Sunny Beach Hotels and Apartments N - Z Neptune Beach - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: World Travel BG - August 2005 Opinion submitted in Dec 2005 by : Peter, 44 and Anika 13 Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Just about everything that visitors to Sunny Beach complain about did NOT happen here. The hotel was excellent, big lobby, big stairs, big hallways, big rooms, big pool. Noise? a couple of bars had music playing till midnight or so. So what! Are you already tucked up in bed? Shut the patio door! It's double glazed and we couldn't hear a thing! Most rooms look out across the beach to the sea. The hotel is on the main beach promenade close to the middle of the resort. People on the promenade can see you by the pool, so what! The mats are free at this hotel and they keep non-residents out. It was August and there were always sunbeds. I think a lot of people went to the beach because it's so close. Best thing? No stupid pool side entertainment or kiddies activities. Some may see that as a negative, I see that as the best thing about this hotel, no screaming kids, no pool aerobics over dodgy sound equipment, no reps trying to get you to enter Mr Tarzan competitions! If that's you're thing, don't stay at the Neptun Beach and spoil it for the rest of us. Also it's not all brits; there's a nice mix of Scandies, germans, bulgarians, russians and a few I couldn't figure out. I went with my teenage daughter and we had a great time day and night. You get warned off the exchange places. If they have the Crown symbol, they're fine. The hotel actually had the worst exchange rate. Sunny Beach has got loads of great little stalls and shops and SO cheap! The people aren't pushy but they do come and say hello and ask you what you're looking for, so what! The restaurants are all quite similiar (were not talking gordon blue here) but a 2 course, very appetising meal with a bottle of plonk and there's change from a tenner! Waiters 'encourage' you to go into their restaurant with a smile and a menu in hand, so what! It's all in good humour. In summary, this is a new resort that seems to have taken the best from the worn out european package holiday destinations like Mallorca and the costas and hit the ground running. I will go again and stay at the Neptun Beach again. I have never said that about anywhere in Europe before. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neptune Beach - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: (Balkan Discounts) Balkan - July 2005 Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : Midlothian 53 , 56 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Hotel modern, spotless, First class service, well fitted out, but no entertainment, plenty food but not to everyone's taste. No beasties. If your into shopping you'll love it, lots of fake named gear. Nessebar is a must 15 levs for a taxi ask for a price first.Try the dolphin restaurant for a good meal and a show, or Khan's tent a good show food not to bad. The weather in july was 88% but rained for 3 days cool at night. 34p for a pint of lager 84p for a pint of becks 34p for real coke, meals are very cheap. We alway's went to Turkey but will now be coming here and to this hotel do not book a 3 star. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Nessebar Beach - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: Balken -July 2007 Opinion submitted in August 2007 by : Tina Greening from 16 to 45 (group of 10) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: On arrivel at our hotel staff were very friendly and helpfull. Rooms were air conditioned, nice and spacious and most of all very clean. Nessebar is an all inclusive hotel but we were not very impressed with the food choices. it seemed like food left over from one day was put out cold the next, including veg and fried eggs!! Still, this didn't spoil our stay one little bit as it was so cheap to eat out. The pool area was quite large but sun beds always taken up with towels from the "you know who". Still, not to worry as this hotel is situated a stones throw from the beach with it's own little walk through. The beach was great, warm sea, golden sands, very nice beach bar with lovely friendly staff. Two beds and parasol if needed was 18 levs all day which works out at about £6.00, BARGAIN!! Special thanks to Dido our barman at the hotel who was absolutely brilliant! Also to Magi and Pedro. Visit Iceberg for a good night out. Rock group plus rock music till 4.00 in the morning. Only thing we all found strange was that you have to pay to use the toilets nearly everywhere you go. Only cost between 30 and 50 stontinkies whih is about 15 pence but just very weird. I personally would definately visit sunny beach again, wouldn't go all inclusive but would like to be in the same area --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Nessebar Beach - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: BALKAN HOLIDAYS - July 2006 Opinion submitted in August 2006 by : s mcintyre 45, 39, 13, 11, 5 Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: went to the nessebar beach hotel in july 2006. we arrived after midnight and shown our rooms which were very nice and we had a pool view.it was quiet (good). had to find our own way around the place as no one tells you anything the staff speak good german,as we found out the hotel had about 99% of germans staying there. the food was geared up for the germans, it was nice i must say, there was plenty of it,they never ran out of anything and it was hot. entertainment all in german very dissapointing. at night the hotel came alive with very loud young germans for 2 weeks, right outside our apartment as the seating bar area was right under the english speaking part of the hotel.they seemed to keep us in this part of the hotel. cleaners are very noisy as well, if you want a lie in forget it they are up and down with trolleys and dont stop speaking to one another from the moment they enter the lobby outside your room. the resort itself was fine and we were only a short walk from the beach.would recommend the beach area. kept ourselves to ourselves and enjoyed our stay. bar and restaurant staff the nicest in hotel. will be going back to sunny beach but it will be another hotel --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Nessebur Beach - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: (Balkan Discounts) Balkan holidays -September 2005 Opinion submitted in Oct 2005 by : Lynda Groves - Wolverhampton 13, 17,18,21,22 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: Would not recommend Hotel Nessebur Beach in Sunny Beach full of Germans who do definitely dont like english tourists. We stayed all inclusive, food was terrible. Undercooked and lacked quality & variety. Security man was definitely a jobs worth never saw him smile. Hotel was very clean and the maids were great. In Sunny Beach there were plenty of restuarants bars etc all very cheap, visit Fat Cats, staff there were brilliant. Visit Club Lazur if you can stand the pace doesnt close till very late in the morning 6am. Bulgarians were very friendly and helpful people. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nessebar Mare- Ravda - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: balkan holidays 2006 Opinion submitted in August 2006 by : andrea 36 louis 38 bryan 15 Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: this hotel was spotlessly clean and the pool area okay, however the entertainmnet was all geared up for german children and none existent at night for adults. nessebar is a half hour walk and ravda is a twenty minute walk. there is absoultuely nothing surrounding this hotel except building work.please, please do not book this hotel if you have teenagers (unless they speak good german or russian!!) there is a water park close by and a free shuttle bus. taxi to sunny beach was 15lev using hotel taxi (about £5) taxis is sunny beach were asking for 40lev got them down to 25lev, so if going book hotel taxi to pick you back up. food in hotel was repetitive and watch the the chicken some days it was raw, loads fresh fruit on offer. one more note when will balkan holidays put the topolov plane out to rest!!!!these planes are a disaster waiting to happen. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nobel Hotel - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: Budget Travel June 2006 Opinion submitted in July 2006 by : Mary Lindsay (48, 45, 20, 16, 16, 15) Resort Rating: No rating Accommodation Rating: No rating My/Our Holiday Review: The hotel is not 4 star. The food is inedible and the staff particularly the Managers could do with some customer service training. The shower overflows on to the bathroom floor everytime it is used. The sofa beds in the apartments kept coming apart. The food in the buffet was inedible, cold and only half cooked. