and The Old Tree, both on the front strip. Eating out is fab, we found Phevos, about half way down the strip fantastic and ate there most evenings, well worth the 10min walk. The beach is narrow and shingle so take some beach shoes to get from your sun bed to the water! It is peaceful and safe, we left all our stuff on our sunbeds while we wandered off for lunch each day and never had anything taken. All in all a lovely holiday, relaxing in the day, lively at night and highly recommended! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Andreas Studios and Apartments - Ipsos Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic - july 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : paul & chantelle -19,19 Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: Me and my boyfriend have just come bk from staying in the andreas apartments 4 2 weeks, the apartments r very very basic and small, the cleaner came in when she felt like it and didnt do much when she did come in, the shower cubicle was very small and the shower kept overflowing, the bathroom always smelt of drains & we had no toilet paper 4 2 days so we had 2 buy our own. The rep was useless she didnt have a clue wot she was doing, she didnt have any answers 2 our questions when she was there which was not very often. There are thosands of bees around the pool side maybe this was because the pool was never cleaned, there are also thousands of crickets everywhere. Of a night the pool area was never lit up it was always in darkness. In the brochure it says that in the andreas apartments there is a pool side bar which there is but it wasnt open once while we were there so we always had 2 keep going over 2 the shop 4 drinks and 2 restaurants 4 something 2 eat,it also says there is a souvenear shop which there wasnt, andit also said there was a restaurant which there wasnt. I would not recommend these apartments to anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Andreas Studios and Apartments - Ipsos Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic Holidays - 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Stephanie De'Maine - Oldham, Manchester Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Me and Stuart (my boyfriend) booked this holiday as a late deal and thought it was the best holiday we have had so far! The accomodation was very basic but very nice and clean, Andreas himself was very nice and made sure you were looked after properly! - the resort was realy nice quite a few places to eat out - The Hairy Lemon and Dinos was our favorite! there were also quite a few places to go out at night, from bars, pubs, clubs etc..... The Temple bar is a good place to go and the people are so nice - as is Cocoon look out for these places. The beach is nice to go and visit during the day - although it hurts your feet a little as it is a pebble beach so be careful! - Overall i think this place was lovely the people were so friendly and helpful, there are lots of nice places to eat out and to finish your night off on the long strip of bars - i would recommend this holiday to anyone! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Annaliza Hotel Apartments - Ipsos Operator and Date: Thomas Cook - July/August 2007 Opinion submitted in August 2007 by : 7 girls (age range 25 - 32) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: The AnnaLiza staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful. We had a broken shower door which the manager dealt with quickly. Food in the hotel was cheap and tasty. Rooms were clean. Although check-out was 10.30am, we asked the manager and were given one of our rooms to keep until airport pick-up at 5pm, without extra charge. We enjoyed the hotel pool and sun-loungers (and umbrellas). The beach is a short walk away however it is pebbled so wear flip-flops at all times! Would recommend the cheap pedlow hire. Hairy Lemon - good for food. Temple Bar and Dirty Nellies are really good bars, fun and friendly. For those looking for nightlife, Ipsos bars and clubs don't get busy until after midnight and then they are open until 6am. A trip to Cofu Town is good for a few hours of shopping and lots of nice restaurants (20 euro in taxi or there's a glass bottom taxi boat for same price). Would recommend Thomas Cook cruise with beach bbq. Food on the 'Greek Night' is greasy and the free wine tastes like vinegar, however the entertainment is good. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Annaliza Hotel Apartments - Ipsos Operator and Date: Arranged through Coop Travelcare - May/June 2006 Opinion submitted in June 2006 by : KL, CL, SL, JL (45, 44, 14, 11) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Well we booked these on 24th May for travelling out on 26th. Thought we got a good deal at £615 inc transfers, insurance etc (SCatering of course) Flights with Excel which were on time and included meals which were pretty good for airline food. Got to Hotel at about 01:00 and then thought it was all going to go pear shaped. The guy on reception (who we later found out to be called Manoli) was expecting three people and not four. However he instantly said no problem and sorted out an extra bed for us. This 'set the scene' for our treatment at Annaliza. He then said the if he had known we had kids he would have allocated us a room at the front looking out on the pool rather than at the back looking onto scrubland. He loked into this for us and arranged for us to change rooms on the Monday (3 nights into the seven days). He said he would have arranged it for sooner however the apts were fully occupied. As good as his word we moved to the nicer outlooking apts on the Monday. Nothing seemed to much for the staff who we found over the week to be helpful polite and friendly. It was still early season so quite a few bars.restuarants etc werent open but those that were were nice. Food at the bar in the apts was reasonable priced and tasty. (marie who works in the kitchen was very friendly and could occasionally be found on an evening in the bar nextdoor (Cockrel Bar). Places we ate were Dinos - ok for breakfast but not as good as the Hairy Lemon Hairy Lemon - nice food and reasonably priced. Stathis - on the beachfront - ok but only ate here once. Calypso - limited menu but nice surroundings and nice food - Kleftidos were excellent. We tended to end up in the Cockrel bar next to the Apts which was run by Phil (Tottenham fan) and Jo. Good selection of music and drinks very reasonably priced. Also had a selection of games - doms etc for the families to play with. Cant recommend the Annalisa highly enough - basic but then Greece tends to be basic, but lovely people. Would guess that the resort would be buzzing in higher season but for our short stay we enjoyed just how peaceful it was. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Annaliza Hotel Apartments - Ipsos Operator and Date: (Thomas Cook Direct) Thomas Cook - May 2006 Opinion submitted in May 2006 by : David, Lesleyann & Benjamin (35, 37, 7) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: I had broken my ankle at work so was faced with 6 weeks sat at home in the rain, so - I booked this last minute, over the internet and was astounded at how good it turned out to be. The resort was nice and flat, it was almost wheelchair friendly, but most of all, the people just couldn't do enough to help my wife and I. Special mention for the Annaliza Apartments on the Pirgi road...the owner and his staff were brilliant and the apartment complex itself was always clean and tidy and comfortable. Strongly recommend the Hairy Lemon for a good English breakfast and the Stathis Taverna for quality greek evening meals. If you want a boat trip, then don't book with the tour op, go nto find Capt. Homer at the north end of the resort, near to Dino's bar & Taverna. