Alykes Hotels and Apartments A - Z Iberostar Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: Thomas Cook - June 2007 Opinion submitted in July 2007 by : Teresa Jacobs (10 people 16-51 years) Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: We travelled as a party of 10 (16 to 51 years) and had a fantastic time at this lovely hotel. The hotel is tastefully decorated and furnished and kept beautifully clean at all times. The public areas are light and airy with plenty of seating areas. The food was the best we've had at an all inclusive hotel - the quality and choice was vast for all three main meals plus a huge variety of snacks served throughout most of the day. I cannot believe than anyone, even the most picky of eaters, would not find something they liked every meal time. The bars are staffed by very efficient and friendly people and we never had any trouble queuing or obtaining more than one drink per person at a time. The bedrooms are cleaned thoroughly daily and are spacious with plenty of hanging and drawer space and contain tea and coffee making facilities, a small fridge with complimentary bottled water every day and TV showing several English speaking channels (okay, so mostly American news channels) plus BBC World News but who goes on holiday to watch TV?? The grounds are very pretty with plenty of grassed areas if you do not want to be directly by pool. I would have liked a slightly larger pool but at the time we went in June it was not too crowded but I imagine it might be more of a problem during peak summer when more children would be on holiday. The beach isn't very wide but perfectly ample and yes there is some weed growing just on the shore line but once you've waded in a few feet it disappears and the sea is lovely and sandy below foot. The only draw back to this hotel is it's in a very quiet resort with the nearest bars and restaurants a good 15 minutes walk in either direction so if you want a change of scenery it's a walk or a 10 minute taxi ride to Corfu Town. The hotel is on a bus route to Corfu Town and we did travel in by bus once but they do tend to be crowded and the taxi fare is only 10 Euro per cab. Day time activities consisted of the usual water polo, archery, darts, volley ball, football and water aerobics but the animation were just a joy and so friendly (without being pushy) it was hard not to want to join in. The evening entertainment was not particularly thrilling but never boring and as we were such a large party it didn't particularly matter to us. A very nice hotel for a relaxing, chill-out week long holiday but for those staying longer a hire car would be essential in order to get out and about mainly because of the lack of other facilities nearby, but we would certainly return. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Iberostar Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: First Choice - May 2007 Opinion submitted in June 2007 by : Sarah - North Wales (39,38,14,12) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Night flights with First Choice were ok - ex Manchester left on time. Food not great and the film didn't get to the end. Ex Corfu had slight delay. Food better but no in-flight entertainment so my advice would be not to bother buying headsets for the film. The location of the hotel was very good for sight-seeing. A bus could be got to and from Corfu town and from there buses can be got for anywhere on the island. Driving the hire car was easy and although road signs were practically non-existent in the small towns, most main roads lead back to Corfu Town so getting home was easy. The resort of Alykes has a supermarket and Bowling alley and that's it. The disco strip is about 10-15 min walk away but no pavements so be careful. The hotel was very nice. Excellent buffets for all meals with good quality food. Fresh pizzas were really good. Had to pay for branded drinks but local equivalents were fine. Bar staff were a bit surly but restaurant staff were very good. Everything was kept very clean, and our room had a lovely sea view from the large balcony. The room itself was a very good size. The beach was tiny and although the sea is clean there is a bit of grass which can be offputting. You can hire water sports equipment from an independent person on the beach. Plenty of sunbeds but the hotel was not full when we went so could get busy. The pool was freezing, though so only went in the once. The animation team worked hard and scheduled events always went ahead if there were enough people. However, evening entertainment was poor. Would recommend to most people but maybe not teenage girls because there wasn't a lot for them to do. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Iberostar Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: (Thomas Cook Direct) Thomas Cook -October 2006 Opinion submitted in October 2006 by : Sue Sherwood -Sheffield(44,61) Resort Rating: Below Average Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: We had a really lovely holiday. The hotel is set in lovely grounds with the most amazing views. We had a very nice room with a sea view, which was cleaned daily.Air conditioning and a mini fridge(complete with bottled water)are included at no extra charge.the entertainment was quite good, set in the ampitheatre. We participated in some of the daytime activities organised by the animation team. The hotel is quite isolated though,it is situated off a very busy main road, not very pleasant for an evening stroll. We also got very bored with the choice of food on offer,by the end of our two week holiday we were very reluctant to go down for our meals. Also, something i think is worth mentioning is the mosquitos,go prepared to be eaten alive!WE have never had such a terrible time with them on any other holiday. Visit Peleakastritsa,Mouse island,Corfu town and Kassiopi, all lovely in different ways and easily got to by the green bus outside the hotel, and so cheap! All things considered a very pleasant holiday. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Iberostar Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: may 2006 Opinion submitted in January 2007 by : cheshire 43 46 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: we were moved here after our disastrous 1st hotel the blue bay escape and thank god we did escape this hotel.the kekyra golf was brilliant the staff the pool and the beach were all brilliant we stayed here for 2 whole weeks and had many trips into corfu town what a wonderful lovely place the hotel was great the staff always willing to please and so polite the food here was excellent the soups well 2nds was usually on the menu and in the afternoon the pancakes and chocolate sauce were to die for we were so impresed that we have just booked again with some freinds that we met there to return again in may 2007 well done kekyra golf you made what could have been a disaster into one of the best holidays we ever had and look forward to going back. one more thing if you have the cahnce to go here then hire a boat from the gentleman on the beach for the day it was one of the bast days out we had and was also much cheaper than the pre-bookable tours and you can drive it yourself and explore the island - brilliant --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Louis Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - June 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Lucy & Leon - Notts (21,29) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Hotel is stunning, it is huge and immaculate inside and out. Rooms are of a good size and ours was on the ground floor which meant we had a patio area which looked out onto the harbour of Corfu town. The main pool was clean although could do with being extended as rather small but the beautiful gardens make up for it and there are always plenty of loungers. The beach was small but it was very clean. The all inclusive drinks were good, it was self service for soft drinks and beer which was nice also good choice of cocktails at night. The quality of the food was good but repetitive but we did stay for two weeks and there was always plenty of choice. We didn't really watch much of the evening entertainment but what we did see was good and there were always members of the animation team doing different activities all day. There are a lot of Germans at this hotel!! We actually walked into Corfu Town which took us about 40 minutes but we wouldn't recommend this. We hired a car for four days whilst there and out of all of the hotels on the island we thought that the Kerkyra Golf looked the best. All in all we had a great time here and if we ever went back to Corfu we would definetly stay here again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Louis Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - June 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Amanda Taylor - Wirral Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: I would recommend this hotel to anyone that likes peace and quiet whilst they are on their hols. There was nothing that we would complain about. We stayed for a week the food was always nice and warm there was a lot to choose from. The staff at the hotel were friendly. The beach isn't as big as the pictures make out but the gardens are big so you can always find a quiet spot. We sat and watched the cruise ships come in and out which was nice. Our room was very clean and tidy. It was cleaned once a day. We would go back to this hotel. Hopefully next year. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Louis Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: (Thomas Cook Direct) Thomas Cook - May 2005 Opinion submitted in June 2005 by : Nottingham (33,31,3) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: The inside of the hotel and it's gardens are impressive and always clean. The room was nice and spacious with tea making facillities and free bottled water. The maid cleaned the rooms everyday. The kids club was above average and it was nice and quiet around the pool and playground compared to the main pool. The beach was rubbish and a huge disappointment-it's not as big as the pictures in the brochures or on the web. The food was good but not brilliant-we got sick of it by the second week, and the drinks were too sweet. The Animation team consisted of 3 people which wasn't enough and the entertainment was terrible. The highlight of the night was the kids disco which lasted 30 minutes every evening. But even that got boring becasue it was the same songs every night and some were repeated twice! We had alot of early nights! Not all the facillities were complete at the hotel when we arrived. The stage area outside was still being finished and the beach bar was closed. The mini club wasn't finished off properly and there wasn't any umbrella's with the sun loungers until the second week. Lots of work was being done in the first week with workmen everywhere which wasn't very good when you pay so much money for the holiday, you expect things to have been finshed off before the hotel opens in April. There is no resort so if you want to venture out at all you need to catch the bus or a taxi.We caught the bus into Corfu Town alot and it was 60 cents and a taxi back was 8 euro's.We tried to walk into Corfu town but due to the lack of pavemnets, it made it impossible. We also caught the bus to Gouvia and Dassia which was a nice change and there are plenty of shops and taverna's. The bus stops are at the end of the driveway and easy to catch. All in all it was a pleasant holiday but we wouldn't go back, there's just not enough to do. But it's a good base for getting around the island because you are next to the port and Corfu town. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Louis Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Chris - Devon (42, 38, 7, 4) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: A great R&R retreat for all the family. Not much in the way of hotel entertainment, which suited us just fine as the kids were more than happy to spend their time between the pool and beach. The nice thing was that you could move from one to another without having to cart everything with you each time. Plenty of space though, with absolutely breath taking views from the beach. The helpfulness of all the staff and the cleanliness of the hotel also score top marks with us. Couldn't faulst the AI facility here either, with an extensive choice of food and drink throughout the day, which was consistently served to high standards - the best AI hotel I've been to in Europe. Wouldn't hesiate to re-book this hotel, but it's a big world out there and holidays are all about experiencing different things. Having exchanged experiences with other tourists at the airport on the way back though, it would appear we were somewhat spoiled! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Louis Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - October 2004 Opinion submitted in Nov 2004 by : Amanda Yates 38 husband phil 40, Sam 13, Damon 9 Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Had originally booked another hotel in Corfu but having read the reviews on Holidays uncovered changed to Louis Kerkyra Golf after reading the excellent reviews of it. We weren't disappointed, it was wonderful and apart from anything else it was lovely only having a 10 minute drive to the hotel after the plane ride. The room was absolutely lovely and spacious we had two singles and a double in ours to fit us all in, and it is definately worth booking a sea view as we hadnt and when we saw the views out the back we changed rooms and paid the extra at the end of the week, the views of albania and the old corfu town port were quite breathtaking. The sea was beautiful and clear and our two boys took great delight in taking bread from the all inclusive lunch buffet to feed the fish and have them swim all round their legs, we very rarely swam in the pool because the sea was so nice and shallow too which was excellent for our 9 year old who doesnt swim so well yet. The food was really good and they had some great greek dishes which was nice, the entertainment was ok and they tried very hard with only 4 staff providing it, but with only 1 more week to the end of the season it seemed to be winding down, we didnt mind that though as we wanted a relaxing holiday rather than a buzzing one. We did hire a car and had a lovely day exploring corfu, found some lovely little coves and beaches also really enjoyed corfu town, very nice people. If we were to go back to corfu we would definately stay at this hotel again, the staff were lovely, the hotel very smart and clean, our two boys had a wonderful holiday and we made some really nice friends too. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Louis Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: iberostar kerkyra golf hotel. first choice october 2004 Opinion submitted in Nov 2004 by : 45,50,15,14 Resort Rating: No rating Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: No one can fault the hotel accomodation it is spacious, well kept and clean. only downside was having to put toilet paper into a bin as you can't flush it down the loo. We went with first choice. paid a lot of money and came away disapointed. My daughter and her friend could not use the pedaloes as we cannot swim, they are proficient swimmers. they could not take part in archery as it's for over 18's. no archery after the tuesday as one of the team had left, and she had to cover mini club for the kids. the amination team [entertainers] did their best but there was very few organised activities. The evening entertainment by them was fun but amatuerist. the hotel had a singer playing an organ one evening. that was it.not what you expect for a four star hotel. Now the food. No matter what time you ate, it was never hot. there would be at least two or three items that were cold or lukewarm. The first choice rep had taken over the hotel for the week and whilst nice was quite ineffective. The entertainment team were allowed to leave early on the friday. so nothing to do that day. boring when your not leaving the hotel until 10.45pm. The hotel staff although very nice were on close down. I do not recommed anyone to go to this hotel in the october half term week unless you want a quiet holiday and don't mind poor food. the food was more catered for a german market than english one. as it's the end of season, you dont get the faciities that are on offer at otherf times of the year. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Louis Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice - September 2004 Opinion submitted in Oct 2004 by : David and Elaine Edwards Resort Rating: No rating Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: We were releived to read the positive reviews of this hotel after we had booked and can confirm that all the comments are still valid.Dont hesitate to visit if you are looking for a quiet break. The only negative aspect was the evening entertainment which was pretty poor. Its on our list return destinations. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Louis Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: Eclipse - August 2004 Opinion submitted in Aug 2004 by : Sarah Elliott - Northfleet (33, 38, 12, 9) Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Opinion: We had a fabulous time at this hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. We didn't bother going to the evening entertainment, preferring to sit and have a drink in the main lounge or on the terrace, but the children went along - they seemed to enjoy it, it is all put on by the animation team who work very hard during the day to get people involved in the various activities, they didn't drag you up against your will though. We walked into Corfu Town one day - this was a mistake - just get a cab about 10 Euros - it was a long and not too pleasant journey! The food was varied and plentiful, drinks were long and cold, kids were happy and content - I am sure we will return. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Louis Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: (First Choice Discounts) First Choice-July 2004 Opinion submitted in July 2004 by : Rob & Sue- Somerset-(50,49) Resort Rating: Below Average Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: We started the beginning of our holiday excited,as you do. We arrived at bristol airport and proceeded to the bar; vodka and orange and rum and coke in hand we awaited to be called for our flight. Called earlier than expected, only to be left in the boarding tunnel at Bristol "International" Airport, whilst disabled passengers were disembarked from the aircraft. We were finally allowed onboard the Airbus 321 with its leather seats and unexpected leg room. The pilot explained that we had a good tail wind and expected the flight time to be 2 and a half hours. We taxied to the end of the runway and waited for over an hour. The combination of Air Traffic Control and, believe it or not, a passenger left sitting in the bar, meant we returned to our parking spot to await his boarding. He did, we cheered, and took off for a totally uneventful flight. A lightning storm off in the distance over Italy being the only thing to see some time around 2.30am. We arrived to discover an Airport about the same size as a reasonable bus depot! A switched on rep and an air conditioned coach soon had us away to our Hotel. HOTEL Clean, quiet, well presented and well worthy of the 4 stars it has been given. Extremely friendly and helpful, multi lingual staff. Superb food, 3 times a day and with snacks in between! Local variants of all known drinks were dispensed freely and with amazing speed by very friendly barmen. The grounds of the hotel were regularly watered and tended by numerous gardeners, and were very pictuesque. The beach was somewhat narrower than it looked in the brochure, but was never the less sandy and only needed to keep the sea away from the many people sunbathing on the loungers on the grass. The sea was pleasantly shallow, warm and a nice respite from the equally pleasant daytime temperature.( never below 30 degrees ) RESORT Nothing at all. The surroundings, for there is no resort, were what would be called in Australia, the Bush. Though there was a cash machine, a supermarket and numerous local industry spread along the busy dual carriageway at the end of the Hotel drive. Gouvia, just up the road by taxi, made up for this. A great resort. First Choice rep (Lea )for the area was superb, even managing to deliver a local birthday cake at short notice. Corfu Airport hadn't improved in the week we were on holiday, so our return flight began again in a "bus depot" along with hundreds of others. All in all, our holiday was absolutely brilliant, we couldnt fault the hotel in any way, and we would return. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Louis Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: (Thomas Cook Direct) Thomas Cook - may 2004 Opinion submitted in May 2005 by : warner family - ixworth (39,37,15,10 ) Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: We would definately come back to this hotel as it was everything we hoped it would be. It was exceptionally clean and i don't just mean the rooms, i was surprised to see cleaners everywhere, the pool was cleaned every morning too. There was a good choice of food, well cooked. ice cream available throughout the day for the children. lovely gardens to walk your dinner off! bar staff were especially friendly. although the entertainment outside was aimed at the children it was fun especially if you had a few bevviies inside you!lol The walk to corfu town took about 35 mins,a tip: when you go out of the hotel grounds turn left to the end of the road then left again half way along this road on the left is a boat yard, walk through there to avoid the main road which has no path(there was people about but they didn't seem to mind)if you wanted to get a taxi back to the hotel it cost 8 euros but just be aware that if the taxi is a mercedes it will cost 10 euros! if you are holidaying with children take a few travel games with you incase it rains-not much to do otherwise or try bowling (just across the road) i can recommend aqualand-if you like waterparks, great fun ( don't forget you can order a packed lunch to take with you from the reception b4 6.00pm the day b4, it usually consists of 2 sandwiches,a slice of cake,a carton of orange juice, a banana and orange.) I'm trying to think of any negative things about this hotel and quite honestly i can't think of one.( apart from having to wait for over 2 hours to get on the tennis court!) if your thinking of booking a holiday to this hotel - rest assured your in for a fantastic relaxing holiday in luxurious surroundings. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Louis Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: Eclipse - May 2004 Opinion submitted in June 2004 by : Mellina Edwards - Oxted (34, 33, 4, 2) Resort Rating: Below Average Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: We would definately recommend this hotel. We had a 4 bed room which was spacious with nice marble bathroom. The food was better than average with a good choice. All inclusive wine a bit ropey but all in all the hotel is such good value for money you don't mind! The best part of the holiday for us was the "mini club" and kids pool area. It is set together with pool, swings, slide, little tykes climbing frame. The mini club is open for a couple of hours in the morning and afternoon when they bring out picnic tables with colouring, puzzles etc. The kids loved it and you can sit on your sunbed and watch them play! The only negative - there is nothing outside of the hotel save for getting a taxi or cattle truck to Corfu Town. But for just chilling out around the hotel its perfect! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Louis Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: (Thomas Cook Direct) Thomas Cook - May 2004 Opinion submitted in May 2004 by : Phil Parker 46,44 Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: This is of course an Iberostar hotel, it changed after we had booked. The hotel itself is excellent. The rooms are very clean and well serviced every day. The hotel is in it's own extensive grounds, however the actual pool area and the pool itself are inadequate for the size of the hotel, though I believe these are being extended. One excellent feature of the pool bar is being able to help yourself to beer, wine, soft drinks and coffee. The dining room in the hotel is large and in the evening they had the wait at the door and wait to be shown to a table procedure if you didn't go at the start of the session. The food however was excellent, the best we've ever had on an all-inclusive. The entertainment in the evening was minimal, an organist on a couple of nights and the Greek dancers on another. The animation team provided a couple of nights of entertainment, often quizzes. If you like walking, this is not the hotel for you. The hotel is isolated and it takes about 10 mins to walk the length of the small beach in front, and the walk into Corfu town is treacherous along a main road often without pavements. Corfu Town is very charming and we visited it several times, either by bus 60 cents, every half hour or by taxi 8 euros. If you want a relaxing holiday, with good food and peaceful surroundings and not too bothered about long walks, I would recommend this hotel. It overlooks the harbour and it was good watching the huge cruise ships docking every day. Lovely views all round actually. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Louis Kerkyra Golf - Alykes Operator and Date: (Thomas Cook Direct) Thomas Cook - date not specified Opinion submitted in June 2004 by : Sharon Colbourne -Cheshunt (38,37,12,6,71,66 Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: This was one of the nicest hotels we had stayed in.The location with its views accross the bay were beautifull. To the right of the hotel you could watch the ships sail into corfu port.We were able to do this from our balcony.Definately worth while asking for a sea view. The staff were very helpfull and allways seemed to be cleaning, well the female staff.!!.The food was excellent with lots of choice. We especially enjoyed the fresh fruit and salads.Tastes better when someone else prepares it for you.The children( and adults)were able to join in with activities ,but there was no pressure to do so.My 6 yr old loves dancing so the evening disco was a hit with him .you could ,however just relax in the bar if shows and disco is not for you.The reps did an ok job of the evening entertainment, considering they were catering for different nationalities and were not professional entertainers. Our only complaint was the weather ! .It rained 3 days and had'nt rained in june for 65 years !We also found our Thomas Cook rep to be quite inaffectual, but thats another story and didnt really spoil our holiday. The hotel is laid back from the main road a few miles from Corfu. There really is nothing much to do in the immediate area(apart from bowling accross the road)but this suited us fine as we just wanted to unwind for a week.Corfu town is great for an evenings shopping and sight seeing.Remember they close every afternoon for siesta(very civalised).Overall a fabulous holiday and we could have easily stayed for another week. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nikos and Nikos 2 Apartments - Alykes Operator and Date: (Portland Direct) Portland Direct - 2006 Opinion submitted in July 2006 by : Mr Stephenson 70, 69 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: We booked up to stay in the Nikos apartments in Alykes. A couple of weeks previous to our holiday we were told we would be staying in the Nikos 2 apartments rather than the Nikos apartments. Nikos 2 is a completley different accomadation situated a couple of minutes away from the Nikos Apartments. Nikos 2 apartments are sub-standard compared to the Nikos apartments we initially booked up for. There is no poolside bar and the apartments did not match the criteria of the Nikos apartments we wished to stay in. I would just like to make people aware of this because we were not given any information about the Nikos 2 apartments and nobody seemed to know they existed, we were just told that we had to stay in them rather than the Nikos apartments we had booked up for.