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nobel Hotel - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: Funatics -July 2005 Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : Robert & Agnes Wardrop Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: Hotel Nobel is apparently is a 4* plus rooms are nice and spacious, comfortable beds but rather uncomfortable sofa bed. Pool area nice apart from fumes from Serbian Grill. And quite easy to get a lounger at the pool. It is very difficult to get the cleaner to clean the room! you have to keep going to reception and complaining and maybe eventually she will come and give the room a very qnick lick and a promise. Where the hotel really fails to be a 4* plus is the discusting stuff they serve up as food, cold greasy bones.... chicken lamb and pork all the same whether its lunch or breakfast and often shared with flies. If you've been to Sunny Beach before this Hotel is nearer the Nessebar end of the beach so if you are going for the nightlife best to try to book a hotel nearer to the centre. For the main reason that the taxi drivers are trying to rip everybody off by charging extortionate fares. So if you intend to to take a taxi get a final price for your destination. One driver quoted us 10 leva but when we arrived at the hotel he demanded 10 leva each. HE GOT 10 LEVA end of story! If you do go to this hotel, as I say the rooms are nice, but try to go on a B&B basis and not half board. There is a small family run resturant across the road called memories and their food is very good --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Oasis - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: August 2006 Opinion submitted in June 2007 by : Andrea (35), Mick (35) - Newcastle Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Opinion: BALKAN HOLIDAYS Checked in on time at Newcastle Airport and were not told that the plane had not even left Bulgaria so once into Departures and through passport control, we were told we had a 9 hour delay - great! All we got was a meal voucher for £8 and a very long wait right into the early hours of the morning. Don't know whether to blame Balkan or the Airport staff for not advising us -t he Airport staff were not very helpful at all. Balkan Airways have very old Aeroplanes, they fly (just!) but they are no way comfortable and the meal is just a sandwich and a drink. Alot of people were ill as we had a rough flight, but then again this could have been due tot he amound of drink they had consumed and the amount of sweets and junk everyone's kids had during the delay in the Airport! HOTEL OASIS Lovely hotel, good standard of accommodation and location ideal as central and walking distance for the whole resort, but set back from the major hustle and bustle of the main street of the resort along the beach. Rooms were spotlessly clean and modernly furnished bedroom and bathroom. Maid came in every day. Good wuality air conditioning. Balcony nice and big and pleasantly decorated with flowers. Restaurant was okay. Breakfast was repetitive on a daily basis and people tended to leave the lids off the silver warmers so the hot breakfast food was often cold, but there are plenty of restaurants in the resort which are cheap if you wanted a change. Pool Bar served drinks pretty much 24 / 7 / as long as anyone wanted served. Prices were reasonable but the girls serving tended to keep your change as a tip. Make sure you ask for it back as they are making a killing in what they call "tips" and like the Receptionists, they never smile! Receptionists were helpful with any advice you needed during your stay but did not smile much! Only gripe I had was I had a tummy upset on the last day and asked if I could keep the room until 1pm instead, when our coach was due for the airport, instead of the check out of 12 noon. I was told a big fat NO! The next check ins were not til 2pm and I think they could have easily put our room on the later cleaning schedule, just so I was a bit more comfortable and did not have to wait in the reception area as I was too poorly to go out. SUNNY BEACH Bit like a "hot Blackpool"! Ideal if all you want is the pool or beach, the sun and loads of bars and restaurants. There is no cluture in the resort, you could be in any country and not necessarily Bulgaria! Got a bit bored of all the tacky shops along the sea front, although I must say there are some great bargains to be had. Hated the fact that the restaurants were all great quality and service was good but if you used the loo after your meal, you were charged every time and you got some flack if you refused. A bit of a cheek I think. In the bars also! Shop around for drinks as some bars are very cheal ie a pint and a half for £1, then the more ravey music bars were what you would pay at home. We did see the prostitutes as you got towards midnight but they did were in the background and not making a nuisance. The area around The Cuban Hotel was a bit seedy late at night and we heard of alot of people being pick pocketed. TRIPS Only trip we did was the Gypsy Night. Good fun and meal was nice but only at the far end of the resort so you may be able to get it cheaper if you go there independently and book a table. We only stayed a week and then headed for Borovets in the Mountains for the second week, completely different! NESSEBAR Make sure you don't miss out on a visit here. You can get the local bus for a few pennies there and runs back til about 11pm. Lovely walk around the coastline with some great bars and restaurants but the traditional village feel is so much nicer and prettier than Sunny Beach. The beach is tiny compared to Sunny Beach but was not packed out by tourists. Off to Sozopol for week in June 2007, apparently that is a very traditional part of Bulgaria where the Bulgarians tend to take holidays. I will do an update on that part of the web site after I have been. Fingers crossed! Hotel extremely clean, rooms spacious and cleaned daily ,very nice pool. Lots of building work being carried out in the vacinity of the hotel(ie next door)but we were not disturbed by this at all. The patio door are all doulble glazed in any case. Continental breakfast was fresh and hot, we overheard other english people complaining but we had no complaints at all. All the hotel were very friendly and all spoke very good english with the exception of the reception staff which I found frustrating at times. I used the hairdressers on site and they were described as a "young and dynamic team" they were excellent, infact better than my own stylist at home, very cheap 5levs for a wash and blow dry. We used the doctor/ medical facility one evening at 11.30, very prompt and professional, came to the hotel within 10 minutes. We were very impressed with the doctors, spoke excellent english and were just so helpful. The hotel is a few minutes walk away from the main strip which suited us. We had excellent meals at the following restuarents, Watermill, Caribby,Four Towers and Youona. Khans Tent is a must, we had an excellent evening. Nessabur was not what we expected it to be, far too many stalls selling fake tops, leather goods and that sort of thing. Overall excellent holiday and would definately go back and would probably stay at the Oasis again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Orpheus - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: Balkan May 2007 Opinion submitted in June 2007 by : Moira Robertson Scotland Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Have been to Sunny Beach several times before with my husband and had noticed this small well kept looking hotel on our wanders.Found myself with one weeks holiday to take on my own this May (lieu days)and decided to go to Bulgaria where I would be safe and chose the Orpheus which is small. Great choice! The hotel is very clean and well maintained, staff are friendly and helpful and no queing for meals or shortage of seating in the pool area. Enjoyed it so much have booked for the two of us next June for a fortnight. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Orpheus - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: Aug 2006 Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : Deb Watson - Nottingham (41,41) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: Just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel it's a small family run hotel and it shows, all the staff are very friendly, hard working and extremely helpful. The hotel was spotless and rooms large and airy with great aircon. We stayed half board and found the food was not bad at all and the service by the staff excellent. The pool is small and only waist deep which is excellent for kids, there are about 25/30 sunbeds just about enough for the number of guests. The resort itself is one long road/walkway with shops,bars/restaurants and hotels. All the hotels are accessable for a drink or just a nosey around, some of them well worth a visit!.The beach is 8 miles long clean with a nice breeze and plenty of sunbeds.A Visit to the aquapark is a great day out and you get a free bus there and back. Prices:- Hotel:- Safety Dep Box - 28 Lev Large beer - 2 Lev :-) Taxi:- From/To Airport - 50 Lev Each Way (please note it's no good haggling You won't get it any cheaper)