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Antigoni Apartments - Ipsos Operator and Date: Budget Travel - August 2004 Opinion submitted in Sept 2004 by : 25, 26 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Ipsos was a great holiday, we had a fantastic time. I'm even heading back there in a few weeks again! The apartments were basic but very clean and bright. The owners Laki, Dimitri and their dad were fantastic and would do anything for you - even going hunting for my friend's missing towel! I didn't see any bugs or creepy crawlies in the apartment at all, and the balcony doors have a screen door for keeping the mosquitoes out at night - brilliant idea. A good place to eat was Pirgi Place, the restaurant outside the apartments owned by Dimitri. Expect Basil Fawlty-like service (very entertaining!), and try some of the local food. I had the stuffed tomatoes as a starter, it was really delicious. Also, try Phevos at the other end of the strip where Laki works, and the Peking House chinese is to die for (slightly more expensive but worth it). For nightlife, the best places to go are Temple Bar (just for a couple to start off with!), then onto Alcoholics Anonymous. If you're prepared to stay up even later (or earlier!), go to Hector's nightclub which is often open to after 7 in the morning! For a good hangover cure, try Dino's or Temple Bar for the cooked breakfasts - delicious. I wouldn't bother going to Corfu town. It was full of souvenir shops and we were stranded for an hour and a half waiting on a taxi to get home - not worth it at all. If you do want a day trip, book a beach BBQ with Captain Homer (if you book through your rep it's twice the price). The food is gorgeous and the scenery you get to see is amazing. All in all, it was a great holiday if you're young and lively and looking for some fun. Avoid going in August if possible as the place is full of Italians. This may sound good but they're all sleazy gits and hang around in big gangs so it's quite scary, they touch you up and hassle you everywhere you go. That was the only downside to an otherwise fantastic holiday. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Antigoni Apartments - Ipsos Operator and Date: (MyTravel Direct) My Travel - Date Not Specified Opinion submitted in July 2004 by : sam 25,25 Resort Rating: Below Average Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Opinion: arrived very early in morning, apartments looked great from the outside, but unfortunately the inside was a different story. cracked tiles, walls, no bath, communal shower, not good. the best part of the holiday was killing the cockroaches which blocked the doorway every morning. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cactus Studios - Ipsos Operator and Date: Budget Travel - August 2005 Opinion submitted in Sept 2005 by : Aoife, 24 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: The rooms are quite small, but really clean and sufficient for a week. There is no reception but the owner (a little old greek man) is always sitting around the bar at the front of the apartments. Very friendly and very helpful. There is no access to a pool, but its much nicer to sit at the beach, which is right in front of the studios! You can get safety deposit boxes from the travel agent shop next door for ?15 for the week. Which is well worth it. Air con is not included and it can get hot in the morning time when you first wake up. Air con cost ?6 a day. We kept the room on the last day and it cost us ?20. Which you just pay at the bar. The bar never gets full, it does play music, but not too noisy and its decent music. There was probably max 2 people there at any time we walked by it. Nice to sit in though. There is a linen change every 3 days. There is also cooking facilities. The studios are located right across from the stony beach, but its ideal. Its located at the opposite end of Ipsos, away from the bars etc. So its nice to kinda get away from all that...when your going to bed! These studios are perfect, and Im glad we booked them, especially when we compared them to other Budget properties in Ipsos. Would definitely recommend them to anyone who wants to go to Ipsos. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dominoes Apartments - Ipsos Operator and Date: (Kosmar Discounts) Kosmar - May 2005 Opinion submitted in June 2005 by : Julie Jones - South Wales (38, 39) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: We have just returned from a fantastic week spent in the Dominoes Apartments and are already planning our return visit next year. The Dominoes are situated in the village of Analipsis which is a 5-10 minute walk downhill to Ipsos, and you therefore get the best of both worlds being able to enjoy the nightlife of Ipsos while staying in a quieter location. There is a small shop next door to the apartments where you can buy most of the provisions you'll need. The apartments plus bar/restaurant/pool are owed and run by Yianni and Effy and throughout our holiday they couldn't do enough to make us feel at home and make sure we had a good time. The apartment we stayed in was a studio for 2 people so small and quite basic (typically Greek) and situated across the road (seconds walk) from the main site, and were a perfect base to enjoy the facilities that the Dominoes has to offer. Beautiful flowers and fruit trees surround the apartments and in the quiet surroundings we slept soundly, probably helped on by the very good house wine Yianni served ( 1.20 euro for a glass of wine and 1.80 euro for the smaller size Amstel)!! The food in the Dominoes restaurant is very good and excellent value for money. Effy makes a great cooked breakfast (4 euro) and there is a huge selection of meals on offer. We had breakfast every day there and also ate there for either lunch or dinner every day. You'd certainly never run out of choice even if staying 2 weeks. The bar is very comfortable with a good range of drinks on offer at reasonable prices. There is a pool table (1 euro a game) which all the kids seemed to be glued to for a week and Sky TV. One of the children staying there with his mother celebrated his 8th birthday while on holidays. I'd mentioned this to Yianni the evening before, and on the evening of his birthday Yianni brings out a birthday cake, complete with the lad's name and candles. It was such a nice gesture and one I know his mother really appreciated, but that's the sort of people Yianni and Effy are. The pool is superb, very large by Greek standards, plenty of sun beds, and a lovely grassed area to lie out on. Watch out for the pool sprays that quite often get turned on in the afternoon and can be quite a shock if you're swimming under them at the time. While staying at the Dominoes walk down the hill for 2 minutes and you'll come to a bar/restaurant called Yamas. I recommend that you try Nouf's (the owner) spit roast chicken and pork (5 euros for half a chicken, chips and salad) which is very good, and don't forget to say hello to Alfie the dog when you pass, possible the cutest dog in Corfu. I can also recommend the Moby Dick restaurant, down in Ipsos. It's about a 15 minute walk, down past the water sports jetty, but they do serve great pasta, and a wonderful hot pitta bread and tzatziki appetiser. We had a most enjoyable dinner there one evening The Dominoes really is a great place to spend a holiday, owned by lovely people, who are always there with a smile and a hello, and all the people who work and live around the area are equally friendly. We had a fantastic week, met some great people, and Dominoes is definitely a place we intend to go back to next year. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eleni hotel - Ipsos Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic - 2004 / 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : 38 Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: accomadation: well here we go,the smell of muste was there as soon as you walked in to the room ,the sheets had cigarette burns in them, the fridge was about 15 years old and the cool box was missing, the curtains were straight out of a 1970s sitcom, the bathroom suite was corroded and the towel rail was missing. i had to wait around for most of the day with no sleep to find out if they 'olympic holidays' would move me.they would but they wanted 100 quid more to move me probably to an exact copie of the eleni hotel .so i moved myself before i collapsed. I moved to the cactus hotel and forked out the extra but it was worth it ,superb accomodation they have spaces free september /october as they would not accept 5 euros a night for quality rooms you think you would expect. 35 euro double room cooking facilities etc.big hello to everyone at tiffanys coctail sports bar for making my respite a little more bearable --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ipsos Beach Hotel - Ipsos Operator and Date: 2007 Opinion submitted in June 2007 by : Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Ipsos beach hotel is located on a main strip , but set back from the main road , The hotel has a walway which is flilled with tree's and orange and lemon tree's too, The hotelhas recently been refurbished to a good standard. The room's are very modern clean and spacious, bathroom consists of a shower cubicle toilet and beautiful modern sink. beds are comfortable and firm. The reception is always clean and tidy , and the staff are very frindly and helpful,Spiros is the evening bartender who is ultra frindly and can speak perfect english. The downside to the hotel for us was that the food was a little too greek, but food is ok if you like meat and poultry dishes and of course salad. Braekfast was more contintental than english but please do try to remember you will be in greece.... Overall the hotel is lovely with helpful accomodating staff --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ipsos Beach Apartments - Ipsos Operator and Date: (Olympic Direct) Olympic - 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : N Scarce 42 43 Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: The apartments were dark and dingy and had a funny smell, the only daylight came through the patio door(it felt like a cell)most of the lights did not work, the water in the toilet ran day and night for the full 9 days of our holiday,my back was bitten and there were no visible insects, so i slept on top of the bed most nights,i'm not sure if the orange water from the shower was an added feature to help your tan! I have never stayed in a greek apartment that listed all items in the room and how much you would be fined if they were broken, no change of sheets during our stay, bins were emptied 3 times during our stay, nice when you put soiled toilet paper in a bin that has a lid that does'nt fit,we had one white(ish) bath towel each, which was not changed during our stay, it was stated a laughable 7,000 euro fine if you dried your feet with the towels, hello! we should have been paid 7,000 euros for risking to drying our feet on them after 9 days! We lived a nightmare the people next door(and most other tenants) rolled in at all hours and swore every other word, when they trashed their apartment at 5am in the morning i sort of understood where the fining list had come from, they made that much noise, i thought they had smashed OUR patio door! The beach is 1 man wide with a coating of dog muck!I was saddened that the resort is geered up to rip you off, dog eat dog basically!we are not prudes, we love a good time and regularly holiday with our daughters who are in their 20's but this was not a typical greek resort,it was an extension of Faliraki, the resort should be 18-30's. We hired a motorbike and found a lovely restaurant up the hill called squirrell,a last a bit of sanity! the food was spot on!we travelled everywhere, corfu is a beautiful island, but Ipsos spoiled the overall picture!after speaking to other travellers at the airport we were informed that we had done well to last 9 days,as the apartments were labelled "faulty towers" and most people insisted on being transferred!Anyway i brought back my memories a week of work ill with tonsilitus!!! The staff are friendly - in our opinion this is a front for the holiday-makers they are fleecing. We had a snack meal late evening when we arrived, and breakfast the next day. We did not eat again at the bar as the food was poor (burger was like a soft stuffing with herbs, crap bacon, crap sausages, hard roll). We would treat the bar as a snack bar, not a restaurant. The drinks were excessively priced. A brandy was a UK single measure for 3 Euros (3* brandy). For 7 Euros you can buy a whole bottle of the stuff in the supermarket - this was mean to the extreme in our view. If you go to Yamas bar down the road you get at least a tripple measure for 2 Euros - much more like it. In my opinion, a better measure at the Lavrion would make for a busier bar, and more takings for the owners. Talking of Yamas, the owner being Nouf - this is a fantastic place to eat and drink. 1 minute's walk down the road towards the town. It's all spit roast, the food is simple, reasonable, and basically brilliant. I have never tasted such good duck. The burgers are hand made, 12oz and amazing! Nouf is a good laugh and entertained us on quite a few occasions. The place was packed most evening, quite a feat in September when most of the bars / restaurants were empty. Back to the appts. We had to ask to move rooms due to the noise from the bar (we were in room 13). Even with the doors closed we were woken up every hour until 5am - not good, if you want that, go to Kavos! We did complain, were told the bar doors would be closed the next evening, they were not. We complained again and managed to swap rooms - which was much better. We heard others had complained, someone had actually left (we did enquire about alternative accommodation), and others were wearing ear plugs. The drains in the rooms smell - we had to buy a bottle of bleach. No plug for sink. The appt accommodation is a bit of a way from the beach up a hill - in the woodland - which made the mozzies a complete nightmare. We had to sleep with the doors closed they were so bad - dozens of bites, the worst in our experience. You only get one loo roll and bring your own towels - the ones supplied are a joke, tea-towel sized & full of holes. Your own travel electric kettle wouldn't go amiss. All you can do in these self-catering appts is make a sandwich or boil an egg. The Squirrel restaurant was good, further down past Yamas, unfortunately they closed in the middle of our holiday otherwise we would have been back. Odyssey restaurant along the strip was good, excellent Mousaka. Toilets not serviced though.. Viceroy Indian, suprisingly run by a welsh couple. Pity they both had stained clothes on, not a good first impression. The food was good and tasty - but we were both ill the next day... Pergi's Place (left at the far end of the strip, past the Hairy Lemon) great food, huge quantity, good laugh with the antics of the waiter, Demitris. Just like Manuel from Faulty Towers. Hairy Lemon - good for breakfast, on the way to Pergi's place. Both are a Looonnnggg walk from the Lavrion. Phevos - middle of the strip, good greek food, good service & only proper ironed tablecloths we came across in 2 weeks.. The resort was very quiet, not much action although this was September. However, we had a meal in Gouvia down the coast and Paleo on the West coast, both were much more lively. Gouvia in particular is more compact rather than a strip, so you wouldn't be walking as much as you do in Ipsos. Top tip of the holiday was to chuck your bread straight on the hotplate for toast - takes a bit of experimenting! The Libra Greek night (44Euros) is 29 Euros if you book in the town.. We hired a car for the duration, booked from the UK (corfusunrise com). Chap arrived as promised 9:30 day after we arrived (I didn't realise this is 7:30am uk time so a bit early on your first day!). 260 euros for 13 days (£170) - excellent value, new car - no problems. We dropped the car at airport. Gregory's Evening boat trip to Corfu Town was fun (10 Euros each). Leaves at 6pm from the harbour, bottom of the hill from the appts. Back at 11pm. Spotless toilets on board. The best coffee of the holiday was a capaccino in MacDonalds in Corfu Town I'm afraid. If you do this trip on a Thursday evening you conveniently miss the Greek Night BBQ at the Lavrion. We did go to the greek night on our first week, but it turned out a rather expensive evening. I'm fed up of the ripped off feeling you get in Greece (Corfu & Rodes) in the resorts. Go off the beaten track & find some of the excellent smaller Tavernas. Corfu needs a facelift, it's beautiful, but run down. No public toilets anywhere. Beware of the rain in Corfu in September - we had 2-3 days of it, serious rain, thunder & lightening. I do not recommend the Lavrion unless you like sitting at a pool for a fortnight getting so drunk that you can sleep through anything - and have sold your house to pay for the bar bill at the end. We definitely won't be back at the Lavrion - a pity, as Yamis restaurant/bar is so good! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lavrion Studios - Ipsos Operator and Date: Libra - June 2006 Opinion submitted in July 2006 by : Tony and June (54,49) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Been back in the UK for two weeks and already booking to go back to these studios in September. The staff at these apartments couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the cleanliness was second to none. The studios were cleaned almost daily by cheery Sophia and the sheets were changed at least five times during our fornight stay. Stathos, Costas and Yannis kept us entertained with great service and friendly fun. Mamma and Pappa were always on hand with cherries and if you asked for a certain type of food it was there for you the next day. The pool area is a good size and has plenty of sunbeds and the pool itself is spotlessly clean. These apartments are in a quiet location yet the resort centre is only ten minutes away so we had the best of both worlds. Ipsos itself has a small beach but the water is perfectly clear and safe for all ages. We hired a boat from Spiros for a few days and travelled up the east coast anchoring in bays for a swim or stopping at a taverna for lunch - BLISS. We would highly recommend these apartments and Ipsos itself has much to offer. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lavrion Studios - Ipsos Operator and Date: (Libra Discounts) Libra - August 2004 Opinion submitted in Aug 2004 by : Gaye Robinson - Kent (46, 50) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Just arrived (today) back from Corfu and must pass on good comments about the Lavrion Studios. Just outside of the 'golden mile' of Ipsos - shops, restaurants and night clubs (10 mins walk from studios) the studios are run by a very friendly family. Nico is a wonderful host seeing to your every need and I am not sure he even sleeps. Bit noisy with the traffic along the road (Italians on scooters) but this is a minor detail, so ear plugs are handy. The rooms are basic but clean and the food at the restaurant is excellent - not a bad meal to be had. Pool is nice size and clean with plenty of free sunbeds. RECOMMENDED. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Magna Grecia Hotel - Ipsos Operator and Date: Libra Holidays Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : Brian Martin 43 Erica Martin 45 Resort Rating: Below Average Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: This was our first holiday on our own without the kids after 19 years, we had high hopes of a nice hotel as it had been rated a 4 star - we were bitterly disappointed - our first room in the annex on the gound floor (right next to the pool) smelled damp,we could not get another room that night and had to sleep with the windows open - a sleepless night with all the noise from the road - cars and moped's tooting their horns all night long. Next day we were moved to an upstairs room in the annex, this room was not much better, very basic old fashioned furniture, the shower was also a problem, every time you had a shower the floor got flooded no matter how careful you were, this had obviously been a problem for a while as the wooden door & door surround was rotten. The quality of food on average was poor and un-appetising, flys could be seen on the desserts. This is 2006 and they still have not got their sanitation problems sorted out, you are requested to put all toilet paper in a bucket!so un-hygienic!!! Resort was quite boring with not much of a nightlife. We would not reccommend this holiday to anyone. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Margarita Studios - Ipsos Operator and Date: Libra - August 2006 Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : Zoe Banfield - Beckenham 28, Richard Solly - Beckenham 28 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Just got back from Ipsos 3 weeks ago, had a really lovely time. The hotel is lovely, rooms are nice, not air conditioned, definatley hire a fan, the views from our bedroom were amazing! When the suns setting it really is fantastic. Ipsos beach was ok, I would advise if you do go to that beach to hire a boat for the day, 60Euros ( its just to the right end of the beach, next to a lovely outside restaurant overlooking the harbour)and you get to see loads, infact we got engaged on the boat trip so well worth it! That beach is next to main road, which may put you off, its quite scary trying to get across to the beach side. We tended to walk to Dassia beach most days which was lovely, full of Italians but very peaceful and relaxing, its about 15 mins walk from the hotel. The Aquapark is excellent would go there if you get the chance - so much to do!! All in all the holiday was really good, food in the hotel was cheap, the restaurants in Ipsos were reasonable and so were the shops! Nice beach but the bars and restaurants were mediocre and most of them were empty or closed as it was late in the season. The Margarita however, was great! Its a medium sized complex in a really peaceful, green setting about 15 min walk from Ipsos itself.Extremely clean, an excellent pool area, plenty of garden with fruit trees, just perfect for the kids. The restaurant served food all day, catered for all tastes and the politeness and warmth of the Vazelakis family, who own and run it, was one of a