Resort:- Meal For Two With Drinks About - 25 Lev Drinks:- Large Beer Between 3 and 4 Lev Beach:- 2 Sunbeds and Parasol - 18 Lev Aquapark:- 9 Lev per person kids a little cheaper. The only bad part of our hoilday was the airport wot a shambles on arrival we waited 2 hours for our luggage and so did everyone else! So to sum up, we would defo recommend this hotel to anyone couples and families, the resort was cheap and friendly and we would defo go back. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Orpheus - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: Balkan Holidays August 2006 Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : R+J 53,54 Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: The Orpheus is a small hotel. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms are nicely decorated and very clean. The meals are freshly cooked and tasty but not big portions,(Avoid the sausages-very spicy) If you have a meal out try 'FRIENDS' which is just round the corner from the hotel-a lovely meal for less than £10 a head for two courses and drinks! You also get a nice meal at Billy's Bistro. We were disappointed with the resort however,Very commercialised-worse than Blackpool! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Orpheus - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: Balkan - July 2006 Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : Gren 58 -Maureen 57 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: We returned to this hotel after having an excellent stay last year only to be disappointed. The staff were not as friendly, the food was often undercooked and had to be returned to the kitchen, very limited choice of evening meal. Leftover meat dishes served up in soup following evening. Only omelette if you were a vegetarian. Unfortunately, several of us went down with a 24/48 hour stomach bug after eating in the hotel and we ended up eating out in the evening, as did several other holidaymakers in our hotel. Bar closed at 12 midnight whereas last year as long as guests wished to drink they could. Tried to get a coffee at 12.30 a.m. told not available! Music far too loud - unable to have a conversation unless you shouted to the person sitting opposite you. Loud, swearing rap music played - night and day - not exactly encouraging hotel guests to stay at the hotel bar for the evening. Mainly Bulgarian staff and friends occupied the bar during the evening, and guests went elsewhere. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Orpheus - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: Balkan Holidays - 2006 Opinion submitted in May 2007 by : J. Everything is always spotless and the staff, from manageress to cleaners always have a smile on their face. At breakfast there is the usual continental fare, meat, cheese, fruit, toast etc. Also the chef is on hand to cook an english breakfast for you or any alternative combination you may prefer. The evening meal is from a menu which is changed daily and offers a choice of 2 homemade soups, various salad and rice starters and usually 2 main courses plus desserts. The pool area is excellent and the pool itself, been 1mtr deep is very safe for those with children.Near enough to the resorts bars and entertainment but far enough not to be bothered by excessive noise at bedtime. The resort itself just gets better every year. We`ve already booked for next June/July. Cant wait! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Orpheus - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: (Balkan Discounts) Balkan Holidays - July 2005 Opinion submitted in July 2005 by : Maureen & Grenville Davies (57 & 58) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: We have just returned from a two week stay at the Orpheus Hotel, Sunny Beach, Bulgaria and I would recommend this small friendly hotel to all. We visited Bulgaria last September and came across this small pretty hotel on our walkabout and called in for a drink. The staff were extremely friendly and the receptionist advised that Balkan Holidays were taking over this hotel in 2005 and asked if we wished to be shown around, we accepted and booked for this year immediately on our return. We were not disappointed. The hotel rooms are all of a high standard with en suite bathroom incorporating bath, shower, wc and basin. The hotel staff, without exception, were very friendly. The half board meals hot and of good standard. English breakfast is availabe, as are beans on toast, egg on toast etc., at no extra charge! The evening meal consisted of a daily choice of two soups, salad, and three choices of main course (usually a chicken or beef dish, and choice of omelette), followed by a choice of sweet. The hotel is within less than 5 mins walk of the clean sandy beach. If you like karaoke then I would suggest you visit Tony's karaoke(a few mins walk from the Kuban Hotel) in the shopping square, 15 mins walk away or short "train" ride away. If you fancy a meal out (although Orpheus is half-board - we had an evening meal out) try Captain Cooks Fish Restaurant (steaks also available. Again, a short walk from the Town Square near the Kuban Hotel. Sunny Beach is very clean and has plenty to offer holidaymakers. Drinks and Food are still very cheap (a small beer for less than 50 pence)and a two course evening meal will only set you back between £6 and £10 each and can be less. Needless to say we are going back next year. I cannot stress enough DO NOT change money with either street vendors or the Kiosks along the beach pathway - only change money or travellers cheques in the many hotels offering this service. We witnessed many distressed holidaymakers after being "ripped off" by such traders, despite being warned on the coach journey from the airport that such traders should be avoided. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Orpheus - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: (Balkan Discounts) Balkan may 2005 Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : jill & steve 47,47 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: searched for info about this hotel before travelling - but could find nothing. We stayed at this small but very friendly hotel in May and we liked it that much we tried to book again in September but it's full.(it is situated at the back of the victoria palace) the dining room staff were very friendly and would cook anything for you if you requested it the day before. rooms very clean and comfortable other guests loved it too. alot of building work going on around so it was impossible to enjoy the pool area as there was so much dust around. Bus to Nessabar (3.lv)worth a trip, and then a boat trip back to suuny beach (10.lv). We are staying in chaika beach hotel in sept and not looking forward to it after reading the reviews!! we have however bought an apartment in st vlas so are looking forward to many more holidays in this area --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Palace Hotel - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: Escapades - Sept 2006 Opinion submitted in October 2006 by : Alison and Pat (45, 58) Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: The Palace Hotel is in an excellent position by the beach. It is standard accommodation and the rooms are basic but kept very clean each day and fresh towels every other day. The food again is very standard fare. Breakfast is 8.30 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. and dinner served 6.00 p.m. til 7.00 p.m. It is better to get there at the beginning of each meal to make sure it's hot! We found the resort very disappointing as there is nothing about it that respresents Bulgaria, it is just one long stretch (about 8km) of shops, stalls, bars, shops, stalls, bars etc!!! If you like fake designer gear and fashion jewellery make sure you take lots of money. You can take a little noddy train - well three actually - to get to Nessebar, which is a beautiful little town which does represent the real Bulgaria, but again is spoiled by the amount of shops, stalls, bars etc., but is definitely nicer than Sunny Beach. If you want a disco and dance in Sunny Beach, you will need to like all the modern R&B and dance music as this is just about all you'll be offered, apart from the Iceberg nightclub which offers live bands and heavy rock! Bulgaria is very backward as far as entertainment is concerned, there are some live groups, but mostly expect the keyboard and guitar duo's, especially in the hotels. Happy hour lasts till late in Sunny Beach, but beware, make sure you pay for your drinks before Happy Hour ends or you will be charged full price for them! The meals in the restaurants in Bulgaria are very good and very cheap, and if you want a top class meal in Sunny Beach then I would recommend the Dune Hotel (a big red hotel right on the beach, but don't mistake it for another red building called Heaven). The food was absolutely top class, a starter, main course, desert (the most wonderful Tiramisu I've ever had) and a glass of wine cost approximately £28.00 in total for the two of us! There is also a restaurant called the Dolphin which is right down at one end of the resort (the Palace Hotel end), which puts on two very good live shows which alternate nightly. I found the Bulgarian nationals to generally be rude, unhelpful and very, very surly, unless of course you are buying something and then they verge on the nearly friendly! The customer is always wrong, they could never have misheard or misunderstood you, you are just downright wrong! If you find a friendly, helpful Bulgarian then take a picture of them because they are very rare indeed! All in all, there is not a cat in hell's chance that I would return to Bulgaria or maybe any Eastern Bloc country due to their attitude, but if you like cheap beer (beware the branded drinks like Bacardi, Baileys etc., as they are expensive, stick to the local spirits), cheap meals and dance music then I would recommend it! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Palas - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: may2007 Opinion submitted in June 2007 by : c austin Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: this is the 3rd time we have visited sunny beach ok the hotel is basic but kept very clean yes you do pay 5 lev for sunbeds but this is so you can use any hotel pool w have a 5 yr old who loves it we hav,nt had one bad meal there was plenty to entertain our daughter its not all loud music in this area and its right on the beach i highly reccomend khans tent great for all the family never seen young people been sick on pavements are swearing and very drunk .its a lovely place give the locals a chance the are lovely people --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Palas - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: Balkan Tours - 2006 Opinion submitted in August 2006 by : L Bourke (22) Resort Rating: Below Average Accommodation Rating: Poor My/Our Holiday Review: Please avoid this terrible hotel. We stayed 3 nights before upgrading. You will not get a wink of sleep - the floors and walls are paper thin and the guests are extremly rowdy. Reception staff are rude and couldn't care less. After flushing the toilet in your box-sized bathroom, it makes a howling noise for the next 20 minutes. The shower is a head and wtaer fills the whole floor amking it slippy and dangerous. You can walk from one balcony to another which is obviously dangerous and completely lacking in privacy. You have to pay to sit around the pool - 5 lev per day per person. Rooms are tiny and as mentioned above, you can hardly move in the "bathroom". I am only 22 and could not stand the level of disturbance from the other guests. The are mostly gangs of teenagers with no manners so if you book the Palas, don't expect a relaxing holiday. As for the resort, it's tacky, dirty and dangerous. If you must go, please book at least 4 star. We upgraded to the Grand Hotel which was lovely. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Palas - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: (Balkan Discounts) Balkan - July 2005 Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : Resort Rating: Below Average Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: Went with Balkan holidays July 2005, having stayed there last year in July and had a great time, we went back. The hotel is rated 3 star but i would rate it more near a One/two star. Firstly on arriving at 5am the room over looked the beach and was so noisy it was impossible to sleep, the toliet constantly made loud noises, the next day we changed rooms after several looks from reception staff. At the pool there was no sun lounges left (9am) even though towels were on them and no people. Over the holiday it became clear that people didnt just get up at 7/8am more like 5am just to get a lounger. One day we managed to get a place and was charged 5lv (£2) per bed for the day (everything you have to pay extra for), the pool is always packed as it shared by 3 hotels. In the evenings we went down to the resturant for our evening meal (HB), what a joke! The food is completly full of salt and there is little choice i.e. deserts two different choices. Breakfast was worse if you fancy toast you'll be waiting ages as there is only two standard toasters that take ages to brown the bread. Evening entertainment is rubbish with the same female singer every night, when staying 14 nights it gets really boring. Throughout the second week we had worst problems, on returning to the room at 5pm to have a shower there was no water, the receptionists just shurged there shoulders and said half an hour. At 8pm i was still waiting and had to go to dinner with sun tan cream still on and oil. The staff were unhelpful about this problem and kept making excuses, eventually the truth came out. Bulgaria can not cope with the increase in the number of tourists every night water went off and it got earlier and earlier around 3pm the water would go. It completly spolied the holiday as you had to come in early. Finally if you do go try out excursions such as going up the mountains to see what Bulgaria is really like and visit local villages it is fasinating. In all cant fault sunny beach (spent £200 in 2 week and that was drinking most nights, excursions and paying for sun loungers. If i was to go back which wouldnt be for a few years until the resort has completed all its building work and sorted its various issues i would go to a new 4/5 star hotel and pay the bit extra. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Palazzo Hotel - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: budget travel-july 2006 Opinion submitted in August 2006 by : sally coffey dublin 44,43,18,17,14,12, Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Just back from sunny beach airport leaves a lot to be desired family and luggage separated due to mix up with rep had originally booked majestic hotel and were told four days before departure were transfered to palazzo hotel after arrival at palazzo looked quite nice lovely new hotel nice pool dreadful location surrounded by construction site headed to bar where same round of drinks never had same price increased after each round food was inedible still trying to figure out what type of animal it came from beach located across extremely busy main road so we played chicken to get to beach had to take taxis to center which cost 15 lev each way agree your price before you go anywhere found bulgarians so rude and ignorant nice beach shame about the people food everywhere was totally inedible even restaurants we queued half hour to get in to all in all was a big let down and we will never be back --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Palazzo Apartments - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

At the welcome meeting the next morning we asked the rep for what we beleive to be the bare essensials for a self catering holiday she replyed she would do what she could but it may take up to 3/4 days we said this was not exceptable as we were only there for 7 days. After the first 3 days there struggling with just a frying pan to cook anything in, no dishes to eat out of either just plates we received one thing each day as our holiday progressed eg 1 saucepan, 1 knife, 2 lamps then eventually the all important kettle. When these apartments get fully equipped to a proper standard they will be excellent as the staff there are very good doing the best they can, although saying that we felt the staff were very young and needed someone with more experience to guide them. I must just say a very big thank you to the life guard who did an excellent job in watching over everyone especially as we have our 8yr old grandaughter with us this put our minds at rest. We feel that these being Thomson Holidays