kind.Frankly, having been into Ipsos once, we didn't go again. We just lounged by the pool, had great food and cocktails at the bar in the evening, or watched a film or footie on the big screen tv in the bar. Although the resort was really quiet, the owners and especially Demitres, and the barmaid Katie were constantly pleasant and helpful. However, it isn't really, it is literally one street on one side of a busy road with the sea on the other side and it takes about 15 mins to walk from one end to the other. We went in the middle of July and it was really quiet, in each bar we went in there was about 5 other people in them if that and that was at about 11pm, when we asked some of the people who worked there why it was so quiet they said it was cos it was change over day so we thought it would be busier the next night but it wasn't. On the couple of nights that we did stay out later (till bout 4am) it did get busier in Shooters and Cacoon bars but still not like we expected. Also no where does any kind of offers like 2 4 1 or 2 for 5 euros or anything like that (cocktails were about 4 euros on average). Also I didn't think (contary to other opinions on here) that there was alot of places to eat and we found ourselves going back to the three places we liked. The Peking House Chinese is nice though. To get into town from the Margarita Studios is abit of a walk and on the first night it seemed like forever but its probably only about 20 mins up and down some whinedy, woody roads. In some places it is really poorly lit and you need to keep in a group to feel safe on your way back which is what we did and we didn't bother with taxis at all. The Margarita Studios are basic but clean and the showers are quite good and well looked after with fans and safety deposit boxes (in reception) to hire for 10 euros each for a week. The towels however are tiny (more like a normal sized hand towel and no way big enough to cover everything!). The pool area is nice with plenty of sunbeds although they are plastic with no kind of cushion so they are quite uncomfortable if your out there all day. The food at the pool bar is also reasonable and ok. All in all we had a good holiday but only cos we made the most of it, the apartments are nice but I wouldn't go back to Ipsos again and if people are thinking of going for 2 weeks-you'll be bored!!!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Margarita Studios - Ipsos Operator and Date: (Libra Discounts) Libra June 2005 Opinion submitted in June 2005 by : Christa Sansom Croydon Resort Rating: No rating Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Margarita Apartments/Studios have an excellent location that will guarantee total rest and relaxation. The Margarita Studios are Excellent, They are very clean and the owners Chris, Dora and Dimitris are the friendliest family ever. They made us feel very welcome and could not do enough for us and everyone else. The food is all home cooked and to an extremely high standard and very good prices a T-Bone steak for 7.50 euros! you cannot go wrong. The apartments themselves are clean and tidy, with all the equipment you expect for self catering apartments. You have a full size kettle and Fridge. A two ring cooker which sits on the work top, to be honest we never used this as we ate out all the time. They do I only supply one toilet roll, this comes with the room on arrival and two Hand towels, this is because it is a self catering holiday and therefor you supply these yourself so take a towel for the beach and a towel for the shower. As for the toilet rolls we bought them they cost 30c from the supermarket in the old village which is situated to the back of the apartments and is very well signposted, this area is not lit so we avoided it in the dark. However the road leading down to Ipsos is Lit with streetlamps and it is very easy to see, and in the dark there is lots of fireflies which is a lovely sight to see. As for going in to Ipsos, I would not recommend it if you have walking difficulties. It is about a 15 minute walk down to the main part of Ipsos and about a 20 minute walk back up as it is uphill. However about mid way there is a bar called dominoes where we stopped off for a drink on the way back. As for the restaurants I can recommend Little Italy, Phoebus and Artemis which are all along the main Ipsos stretch. We found the best restaurant ever on the way down to Ipsos from the apartments, A place called Squirrels. It is very good value for money and the staff are again extremely polite and friendly, If you eat all your dinner here the chef cooks you the best apple fritters for free and they are absolutely gorgeous. Also at squirrels have the homemade wine it is 3 euros for a jug and absolutely lovely. I dont think I can say alot more apart from it is a beautiful country and the fact that the greeks are by far the nicest, friendliest people you can ever meet. As for the Margarita you have to go, We will definately be going back. So Thank you to all at the Margarita, We will see you soon. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Margarita Studios - Ipsos Operator and Date: september 2004 Opinion submitted in Sept 2004 by : 29, 29 Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: we stayed at the margarita studios in September. We were suprised to find that the apartments are so far away from the main resort, the brochure mention 1km but i would etimate 2km. it is also not very good if you want to go out at night a lot as walking back up the very dark hill is a rather scary experience. however if you are a family and want a quieter holiday, with kids by the pool and an evening at the pool bar then is will probably be ideal. the resort is very small so everyone gets to know each other, which is nice. it is clean and comfortable so long as you don't get a room on the ground floor as they have no windows and there is only one exit in and out, making it rather dark. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Margarita Studios - Ipsos Operator and Date: (Libra Discounts) Libra august 2004 Opinion submitted in Sept 2004 by : Steven, Deborah & Emily Simpson (35,35,5) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: The Margarita apartments are set in the hills just under 1km walk from Ipsos. It is owned and run by Chris, Dora & Dimitris Vassilakis whose english language is of a very high standard. The apartments are very clean and the maid comes in every day. The hospitality is second to none, the food is all home cooked by Chris & Dora. It is available from 9 in the morning till 11 at night and ranges from english breakfasts to traditional greek cuisine and is of exceptional standards. The bar (The Barrels) is run by Dimitris, who can't do enough for you, anything you need he will try his hardest to get for you. The bar is well stocked, there is a pool room, 3 current movies every day and also sky sports! The swimming pool is cleaned every day by Chris and there is no fighting for sunbeds as there are enough to go round. Ipsos is 880m downhill from the apartments. There are plenty of bars and restaurants along Ipsos strip but for serious shopping go into Corfu town on an evening. The beach in Ipsos is a pebble beach, but there are plenty of water sports & we hired a speed boat for a couple of hours and cruised up the beautiful coast line which was one of the highlights of our holiday. Another highlight is Greek night with the operators Libra, food, drink, laughter and dance. All for 40 euros each & 20 for the children. This is our third holiday in 18 months to the Margarita apartments and would recommend to couples and families alike. We intend to go back twice next year. Corfu is a very scenic island and to appreciate its full beauty, hiring a car would be an advantage to take in all the beautiful views. We have holidayed in lots of different places and found that the welcome and hospitality of the Corfiot people is the best there is, especially to children. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Margarita Studios - Ipsos Operator and Date: (Libra Discounts) Libra August 2004 Opinion submitted in Sept 2004 by : Gillian -N.Ireland (44,47,15,13,9) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Just returned from Corfu on Monday! Had a really good time. Margarita Apartments are typically Greek i.e basic but very clean. Maid service was daily and sheets were changed twice a week and towels were changed daily.Chris the owner was very helpful and his wife Dora and son Dimitri did the cooking and ran the bar. Excellent pool area with plenty of sunbeds available any time of the day. There were threee movies a day shown which was good entertainment for our teenage boys as well as all the crucial football matches as there is a big screen TV with Satellite. The walk down into Ipsos is not 30 minutes as some reviews would have you believe. It is more like 10 minutes and I am no athlete! It does take a bit longer uphill in the heat of the day though maybe 15mins. Ipsos itself is full of bars and restuarants not many shops so go into Corfu Town at night when its cooler for shopping in the old town or for more trendier designer shops the new town.We hired a car through Libra for 5 days and visited Paleokastritsa.Took a boat trip round the bays and caves, very nice. This is our third time in Corfu and would recommend the Margarita Apts to anyone. Best places for eating out Pyrgi Place,Phoebus, and The Tasty Corner snack bar in Messonghi which we found on our travels one day. People who own the Studios are the nicest people in the world! The rooms are perfect for a self catering holiday, and the grounds on which the hotel is situated is extremely relaxing and the pool is beautiful. The weather at the time we went was extremely hot and I loved it!! The owners are called Cris (the old one) Dimitri (the slick one) and the bar maid is called Christine (the mad one) all of them are a top laugh and don't hesitate to ask them for anything they will sort it for ya! To get to Ipsos centre from the Margarita its about a 20 min walk up and down hills, so if your not the most athletic person get a taxi. On Ipsos promenade its full of restaraunts and bars so there is plenty of choice, it doesn't get bust till about 12am so if you have to persevere till then. Corfu Town is well worth a visit for the shopaholic women but take note it does get very busy! You can get the boat over for about 5 euro which is cheap as chips and takes about 30 mins. Overall I would definitly recommend this resort and apartments! You will feel totally relaxed and rejuvinated after a week or two here. The apartments were a bit dated but were clean and the pool was lovely. The bar was well stocked and the staff helpful, especially Christine, the barmaid. I would agree that the apartments were much further away from the main resort than 1km as stated in the brochure, it was more like 2 miles (at least a 20 minute walk although the views of the surrounding area were fantastic). The weather was very hot (up to 48c)and the fact that the apartments did not have air conditioning was a shame. We did hire a fan which made a bit of improvement in that it circulated the warm air. Ipsos itself is nothing special, just bars/restaurants and tourist shops really. The road running through it is really busy and the only pavement is on the opposite side of the road. The beach looks generally scruffy as most of the litter gets washed up on the narrow beach so lots of bottle tops etc. Having said that though the water was lovely and clear. We spent most of our time snorkelling and saw so many fish - they were even eating bread out of our hands! As for excursions, we usually never book through the reps as they are so expensive so we went to the shops in town but to be honest none of them were interested or were able to give us anymore information so we felt we had no choice but to go through the rep. Aqualand - really enjoyed it, brilliant, worth a visit although it is very busy in July. Corfu Town - Cost 15 euros each(although can take the bus). It is a really beautiful town and the shops are great, much better than the small selection at Ipsos (recommend trying the Kuam Kuat liquor!!) Scuba Diving - We have previously done Scuba Diving before with a PADI diving centre in Cyprus which was much more informative and gave you much more safety info i.e. how to "buddy up" with someone etc (although there were less instructors) at this one there was virtually one on one instruction so they just told you the basics and are there for if anything goes wrong. Saw much more than we did in Cyprus whilst under the water. My only real complaint was that there is a lot of hanging around and no one tells you that you can do a re-dive for an extra 20 euros which we would have done but we did not bring the money. Castaway Cruise - I was quite surprised to hear the bad reviews of this as we really enjoyed it. There were two boats both of which were lovely sailing boats and although admittedly the salad was a bit warm and the orange juice not much good the barbeque was quite nice. Later on in the afternoon a boat pulls up so you can buy ice cream. The snorkelling here was absolutely fantastic, best we've ever done. Word of warning though it is unbelieveably hot and you really cannot get out from under the parasols they give you, unless you do what we did and stay in the water. Overall a holiday is what you make of it and we had a good time but would probably not go back to Corfu. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marinada Apartments- Ipsos Operator and Date: Budget- September 2004 Submitted in Sept 2004 by : Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: Ipsos is a small resort made up of a long strip of bars, restaurants and shops facing a stony beach. The strip is alive and kicking until 5 in the morning, although it was beginning to wind down when we arrived in September. Our favorite bars included Dirty Nellies (see if you can catch a performance by Bad Breath Bill), The Old Tree, The News Bar and Cocoon cocktail bar. For after hours action check out Hectors if you have the energy, the only club worth a visit after 3am. Avoid Havana and their promises of 3 drinks for e5, watered down is what they give you when you are there! All the restaurants we visited were amazing, we had no favourites just choose a menu that suits your party. You HAVE to try a Greek kebab, out of this world and sooo cheap! The beach is great, lovely clear seas with all water sports available; water donuts, speedboat hire, jetsking, paragliding etc. The stones can be a little harsh on your feet so bring good flip flops!Car hire is a must if you want to see the island, a day was enough to see the fabulous coves and inlets of Corfu. Paleokastritsa was a fabulous beach on teh west of teh island, well worth a visit in the car. Many excursions are avaialble but I would recommend visiting the tour operators on the strip rather than booking through your rep, we saved e10 per per person on the excusrsions by shopping around. The water park Aqualand was a let down, very poorly maintained and very inattentive staff. If you really enjoy such outings I would recommend the half day trip, we opted for the full day and were bored by 1.30! The highlight of the trip was scuba diving,a truly memorable experience for only e30. The downside of the trip was our accomodation, very poor standard. Greek accomodation in general is supposedly poor but at the Marilena we received poor all round service. Bins emptied once a week , floor never swept and sheets never changed. The shore absolutely stunk, it was disgusting and never serviced while we were there. The owners pet dog woke us every morning at the crack of dawn showing no consideration for the sleeping guests. The bar closed at roughly 7pm every evening, not allowing guests the opportunity to enjoy a quiet drink before heading out. It seemed we simply arrived, were shoved into an apartment and not thought about again until we left. Not exactly what you want on holiday! In summary I strongly recommend a stay in Ipsos, but would ot recommend staying at the Marilena Apartments. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nautalious Beach - Ipsos Operator and Date: qwarty travel /you travel.com Opinion submitted in August 2007 by : the beards - Leeds ( 54,54,18) Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: just returned from this place after a week. it is the worst hotel we have stayed in it was sold to us as a 4star it is more like a 2. On our second visit Mammas Kitchen was not open due to George being in Canada with his family for a few months, but the first time we went the food and service was excellant. The only down side i feel to the resort of Ipsos is during the months of July & August the Italians take over the place. The pool itself and the snack bar are very well run by the family and all food is fresh and reasonably priced. The complex is situated in off the mail raod so its lovely and quiet with lovely well kept gardens. Its about a 10-15 min walk from the town and beach. Resort: Ipsos is a very friendly holiday destination all bars, nite-clubs and restaurants are located on a srip parallel to the beach. The beach however is not a sandy one, this was good though because you didnt have to deal with cleaning the sand off yourself every time you set foot on it. Temple Bar is a brill pub with plenty of entertainment, Pygri Palace chinese restaurant is a lovely place to eat out in. In general all the restaurants were very good and reasonabley priced. Day Trips: A visit yo Corfu town is a must, we took the water taxi there for our first visit, nothing too special but a nice experience (it cost about 10 euro) however we got the bus the next time and it cost us about 3 euro each for a return ticket. A trip to the Aqua Park is not to be missed, go on release your inner child!! All in all Corfu is a beautiful place to visit, perfect for that relaxing holiday or those wild nites on the town. We definitley will be going back some day soon in the near future! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Valentinos Apartments - Ipsos / Pirgi Operator and Date: Budget - May/June 2005 Opinion submitted in Oct 2005 by : Karen, Kim, Emma - Dublin (18,18,18) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: We arrived in Corfu at the end of May for a good girlie holiday and had a great holiday all round. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment in Valetinos which is more like a house! We had two balconies and the rooms were v.spacious. The apartments are basic but have everything you need. There are 2 pools which are kept very clean. The bar/restaurant is small but nice. Its not expensive and Lea makes the nicest club sandwhich, best hangover cure ever! The staff are so friendly and anything you need they'll go out of their way to help. We found the resort to be very quiet even at night time but that was probably down to the time of season. There isn't a lot to do during the day but for shopping a trip to Corfu town is a must. So many shops so little time! You can get the bus from as little as 80 cent or get the glass bottomed water taxi like we did for ?10 return. For those expecting a lovely sandy beach you'll be dissapointed its too rocky to swim in. But there are plenty of nice resonably priced restaurants along the beach front. There is a fabulous Italian called La Bonnita, just off the strip, the food is the best and its so resonably priced. There isn't loads of clubs in Ipsos we heard you need to go to Kavos or Guvia for that. The best craic we had was in our apartments before we went out with the staff especially Jimmy and Graham! The best clubs are Hectors and Shooters but if your into pubs Temple Bar is good, there's always something on in there. One thing we weren't expecting was the weather it did rain and could get really cold at night time!! All in all we had a great holiday and would love to go back. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Valentinos Apartments - Ipsos / Pirgi Operator and Date: budget travel - 2005 Opinion submitted in Sept 2005 by : Sarah Haslam- Kildare (19, 19, 20, 20, 21) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: The valentino apartments are the best accomodation in corfu. You're far enough away from the town during the day and close enough to stumble home at night. All apartments face onto the pool but those which hold a larger number of people being of the higher quality especially with the jacuzzi bath! The staff are lovely but beware of Billy's 'special prices' which vary from day to day. Food in the resort and in ipsos is reletively cheap but unfortunately everything comes with chips!! The best spots at night are the temple bar and the AA. Watch out for the italians in Hector's! Corfu in August is definitely for the young and lively and ther's no better place to spend it than lazing round the pool in the valentino apartments! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Valentinos Apartments - Ipsos / Pirgi Operator and Date: Budget Travel - May 2004 Opinion submitted in June 2004 by : Ellie - Dublin (25) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Myself and my boyfriend went to Corfu in May. Just picked up a cheap deal for a week. We arrived at the apartments mid-afternoon and the sun was beaming down. There was no check-in/queue at reception, we were just told our room number and that the key was in the door, which was great! The rooms were basic enough but had everything you needed. They were also very spacious. All apartments looked out onto the pool which is a good thing. The staff in the apartments were so nice and couldn't have been more helpful. The bar in the apartments was very cheap - EUR2.50 for a bottle of bud. The snacks/food were also cheap and tasty enough. The weather the last week in May was brill, except for one day when it jsut rained for about 3 hours in the morning - however it was sunny again by the evening. At nighttime it was quiet cold, even indoors in the apartments - I would recommend you bring a cardigan !! The apartments are in Pyrgi and are about a 10 minute walk from the main area. The main area (Ipsos)consists of a shingle beach, restaurants, shops and pubs. The beach isn't great - nice to look at but full of stones. The pubs are ok - a bit quiet in May though. However Dirty Nellies was busy every night and we met a good crowd in there so went back every night as it was a good laugh and the staff were really nice. We tried a good few restaurants but didn't think the food was great. However we eventually found 3 that I would recommend -the chinese on the main strip called the "Peking House", the Greek restaurant (which does all types of food - not only Greek) on the main strip called "Phoebus" and the Italian Restaurant in Pyrgi called Bonita. All in all Ipsos and the Valentinos was a great holiday. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Villa Amedeus - Ipsos Operator and Date: independant sept 2004 Opinion submitted in Feb 2005 by : Tom Baxter Barrow in Furness (37, 32, 17, 16) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: had a wonderful time apartments in a lovely position ,very clean and well maintained. you can find amedeus on the web, they belong to the Temple bar and the owners are very freindly and helpful. best trip has to be captain homers boat trips. excellant value for money and a really wonderful day out. all involved make an effort to make sure you enjoy yourselves. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Villa Sofia - Ipsos Operator and Date: Kosmar - July 2006 Opinion submitted in August 2006 by : Michelle Batty - E Yorks (40, 44, 15, 15) Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: Arrived late at night after being kept waiting on coach for 1 1/2 hours for a transfer of 30mins!! Try harder Kosmar Villa Sofia - what can I say, looks pleasant enough from the outside but beware the apartments leave a lot to be desired - wouldn't even class them as one star! we had two studios and both were of low standard. Every thing was covered in filth, cutlery and crockery was unusable - don't think anyone had ever cleaned them before us. No plugs in sinks, toilet broken, showers did nothing but trickle in both apartments. Bedding, towels and toilet bins changed only once in a week - absolutely disgusting. Furniture old and broken. As you can expect we spent very little time in these rooms other than to sleep. Well sleep as you could on the lumpy pillows which my husband was sure was filled with olives, ha ha!! Ipsos, pleasant enough resort but just one long stretch along the beach so not a lot to keep you amused after a couple of nights. However, the greek restaurants and bars could not be faulted - good food, drink and service. The greek people are as friendly as always and always pleased with attempts to speak greek. One exceptional place was Bar Dimitrius were you were guaranteed a friendly familiar welcome by Dimitrius and Angelic everyday as we stopped off for several ice cold greek beers after lounging at the beach- wonderful. For the youngsters there are several lively bars, including two irish bars - not everyones cup of tea but keeps them amused! As well as several night clubs. Snacks during the day - perfect place was Nibbles were freshly made overflowing baguettes and baps - became our lunchtime retreat from the sun. Still found Corfu to be good value for money (not the Villa Sofia), but will never stay anywhere less than 4 star from now on!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Villa Sofia - Ipsos Operator and Date: kosmar - 2006 Opinion submitted in July 2006 by : mel allen - sheffiled (41,20,16) Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: read previous reviews so was confident accomodaton would be ok. Mixture of bars to cater for all tastes all be it people dont go out till very late. Plenty to do must reccomend day to trip to Albania. With regard to the Villa Sofia very clean excellent pool with bar however a word of warning. In greece the pools are open to anyone. The fact is that approx 3.00pm the pool resembles a 18 - 30 holiday as it is the agreed meeting place for the bar workers pr etc. The rest of the time the location is fab but remember dogs barking etc cockerels sounding off is all part and parcel of the greek experience. One last point is the Airport it is small and can not accomadate all the people so the grass verges outside is the departure lounge. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Villa Sofia Operator and Date: (Kosmar Discounts) Kosmar Discounts September Opinion submitted in Oct 2005 by : David Riddell Bolton Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: excellent apartments only 6 in complex however the pool is open to the general public and is a meeting place at 3.00 pm for PR / Bar People so the pool can at times resemble a 18 - 30 holiday. I cannot recommend Villa Sofia highly enough. Kostas and Sofia cannot do enough for you, and the pool bar is brilliant (open to public if they buy food/drinks- like most pools in the area). You never need to put towels out. There are only 6 apartments - 4 studios and 2 one beds( actually have 2 twin rooms, no need to re-arrange furniture). Ipsos has something for everyone (unless want Macs and PH). Only the shingle beach lets it down, but there are loads of pools and cheap boat trips take you to the most glorious of places to swim and deserted coves.I recommend Captain Homers. I have never had a bad meal in the resort - Greek, Chinese, British whater budget. The bars are really good - some open to 6am if you are still young and able to keep up with the pace. However don't let that put families off. The bars really welcome one and all during the day and evening up to midnight/1am. After that it's up to you but we wandered back along the Pyrgi road to our apartment block (7 mins) calling in at Caramellitos on the way, if we wanted to stay up later. Some of the bars also show movies (before they are out in the UK) - Recommend Caramellitos, Breakfast at Tiffanys, Dinos and Dirty Nellies for either films or sport. For us, staying at a hotel with a great bunch of people makes the holiday even better, we agree with the comments made on previous years by Steve & Jen Burrows whom we met and who were on their fourth year at the Yiannis. Our daughter has already made it clear she wants us to go back in 2007! Ipsos resort is a strip running the length of a beautiful bay, the bars and eateries cater for all tastes & ages, however during the first three weeks of August you might have to dodge the Italian youth on their rental scooters and quads, off road, the ones we met were very polite and well behaved. It is the worst accommodation I have ever stayed in. We were there for a week and the maid only came into our room once to change towels, sheets and empty bins (including the bathroom bin!!) The bed sheets were ripped and the bathroom was tiny with no shower curtain and crawling with ants! The air conditioning is expensive at 42 Euros for a week and it is not very powerful. You can't turn it on when you are not in your room as you need your room key to activate the electricity. The female owner is very miserable and no help if you have a problem. There was no reception, just the pool bar. We complained that our toilet wouldn't flush so she told us we had to lift the toilet systern every time we wanted to flush it instead of getting it fixed! The pool filters were not turned on every day so some days the pool looked so disgusting that no-one would get it. The snack bar only served ice creams and crisps-no hot food- and very few drinks. The pool area and bar were locked at 6pm and did not reopen until 9am the following morning. As the safety deposit boxes were in the bar, you had no access to them after 6pm. The owner left the accommodation after locking up the pool area so there was no-one to see if you had a problem after this time! On the day you leave, you have to vacate your room by 9am (even tho you're lucky to see the cleaner before 9.30) and they were not happy about letting you keep your room on. We were lucky that we had other family there and could use their room to store cases and shower but other people we spoke to had asked to keep their rooms and told they couldn't, even th |