The location of the apartments are not great either as they are in between Sunny beach and Nessebar there is a lot of building work going on around the apartments but very limited facilities eg restaurants and shops, you will have to either get a taxi into resort or get on the small train which travels along the coast. another thing is the pack of dogs which roam the area very much barking at night so take ear plugs if you want a good nights sleep. These apartments will be excellent when everything is up and running properly and fully equipped. There is an excellent lifeguard as our grand daughter had arm bands on he kept an eye on her at all times even though we were in the water with her. The apartments are situated between Sunny Beach and Nessebar. not the best location as there are hardly any bars or restaurants or shops around there. Take extra money for taxis or the small train which runs along the coast. Very cheap to eat and drink you can get a beer for 1 lev approx 35p. Leckonby - North Lincolnshire (36, 37) Resort Rating: Good Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: After booking the holiday, I read terrible reports about this hotel and was expecting an absolute hell hole. On arrival we were pleasantly suprised by a clean comfortable room and a lovely pool. We found the food in the hotel to be adequate and to be honest, the only problem at meal times was the wailing banshee that the hotel employed to play keyboard and sing very badly in English. Maybe it was a ploy to get us to eat up faster and clear off! Some of the staff at the hotel appeared to be a little unhelpful, but I think this may just have been a problem with the language barrier. We stayed in a 3* room but everyone we spoke to staying in 2* rooms said they were disgusting. Our room was cleaned everyday and fresh towels supplied. What I did notice about the hotel was that the areas on view were clean and tidy but other areas weren't so good. The toilet in the foyer was dirty as was the one in the upstairs cocktail bar (though the barman up there was the friendliest person in the hotel and seemed to really enjoy his job.) On two consecutive nights there were problems with very loud guests partying near the pool at 4am and unfortunatly staying in the room next to ours but the hotel staff did the best they could to shut them up. After the second incident they left (I don't know if this was their choice or the hotel managers!) We found our stay in this hotel to be fairly pleasant but it was early in the season and quiet. I suspect that it wouldn't be so nice around the pool and at mealtimes when the hotel is at full occupancy. We would stay here again but only in the 3* accommodation and not during peak season. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Park Hotel Continental - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: (Thomson Holidays

The rooms were very basic and cleaning standards were poor. The ouside balcony was very unsafe for children as they could fit between the gaps in the bottom and get into the next room. The bathroom was very small with the shower over the top of the toilet and a small sink beside it. There was no where to put your towel whilst taking a shower without it gettin wet through. Outside the toilet door was a tiled floor which obviously got wet and was a danger especially for children. The cleaners don't knock on the door before entering in a morning they have their own key and just let themselves in with no warning. The staff sit downstairs in the main enterance with local residents everyday and are very unpolite. As you walk in and out of the hotel they all stop talking and stare at you making you feel very uncomfortable. Food in the hotel is also of very poor standard and breakfast is usually cold as are the drinks. However, there is a mcdonalds outside. The bar in the hotel is very small and there is no entertainment at night. The door which leads into the hotel is a glass door which bangs very loud everytime someone goes in or out of it. At night the staff and local residents sit downstairs in the main reception area and there is a lot of noise from outside the hotel and the bar downstairs (just music from a radio or television - not entertainment). We would definitely go back to sunny beach again as the resort itself was lovely. It has some nice bars and nice people and lots of entertainment for all ages. The hotel we would definitely never revisit as it was more like a hostel than a hotel with very rude staff and was not at all what we had expected. But I have to say this is not true where this hotel is concerned, the rooms we had were clean and the bathroom looked as though it had just been re-furbished no mould or mildew in sight. We were in a room facing the road but all the bars were around the corner so we had a reasonably quiet room, other parts of the hotel had bars across the road playing loud music until about 5am (take earplugs just to be on the safe side). The breakfast in the hotel is ok but do not expect your typical english breakfast. There are lots of reasonably priced places to eat but none as good value as in the hotel. It costs approx £3.70 per adult meal and approx £1.85 for kids for an all you can eat buffet. The food was lovely with chicken, pork and beef with vegetables, potatoes and chips every night on offer for those who like english dishes as well as a variety of Bulgarian dishes if you fancy trying something different. The salads and desserts are also delicious. When we were there hardly anyone used the restaurant for evening meal but I cannot understand why not as I would strongly recommend it. Across the road there is a bar on the beach called Lazur (Laser)the food is very good and very cheap we ate lunch there everyday when we were on the beach. It also has a fairground, nightclub and a swimming pool with water slides as good as a waterpark. You can use the pool for free even if you are not a customer but you have to pay to use the water slides, it costs about 37p per slide or you can pay approx £5 to use the slides all day. My kids were lucky as the pool wasn't too busy they got to use the slides for free all week except for our last day as there was a group of about 40 school kids on holiday all using the slides so they had to pay. I would consider returning to Sunny Beach but only if I stayed in the Pomorie in the same quieter part of the hotel, as this is the nicest part of sunny beach. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Pomorie - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: June 2007 Opinion submitted in July 2007 by : Amanda and Brett and 18 and 19 Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Very Good My/Our Holiday Review: Me and my boyfriend stayed in the hotel pomorie in June, first opinion when got there hotel looked abit shabby, but got in hotel and it was all fine, room was abit small with no aircon but ok, poolside really nice but had to pay for sunbeds, so get a lilo only 2 pound, , beach was amazzzinn with loads of watersports dead cheap(if your in to that sort of thing) the food out there is really nice!! dead cheap so you cant complain, 30p a apint. The flight attendants were rude and useless and found a fly in my in-flight meal on the way home. Anyway we are a lively group game for anyhting so laughed about it cracking jokes. We got on a hot coach, again another dated dangerous mode of transport again we laughed, it soon stopped when we pulled up outside the hotel. It was in the day so when we arrived it was busy but seemed mildly ok outside and around the hotel. We walked in the lobby seemed fine, quite large and cool. Check-in was swift and started walking to our rooms we saw just how bland and old the hotel was. Shock horror the rooms were tiny bright orange faulty sockets and smelt musky. We all said 'we will make the most of it as you do'. It was when the night arrived that we knew it just wasn't what we had expected. Neon lights flashed tatoo parlor, cheap cigs, karoke. Were from lancashire and know blackpool well for a bit off fun but as a brit you wouldn't spend two weeks there but at least your not at risk in blackpool from mozzy's and bad stomach's. Everything is noisy, cheap, dirty. We got back after seeing the most man made unattractive resort ever. we tried to sleep but club lazur the open air disco kept us up until about till 5-6am. About a week had passed we wanted to go home and had coped with bad resort. An 'official hotel taxi' picked us up, he was very nice and took us to neesebar he even said he would pick us up at 11pm, he did then charged us more and unpleasant on the way home, when we realised we left a pair of sunglasses he demanded 30 levs so we could get them back. Then my friend got very ill and ended up on a drip something to do with dodgy food and we only ate in the mainstream resaurants on the main streets, we battled with rude locals, bad food and bad taste in a extreamly cruel person promoting bear dancing. The first night I did not get any sleep at all - not because of outside bar music, but because of loud music and other guests drinking and singing throughout the night in the hotel's Ice Coffee Bar. The corridor was tiled and the room doors had gaps under, so you could hear every sound from the corridor -even someone wearing flip flops walking past. When people were running up and down, shouting etc it was impossible to sleep. The next couple of nights were OK but then there was another noisy night -caused by guests waiting for early morning transfers. I complained to the rep and was advised to ask for a room change. This was done without any problem, I was moved to the 3rd floor at the back overlooking the pool. This room was carpeted and had TV and phone. I mentioned this difference to the rep who was surprised and annoyed that the first room had been allocated as the brochure stipulates these facilities - I had booked on the internet and hadn't seen a brochure. She suggested that I fill in a complaint form and she would take it up with the hotel's management. The next day there was a fridge and fan in my room as compensation. Breakfast in the hotel was more than adequate with a selection of cold meats, cheese, salads as well as cooked food. The waiters were friendly, greeting you with a smile and talking to you. They were continually checking the buffet and replacing food. I had not read any reviews before going, so was surprised to see all the night life etc - certainly on a par with Ayia Napa but cheaper. Restaurants were all very similar in design and menus. The food was never undercooked, and if you wanted it hot you had only to ask. My particular favourites were the Bulgar -next to the hotel, and the Water Mill - about a 5 minute walk on the Beach Road heading to the centre.Costs were under 20 lev for a 2 course meal and 2 beers, a main course was generally around 8 lev (2.75 lev to the pound). The beach was covered with sunbeds and umbrellas, not even room to lay a towel down - not my type of beach. However, a 15 minute walk towards Nessebur just before the river and you had a sunbed-free area which was also popular with nudists. I went on a couple of organised day excursions and found them to be good value at £21 and £26, both including a 4 course meal and drinks. Particularly good and popular was the trip to the Blue Mountains. The resort was popular with all age groups - families, young singles as well as retired people - and everyone seemed to be enjoying the experience, so you should certainly find something to enjoy. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Pomorie - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: balkan july 2006 Opinion submitted in August 2006 by : g mcfadyen - fife (42 ,41, 15, 13 ) Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: arrived thankfully safley, as a familly on our balkan bomber, which had just had a fresh coat of white emolsion inside, no leg room ,no radio, no tv, late 1960s plane, very basic and at times quite scary to be on board , stewardesses are very glum and show no emotion or care they were probably as frightened as we were.Toilets a very definate NO NO, the flight is about four hours long and is very very boring would not fly with this company again. The meal was pretty dismal, bit of ham and cheese, dry cucumber and bit of tomato with a roll and small biscuit, coming back was the same, we usually enjoy the meals not this time we would buy our own if we travelled with them again. The hotel itself was lovely, very clean, maids came in every day and were really nice. In Bulgaria you have to make eye contact, even when you don't want to go into their restaurant, this is a mark of respect and you will find them very friendly if you do, just say no thank maybe later. Beach lovely. Very cheap, we had meal with side salad, garlic bread, bottle of wine for £11.00. Another day we had breakfast (Piccadilly, proper British tea and coffee, fruit pancake (which was huge, english breakfast), watched football (Corner Pub) with more than a few drinks, stayed for a good snack, back to the Hotel, more drinks all for £22.00 !!. Water out of the tap no problem. You have to pay about 20p for toilet in most places but we found most of them very clean. The exchange booths people have written about do not include the Crown booths, they are proper exchange facilities. The other ones are easy to spot cos they dont have a name on them, stay away. Nessebar is very nice, take a boat from Bourgas Hotel, 5 min walk, for £3.00 each, then take a mini train back for about £2.00, well worth it. Prices vary from place to place, most have happy hour. We came back with money which is unheard of !! Wouldn't go back mid September as weather changes and places were starting to shut down towards the end of our holiday and we felt sorry for people arriving. PS massages on the beach are really good and done by qualified staff. Enjoy yourself, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Pomorie - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: (Balkan Discounts) Balkan - September 2005 Opinion submitted in Oct 2005 by : The Melvilles - Inverness (34, 26, 3,1) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: THE AIRPORT On arrival to Burgas Airport they were very quick getting you through passport control and also the luggage came out quikly too, unfortunatley they did not prioratise and put buggies out first so trying to get the luggage of the conveyor belt with toddlers running riot was a nightmare and to add to this there was only about 2 trolleys in the whole airport. The bus journey was fine and they asked for a tip for the driver when getting off so keep a couple of pound coins. THE HOTEL There is 2 parts of the hotel, 2* and 3*, we stayed in 3* part in room 36A. The Bellboy takes your cases up to your room whether you ask him to or not and waits until you give him a tip and as we had nothing smaller we ended up giving him 10levs(not really that much). The outside of the hotel looked horrible, but our room/suite was lovely and very clean, we had a large bedroom with fridge and cot, a living room with tv, a bathroom and seperate shower room and the only bad point was the balcony, neither of the balcony doors locked and there was about 1ft space at the bottom of the balcony and at the side which wasn't very safe. The breakfast on our first morning was terrible, just like a cattle market and nearly everything was done, so unfortunatley we never went back until our departure day when we went at 7am and it was empty and very enjoyable) THE RESORT We were about 15min walk from the resort center, but there is a noddy train that stops right outside the hotel that will take you there for about 6lev(approx £2). Everything was very cheap and there were lots and lots of shops selling everything from dvd's to watches, 6 dvds for 50lev(under£20). There was also plenty for the kids to do from bouncy castles to funfairs and ice-cream. We only had one decent meal there and it was at the Condor garden restaurant. We tried lots that were recommended on holiday uncovered reviews, but we found that no matter where you ate the meat was never cooked so we basically lived of pizza and chips all week. Always keep some stinkies spare for toilets wherever you are, but be warned the toilets outside your hotel room are not for the faint hearted. We went to the much talked about Nessabar and although it was very pretty it was just much of the same again. We also went to the Thursday market by taxi which i would not recommend, we didn't feel safe and they kept an eye on where we had our money. THE BEACH The beach was lovely, very clean, only bad point was there was lots of jellyfish and I got stung by one. The weather was nice and warm, not humid at all and not too hot, just nice and it even cooled down at night. On the whole it was a good holiday, but we would not return as I feel i've been and done it now. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Pomorie - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: Co-op Travel - September 2005 Opinion submitted in Sept 2005 by : Ruby - Staffordshire (41, 35) Resort Rating: Average Accommodation Rating: Average My/Our Holiday Review: My partner and I booked 2 weeks 3 star AOA in Sunny Beach, first 2 weeks of September 2005, ending up in the Pomorie. Initially, we were pleasantly surprised with the hotel, the room was small and very clean but there would have been major problems if there'd been 3 of us - you would not have been able to open the balcony door with the sofa bed in use and there wouldn't have been enough room to do anything. However, the room was fine for just the two of us. We were at the back of the hotel on the top floor and our room was directly at the top and to the side of the stairs - unfortunately, we could hear everyone clambering up the stairs all hours of the night, kids playing football on the stairs (at 3 & 4am), shouting, balling, doors banging, etc. One regular occurrence, at around 4am, was someone stumbling noisily up the stairs, proceeding to bang loudly on her hotel room door yelling "Ange" at the top of her voice. After about 15 minutes, she would give up and toddle off to get reception to let her in - obviously Ange was asleep in a drunken stupor and her mate couldn't wake her up, no matter how loudly she yelled or banged on the door, however, she did manage to wake up everyone else in the near vicinity. Unfortunately, every piece of noise seems to amplify and travel - I am not sure whether this applies to every room or whether the stairwell created a tunnel to amplify the noise just to the rooms situated either side - the music from the pool bar actually sounded louder in our room than it did if you were standing next to the speaker. Anyway, we were out most of the day and we decided that we would just have to drink lots of alcohol in order to block out the noise at night! Breakfast was OK but we only made it down in time about 5 times (having had little sleep the night before and/or being hungover!) There were fruits, cereals, salads, bread, ice-cream, juice and plenty of tea and coffee. Hot food consisted of fried & boiled eggs, ham, frankfurters, beans & other strange looking foods that we didn't try. Obviously, there wasn't a "proper" English breakfast - you are not in England but it wasn't too bad and a lot better than some we heard of. It's a bit of a free-for-all in the restaurant - some people don't have any manners and just push in and there is a toasting machine that you have to queue up for, unfortunately, people stand and put their toast through 2, 3 or 4 times to get it toasted to the right colour, instead of just making do with once and giving someone else a chance. Sunbeds & parasols were 5 lev each and sunbed covers were another 4 lev. If we'd have bought the whole lot every day, it would have cost over a £100 and I don't agree with guests paying for sunbeds when you have already paid to stay in the hotel, so we just bought lilos - far more comfortable than the sunbeds anyway. We didn't find Bulgaria as cheap as we'd heard and we certainly didn't have any trouble spending our money - prices seem to have increased dramatically - we'd heard that the mini train to Nessebar was 0.50 lev in August 2004, which has now increased to 2 lev and the boat (which you are on for literally 5 minutes is 10 lev each, one way). Some people had paid the equivalent of £40 for a taxi from Nessebar to Sunny Beach (10 min drive - if that), you can walk it in half an hour to 45 minutes, it's a nice walk and Nessebar is well worth a visit and is a much nicer place than Sunny Beach. We also paid the hotel about £40 for a safe for 2 weeks which is more than we've ever paid anywhere else. The local beer was 1.80 lev in the hotel bar, which is the cheapest we came across and you got 2 during "happy hour" - 6pm to midnight. My other half was quite happy with the local beer but I like Bailey's, sparkling wine, Guinness & cocktails (usually the dearest on the menu) and we could easily get through the equivalent of £50 a night. We didn't want to stay in the hotel bar all night so we went bar hopping (nearby and in the "trendier" bars on the sea front) and found that a lot of bars excluded things like local & imported beers, wines, spirits and liquors and, of course, they were more expensive the trendier the bar got. I think if you are happy sticking to the local beer and are willing to sniff out all the happy hours and cheap bars (or stay in the hotel bar), you could have a very cheap holiday but, personally, that's not what we like to do on holiday. Another reason for not staying in the hotel bar - too many kids running around unsupervised, causing a nuisance while mum and dad are happily ignoring them and getting slowly sloshed. Toilets in most of the bars and restaurants leave a lot to be desired and ladies - take loo roll out with you. In one bar I had to clean vomit of the toilet before I could use it and there is never any loo roll anywhere. If I hadn't been desperate to go, and a little bit tipsy, I would have walked out. Oh, and you have to pay to go the toilet, just about everywhere, apart from the hotel. The beach seemed really nice a fist but, on closer inspection, it's covered in "fag" ends, empty pop bottles and all kinds of rubbish, including condoms. They clean around the sun loungers at night but don't do the rest of the beach. I've no idea why people can't put their rubbish and fag ends in the bin at the end of the day but, unfortunately, this problem is going to get worse as the resort gets busier and needs addressing locally. We had some very nice food; the restaurants all quite similar really, however, we found the food in the Bulgara, which is behind the Pomorie, exceptional. The "touts" outside bars and restaurants are a complete pain and seem to be more persistent/aggressive than anywhere else, as are the stall holders and beggars. One particular young beggar was verbally abusive, and used to kick and spit at people who refused to give him money. We also did not find many of these "friendly" Bulgarians, in fact, some were just downright rude and intimidating. On the whole, we just felt like we were constantly being harassed and gouged for money. The fake designer gear is still relatively cheap to buy, there are some very good artists and I liked a lot of the local art, unfortunately, I didn't feel comfortable browsing as they were on you as soon as you were in the shop. As for keeping yourself and your family safe and well, keeping your valuables safe and changing money, etc - you should use common sense and caution, the same you would anywhere else. The weather was very cloudy for the first couple of days, then it cleared and was OK for sunbathing for about 7 or 8 days, and the last 2 days consisted of cloud, thunderstorms and downpours. It also goes very cold at night-time, although the flip side is you don't need air con or a fan in September. It seems to me that Sunny Beach, in general, is failing to keep up with the increasing tourist trade/demand somewhat. Prices are going up too quickly and too steeply, and do not correspond to the quality, standards and cleanliness, etc the resort currently offers, and when you also take into account the changeable weather, I think a lot of people will be put off from returning - us included. Despite not being too enamoured with Sunny Beach, we enjoyed our holiday and always will wherever we are - it's a new experience and another place we've visited. I think that if you want a cheap holiday and are happy to stay in the hotel or cheaper bars (although, not for much longer I daresay), or if you are in your 20's and want to go bar hopping & clubbing, etc you'll have a great time and Sunny Beach is the place for you. However, if you've been there/done that and are now looking for something different, maybe a bit of culture, etc - give Sunny Beach a miss. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Pomorie - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: (Balkan Discounts) Balkan - August 2005 Opinion submitted in Sept 2005 by : Burn - Hull (46, 42, 14, 12) Resort Rating: Excellent Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: We upgraded our holiday to Pomorie just a few days before departure after seeing a bad report about a two star hotel. We had originally booked for a two star. Balkan were very helpful and let us change at a very late stage. The hotel is very clean. We had a family room, one front door and two rooms inside. The master room had a massive bed but the room the kids had only had a pull out sofa bed. Not idea for them sharing and not good value for money as we had to pay adult fare for the eldest. We got there about 3.00 am and I must say the noise from the disco opposite was too say the least loud!! We didn't get any sleep. I did wonder what we had let ourselves in for but stick with it, after the first night we got used to it and it never kept us awake again. Just make sure you go to bed after midnight as Extreme bar turn their music down then. All that said we just loved this hotel. The rooms are cleaned every day. Large bathroom, two balconies (family room) and we also got a fridge and tv free as it was a family room. The bars in the hotel are cheap and the food good. You have to pay for sunbeds round the pool so buy a lilo on your first morning and lay on the grassed areas. Happy our starts at 3.00 pm until midnight and if you move from bar to bar you can always find a a happy our until around 4.00 am. We would recommend this hotel and would certainly go back again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Pomorie - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: (Balkan Discounts) Balkan - July 2005 Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : Anne-Marie Peebles (40,39 6) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Good My/Our Holiday Review: We went to Bulgaria as we had heard so many people raving about it and felt we had to try before it joins the EU in 2007. I was very surprised at the standard of Bulgaria. Sunny Beach is a purpose built resort which is very clean and the hotels are of a very high standard. The beach is the best I have ever been to. Temeratures were between 35 and 40 degrees the last week in July, first in Aug. Pomorie hotel is clean and well maintained. We had a very large comfortable room with a fridge. It could do with air conditioning as it becomes unbearably hot at night.(you can hire fans for a small charge). I did hear some other guests complaining as the hotel seems to have older rooms and some are facing the main road which is very noisy. Most of the family rooms ar here and I pity you if you get one. The Lazure nightclub is open 24 hours and is very noisy. Ask for a room at the back facing the pool if you can and you will have no problems. If in the lower floors, do not leave valuables as 2 parties were robbed of passports, tickets money the lot. On to the food. In general it is okay. however my husband became very ill and needed to have drips administered for 3 days due to a severe stomach infection. I can recommend the Picadilly resturant around the corner. It was excellent. Lots of bargains to be had. Ladies, don't buy summer sandals. I bought a few pair for around £5.00. I paid £29 in Next before I went! Loads of Diesel gear. Fake but very good. Bags, belts silver jewelerry are great value. Good night out at the Gypsy Camp. Dont go via a rep. They will rip you off. Easy to find on your own. 11 of us went out, had three course meal, drinks all night and the bill was £74 in total! I would recommend Bulgaria even although we had a bad 2nd week due to illness. The only negative things I would say as there is no entertainment at night at it becomes a bit repetative going around the same shops and bars. If you had no kids it would be great as plenty clubs for dancing if you like that kind of thing. Not as cheap as everyone makes out .We were told you cant spend your money. well we spent the same as we do in Spain or other similar beach holidays. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Pomorie - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: 19th july 2005 Opinion submitted in Aug 2005 by : Mrs Aldridge-Lincs 58,37,35,12,4. However, after complaining to the manager, do not use the balkan rep who did not seem at all intersested, we were moved to a bigger room in the 3* section at the back of the hotel which was great. Rooms were cleaned every day and our cleaner was brilliant, always gave the wee one a cuddle in the morning. The pool area and bar are a disgrace, very dirty, broken tiles, and the bar staff allow glass tumblers by the pool despite youg kids running about in bare feet. It is badly run with their only purpose to earn money. It seems the pool area is contracted out every year. Go to the beach or the aqua park next to the Lazur - much nicer. Food was generally very good, the Ocean bar under the hotel was by far the best, very friendly staff who could not do enough for you. Other good places we found were the Kasablanca - opposite front of the hotel and to the right, great sea view and the 'Real' - out the back of the hotel and to the right. Couldn't believe how many bars, restaurants, shops, let alone hotels, have appeared. We had a mixed age group party and we were all catered for. Hotel rooms were small but very clean. Only downside was that there was no air conditioning. Temperature when we arrived was in 30's and very humid. We were told we could hire fans but everyone had the same idea, and so until our day of departure there were none available! Although we were b+b, didn't bother eating at hotel during day as so cheap to eat at different restaurants and cafe bars. However each evening tried out different icecream/gateaux desserts at terrace bar which were exceptional, so if you have a sweet tooth try them out! Large pool and good beach very close by. We had rooms at back of hotel and there was still a fair amount of noise until early hours, but people at front of hotel did complain because of the music from Lazur nightclub and then the noise of everyone leaving at 6 am. Some people had requested to move rooms. Would like to warn people though that I and another party member were badly bitten by mosquitos and in case of my cousin she had to attend hospital on four occasions as the bites had become badly infected, So take good repellant with you and antihistimine tablets for itching/swelling. Can't fault medical care, doctor even came out from hospital in her own private car to take us there - however could have been because they were being paid via insurance co! The flights cost £70 each and the apartment was £200 for the week and was recommended to us by a friend. We were a little scared before we went after reading some of the reviews of Sunny Beach, but were pleasantly suprised. We went on September 28th until October 6th, and apart from one day of rain, the weather was great ranging from 75 to 80 degrees. The complex is only about 1 year old i think, and there is alot of construction work going on around it. It is located at the far end of sunny beach, towards nessebar, and is quite a walk to the centre...but it is not a problem as there are a selection of good restaurants and bars in easy walking distance, and a regular bus service running from the main road is only two minutes from the complex. The bus runs from Nessebar to Sunny Beach and costs 70 stontinkis each way (about 20p)! The main problem we found with the complex was the walk to the main road from the comlex was a dirt track surrounded by wasteland with no lights what so ever....very dark and very scary!!!! but you get used to it and the taxis do take you to your door so need no walk it too often at night! The wasteland is good for one thing though...spotting unusual creatures like praying mantis's and small coloured frogs!!! The apartment was quite small but fitted all six of us in without too much trouble, and the pool was great for us as it was right outside our balcony and noone ever used it apart form us....although quite small it was basically our own pool!!!! Another good thing about the complex is the 24 hour security guards that make you feel alot safer, and are very nice guys indeed!!! Sunny Beach itself is HUGE...about 5 miles long i'm told, and rather cheap (although the saying that 'you can't spend your money' is a lie)!!! things are cheaper than back home, but aren't so cheap that you get things for pennys....bulgarian beer is about £1 a pint in most places though, and my brother loved it, was called 'kamonitza' and apparently tasted like budweiser (although im not really a beer drinker to be honest), bottles of strongbw were about £1.50 each which is still good, so i just stuck to that and vodka cokes which were also cheap. If you like your steak then this is your place, steak houses are EVERYWHERE...and usually cost about £5 for a meal! Ranch Hut Pizzeria (or something like that) was a great restaurant near to the complex and had whole pigs and chickens on a turning spit cooking in front of you...tasted great and although was one of the more expensive restaurants it was well worth it, we went there so much they started to give us free champayne, cakes and ice creams after our meals!!! I have been to Benidorm and i must say Sunny Beach reminded me of it very much, a place for a good holiday but lacks culture....although the Bulgarian people were alot nicer than the spanish, very polite even if you don't choose to go into their bar when they try to get you in. Sunny Beach still isn't as developed as the Spanish Costas yet, you must remember that this a poor country so try to tip as often as you can. The bar and restaurant workers are there day and night seven days a week, and live on there tips so please be generous. There are lots and lots of stray dogs and cats around living in holes in dens dug into the sand, and quite a few beggars too. Don't let this put you off as Sunny Beach does provide a good holiday destination with lots to do. Nessebar was a very nice place, and we spent alot of time there. Much more Bulgarian with cobbled streets and wooden buildings...and if you follow the street around by the docks you will find a small bar that actually sells a pint of beer for 80 stontinkis...about 25p!!!! BARGAIN!!! And the ice cream parlour there was brilliant!!!! All of us had a great time in Sunny Beach, was a nice break with great weather and an excellent beach. At the end of the holiday I did have a bit of bad luck though, whilst waiting in Bourgas airport for our flight home someone stole my mobile phone and camera out of my bag...so beware of the pick pockets even in the airport and make sure you have good travel insurance. This didn't put me off going back to Bulgaria though as we had a wicked time for the cost of a £70 flight!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Privilege Beach - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: owners direct - 2007 Opinion submitted in August 2007 by : 47,44,17 Resort Rating: Poor Accommodation Rating: Below Average My/Our Holiday Review: privilege beach is in the middle of nowhere sat on a rocky beach full of seaweed and jellyfish. The food on the complex is poor and takes forever to arrive,11.5 levs for a terrible breakfast. There is absolutely nothing to do at night so you need a taxi to svet vlas 10 levs or sunny beach 20 levs. There is a coutesy bus for 2 levs but it only holds 14 for 300 apartments! Definately go back to Sunny Beach again - a definate plus. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel Regina - Sunny Beach Operator and Date: (Balkan Discounts) Balkan Holidays-September 2005 Opinion submitted in Oct 2005 by : Graham & Naomi Curtis Leicester (49,52) Resort Rating: Very Good Accommodation Rating: Excellent My/Our Holiday Review: We have been back from Sunny Beach for nearly a month now and after much thought we have decided it was a good holiday in the end.We did see the beggars, gypsy kids begging with puppies, the bear, the snakes, the crocodile, and the iguana for photo opportunities but declined them.Apart from that the resort is fine with one restaurant in particular standing out for service and value which was TANYA.Its at the rear of the Regina and has no karaoke type in house band playing. We enjoyed visiting Golden Sands resort which was the same as Sunny Beach,Sozopol and Nessebur which were proper Bulgarian towns and well worth a visit. The boat ride is a rip off from Sunny Beach to Nessebu |
